Valentino

My mother used to wear this perfume in the 1990's when I was young her bottle had since ran out a while ago...She used to wear the EDT and the empty bottle she still kept till present day. I could still get whiffs of this marvelous scent when I sniff the nozzle and it brings upon such pleasant memories.. I was a little kid sitting near my mum's feet as she was getting dressed, putting on her make up, and most importantly her perfume. She was young, beautiful and not suffering from any health problems like she is today..and I was a kid with nothing that I have to worry about in the world at all, everyday felt so free. To sum it up, this scent makes me feel very joyful sometimes very nostalgic, re-living the past and temporarily escaping the chaotic world that I am living in today. I was lucky enough to find another bottle earlier today from a perfumery who had put a few of their old tester bottles out for sale after Christmas, I got the EDP (a little more powdery and dense compared to the airy and green EDT) about 90% full for $80. Not a bad price to pay for such a wonderful creation that makes both my mother and my self very happy when we smell whiffs of it.

Floral, dry-sweet and green lots of fresh cut roses, lillies (without the hayfever) and peachy basil on my skin. My mother would wear this in the early 90's for special events and it screamed class to me from a young age. It oozes freshness, and sophistication. This is truly delicious and hard to get hold of without paying a fortune. I had a bottle a few years ago which had turned, recently got a new one for a bargain price which had been stored correctly and smells amazing brings back so many memories. this has a dry sweetness which reminds me of Yvresse and Ysatis, but this has a bit more of a green undertone which reminds me of Estee Lauder Private Collection with the green wet rose notes. Delicious, I start craving this in the spring along with my Fidji, Estee Beautiful love and Elizabeth Taylors diamonds and emeralds all fruity slightly tropical tinged fresh cut florals with green herbaceous undertones.

The cool, crisp green elegance of Valentino opens with what reminds me of the smell of apple blossoms, which happen to be in bloom here in New England. Much like these ephemeral flowers, it smells dewy and clear. The other florals, hyacinth, lily of the valley, reminds me of how you experience them in the air rather than up close and personal. There is also a cucumber-melon-like quality in its heart (perhaps due to cyclamen aldehyde). Its trembling, vernal vibrancy grows more rosy, sweet and dry over its development, winding down to a soft mossiness and subtly animalic musk. It's surprising that among enthusiasts of 70s vintages, especially green fragrances, this isn't discussed quite as much. It's a strikingly beautiful floral, feeling like the flowers and slightly bitter foliage together, after a rain, the sun warming the leaves.

Posh stuff. A perfume of times where Mums were young, the guests for the house were expected, nice food, nice music and most interesting conversations, along with..perfumes. I suppose I was guessing which perfume who will wear, like in old times children where watching on which horse someone have arrived with visit. Valentino is smell of glamour, that was possible and accessible even in hard times, one drop and you are a Queen. One drop and even simple dress will do for theatre, one drop, stolen from Mum's wardrobe, and you are the princess at school. It is still so very beautiful and slightly bitterly sad, as we can only return in childhood days by memory, provided we have this magical drop of Valentino. I want to thank my friend blacktaffeta for this wonderful present, so privileged.

I am immediately drawn back to around 1984. This is one of the first perfumes I bought while living overseas. It captures a time in my life when I was young, felt invincible and carefree like a giddy, worldly traveller who was enjoying life to the fullest and marvelling in the sights and sounds of another world. I remember the sweet and sparkling scent that made me feel so much more grownup and mature than I really was and I probably paid way more than I should have for a perfume but the purchase was made because of the way the scent made me feel and I never regretted that purchase or those memories. Just thinking about it makes me want to search for another bottle for memories sake. P.S. I found a bottle...I'm in Valentino heaven!

How I loved this perfume. I went through many bottles of this fragrance in the 80's and 90's (I still have nearly half of a large bottle). Sadly, although Valentino is a beautiful, classic floral, well blended and arguably the best fragrance ever produced by Valentino, I no longer wear it as it came to remind me of a difficult time of my life. Such is the deep connection of scents and memories, both happy and sad. Well worth buying (if you can find it) for lovers of complex vintage fragrances in the same vein as Jean Patou Joy and YSL Champagne. Valentino should consider remaking this one......

