True Star Men

Best to forget any direct comparisons to the average aquatic fresh slew of scents on the market. What the designers did with True Star was quite creative, bold and the whole concept is realized to perfection. A scent that embodies the world of fashion and most importantly photo shoots. Just open a camera film canister, one on a photo shoot under the lights, the aroma stemming forth is identical to that of True Star. Sounds offputting?...Not in the slightest. Delve deeper beyond the top notes and what resembles a blackcurrant or dark fruit accord anchors the mid note development. Quite unique and a pleasure for the senses. Invigorating without being harsh or edgy. Uplifting and induces a positive mindset overall. The cheapie that bats way beyond it's price point. Very nice stuff all told. 8/10

I used to wear this fragrance when it no longer had the picture of Enrique Iglesias in the box. Thank God! The scent was very leathery, semi-sweet, with a very particular and pleasant metallic nuance that was well blended with the citric notes. That metallic note gave it a clean, modern, industrial feel. The result was a very synthetic but coherent scent which had an identity of its own. Individual notes were not easy to identify and it was very linear during its short lifetime. The only real problem with it was actually its modest longevity. I have to agree with @red_d that the only fragrance in the market that reminds me of True Star is CH Men. The main differences in my opinion are that CH Men is even sweeter, more floral and does not have that metallic note.

My first designer fragrance. Will always hold fond memories. Hated the box marketed with a picture of Enrique Iglesias Great Scent. Weak performance but great Scent. Versatile but not serious or overly formal Pity its discontinued. Tested CH Men recently and its the closest thus far that I've been able to find. CH men is sweeter whereas true star was a tad more leathery and almost darker and fresher. 8/10

I think it ́s a unisex perfume, I ́m a girl and I wear it..and people always tells me that it smells like a unisex perfume, they would never had guessed it ́s a mens perfume..smells sexy, fresh and seducing..blends easily in with your own "scent" so that it smells differently from person to person.. PS: I love that Enrique ́s face is on the box haha:D<3

Such a shame that this fragrance has been discontinued :(. Loved the uniqueness of the smell. Does anyone know a good comparable alternative here?

When I first smelled this, it was brand new, maybe '05 or '06. It smelled great, like nothing I've smelled before or since. I can only assume this has gone through a drastic reformulation, because I just bought it and it smells nothing like that sweet licorice/leather bomb I loved so much all those years ago. It literally smells like celluloid. Plastic. It's not pleasant to me at all anymore and sadly, it's a completely different fragrance. Not kidding, it's NOTHING like it used to be. I smell no similarities at all. It used to smell like a brand new leather jacket conditioned with a touch of anise oil. Now it smells like plastic. Like celluloid film fresh out of the canister. If you're trying to connect how those two can possibly be the same fragrance, don't. You'll hurt your brain. I split the difference and gave it a like because it used to be awesome. '05 version 8.5/10 Current version: 3/10

Today this is the scent from "the other hand" - from the right forearm where the whimsical selections are sampled and tested in addition to my Coat of the Day, which resides on the left forearm and just below the throat. Opening chords are cutting - rather sharp string of syntheticaly vibrating tutti-grapefruity notes , which persist noticably through fairly short lasting mid-tones period, to swiftly fainting drydown. After an hour or so, what is left on the testing strip of the skin is...not much really...powdery residue, and the muted hint of something pink. Hey, it's cool summer splash, SPLASH. Land it on your testing strip. It's intruiging. Like a disapearing star.

A tumble-dryer fresh fragrance, and synthetic through to the end. True Star for men starts and finishes its life with three accords, Aquatic/Metallic/Green. These notes play so closely together, they render the fragrance monotone and linear, becoming very close to the skin within an hour or two, and almost barely there two to three hours after that. Don't get me wrong, True Star is not a bad scent. It's just very simple and short lived. If you do like it, then I'd suggest you try Azzaro Now for men. Startlingly similar top to mid notes but done a lot more confidently, with an eventual smooth woody leather drydown that is much more satisfying.

