Bulgakov

This is a review of Bulgakov 21 Limited Edition, a heavily modified version of the original Bulgakov. Wow, this is serious perfume! It is a deep, full, complex, changeable, leather fragrance not to be worn on a first (or second) date. I wear this when I want to be consumed by fragrance and I can afford the attention it demands. I suppose it could be worn in public, maybe on a hunting trip, for a coup attempt, or for a serious romp with a mature lover. But let me clear, I LOVE this perfume. It is a beautifully blended leather fragrance with a seductive and not overwhelming animalic aspect derived from a combination of ouds and castoreum. The use of the animalic is a diversion for the perfumer as she generally limits to natural botanicals. She really added the castoreum perfectly though, a testament to her ability. The main animalic leather aspect of this perfume is supported by a not too sweet amber, and less prominent floral, citrus and anisic notes. These various notes do pop out at times depending on condition and duration. The changeable nature makes the experience of wearing this very engaging. You cannot ignore this one!

My first Teone Reinthal fragrance certainly won't be my last. This is a beautiful composition that opens with bright citrus (lemon) and spice (star anise and caraway). The spicy/citrus combo reminds me of 70s/80s men's colognes, but far more natural and graceful. There is a heart of slight vanilla, amber, and intense florals, with a touch of mint from the star anise. The Vietnamese Oud is dry and woody. The fragrance finishes powdery. This is such a departure from other oud based perfumes, such as those of Areej le Dore or Bortnikoff, which are ultra dense, and whose notes are sometimes hard to tell apart. A lovely fragrance that is truly unisex and best worn on a special occasion, or when you simply want to smell amazing. I'll be trying more of TRNP's perfumes.

Bulgakov (Limited Edition) opens with a big indolic jasmine with hints of lavender, anise and a dirty spicy touch from the caraway. The oud accord doesn’t take a long time to appear, Teone has combined oud from multiple regions and the result is a complex oud accord with green earthy, mentholated, sweet resinous, and prominent leathery slightly animalic facets. After some time, I can detect the beautiful rose and narcissus. The far drydown is sweet leathery, I mainly get a leather accord with noticeable castoreum. In addition, I detect sandalwood and a sweet leathery amber accord.

Surprised to not see more people mention the lovely lavender here. It meshes beautifully with the anise and the two get tied up in a natural accord. This one took me a few wears to fully understand as I missed the heartnotes and mostly experienced a dandy but daring gentlemen’s top and a green/Oud base. That central rose/jasmine trail really transitions the two beautifully if you’re paying attention. Of course with naturals perfume behaves differently in different climes. Excited to see where this goes in winter.

This jewel reminds me of "Tabu" By Dana with it's vintage heavy thick patchouli. Galbanum is splashful here with lemon mix. The anise is adding the vintage twist. Oakmoss, narcissus, & jasmines are shown here but spread all over the blend while the cypriol is adding the oily texture to the blend. This is punk with hints of rock. An amusing ride through a hot sunny day in the desert crossing towns wearing leather. Impressive.

Bulgakov is one of my favorite - If I can say only one word, it's majestic! I'm overwhelmed by the wonder and the decadent scent at the end of the century (or early 20th century) from Bulgakov. Depending on health and weather conditions, Galbanum, Iris and Patchouli individually claim on my skin. That's a dazzling and sublime swirl. I can only be attracted to the scent<3
