Tommy Bahama Very Cool For Men

I smelled this in Goodwill. Walked around. Kept thinking about it...thanking about it...thinking...so I went and grabbed the bottle before I left. I'm trying to not purchase any more fragrances, so I suppose this is a bit of a fail. But, the salty vetiver in here along with delicate spice is AWESOME. I'm a woman and usually prefer feminine things, but occasionally things like this jump out and snatch my attention (I, of course, would love this on my husband or on anyone too). It opens with juicy citruses, but takes on a warm and earthy, yet simultaneous fresh and salty tone as it dries. It's not loud, but has character nonetheless. It's upbeat, but soothing. Wonderful for the mood! Something about this is reminiscent to Mugler's "Fly Away"...though they share nothing aside from citrus on paper. Strange. But I adored that one too, despite it being considered more masculine. Something about the balance of warmth and freshness...? I'm so happy to have scored a 75% full bottle for dollars! An unexpected love!

An initially lemony aquatic, sharp and almost soapy, but with a nice amount of underlying wood in the background. Sniffing the topnotes up close, in spite of the slight burn, is truly exhilarating: bracing like an Irish Spring-type soap with mint, grasses and grapefruit, and a surprising lack of sweetness for a designer aquatic. I don't know if I get fatigued to it quickly, or if it really is too topnote-heavy, but I find it weakening significantly after only a few minutes. Still, what's remaining is a lightly woody, watery grass scent...very natural and unwaveringly maintaining its un-sweetness. I love this reedy, bamboo-y dry grass aura in all the other fragrances where I've found it, though I get more tea and more dry soapiness alongside it in Very Cool. Thus, I will still happily give it a thumbs up in spite of its weakness. I wish all tropical-themed fragrances could feel this natural.

Call me crazy but this feels like an all year round scent for me. Back when I wasn't crazy about cologne I'd always wear this to death, and I'd consistently get complimented on how good I smelled. People would describe the scent as "clean laundry", call me delusional but I always felt like that's what this smelled like to me. I'd also say it has a dash of spicy citrus thrown into the mix as well but this is one of those scents that the masses would love, couldn't really see anyone disliking it personally. Overall my only complaint is that there isn't an EDT or EDP version of this cologne because it's such a good scent, really wish this lasted longer over all. Personally I'd give it a 10/10 scent wise because it's just a really simple yet amazing scent, but in reality the max I could give it is probably a 7/10. Still will always love this scent though. <3

This one is a compliment magnet. It smells so good on my husband, and I have been known to steal sprays in the summer too. The ginger has a nose-tickling effect, and yet smells soft and breezy somehow. To me, it smells like vacation and relaxing. Believe it or not, it comes off as zesty and a bit powdery at the same time. Feels dry, so it is perfect for summer. That ginger/citrus bite is lovely. But it doesn't feel like a citrusy cologne. Just fresh/ powdery. Sillage and longevity is better on him than many have been experiencing. Though it's still not the longest lasting, I can still smell this around him after 4-5 hours. The fact that he gets compliments hours after spritzing says something! This is so likeable and appropriate for most occasions. Crowd-pleaser. Has aspects of cooling and breeziness at the same time. Love it.

Gourmand aquatic with the paprika & nutmeg giving this an Italian late July evening meal in Bari type feel to it. This one has Fremont's fingerprints all over it, he's always shown himself a master of balancing spicy, earthy and citric elements in creative ways. I find Tommy Bahama's Very Cool a stellar release in its classy leveling off of the dirtier qualities of the vetiver so as to not allow it to encroach upon the brisk freshness of the ginger, mandarin and bergamot, but still adding an earthy quality to the overall accord. I really enjoy this one on very hot afternoons and evenings on the weekend if I plan to go out for a pleasant stroll. Very sweet, grassy, breezy and tropical with a bit of spice/pepper. A top notch summer frag then can be had for only $20 at TJ Max or other discount stores which is a steal. EVERY and i mean EVERY woman that's ever caught a wif of me with this one on, has pulled me a little closer and remarked on how good it smelled. I normally wear colognes reminiscent of northeastern woody notes, but this one definitely stands out a bit with its tropical nature.

