Dancing In The Flames

I’m in love! Definitely found my autumn signature scent! And for what it’s worth, this was a blind buy made out of pocket. I’m not an influencer or anything like that, but I’ve become such a fan of this house’s quality (and perfumer Sunyata’s customer service is A+ to boot). So! In hope of helping others give this one a try.... Dancing in the Flames is smokey and resinous and subtly sweet. I struggle with scents like MM’s By the Fireplace because the burnt sugar note becomes overbearing as time goes on, but Dancing in the Flames hits all of my autumn cravings perfectly. The composition is just so incredibly smooth! - The incense and resin is present, but not so thick that you feel you’re browsing an earthy/“hippie” shop. - The Frankincense is more reminiscent of a distant bonfire in the forest than church halls. - Honey notes often smell really foul with my body chemistry (almost like pee, although I adore the scent of fresh honey), but I only get the subtlest whiff here, and it plays nicely with the other accords. -The apricot and cinnamon lingered in the background for the first half hour, giving it the perfect amount of sweetness to round things out. I don’t really agree with the comparison with Mevlana, which is spicier and sweeter and more of a winter scent to me. I feel like this is a safe blind buy for those who like smoky scents but highly recommend Untamed’s discovery set if you prefer to be cautious (there are also lots of other amazing finds in that box; I now own three).

Absolutely adore this!!! Warm spicy and resinous and unique! The mastic is forefront and beautifully done. Then the barley and cocoa kick in. The birch tar is light and reminds me of my childhood with my dad’s soap. I love all of Sunyata’s scents! Each one evokes a memory for me! This one reminds me a little of Mevlana but I enjoy this so much more. The dry down is stunning and lasts for hours. More fall winter but I could still see this on a summer night!

This is such a well done and comforting cooler weather fragrance. I am not picking up on the Apricot like others. To me it is a natural smelling yet very sophisticated cinnamon bun in a home with wood fireplace. It is not cloying at all nor overly sweet. Perfect for my tastes.

unfortunately this perfume suffers from the same problem i had with mevlana: it turns into sweet pickles on my skin.

There's one version of the phoenix's myth that I enjoy most: At the end of its life cycle, the phoenix would make its nest from cinnamon barks, adorned with resins and other fragrant matters. It proceeds to ignite itself on fire, and will be reborn from the ashes. This perfume is a phoenix's nest. It starts off smelling like cinnamon, apricot and freshly lit frankincense; and gradually becoming more burnt, reminding me of the ashy scent of censers used in Catholic/Orthodox church. It's a very nice frankincense-forward amber. I think it smells better and lasts longer on fabric, I can smell the nuances more.