LOVED LOVED and LOVED this perfume than any other in my life! Wore it for as long as it existed. It was delicate, classy and no one wore it! I kept receiving compliments for it too. The bottle was so pretty too, at first it had a red tassel attached to it, so chic. I will never ever find anything that I will like as much but such is life: the best go first! I replaced it by Fleur Oriental by Miller Harris for a while which got discontinued too, bad luck.

Valentino (1980s), the dramatic glamour. Opulent, elegant, plush. A perfume with red velvet shoulders, late-night laughter, and the glimmer of chandeliers. This is where you go when you want impact, when you want to feel like the main character in a life full of texture and depth. It's not trendy - it's eternal. Italian sophistication at its peak. I'm very lucky to own a bottle of this masterpiece.

Born "kokofisert", I was absolutely mad about perfumes, my head is all about smells and fragrances, and this was one of the first bottles I bought in the early 80ths, when I was a green pea, it costed a million, I thought - and I still love it so very much =)) Edit: It was the red box, also with the mini bottle (why didn't any grown ups tell me to cherish and protect my treasures...??)

Liqueur of roses&Co.! Magnific fragrance. Bitter Roses, sparkly citruses and leaves to lift up the hyacint. A concert of notes distincted, lights and shadows. This perfume is underscribeable. Vibrant vibrant! With a strong personality itself. Unic. It is stupid to discontinue such class and elegance. It is a real Masterpiece and make you in a good feeling.

An amazing green floral, lost for all I know... I have a bottle of the extrait, measuring 10cm, around 1/2 oz bottle with 90 percent remaining. It has its red tassel and engraved valentino on the neck, 1985 on the bottom. I am in Paris, France. Let me know if you're interested in buying. :)

Finally after years of searching I was able to find my first self bought perfume in 1993. Although time made the perfume a bit stronger it is still the same of what I had in mind for so many years. Maybe I will sell it again to give the experience I had. To return to those days.

Thank you dear Iris_it for the preceous sample I treasure each drop I totally love it,uplifting and elegant. Rosy,green and clean,I wouldn't call it a sweet perfume. I wonder if modern perfumes will have a retro style such as this.

Very green floral with a bit of spice, V. is rightfully a classic. Other reviewers have described it to the hilt, so I will only add a wish: please include a picture of the ruffled, fan shaped bottle!

This is the one that I reach for when i need a respite from the sweet, fruity or vanilla fragrances. Its light and elegant, floral and feminine. And the bottle is so charming !!!

One of my Top 5 perfumes. Very light and elegant. It's a pitty I cannot find it at stores, anymore. Valentino made his best here.

A very feminine, classic, sophisticated and lady-like perfume. One of my top favourite one's.

I don't normally enjoy a lot of vintage perfumes, but this one is really lovely! It doesn't scream at you, but rather whispers class. Almost too classy for me lol even as an almost 40-year-old woman, yet it never ventures into feeling like an "old lady" perfume. Not my usual style at all -- I prefer woody, sweet, or powdery scents usually -- but I could see myself wearing this beautiful green floral for special occasions. It would be a lovely scent to wear to a wedding or a daytime formal event. Too bad that I see it has been discontinued and is hard to find.

Wearing this is like sitting in a plush white room with a vase of freshly cut long stemmed white roses... hmm sensory heaven. Also, it's a 'must have' scent in every girl's perfume wardrobe, simply because you will crave for it once in a while when all the regular sweet favorites begin to feel cloying at some point in time. Not an everyday scent for me, as it's a tad too dry on me but a real respite when I need one, with its blast of dry green yet floral rose.

One of the first perfumes owned by myself, it has a typical green note which is pleasing to the olfactory. A very classic scent which should go well with wedding bells. Sadly I cannot get hold of this anymore. Does anyone know where can I get hold of a bottle?

