Génération Godard

Horrifyingly beautiful and addictive. After sampling hundereds of perfumes in the last few months, this is the one that strikes me the most. Its indescribable. It doesnt smell pleasant, but I enjoy wearing this the most out of anything. It opens with a sweet, airy popcorn, alongside wet paper and tobacco... This is then accompanied by a super sweaty fabricy feel, i suppose the leather... but throughout it the sweet, but very stale popcorn/coke smell radiates off the skin. This projects amazingly and lasts a very very long time. I think its the sweatiness that makes it a bit unpleasant, but my god is it a jaw-droppingly beautiful unpleasantness. It somehow feels like such a human experience, but also something out of this world that we are not meant to smell... I cant describe it but its so, so intersting. I love it...

Hmm, I would say it's like an evil version of Let The Good Times Roll by Lush. It has a similar popcorn-y, butter-y intensity, but there is a dark undertone to this fragrance. I still think it is wearable and even very pleasant, but to me it does smell unconventional for sure. When spraying it, I smell something reminiscent of anise, almost a cough syrup note. It won't count as one of my favourites, but I like it a lot.

The best Toskovat imo. Very photo-realistic on the popcorn note. In the opening it smells like you have just made some delicious caramelized popcorn but as it dries down it becomes more and more dark. I like to imagine that you have a bit of popcorn left but you drop it and it is now dirty because of the dirty floor and the sticky coca cola along with cigaretes which give it this smokey feel.

One of Toskovat’s best creations. A realistic scent of buttered popcorn and Coca-Cola. You can imagine this fragrance as if you’re going to watch a movie in an old cinema, where the air is filled with the aroma of buttery popcorn and Coca-Cola. This is something perfect — 10/10.

Cola & popcorn in a smoky movie theatre. Old cigarettes. Initially a sweet dirty rosy fragrance, dries down to a more sophisticated musky scent.

Toskovat seems to be the real deal these days when it comes to true niche perfumery — strange, daring compositions made in tiny batches, sold out in seconds, and impossible to find in stores. So when a fellow perfume aficionado handed me a sample of Génération Godard, I was immediately intrigued. All I knew was that Godard was some visionary filmmaker from another time — and somehow, this scent feels like a tribute to that lost era. It opens with a dense, buttery popcorn note — not fresh and fluffy, but like the empty bucket afterward, coated in warm, oily residue. There’s a faint sweetness hiding in the background that clashes beautifully with the salty butter. Then, an acidic, metallic sharpness creeps in — industrial, strange, and slightly haunting. About half an hour in, it all starts to shift. That sharp tang turns familiar — I suddenly catch a whisper of cola, the fizzing sweetness of flat Coke over cold metal. As it dries down, the popcorn and cola linger like ghosts, woven through a musky, dusky ambrette-amber base. It feels nostalgic and unsettling, like stepping into an old, empty theater long after the film has ended. It reminds me of La Fin du Monde by État Libre d’Orange — both share that surreal popcorn accord and a spirit that’s more art than perfume. Weird, evocative, and quietly cinematic, Génération Godard doesn’t aim to please — it aims to make you feel. A perfume that smells like memory, film grain, and faded light.

For the first 30 minutes, I was appalled. The smell reminded me of nothing other than popcorn, and the cheap tobacco-rose scent you'd expect off of a hookah. The popcorn and rose smells faded about an hour into wearing, and they began to complement the tobacco-ish smell very well. I can only describe this as a rugged, sickly sweet fragrance that leans masculine. I want to emphasize the term "sickly sweet" because it's really not the sweet you'd expect. The soda, butter, and rose smells combine into this ugly sick sweetnes that I just couldn't stop sniffing. Not the type of sweet you'd want to eat, no juiciness to it. I would only wear this in a crowded place where some other ambient smells are floating around. It seems to combine well with lightly smokey smells.

