Tuvara

My review is for the vintage perfume version, not the modern update. I think the bottle mine came from is the 1950s, so it's either a first or second formula. It smells like buttery, slightly yeasty, delicious cinnamon rolls waiting for their frosting. It's delicious, warm, and spicy. I detect faint notes of tuberose, which combines beautifully with the cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, coriander, and what must be very smoothly blended sandalwood, ambregris, civet, and possibly deer musk. It shimmers and smells incredible. Absolutely LOVE this one! It is spicy enough and gentle enough on the florals to smell equally good on men as on women. Due to the natural components, it does fade before the 12hr mark on skin, but the longevity is excellent in the bath oil and perfume versions. I'm on the hunt for a full original bottle now. I can't speak to the updated version, but it does look like the listed notes have changed a lot. Added more aldehydes, added myrrh (which I absolutely cannot stand in perfumes. It makes my throat swell. If it's in the original, it's such a tiny amount that it's not triggering my allergies), decreased the vanilla, and increased the geranium. The lavender here is gentle and not camphorous. There are hints of nag champa incense and a touch of magnolia, but again, so finely blended that you really can't detect them unless they're favorite notes or you despise them. To me the cinnamonum verum (not cassia because this version is too sweet and dessert-type as opposed to strongly spicy - if you cook quite a bit and use them for different recipes or Asian cooking, you will know exactly what I mean. In the dry down the cinnamon quiets, the aldehydes fade, and you're left with a whisper of a white floral over an amber-musk base (except there is no benzoin and no actual amber). It's strange to describe and exprience an amber with no amber. If you normally hate amber or benzoin bases, this is a good perfume to try to get that soft, sweet, almost aquatic base, but without those ingredients or the common synthetics.

I just received my mini size of this perfume; wanted to try it before committing to more expense. I started out looking for Tuvache Jungle Gardenia, but couldn't find anything reasonably priced, so I read the reviews on this and found a mini. I'm glad I couldn't find the other, as I'm absolutely loving this! Tabu is listed as a similar fragrance, and the first whiff out of the bottle did remind me of that. But a few moments later, I realized this fragrance is like nothing I have. And is just what I've been looking for--a warm, sort of spicy (but not too much), sultry (but not over the top), and not-too-sweet fragrance. I need more of this! It's already become a favorite. This is one of the highest-rated fragrances I've seen on this site, and I can see why.

WOW! What a powerhouse! Who would have thought sweet little carnations could pack such a wallop? To call Tuvara heady is to underestimate it's sensuality. This is a warm, sweet, spicy, floral oriental dominated by the aforementioned carnations. It is highly reminiscent of Youth Dew but far deadlier because it lacks the ladylike undercurrent of the Lauder classic. No ma'am, Tuvara is no lady. She is the temptress who gives life a sly smile and says, "Catch up! I won't wait for you!". Wear when you want to be noticed -- and remembered.

I used the oil concentrate in the late 60's. It was one gorgeous evening scent described as one which could cut through the cigarette smoke ( of then smoking allowed entertainment venues). And it lived up to its reputation. It was sooo potent, I passed the 2/3 full one ounce bottle to my sister. She returned it minus 1/3 ounce a couple of years later. I finally donated it.

Testing a vintage Spray Concentrate, perhaps 1960 ́s... Wow, just wow. This is a wonderful wonderful perfume that should be far more famous. Opens with a fresh herbal floral,with a touch of floral sweetness. Woody and fresh and spices too with a touch of sweetness. Powerhouse and yes can cut through smoke most likely but it is not cloying...

incense and myrrh, labdanum with an odd note I can't place that probably is the chamomile/lavender combo in with the incense with lots of musk and some sandalwood in the base; I have the vintage EDT minis as well as a full bottle.

yes this I like a lot. A warm spicy and powdery oriental and very akin to Youth Dew, (though I believe this preceded YD). I wear it day or night but it would be a bit heavy for hot summer, IMO. Good strength and staying power and pretty good price point.

I had the original Tuvara many many years ago. It seems Youth Dew was stronger in its own way. Tuvara was spicey and heavy with a lot of depth like Youth Dew but on a different spectrum. Dark, strong with resins etc. These two fragrances are not alike! Each had their own signature. Both were tenacious. It softens over a few hours. Ahhhhhh! If you can find the violet by Tuvache`, get it! It too was a heavy and strong, it was a deep dark amber purple, almost like grape wine, the strongest concentrated violet I had ever smelled and owned. Ahhhhh! All purchased in the mid 70's. Edit. 4/9/23 This also is a shout-out to another gem by Tuvache, "Reverie". In the beautiful porcelain white and blue period scene bottle. This was one of my favorites when I got serious about "good quality" fragrances in the 70's! Real oakmoss! Such a green refreshing rose and another floral. Simple but gorgeous! Ohhhh oakmoss, how wonderful the real stuff smells. It ends soapy, clean, sweet and green. Lovely classic! I have hunted down four of these bottles in different sizes. Edp and cologne! I will still be on the hunt. My old bottles still smells divine.

This gem - It’s lovely, like Opium, with some sharp/sour/greenish notes up top that might be a result of spoilage, but who knows - my bottle is vintage, and it's been sitting a looong time. Unopened though! I bought this as a foray into the unknown past. Vintage! Worth the $15! After not wearing it since I tried it out, I was thinking about selling my second bottle that I purchased as soon as I applied this, but after trying it again today, I think I’ll keep the back-up. You really can’t beat the smell for the price. For those who are adventurous, I urge you to pick one up if you’ve got a spare fifteen bucks lying around.

I came across this by chance whilst reading reviews and at the time was looking for a fragrance that I could wear to work that wouldn't cost the earth. Yes it's pleasant, like a cheap version of Youth Dew but it has it's own distinctness. I can spray it about all over, like a body spray, without feeling the need to save every drop, which is nice as I can envelop myself in it for the whole day. And it does last all day, which to me equals more value for money. At first it is a bit potent but becomes greener as it warms up. I find this herby and powdery at the same time.

I think of this as a good all rounder. Good price, nice scent, good lasting power, good cold, better warm. Powdery green. It does smell a bit like Youth Dew but has its own character too. It can hold its own position with pride on the dressing table.

I have a vintage spray. What a lovely perfume. It is sweet green, soft and powdery. But a rich powdery.
