In New York

Got this on the mail some 30 min ago and rushed to try. Bottle and packaging are top notch, elegant and classy. Fragrance wise, on first application at the beginning it reminded very much of Bleu de Chanel but in a good way, not as a cheap clone and not a 1:1 copy. Then another scent popped up in the memory and had to rush to check to confirm. This is very but very close also to A&F Fierce/Montblanc Legend, but with much better projection and longevity. I also get a very similar opening to AdG Profumo. I just made a side-by-side comparison on skin and they smell very close as well with very similar projection. For those that are on the verge of splashing the price of AdGP, this can be its closest cousin and for less than half the price if you get it from the discounters. I still have to experience the drydown and longevity, but this is as far as the opening goes. Will expand. Update: where AdGP's drydown rests on a clear layer of ISO E Super (cedarwood), this stays undefined, a bit plasticky and not as classy. All in all, it's a great alternative to AdGP for about 3+ hours. After that, it's not. Maybe good to have handy for reapplication on every day use. Update 2: this one has grown on me to the point of being my safe and dumb reach when I want something classy, fresh and uplifting. Got a similar vibe to Hermes Rocabar, but more to the 'blue' side than the citric and leather that is Rocabar's signature. It's a great clean scent for after a summer shower, very classy and lasts quite good on skin. As our noses evolve, our opinions change so after 2 years, this is one of my best all weather scents. An underrated gem IMHO.

van cleef and arpels in new york is a nice scent. nothing more, nothing less. you cant say it smells bad(i have to say it's very people pleasing) but this edt will not rock your world for sure. it is a freshy with orange, musk, lavender and tonka, synthetic in a good way so not cheap at all. i can compare it to bleu de chanel edt but you can find many similar scents in the blue category. i have few parfumes from this house and this is the most modern of the group but it's the one i prefer the less. to me, midnight in paris and the others are more inspired and genuine. in new york is a nice scent with a good price, it's very safe and versatile, very mass-appealing, it helps you when u dont want to risk. on my skin the performance is good, i cant complain about it. good for every season, every situation, every age group. anytime, anywhere! in new york è un buon profumo, nulla di speciale ma sicuramente piacevole, utile quando non sai che mettere per fare una bella figura senza rischiare. è sulla linea di bleu de chanel edt, per far capire con cosa si ha a che fare. buona performance sulla mia pelle, è quello della casa che mi piace meno ma è senz'altro il più moderno e versatile. scent-7,5 longevity-8 sillage-7,5 uniqueness-6 versatility-8,5 presentation-7 back up bottle?no compliment factor-8 my vote-7,5 in one word- safe alternative- bleu de chanel edt ps- im not sure if it's still in production...

Blind buy for my husband. I love Sophia Constant. I love the notes in this cologne. He opened the box,sprayed it into the air. A little on his wrists. The lemon and mandarin grab you at the opening. The lavender and woods enter next. And the amber wraps itself around it all in the end and it dries down into this clean, earthy, deep scent that begs a woman to assault the man wearing it. This stuff is sex in a bottle. It's good for any season, any time of day, any occasion.

Definitely a summer scent, so I will wait a few months for my final verdict. For now: It is sweet, it last about 6-7 hours, now I have it 9 hours and it is a skin scent. It has some kind of scent bubble, similar to dior sauvage. The scent feels complementary with Midnight in Paris, as a summer scent and MIP as a winter. Some reviewers said it is generic, I think it is sophisticated and rounded. I'll be back in summer to finish this review. For now it is a thumb up.

I really like it - and I do like Plat's assessment - the centre-stage airy lavender and clary sage accord is really well done and takes up most of the life of a wear for me. The naysayers will have you believe that it's too much like everything else but, y'know, it's fashion and of its time. Well priced too. It's elegant, not too sweet and may well accompany me to the office a few times this summer.