This, Original, Cognac and St Kitts are the best scents of the tommy Bahama line. It's light, refreshing, citrusy, and perfect for spring summer. The longevity is a bit weak for most, but the scent is very nice. The other tommy Bahama scents are a bit stronger. This works well for daily wear, the office or dinner. This is $20 at Marshalls, TJ's and Burlington. So it's pretty easy to keep on hand

One of the best smelling fragrances ever 100% ruined by reformulation.. 100%! ... if u can get the wood cap... do so! Metal caps are a NO GO!!! That being said I do not bother finding the authentics of the ruined juices as they will soon be gone forever and it will fail to remain a part of you. I miss this one

Tommy B Very Cool, the name fits the description, Nice island breeze fragrance thats soft and pleasant. This is not so weak and not strong either, just right. great blends of ginger citurs and vetiver. This fragrance reminds me a coconut if it had a cologne this would be it. Perfect for spring/summer use

Its current formulation is okay but the wooden cap vintage formula is superb. Citrus and ginger dance effortlessly with that hint of spice. Hawaiian shirts dream of bathing in both this and the original Tommy Bahama. If you can find it, don't hesitate. Sam Baldwin from Gray Matters wears this.

Not enough reviews written on old formula. Has a beautiful salted sugary dry drown and the entry is POTENT boozy freshness.

Well. This one is interesting. First and foremost, I'm a fan of Tommy Bahamas fragrances because they're short and sweet affairs. Not too overwhelming, not making a statement, just a nice breeze. Subtle. Class is quiet and I find their fragrances to be quiet classy for the price I wasn't a fan of this one... At first. It smelled super powdery to me and was just a nope for me I've had this bottle for roughly six months. I would wear it off and on around the purchase time and it just wasn't for me. I recently did some spring cleaning and found the bottle amongst some other crap and sprayed it on. Wow. I like this. The further I get into my fragrance journey the more things I learn. Apparently it oxygenated... Or macerated? Whatever it did while it was sitting, THIS is the fragrance it was supposed to be upon first spray lol. It smells like a warm orange and purple sunset after a short rain shower through a screen door. Very relaxed, chill type of vibe. Quite masculine, a bit intoxicated but lovely. The fragrance has a masculine undertone as if it had a long productive day at work, it went home, had a couple beers, had a nice meal, a shower, and ready for it's evening cigar. On the porch, admiring the beautiful sunset and feeling at peace. Everything is ok. It's not a movie star, a rockstar, a stock broker, a CEO, an athlete, not is it business savvy. It just gets the job done and it chills and evokes gratitude. Nothing more, nothing less This is a work of art. We got off on the wrong foot but it does paint a picture for me Edit: By the way, mine is the one with the silver cap. Spray it a few times and let it sit if you have the one with the silver cap and let it sit. Give it a chance

I also got a cheapie bottle of the reformulated EDC, and while I agree with the comments about how generic the drydown is, I didn't get any particularly synthetic smell - just very soft and powdery. This is so different from the much more impressive original release (which I wish I'd bought before it was reformulated) that it's hardly the same scent. The opening is a pleasant citrus/ginger splash with a bit of a soda vibe. Yes the citrus is a bit generic and has been done (a lot), but for the price it's more than worth it for the casual summer pleaser it's best used for. The drydown was very generic (I kept trying to decide what it smelled like only to conclude that it smells very close to dozens of other scents), but that's not to say it's not nice either; as I said above, I got no hint of plastic or anything unnatural - just very powdery, sweet, soft and mildly botanical (must have been the nutmeg and paprika). I concur with those who call it a post-shower scent - it's perfect for brightening up a summer weekend morning. Just don't pay more than $20, know that you're getting a very mainstream, pleasing citrus/powder scent for a bargain-basement price and you won't be disappointed.

The original version was released in 2006. But I was able to get the new version of this fragrance and it comes with a silver bottle cap made of plastic. A Very luxuriousre freshing woody-aquatic fragrance for men, opening notes of mandarin, ginger and bergamot; Middle notes are nutmeg and paprika; Base notes of vetiver. A summer day cologne, I recommend using it at home, in the garden, or around the private swimming pool only. Note that this fragrance is eau de cologne, so don’t expect the unexpected from Longevity or Sillage, and deal with this fragrance for personal enjoyment, nothing more and nothing less. At best, it only lasts for 30 minutes to an hour. Suitable for men over forty years of age who love eau de cologne, The fragrance bottle is made of high quality, transparent, polished glass, but its drawback is a plastic cap that looks cheap. Conclusion: Cologne water for use at home or for personal enjoyment, very wonderful and refreshing. If you find it at this price... try to get it, as it is considered a bargain.

