Tribu Blue Pour Homme

Initial impressions are mixed. On one hand this is incredible- a plum heavy very woody rose oud. The wood here is fantastic, it smells like the cedar from YSL L'homme Ultime -it has to be the same aromachemical. It is a bright and effervescent woodiness coupled with an astringent Montale-esque dry synth oud. Honestly, this iteration of oud is perfect for this composition and proves the point that the right ingredient is better than the more expensive ingredient (a more rounded oud like in Oud Wood or Versace Oud Noir would not gel with this composition. Most real ouds would make as much sense as adding cumin to an Alfredo recipe). Accompanying the plum is a luminous citrus accord, I smell bergamot and sweet lemonade. The rose is prominent and joined by fruity nuances of raspberry and blueberry, too. Together this creates an almost "blue raspberry over rose oud" feel, and it's just so bright and joyous and unique. So as I said at the outset, incredible stuff. So why a mixed impression? Unfortunately I got a slight but noticeable whiff of ammonia in the heart of this. I truly hope this is a fluke, or was because I was wearing too much (this is very strong and needs only 2 or 3 sprays, not the 5.i wore in testing). I will be testing this much more and see if the ammonia stays present or not. Without the ammonia note this would be one of my most unique fresh scents and would earn a place alongside my top shelf favorites.

i may be biased cause i love this brand from the 90s but the new men line's are interesting. This one for example is just an overpowering blue oud. It smells strong and punchy. its a refreshing daily wear scent but doesnt do anything out of the ordinary. it can be used in the car even. it gives a warm happy vibe.