This fragrance is incredible. I wore it for a burlesque & drag performance as sleazy businessman who did a strip tease revealing BDSM gear. You get the popcorn immediately, but I didn't smell the sour candy notes people mention until it was on skin. You definitely get the cola, musk, and tobacco. This scent is very masculine to me, especially in a storytelling sense. This is the scent you'd find on a washed up middle aged man you'd find at a porn theater, or on a carnival worker. On a woman I'd imagine a chain-smoker with a dirty house. A lot of the Toskovat perfumes are definitely not applicable for daily wear/office environments but for acting, roleplaying, and performance, they are incredible.

this is VERY interesting. starts with super tasty popcorn and a hint of cola, then it feels like yeeeaaaah somebody intercoursed and thrown a cig butt in a popcorn box, some pleasant rose scent pops up, but there is a note that wants me to say “man, fuck off” (i guess it’s labdanum mixed with something). and the main note changes every time i reach out to smell it on me. something citrusy is present. the drydown is reminiscent of paper indeed, and in the end it’s ambery and tasty. i lowkey feel like wearing a smocking and a moustache with this perfume. nice work of art as usually, i expected more of cola, but it is what it is. 8/10 i don’t think it’s unwearable.

Not a great one to wear on the daily. Its an art piece, that tells a story as it evolves. Its rather repulsive at the start; flat cola, stale popcorn, geranium, carpet, candy. Not pleasant at all in my opinion. But then as it dries, the overly sweet fades, and becomes paper, tobacco, opium and musk. It was one of my favorite smells I've ever experienced, but only for a brief window and having to spend hours smelling like carpet and shitty candy. From a juvenile, sickly sweet opening to something somber, mature, warm and full of clarity. It really is a work of art.

Buttery popcorn and fountain Coke at the movies. 🍿 🎥 Niche AF. Nicely blended, rosy and nuanced. Gets better as it wears. I really dig this one. Definitely getting a decant to wear whenever I go see a flick.

This smells like if you would hook up with a clown behind the circus tent. I personally classify this as a gourmand.

It's intense and not something you can just wear but the experience is 10/10

i really love how fast the opening changes. at first it's vanilla buttercream - rich and decadent, maybe spiced with a hint of rum. almost immediately it starts developing aromatic citrusy notes, turning itself into a faint memory of vanilla coke. once it settles, it's giving caramel popcorn drenched in dr. papper with a thick slice of lemon, but there is a smoothness to it, together with some kind of nostalgia. it's unlike anything i've smelled before and wearing it is a fun experience. drydown is a bit disappointing though, it just turns into a slightly musky, barely noticable hint of awell loved paperback journal. it really makes my skin smell like hot printer paper. also, it's not very long lasting. i would expect more for the price...

Génération Godard is a sweet gourmand fragrance. The most influential note in this fragrance is a sweet popcorn note followed by a coca-cola sweetness. This is an unsettling fragrance that made me feel strange while wearing it. Because of its sweetness, I believe that it is more suitable during the colder months. It is a unique and kinda wearable fragrance that I am not super partial to.

This fragrance is deeply unsettling. It made me feel queasy, exposed, vulnerable and feeling as though I was forced to relive a childhood memory that was never meant to happen. I know this is not marketed as dark as something like Inexcusable Evil or Age of Innocence, but this perfumer must not have had a happy childhood. The popcorn here leans more towards kettlecorn, and the Coca cola is stale, days old, and stained on cloth. the Coca-Cola note is impressively realistic, it is also flat, bitter, and strange. Interestingly, it does make coffee taste slightly more pleasant when I have it on. It personally recalls memories of having vomited both popcorn and Coca-Cola at once, which I had done at least twice in my life, so it does make me a little nauseous, but it's not absolutely repulsive since it is just common sweets. Not only is that memory tainting this perfume for me, but I just get a overall sense of dread when I smell this. Like a sweetness tainted by someone watching me, invasively, it is unsettling and dissonant. It is sweet, but in a way that feels wrong and unsafe. ...I basically get a predatory feeling from this perfume in a way I can't adequately describe, like masquerading as something cute and innocent but giving off the opposite and uncanny effect. It smells like an untrustworthy person. I don't think this is a work of art. So why isn't this a hate from me? These are inevitable perfume notes, but it doesn't make me retch, doesn't give me a headache, and I had no desire to scrub this off. It is very mellow, sweet, and musty. It’s not the worst fragrance but it is deeply unnerving. Undeniably unique, but unlikely to find broad appeal. But I reserve my hate to fragrances which offend me to the point of scrubbing off, this one did not provoke that reaction from me. I like @Mulamulanose 's comment on this.