I picked this up at Marshall’s for $20. In general, I like most of the Tommy Bahama products, so I thought I’d give it a try. Since I quit all my vices, I can’t feel too bad about smoking a Jackson for no reason every month or so on a blind buy frag. The opening: Yes! I get the ginger here, but I also get lime which isn't listed as a note. I also get nutmeg, bergamot, and citrus. I say citrus because it doesn't smell orangey to me at all, instead I get lime. By the way I eat fresh mandarins all of the time so I’m familiar with them. The dry-down: I get a citrus aquatic. I smell lime, ginger, nutmeg, bergamot, ocean, ginger and I find some vetiver also. I never really smelled paprika anywhere, but that is a delicate note, so I’m not surprised. Overall, I think everyone else would enjoy this in any laid back atmosphere. I enjoy the scent, it just doesn't perform that well on my skin.

Hard to imagine how anyone could find this fragrance too strong. Maybe my bottle is old, though I doubt it because it has the newer metal cap rather than the wooden one. Maybe it has been reformulated. I find Very Cool too light if anything is at fault. It's pleasant but not generic. I feel as though one could fairly bathe in this stuff and no one would object. The soft mandarin note is an interesting change from the super tart yuzu and lime found in many other citrus juices, and while not exactly fresh, does not smell synthetic to me. Today may be the last warm we see in my area for a while and I'm enjoying Very Cool.

I like this one,and received (unsolicited) compliments while wearing it. Aquatic/marine accord isn't listed, but it's fairly prominent. Also, rose or geranium-leaf. And mint. The one flaw it has: becomes trace after 3-4 hours on me- it's all heart and head with very-little base (rather transparent like a watercolor painting). This is desirable, however, if you want a short-lived, zesty frag for a 2 to 3-hour event- like a cocktail party. The bottle is gorgeous and understated- no doubt about that!

Very Cool is a fresh, inoffensive fragrance. Not an outstanding scent, but it feels so good. By now probably everybody knows about the "clean, fresh" thing. Well, this perfume is like a light breeze on a summer beach. Citrus opening, some short lived ginger and vetiver. You can make the equation, not a ground breaking composition. And yet, this is a fragrance that I truly enjoy and it's (from now on) on my top list as a recommendation for a masculine and clean scent. Def thumbs up!

First got this when many of the frags of Tommy Bahama were at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. Supremely underrated frag line at that time. Pretty much everything Tommy Bahama made was amazing, including this! Not sure if its any good now being it has been well over ten years since I put my nose on this frag. But as I remember it smelled like a beautifully composed cocktail that shines wonderfully in the heat. This is a great dumb reach, and everyone will like it. ~ mAKES Too mUch $cents ~

I like it, but not for everyday wear. It reminds me a bit of Vicks Vapor Rub. I threatened to spray this on my kids if they want to be sick and stay home from school. It has a menthol, stimulating and slightly citrus component. This is what I like in the morning, and that is when I use it. Some other fragrances with a similar vibe that I alternate with in the morning are: Hugo Boss Iced and Jimmy Choo Man Ice.

Probably the best of the Set Sail line...just. it is very synthetic with a harsh alcohol base. It has decent longevity, for what it's worth, and after a while it is somewhat easier to take...but, it burns my nose and waters my eyes. It smells cheap and sells cheap at Marshalls. Maybe this works on some men, certainly not for me.

For $25 this is amazing. I never smelled the wood cap version but I really like this plastic cap one. It doesn’t last long but it’s good quality. Kinda gives me the ginger and citrus vibe from LV imagination but it’s completely different. Def have to reapply but it’s def gas. ⛽️ Could be a signature fragrance.

A soft pleasing fragrance that works well on hot days. I think it lives up to its name. Still, I wouldn't use this cologne and "projects well" in the same sentence. Honestly, we're entering Yacht Man territory here. Too bad, its a good fragrance, especially in the dry down.

This projects 10 times better than 80% of the fragances I own, and I own a lot of them. Top notes I don't like, 15 minutes later, I am in heaven, or should I say, sailing somewhere.

Fresh and cool. A little generic... smells nice but nothing special here. performance is a little below average. Not bad for what you are going to pay for it. 6.5/10

My boyfriend has been wearing this and I love it. It's not overbearing like most of the colognes I smell around campus. I find the paprika note very unique as well!

Tommy Bahama Very Cool with the wooden cap is a terrific sent with nice longevity compared to the cheap reformulated fragrance with the sliver cap.

Smell it's too synthetic, i not liked. It's not expensive, but it's not a good purchase. Set Sail Barts is the BEST!