Found this at the bottom of my perfume drawer today! Bought this in about 1986, 75ml EDT and still have 2/3 bottle left because I recall going off this quite quickly.Found it too sweet.

Just got my vintage miniature and not sure yet where this fits in my toolbox. I need more time and wears with it, so what follows is only my first impression...so don’t take it as more than that... This is quite a fancy lady. I am pretty sure I am not that fancy lady, but I admire her for being true to who she is. I think this lady, if she is not at charity luncheons, is a boss lady who has been in that position a long time, and no one questions why. If I were a new boss lady, I would not dare to wear this, because you might piss someone off.

I pused to buy miniatures of Valentino V on Ebay about 9 years ago, as they were selling for next to nothing at the time and this fragrance was the only one I owned for a couple of years and I only wore for special occasions. Then, as time went on, I started wearing other scents and without meaning too, I kind of forgot all about my beloved Valentino and I kept meaning to revisit, so I kept this parfum on my dressing table where I could see it and it always gave me joy whenever I looked at it, but it wasn't until recently, that it was calling me to wear it again. So, tonight on this, warm, pleasant Friday evening; its just like being visited by an old friend. And my immediate thought is that they just don't make them like this anymore. Many fragrances come close with a vintage vibe, but this is vintage, classic designer in its soul, from a time when houses where involved in the creation as a scent, so the scent captured the essence and craftsmanship of a house, instead of being a marketing tool. And Valentino V is exactly that, fine craftsmanship in a bottle. The first ever fragrance by the house of Valentino, which as a brand was known for its for garments made in the trademark “Valentino red” (rosso Valentino) and whose style was described as jet-set chic. Valentino dressed many A- listers, socialites and aristocratic women, such as: Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Jacqueline Kennedy; including the dress she wore to her husband’s funeral in 1963 and then, in 1968, a dress for her wedding to Aristotle Onassis. Then in 1978, he released Valentino, just after Yves Saint Laurent launched Opium and the fragrance lauch guests included:-Lauren Bacall, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Cardin, Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin who were invited to attend a ballet; where he gave away about 1,000 bottles of this fragrance, Valentino di Valentino, which was a huge success. Valentino V di Valentino, is a very gamorous, opulent, warm, elegant yet personable,, Floral Green fragrance; and it is a scent that is generous with its mixed bouquet of heady florals and fruits. It had some green aromatic basil, at tge top and just a touch of moss and the unmistakably, delightfull purr of civet and musky animalics. And my most favorite part of this scent, is the hyacinth note. Which is absolutely glorious and heady, as it opens up in full bloom, alongside the carnation and rose, which both pla a supporting role with the LOTV, which honestly is not my favorite note by far, but here it blends in so well, that I am actually enjoying it and next to my beloved Eau de Gucci Concentree (1982) this is my favorite hyacinth fragrance and is definitely evocative of the late 1970s. Some have said, that they find this too elegant and don't know what to do with fragrances like this, which is a shame. As you can find a time and place for scents like these, even if you are home alone, drinkiing red wine, eating pop corn, watching an old movie and embracing some nostalgia and good old fashioned elegance.

I wore this perfume for 30 years. I'm not up on the terminology of perfumes, but I'm learning. After the last few purchases failed to live up to the original scent, I realized that whether they were simply old or "reissued" that I was out of luck. Nothing smells the same as the original. I have tried the others in the Valentino line-up, but nothing compares. Interestingly, my children used to say I smelled like the beach when I wore it. My husband said it smelled like my own body scent, and he's not one to like perfumes at all. They make his eyes water and his nose itch! I think the common denominator in my newer perfume choices is lily of the valley, a flower I have always adored. My daughter, now grown, likes Valentina. I happen to like Juliette Has a Gun's Romantina, which is very similar, I'm learning. My olfactory sense is acute, and I think I've been trying to find a replacement for this for years. I had stopped wearing perfume altogether until recently. Now, I'm digging into this site and loving learning and reading opinions. Bottom line: each scent takes on a life of its own when you wear it. Also, sometimes you outgrow a perfume. I think that may have been the case with Valentino. Regardless, it's the baseline or my taste in scents, and the learning experience is great here!