Doesn't smell like guilty. I can see the comparison tho. This is more refined and sexy. Deff brings to mind what modern elegance should smell like. Also perfect for a white tee and some jeans. Awesome price point for the quality of this juice. High marks all across the board from me. Solid 8/10

I absolutely love this fragrance one of the best I've paid under 30 for,it smells exactly like Dylan blue mixed with invictus to me,a amazing scent I give this a 9 out of 10 based on the price of it and I get 8 plus hours with great projection on my skin.......peace

I've been using it a month ago, actually it's a respectable fragrance, and i admit it's not a clone of anything not even try to be, In New York has its own personality I recommend it for summer nights

A lot of great fragrances such as this one gets bad ratings cause they are so called generic,this is a amazing slept on scent

VC&A In New York is one of the best scents in the league of safe, crowd pleasers. Look no further, nevermind the note check. If you know and like most of below listed fragrances, there's a VERY GOOD CHANCE that you will like In New York too: - A&F Fierce - A&F Fierce Confidence - Dior Sauvage - Bleu de Chanel - Mont Blanc Legend (Intense) - Versace Dylan Blue Personally I resemble VC&A In New York to Versace Dylan Blue and A&F Fierce Confidence the most. Sauvage is too spicy and sweeter, and Bleu de Chanel has its metallic citrusy edge that stands out. Considering it can be found pretty cheap online, and the scent you get in return, it would've been unfair to give a negative review. UPDATE (1 YEAR USE): It is not as generic as I thought at first weeks. This really grew on me, from like to love. I appreciated VC&A In New York much more in contrast when testing side by side with similar scents, and noticed how "bright" this one stands out. There's this Nivea handcream-ish note in the background which I started to pick after months of use, together with the aquatic notes but still remaining somewhat sweet (not gourmand sweet, just warm fresh) and safe for every occasion. My hand automatically goes to it when I hesitate what to wear. Conclusively an underrated fragrance.

Being always fan of Van Cleef fragrances, and with this one I can tell there's no exception, is easy to recognize and with a nice bled of ingredients. It is the first time I'm wearing it, and need to see the performance by the end of the day. So far I can still smell it nicely after 6 hrs. Update: At the en of the day it has a good performance, still present with some sillage at the end of the work hours, and my shirt after the third day still has presence of it, the lemon scent prevails, but very subtle not like bug spray.. lol over all is a good fragrance I would probably restock on in, and IMO it could be all seasons, but well that a personal choice, as I wear any cologne when I feel like it regardless of the season.

In New York by Van Cleef is an aromatic, fruity and woody fragrance. It opens with sweet fruity notes, and others slightly acidic and salty (perhaps aldehydes or marine notes). Later it becomes more woody and aromatic with a very pleasant base of tonka bean, amber and lavender. The aroma is not very original, however it smells very good and is hard not to like. It is a versatile fragrance to be used in any season of the year, and it also lasts a long time on the skin. Van Cleef in New York is a modern aromatic fougere, that is worth for its price, aroma and performance. It can be a great alternative to fragrances like Y EDP or Coach for Men.

Top note is fresh citrus, but it only lasts few minutes, then all I smell is the tamed marine note and not much else, which is too subtle for my taste. Want to like this but it's just too boring. Nice bottle so will keep trying. Update: recently its getting hot 90+ degrees. Like the bottle so I gave it a try again and now I like it. It's a relaxing soft easy scent. It is boring but pleasant. Liking it more and more.

This is a must late spring and all summer scent. 4.2 OZ bottle, $25.00... I only use three sprays, so sillage is at arm's length. Last a little over seven hours. Would i buy this again.....yes. Notes of citrus and sea water...is very strong. Great summer scent, great price, it's getting harder and harder to find thou...E.g Midnight Night In Paris EDP Just a heads up.

Such a wonderful fragrance... but as others have already attested to... It literally becomes a close up skin scent in less than an hour... A pity really as it smells great.

I hope this will surprise me in the end. Midnight in Paris is one of my all time favourites. This seems like Invictus. But i think that it will take that to another level.