Unique, unremarkable. Won't offend anyone, but with so many great fragrnaces out there, get one of those.

I got the one with the metal cap and it is not my favorite. For one, the scent just doesn't go with the name at all. Instead of "Very Cool", to me it is more on the warm side of things. It's pretty soft and warmly spicy. For me the cognitive disconnect is just too much. After 10-20 minutes I just want to get away from the soft, cloying aspect of it.

#314 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Very weak, generic, characterless. Very glad to toss it in Christmas box for the men's shelter.

It is sweltering hot outside, steamy, humid. You go into an island themed restaurant to beat the heat and immediately you are blasted with the ice cold air conditioning which takes the edge off. The smell of the wooden fans and decor fill the air. You smell a fresh mojito being prepared and you instantly know that is exactly what this day and moment call for. Within moments you are cooled off, refreshed, relaxed, your spirits are much lighter and you are well on your way to ordering a second mojito and ordering some food. its entirely too hot and miserable outside of this little oasis and you dont plan to go anywhere anytime soon. The sight of palmettos and the sound of the calypso drums further serve to add to your relaxed, suddenly care-free mood. This is what very cool means to me and why i will always own this. I lived in Myrtle Beach for a time and when i had one day off each week i would at some point step into the now closed Tommy Bahama restaurant to unwind and relax, especially in the heat of the day when it was too much. Inexpensive and an excellent minty, woodsy, cooling fragrance that will invigorate you.

Great review by House Adams below me, and I agree with his take on it. It also reminds me of another good cheapie.. Hollister wave. It’s got the same general vibe as Wave, minus the bamboo note and Wave’s stronger herbal tones. Very Cool is actually fairly warm to my nose. The nutmeg and ginger along with the vetiver make it heavier than I expected. Almost a powdery mid and dry down.. which is funny for a juice called Very Cool. I expected it to have a very light watery dry down. It opens with a clean fresh citrus, but quickly evolves into a sweeter, warmer, almost cooler weather scent. Still clean.. just heavier and fuller.. which gives it a more mature vibe. Don’t think Aqua Di Gio, think Armani Code. Ages are college and up, but to me it’s not really a young fragrance. It’s a little more refined than your average freshie. Spring/summer and since it’s semi warm it might work in fall as well. Casual, date night, possibly work.. just not a club scent or formal imo. If you’re looking for a fresh clean light scent this goes the other way. Overall.. good juice.

My wife isn't exactly what I'd call sophisticated, she's a bit of a gold-digger to be very honest with you, but she bought me this with my credit card a few years ago for Christmas and I can't say I'm not satisfied. Sure, it's limited to mostly warmer weather and day-time use but it's a nice fresh spicy accord that shocked me after having tried some of their other fragrances released around the same time. While I am not a big fan of the clothing line, it's too casual and sloppy in my opinion, the fragrances are a completely different ball game. This one was done with class by Fremont, this man can do anything with even the tightest and slimmest budgets, he's got a remarkable process he seems to have mastered and implies astuteness at melding contrasts into complimentary pieces. This one is nicely blended, balanced and marketed and the gentlemen below who spoke about the vintage cap and bottle is right on the mark, there's a difference in the heart and dry-down. Tremendous. fantastic.

This is a great scent and not what I expected as I was unable expecting a beachhead type of scent but instead this is a really nice fresh spicy ! Usually spicy scents turn foul on my skin but this seemed to work. This is a really nice blend of ginger and pepper giving this spiciness but with some subtle citrus in the background giving this some freshness. It's really well blended and if you like spicy scents but want a spicy frag for the hot days then this is the scent for you as even with 10+ sprays it never gets cloying and in fact you need to spray heavy with this to get it to perform. To my nose this smells like a mix between Ed Harry's Villain and Dior Homme Sport. 2 really awesome frags ! Performance on this is what you expect from a summer scent as it lasts 3-6 hours but with only soft projection. Overall rating-- 7.5 out of 10 ! Unique spicy scent for the summer at a great price !!! Only complaint is I wish this projected better.

Yes the old original Tommy Bahama very cool was out of this world. Huge compliment getter and for everyone on here it had a cork cap not a wooden cap I went through two or three bottles..I remember being at a high line restaurant in the Borgata Atlantic City and the waiter asking me what is that that you have on.. it's funny because one of my friends that night had to have the cologne I was wearing and he ordered three bottles but it was this new reformulation which by the way is made by Tommy Hilfiger, he bought the rights to these colognes and formulated (ruined) them.. so we're all hanging out again and I say to my buddy whatever you're wearing smells like it's for a woman . He says it's that stuff you were wearing, Tommy Bahama I ordered three bottles.. needless to say he wasn't amused when I told him the juice had changed.