review of the pure parfum: It's true, as Planet X's review points out. This is "posh stuff". And it is for a reason. Valentino Garavani never made a secret of wanting only the most luxurious look and feel to come out of his clothes. A woman wearing Valentino knows she is part of the creation of one of the last ruling kings of couture. This first perfume by Valentino couldn't be anything but posh. Recherche', elegant, sophisticated like his eponymous red gowns. Hyacinth and cyclamen are very present in this perfume, and the green accord of the top notes fuses onto it like foliage to the scent of flowers, to give the impression of a room full of bouquets, whole flowers including leaves. The middle notes last a very long time in the parfum version, a feature which places Valentino firmly in the 1980s. After a good two hours they finally reluctantly give way to the base, which is still sparkly and retains a certain aloofness which never gives way to animalic vulgarity, despite the civet. Wear rigorously with Valentino red silk.

Opening is strikingly green, fresh, optimistic. There's a tiny touch of citric, but the signature note to my nose is - Lily of the Valley (Muguet). This isn't a weighty Diorissimo style Lily of the Valley, there's no Ylang Ylang. In fact it reminds me of a younger fresher Jardins de Bagatelle. Then the jasmine, carnation & rose, florals assert themselves. Vintage Valentino, settles into a warm recognisable floral. As with most 70s/80s scents this creates an unapologetically womanly mood, no sweet retreats, or earthy oud or patchouli. What is striking is this scent isn't an opulent resinous chypre, like Opium, Poison, Obsession, or KL. Instead, hours later and it's opulence rests on an insouciant light breezy floral. A masterpiece, that the current Valentino house could update & reissue. Mine is a 4ml mini, in a old boxed "Designer Collection" 80s set. Seemingly stored in such good condition even the top notes haven't faded. Get a tiny boxed bottle, a few dabs will be enough, wear it when you're in no mood to apologise.

I detect a damp, anisic note of violet in the opening, though none is listed. Could a violet accord have been accidentally summoned in such a wild blend of notes? The violet holds sway for quite awhile so perhaps it is borne of some eccentricity in the construction of the other complex accords (hyacinth, muguet, carnation, cyclamen), and then bolstered by the basil and 'green' notes. ...or maybe it just wasn't added to the list, either by Valentino or Fragrantica. As this sense of violet wanes, other flowers less defineable but seemingly centered around jasmine become more prominent. Later still, rose becomes more bold. For me, this plays as a light and idyllic scent, both intricate and delicate in its construction. ..but such sylphic aspirations do come at a cost to its full wearability. For this is yet another one best suited for daydreamy moments of reverie and solitude, ...rather than the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The inherited flask is all classic, femininely and floral. A flowery garden in spring from which there can be perceived some not very distant forest that finishes catching you. The classic . I am charmed with one the intense color of the splash cologne in his interior.

A bottle of parfum bought for me in Paris 1993 tiny bottle with red tassle in the red box, thought I was very sophisticated wearing this, wore it for nights out I remember this being quite intense and distinctive.

I bought this today and it smells good.I do smell lemon in it I don't know if I am going to keep or return this because i bought it unsniffed and it is a bit dated,I like Valentino V better.

Maybe my top notes have vanished as this gives me a power-blast of floral, mostly lily and hyacinth. It's a bit like Jardins de Bagatelle although with fewer blooms in the bouquet.

This was my mother's Signature scent, growing up in Italy this is all I could smell on her. Such a Classic chic scent, such such a shame they discontinued it! :-(

It is very similar to Fleurissimo of Creed, but more classic way from Civet and Oakmoss, and more sharply green - maybe Galbanum, in the note it said Basil.

This perfume is like traveling in time inside me, it makes me fragile and too sensitive, it describes an impossible past and distant dreams...

I immediately detect the peach note, but I don't know why the perfume does not smell "sweet" at all to me!

Signor Valentino, please bring this one back.