@anteater... Could that be olfactory fatigue after spraying yourself a dozen times? Try 2 or 3 times instead and see if that makes a difference to your ability to smell it for longer.

i must have the "intense" version or my body, after being in 31C weather all day, has ramped 'in ny' to semi beast mode. the citrus and marine have pushed the oxygen out of the room, which is an accomplishment considering all the doors and windows are open. i am not sure that there is pleasure for me, but the scent is not bad in a retro way. there is a cinnamony note underneath that keeps the citrus both lively and a bit suffocating. i suspect the whole thing comes off clean scrubbed in a dress-for-success way. did i overspray? or is my body chemistry not the right canvas for this juice? those who have written that it is common, have a concurring opinion here. while this familiarity may appeal to many, it seems in the back of my smell library that this is a type of macho overkill. signaling to something straightforward. maybe i just don't own/smell enough fragrances to put it in perspective on what is in vogue or office friendly. i get synthetic fabric on overly sincere wonks. something that the office runner from mad men wears. could work for under 30, over 30 like a 50 yo living in his parent's basement. cheap and noticeable.

in re-reading my earlier review i did not realize how much i disliked this scent. i don't know much about marine/blue fragrances and probably will stay that way. not that they are bad, just that i do not like them. they remind me of very artificial clean smells. shampoo like. some just-out-of-the-shower experience. a moment of bracing smell that is best quickly left behind. the day moves on. not sure but get a vibe i used to get from british sterling, again something while not horrible, hit me the wrong way. on the other hand, i suspect there are more than a few nice, normal people who would enjoy it. however, i am not one of them. my bottle will find a home somewhere else or join the bathroom air "fresheners."

I blind bought this after the great reviews on here and knowing that I like the fragrance notes listed. What a disappointment! I'm not sure if I got a defective one, but mine has almost zero smell beyond the first minute or two. There's a nice (not great, just nice) citrusy smell for about a minute after spraying, and that's it. Zero longevity. I've literally sprayed myself a dozen times and it made no difference - the scent is instantly gone.

it could even be signature worthy, would it perform. unfortunetely it doesnt, the end. seriously, why would they come up with such a georgeous smell, cool bottle design and marketing, price it quite high and then give it like 3cm projection and an hour (top) longetivity...i will never wrap my head around it. sure, all houses are messing around with tonka beans and sharp scents, but this one is really quite well balanced and stands out with a great hint of very subtle sweetness (mainly the mandarine). it is great, it has the clearn cut businessman feel, but it also has a warmer side to it , to keep it multi dimensional and interesting...still wont give more than 20 bucks for the big bottle (and i dont think you will find it for that price), as even with a very heavy handed spraying, this will just never be a performer. shame, but at the end of the day, a great smell with crap performance is just crap. just like it does not matter how big a number you multiply with zero, its just zero. UPDATE: As I had the big bottle I wanted to get rid of, I put this one on my winter rotation of 7. its more of a spring frag technically, but it worked well as a winter office scenario too. now the winter is over, next week im changing to a new rotation, and based on the last 16 weeks (16 fridays for 125ml, so if you think it needs heavy handed spraying, you are not wrong), the results are SHOCKING. this one became the ultimate compliment champion, by far and to an extreme degree. other frags on the rotation were trussardi black extreme (no compliments), bvlgari man in black (1 really big compliment, and a few mentions), mercedes benz intense (a very well blended fahrenheit clone, 1 compliment and and some lukewarm reactions), givenchy play intense (1 sort of compliment), burberry london (3 compliments) and various others on an on and off basis (compliments here and there).... In NEW YORK by Van Cleef & Arpels, was complimented nearly 10 times out of 16 wears. At one occasion a girl said this scent "just made her day" and another occasion, I kid you not, a guy goes please show me the bottle that you wear, I have to make a photo and buy the same (the least likely guy to say something like this too)... it is insane. I personally loved it too and would make it a part of my solid group of frags that need back-up bottles.... if it wasnt for the below avr performance that is. this way, i wont even re-buy. total shame

~ I have never been to Paris at midnight let alone New York City but if this is what the Big Apple smells like then this country boy needs to visit ASAP! Actually I believe this is rather the perfumers ideal image of what smell the perfect city would evoke. What my hayseed nose detects is rather an opening more of a slightly sweet Mediterranean citrus scent with just a hint of sea air carried by an aquatic breeze. As it dries down my personal favorite part of the tour comes into view with a fresh clean airy lavender and in the distance faint wafts of musk and tonka are detectable. To me I am left with a reminiscence of bottles such as Sauvage, Bleu de Chanel and even more MB Legend Intense. Easy to wear with an understated elegance this is a strong Like for me. In New York will make a very pleasant companion for those long road trips to the big city in the warm months ahead. Kind Regards, Plat ~