As I feel like my smell sense is not super able to pick up on individual notes, I have to go off of impressions that last with me since I got this as my second fragrance ever growing up. To me, this is sweet tea in a bottle. It smells like what fresh-brewed sweet tea smells like-a noticeable sweetness, a woodsy, herbally lasting scent, and just a general warmth that gives me tea vibes. I can't not think of this as my sweet tea cologne.

What strikes me first is a huge smoky tea note, which then moves into a wet wool/damp woodsy note. So far, so good. It then settles quietly on my skin and barely announces itself after that, though snatches of leather and an unusual but nice "clean flowing stream" note appear occasionally. I get about 5 hours from it, and sometimes that's generous. I wish it was more durable, because I'd wear it a lot more.

This scent instantly reminds me of the sweet smell of celluloid. The stuff films are (were) made of. When I was young we had an 8 mm filmprojector and the warmth of the light in combination with the film brought out that smell. I thought that was the idea behind the name of the scent: film/star. I still use it.

Very fresh fragrance. I can describe it as a very clean scent. perfect way to start your morning with a splash of this. Very light and refreshing in a natural way, I don't smell anything synthetic or artificial here. Love it!

does anyone know where to buy this? I mean for a real fragrence for sure not a rip off that not smells good after 10 mins or so. and is there a difference between the original and the enrique iglesias edit?

Nice scent, but is not longlasting at all. Maximum 2 hours in my skin

Got this as a gift when I was 14 in '09, though I had asked for Tommy. Still, I really liked True Star at first. Fresh, clean, sweet smell. People complimented it too. The more I used it tho, the more it smelled to me like rubbing alcohol and plastic underneath the freshness. Never lasted a whole school day, and my bottle was broken or something because it leaked like a mother Tommy is the best TH house fragrance. This stuff is a cheap synthetic Azzaro Now, which is already excessively synthetic so that's saying something.

After reading an article, I decided to order it (I really need to stop buying blind). It's decent but nothing great or out of the ordinary. I'd describe it as sweet and aquatic with a hint of .....plastic. There are better colognes out there to spend your money on.

Better than expected, given the notes and charts are so messy up there. Tommy Hilfiger True Star for Men is a strange fragrance. I also got this one from a friend who loathed it, but at least I don't mind wearing it. I hate hate hate the opening. It's so strong and filled with burnt leather mixed with licorice; two perfume notes that I can't stand. HOWEVER, once it dries down, it becomes tolerable (and almost pleasant) generic sports/gym fragrance that one can probably smell from something like Tross, Adidas, or CC-OO Sport. The citrus (grapefruit) takes the stage and that's the saving grace of this fragrance. Thankfully it stays that way throughout and the leather becomes much less noticeable. Without the citrus taking the stage after the opening, I'd certainly rate it much lower. It risks smelling a bit dated, but if you're a fan of these notes then it might be worth it. I don't imagine myself wearing it too often but once in a while, maybe.

Smells like a leather jacket that has been sprayed with a citrus fragrance, and there’s something sweet in one of the pockets. I used to love wearing this as a teenager when it came out in the mid 2000s. It was very unique smelling. Just thinking about the smell takes me back to the good old days, when everything felt so much less complicated. Sigh.

This one is a very standard fragrance, I've smelt probably a couple dozens of others that smell just like this. Boring, simple and plain. The good thing: I bought one of the few editions that didn't come with Enrique Iglesias's face in the box!

A fresh leather scent, like a leather jacket, while wearing a cotton tee. I enjoy it in cold weather, it does not last long but I really enjoy it, and i do get compliments. Not an all star in my collection but one i will always have.

I detect very minty toothpaste and citrusy aftershave. Like a guy just stepped out of the bathroom after a shower, washing his face and brushing his teeth. Strangely addicting and refreshing.

It was my favorite perfume, when it first came out in 2005 it smelled great and unlike any other perfume, it had its own character, too bad it was discontinued

Moderate quality fragrance. Provides the wearer with a boyish charm. Lasts for 2 hours max.
