Ápeiron

I absolutely adore Apeiron and I'm surprised by the lack of reviews (last one 7 years ago) and the middling sentiments about it, as it is apparently Tonatto's bestseller. When I first smelled it I got a little emotional, not only because it is absolutely beautiful but also because I was so relieved that after so long in the fragrance world, I could still be surprised! Hope is not lost! Its a beautiful powdery dry violet, the texture of talc, neither "soggy" as vintage violets can sometimes read, nor like a sweet Parma violet. Then there's these unexpected threads that shine through, beautifully disruptive. The slightly salty ambergris, smooth tonka, and this licorice that is winking at you, letting you know this isn't some demure little scent, she contains multitudes. The other reviews say this has a vintage feel. Sure! But this is more modern niche than vintage to me. I'm that heathen who doesn't appreciate vintage fragrances like Guerlain Apres l'ondee, they never quite hit. This hits! But if I had to choose a decade for this, I would indeed choose the 1910s. The only thing I don't like is the bottle picture on Fragrantica, I'm guessing this was the first iteration and it looks cheap. I have the simple cylinder bottle, and also the "Sventoline" version in the fringed bottle (these are aged versions of their popular fragrances). How to pronounce: I say "Ah-peer-on" but in researching maybe its "Ah-pie-run" - close enough. As for what it means, google says "Apeiron is an abstract, void, something that cannot be described" etc etc something about genesis-decay, its in eternal motion, its a play of opposites. Too much for my feeble brain.

I really like it. An interesting musky violet and tonka creation. I guess the muskiness is care of the ambergris. I do get the licorice note and it is thankfully very soft. These notes really work well together. Its quite a linear fragrance. Its a very soft feminine slightly powdery fragrance that is rather vintage in feel. Poor sillage and moderate longevity.

This is a refined, feminine powder bomb. It is not something that I would wear (I got a decant), but it is a pleasing scent that reminds me somewhat of Zwitsal, which draws heavily on the iris and vanilla. Add Labdanum 18 to that. The mimosa at the opening is very attractive for powder fans.

I do not understand why there are a Laura Tonatto and a Tonatto Profumi when the house is the same.. anyway as said on the other "profile": Amber of your grandmother. maybe the mother of your grandmother. Coty Grossmith Piver and old chemistry style. I do like. Cause I love vintage. And i like to imagine how a young woman would smell in 1901. But I wonder why this name? A greek name that sound cold masculine and it would be suitable for a Starship or stomach pills? This fragrance made of amber and tonka sweet poudery remember a lot talc, pure talc, or old baby product. (now the aromas are changed). it is also a bit acid pungent like a demakeup. Charme Ancienne or Poudre d'ambre would be better as name.. Aperion come on.. I understand the idea of eternal classic but here we are non in grece of homer, we are in france 1850

Sophisticated, interesting, with lots of different nuances and layers. Warm and ambery scent for romantics. My mind wanders to 15th century Verona...