Wow. Horrifying. This smells like going to see an R-rated movie by yourself in a 50 year old, dark, dusty cinema (it's the only one in your town) with rancid seats that haven't been cleaned in a decade. Someone spilled a glass of coke with too much lime juice on one of the seats ages ago, and the scent lingers in the air - truly putrid. A weird dude comes in and has to sit in the seat next to you depite all the other sears being empty. His breath reeks of decay and cheap beer with a hint of popcorn. The lime note is STRONGGG. This scent WILL get stuck in your nose and refuse to leave, like the man in the cinema. The musk of his outdated aftershave makes you dizzy, and then you fall asleep. (Bad idea.) This scent is for you if you're severely traumatized and want to traumatize anyone who smells this on you, or if you're the guy from the cinema. Ew.

eeeeeeeeeehhhh. on the skin I get nothing but popcorn and MUSTY. the popcorn is fine but everything else just becomes dank basement and I don't like it at all. I think it might be the rose? This is also one of those perfumes that gets this gross saliva note when you sniff too deep (from prior experience, I suspect labdanum). Saliva and baby wipes. I'm soooo sad bc I thought I would like this. but it's yucky :(

Hmmm I wish this didn't have the rose note. I think the rose is too much here. It overpowers everything else. The sour candy comes fully in the beginning as well as the coke and popcorn. Then it's rose and musk. I thought this was going to be THE popcorn scent for me and I just... can't- because of the rose. I'm not even a rose hater it's just not right to my nose for some reason.

Do not trust other reviewers, worst buy ever. This does not smell like popcorn or anything like it, it smell like a cheap coconut moisturiser. People believe they smell popcorn because of the listed notes, but its definitely an overpriced cheap smelling fragrance. Not worth it, dont buy it.

The popcorn note is really strong up front. Sour candy is more apparent in the dry down, as is the cola and old theater seat cushions. I know this is a super niche and artist scent, but I can't think of a single occasion I'd seriously wear this.

Stale popcorn and old lady rose, the smell of too many cramped for comfort. Perhaps the creator's experience, but I would not set foot in that theater.

The most repulsive perfume I've ever smelled, and I'm not easily repulsed. I embrace dark concepts but this (along with Inexcusable Evil, which I actually find more bearable) are the most disturbing scents I've ever tried. It elicits a visceral reaction in me, I find it deeply unsettling as it smells very unsafe and “wrong”, at the same time mixed with innocent childhood evoking notes, kind of like a creepy child predator lurking in the dark cinema room, hungrily watching 14 year old girls in summer dresses come to the movies giggling, waiting to approach them. Disgustingly evocative scent of a sleazy, bald man with grease stained clothes and dirty nails waiting for prey in an old, outdated, cheap cinema hall, with Cola stained chairs and popcorn leftovers all over the floor. Smells pervy and is sickeningly sweet.

VERY nausea inducing. Too much of musk and rose, especially the rose, WAY too much of it that it overpowers whatever's good in this fragrance. I really liked the concept and it was a huge let down that it turned out this way. In my experience, no perfume has been this nausea-inducing so far. I really wish it was what I had in mind. Huge disappointment 2/10 and it's only for the concept and faint notes that actually represent it to an extent.