I'm a big Tommy Bahama fan so I saw this at T.J. Mushnick for $19.99. (Set Sail for St. Barts is my favorite--followed by St. Martinique.) This one is nowhere close to those. The opening is good enough (even though the ginger takes on a minty note to me). But I did get "cool" in there somewhere I suppose. My BIG ISSUE is the wretched dry-down. It's that totally generic " barber shop smell" ...smells like sweet plastic....synthetic....You've smelled this in like 20,0000 frags from the 1990s.( I always point to Azzaro & Drakker Noir or anything "black", "night" or "noir" that comes in a black bottle & package and is well under $40.00). I think this will be my LAST Tommy Bahama blind buy and just stick with my St. Barts as my default "beachy cocktail" frag. Sorry Tommy.

I have both the OG and the newest formulation, but I will review the new formula. At first I was not happy at all with this one at first smell, it reminded me a bit like Creed Millesime Imperial, very light aqua feel to it. I decided to wear it to work and see how it would handle the south Florida heat. I am surprised to say, it is a solid performer on my skin, 7 hours after applying a woman asked me what I was wearing, and told me it was "really nice!" I was a huge fan of the original, and I still have 3 bottles of it, I was able to stockpile a few when I saw they changed companies and formula, but this new one is starting to grow on me a bit. For $19 bucks it is worth the money! Great summer scent, and even my gf prefers this new one to the old.

Extremely underwhelming. I have the silver cap newer version, maybe that's the problem. I can barely smell it. There's a faint smell of laundry detergent-type freshness. Not in a good way. Very generic. Which is so disappointing because these perfumers were killing it in the 2000's with other fragrances in this fruity/fresh/aquatic category. 3AM Sean John has the fig and tonic notes which totally make it superior to this. Just an initial impression after buying a nearly-full bottle from somebody for $8. Now I know why they got rid of it. I'll update this if somehow I come around to it.

This is think is a safe blind buy for an aquatic freshie lover. It’s SO cheap, but this and Martinique & barts are all still HUGE FAVORITES of mine for years! Even the mists project great and even when you think you’ve smelled all the aqua-freshest in the world.. there’s still never seem to disappoint & they’re all quite unique in their own way! Very cool is my fav & barts women is slight masculine leaning ( not much, but more than the others ) but I love them ALL! I think they stand just fine with all the expensive scents. OH! I LOVE Barts Seascape too! That’s my second favorite!

UPDATE! Just got a vintage bottle with a different wooden cap- COMPLETELY different scent! This one has a better dry-down for sure. The "spice" in the original has some distinction . The NEWER version has a crappy generic dry-down (I caught a whiff of that "burnt licorice" smell that I f**king hate) The original version has a brighter ginger note. The newer version is a blur of generic citrus. The mint note in the original is blended better. The mint note in the newer version smells like mint gum. SEEK OUT THE ORIGINAL VERSION WITH THE OVAL WOODEN CAP!!

Ok again read about it being great and beachy, not to me! When i sprayed it first thing i thought of was i have smelled this before, and again just my opinion, it smelled like calvin klein Man and mayb rocawear 99 a little. Its no beach smell, its more of a flowery garden smell, it has a strong green that i pick up and doesnt really go away. I own CK Man and rocawear so there was no need for this at all, its not a bad scent just try ck man and you will know what this smells like and it aint no beach.

For me, the biggest difference between YSL L'Homme and Very Cool is the smooth, creamy, sweetness of the tonka bean in L'Homme. Both have that citrusy ginger opening with a little spice. The tonka bean can be detected throughout with L'Homme, but the dry down for Very Cool is primarily vetiver. Both are pretty great scents in my book.

Very Cool could also be called "Very clean." This reminds me of those air fresheners with the "Cotton" smell. It's a fresh clean white cotton kinda smell. It's slightly woodsy but very white and relaxing. It's a summer scent without a lot of citrus. I would have to say it's worth the $15. Longevity and sillage could be better.

For me it is just far to aquatic. I live in Nebraska and have never been to the tropics. It might help if i had ever been to the tropics. Maybe it would put it in context for me. I will prolly end up trading it (pm me if u r interested)
