Nightscape

Tempo is one of my beloveds. I went into the Ulrich Lang discovery set blind and was NOT expecting Nightscape to be so similar, but what I wasn't expecting even more was to find something that is like Tempo but even better (??????). It feels so wrong to say... but Nightscape is like Tempo with a few more facets that make it a little more sparkling (the lime and mint). No, one is not better or worse - Tempo is a little more quiet and meditative, and sometimes that's what you want - but anyone who loves Tempo should definitely check out Nightscape. Edit: More thoughts after wearing both Nightscape and Tempo a few more times - Tempo is a little more damp/humid, like walking through a mossy temperate rainforest and smelling the wet trees and earth, whereas Nightscape is more like a desert night, dry, dusty, and cool at the same time. Tempo ends up just every so slightly beating out Nightscape for me.

I didn't know I wanted a minimalist, placid patchouli until I encountered Nightscape. It begins with a lucidity that's uncommon for a 'patch,' with the closest reference being the classic Givenchy Gentleman. While Gentleman is a sonorous fanfare, Nightscape is an ambient tone, like a clear bell, perhaps due to the lime and herbs that accompany it. As the sparkle of the opening eases, it is a soft and cordial experience, cool in feel, with an underlying sensuality. Everything is sealed in a dusty, misty musk, with the dark chocolate undertones of patchouli just peeking through in its final stages. I can't emphasize enough the lightness of Nightscape, but do not mistake that for weak—it reveals the nuances of patchouli from within a sleek, modern chypre structure. It is charismatic, like someone who walks into a room and needs not say much nor take up too much oxygen, but they glow softly.

Spot-on description by the previous reviewer, I'm thus not going to reinvent the wheel. A love for me in terms of scent, but just a like overall because I wish that the projection was stronger. Great powdery patch and honeyed leather scent with a hint of originality. The scent would be more suited for a cozy evening, but its low sillage makes it a great choice for the office, best for Fall days. Anyways, overspraying is required! Fall days, 30+

Except for the initial brief citrus-mint whiff, it's simply old leather garden gloves, soaked in soil, flowers and herbs that have been plucked for their long service. A great fragrance and smell, love it!

A linear, citrus-leathery perfume without any development from top to base notes. Patchouli is less earthy here, more dusty. An office fragrance with a moderate longevity and sillage. Fragrance: 7/10, Longevity: 7/10, Sillage: 6/10.

This one has an interesting development. Nightscape opens with an extremely "clear" patchouli note that is surprisingly unaltered, considering how tame the scent is in the long run. The opening patch note is about as direct of a patch as I've smelled, for about 5 minutes. Really great opening. As the heart approaches, the sharper green notes make an appearance to refrigerate the patchouli note and lend a definite soapy and sharp woodsy vibe to the scent. This is probably my least favorite phase, and is somewhat of a letdown after the excellent patchouli opening. However,this phase is unique among patchoulis and is well done - so this is just my personal preference. In the base, the scent drops both the purity of the opening and sharper greens of the middle and becomes a comforting, very smooth skin scent of tonka and musk, with just enough of the original patch peeking through. Overall the scent is pretty minimalistic compared to the usual amber-infused patchouli fragrances, but this is intentional and effective. A worthy addition to the patchouli genre.

I get mostly the patchouli, but it's not too strident, as is sometimes the case. The other notes complement it well. So far the strength seems to be in the good to very good range, but not monstrous (one full spray to the chest). I think this would be good for layering too, if you want to add some patchouli to a scent without any. Overall, nicely done, but not something as unique or statement-making as some other niche fragrances that one might prefer to spend this kind of money on. UPDATE: The strong patchouli doesn't last more than about an hour, an then it's a lot weaker overall. Nothing comes up to dominate and while it's certainly pleasant, I get a blend that isn't all that distinct. Still, it's clearly superior to most recent designers. Longevity is good, though, so if you want to "amp up" the patchouli here you could layer it with an inexpensive patchouli oil.

I've been on a hunt for a leather and patchouli combo and I must say Nightscape caught me by surprise. This starts off as a relaxing and calm Patchouli note with mint lime and bergamot. Beautiful opening. Within a few minutes the leather begins to come in, not harsh but light, really nice almost suede like. I then get geranium, violet and basil. It is during this stage that things feel a little "green and fresh". Absolutely Fantastic. At the final stage of this fragrance, you get the leather/patchouli with amber, guava and possibly Tonka though not listed. Its not sweet at all but rather relaxing, smooth and classy. This sits close to the skin and thats absolutely fine by me. Its fragrances like this that make you appreciate leather as a note and appreciate the craft of blending contradicting notes into a composition. Really well done.

This is a great unisex banger (don't get the "men" category it's enlisted in). At first, it seems a bit simple but patchouli plays so beautifully with those green&herbal notes and it ends up enveloping you in a wonderful warm leather scent. Somehow, I associate this fragrance with the month of September—it's fresh, yet cozy, and radiates unobtrusively for hours.

I love patchouli fragrances, as my skin eats up top notes in seconds, so dry downs are the all important test. A liberal application had faded within an hour, completely! Bring back Patchouli Pure (Fresh) - the only well balanced Patchouli I've tried.

a soft, earthy patchouli powerhouse (but not overpowering.) reminiscent of etro patchouly. i smelled this on a flight attendant the other day and had to ask. lovely.

This is an excellent fragrance, long lasting, very masculine. I don't really get much patchouli, more leather but soft. One of my favorites and great for the price.

I've been sampling this and love it. Hadn't realized it's "for men" - any other ladies wear this?