Génération Godard from Toskovat is the scent of sticky soda spills on old seat cushions, the mouth-mangling sour and sugar of chewy citrus candies, and a greasy popcorn machine’s dying wheeze. A troupe of wounded, reckless weirdos working shifts in the grimy glamour of a historic cinema, their secrets and strange kinship the illicit musk and leathery glue that holds the decaying dream of this crumbling landmark together; the moody rose perfume steeped into the velvet lining of a moth-eaten fur coat pilfered from the musty lost and found closet a final sigh before the building is condemned.

I want to try this because the notes imply it could be like a more sophisticated tank battle edit: it was not. it's more like grosssssssss stale popcorn under your feet trying to shuffle out the perviest movie ever without waking up the guy who took you there on a date who has fallen asleep and is snoring. Smells like a perfume for children. popcorn + rose was a bad idea. i don't even want to think about what season or time of day it is best suited to as i can't take it seriously

I love this scent, i definitely get the popcorn note, it’s almost salty. But there’s this feeling of like a literal spark or pop - almost electricity- that comes with it. Reminiscent of the moment of a hot kernel finally popping and making that lovely noise. On the dry down I get amber all the way, with a syrupy soda smell but the soda is subdued. That popping emotion sticks the whole time. Love this one, takes a mature wearer. Lasts forever on clothes

Most nauseating musk mallow that i ever felt. I didnt get this sensation in years, my nose got conditioned with catpiss, salmon-like piss smell, wet dog and wet birds poop. I didnt put It on skin, too scared. I had a period when i was blindbuying musky fragrance, and luckly i didnt bought this. Will try tò find the courage tò put It on skin and write a more specific opinioni. Nothing like seminalis. Same bad smell as rasasi classic collection N1.

ngl ive tried alot of "crazy scents" that tiktok likes to glorify and doesn't arent even bad. This is genuinely one of the first fragrances in my life that made me feel really nauseous after wearing it. Like literally my stomach was churning when i was wearing it. I really wanted to like this cause the opening was really nice but it just kept mustier and mustier I had to scrub it off. I would rather wear Inexcusable evil tbh.....

The person under my comment is talking a bunch of crap, it does smell like Popcorn but certainly in a good way. When this fragrance dries down it kinda becomes a sort of Gourmand smell, it becomes more sweet and the popcorn and cola will blend together a bit more creating a really nice musky and slight sweet smell. I like both the opening and dry down. A good fragrance in my opinion.

That scene in Pearl(2022) where she's in the porno theater for the first time. This is exactly what it smells like to me. Greasy grimy visceral and primal. A little fearful maybe. Your friends manage the dingy local movie theater and you smoke in the empty rooms together long after closing time and well into the middle of the night. My husband hates this fragrance

I think this is kind of gross (in an interesting, and probably still wearable way) too but it really just smells like a sticky movie theater floor - I think your imagination has to be putting in some kind of strange overtime to pull "child predator" out of this. It's just buttered popcorn and flat coke.

@sagebelknap is correct, something here feels viscerally unsafe. I actually find it much more unsettling than Inexcusable Evil and really, really do not like the childhood memories it evokes. If "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol Oates was a fragrance, it would be this.

Wow just pure wow. The way this brand captures all these specific notes and its harmony is just pure madness. Generation Godard is a dirty and sweet rose fragrance with the nice and unique addition of that popcorn note that truly makes this fragrance intriguing. 8/10

Wait for the drydown— it improves greatly. Pulled this one out again while watching Pearl... love the concept, it perfectly captures that “sleazy underbelly of Hollywood” vibe. Song pairing: “Sweet Smell of Success” by Tomahawk

This has a sweet and tangy fizziness, with a generous helping of musk. The popcorn note is brief in the opening and the story telling is accurate to the notes listed! It’s not for me but it’s a unique experience