I get the BdC comparison, especially in terms of its composition and somewhat "chemical" quality. It does last a long time with good projection, but I do think of it as a "mish mash" scent that seems to be in fashion now. What I find a bit irritating is that amber and tonka are listed as the only base notes, but I can't say I get more than a slight hint of anything that would pass as either, let alone both! On the other hand, if this had been what was put in the Creed Viking bottles, my guess is that we'd be hearing about the "wonderful complexities," "hidden treasures," "subtle facets," etc. I just did a dab sampling so after I do a regular wearing I'll update this review. UPDATE: With a regular wearing, I like it more. The longevity and projection are both excellent, so if you think it's weak then you probably have olfactory fatigue, at least for certain aroma chemicals in it.

Okay, the bottle just screams "I'm another Bleu de Chanel that is not Bleu de Chanel but still want to be Bleu de Chanel". And that's what it is (in my eyes): another player in BdC and Sauvage league. It's not really a clone of BdC (not that close) but it is another - like Number Many Hundred and One - take on the aforementioned concept of BdC that is not BdC. Again, purely in my eyes, this frag was released a few years late. We already have BdC and Sauvage, so... what, another one? Thanks, but no thanks. On the other hand, if you still don't have BdC or Sauvage (really?), this might be a good option 'cause it's cheaper.

The amount of people thinking this is a follow-up fragrance of the famous MiP is too damn high! For God's sake people, this is a stand-alone fragrance. An independent release in its own. It's neither about Paris (duh), nor does it say anything about any midnight. What's so hard to understand? MiP is inspired by a midnight walk in France's capital, this right here is inspired by the greatest city in USA. No resemblance whatsoever. It's just a coincidence that they have released it after discontinuing the MiP. Two individual fragrances. It's that simple.

The overused phrase "It's generic", so why would you buy it if it smells like Bleu de Chanel or Dior Sauvage? WTF, if you like the way it smells and how you feel when you have it on, then buy it! It's not rocket science, Van Cleef & Arpels put out a solid release with this fragrance, I like the notes that this fragrance has, citrus, lemon, marine notes, clary sage, amber, tonka bean, and woods. Simply a fragrance that can be worn daily, you can easily wear it for the office or for casual occasions.

Being a big "Van Cleef & Arpels" fan, I had to try this of course. Immediately Pleasures for men / Estee lauder comes to mind, in an updated formulation. Quit nice, sophisticated, more for a night out than for daywear, but absolutely office safe. Very impressing. Silage and projection are okay, not groundbreaking. Bottle is nice too. Only the name? New York? Well, maybe in early spring after a rain, but besides that New York doesn't come to mind. That having said, it's a solid 8. Try it!

I hate comparing things but I get hints of Invictus, Nautica Voyage, Sauvage and Aventus. Quite a creamy and fruity fragrance, sweet and tart ala Aventus. Has a marine like quality similar to Nautica Voyage, the dry down appears to be ambroxan based. Its quite lovely, nothing ground breaking. I bought a 5ml decant which Ive finished off. Im not sure whether Ill buy a full bottle. Performance was average. Nice fragrance.

This was a blind buy for me. Right off the bat at first spray this reminded me of Mont Blanc Legend Intense, only with a mandarin top note instead of the pineapple/apple like that of the MB offering. Longevity seems quite good, at least average to above average. It's a nice fragrance, but hardly unique. I'm kind of over the whole tonka overload that makes up the base of many men's fragrance offerings these days:/

The top notes monopolize throughout with the Italian Lemon and Mandarin quite brash in the opening...soon settles, giving way to the Marine Notes which mainstay for the rest of the day. Wearing this fragrance evokes pictures of sailing on the Atlantic with the skyscrapers of NYC in view; so oceanic, crisp, and clear. The bottle is awe-inspiring too! It looks and feels minimal, sleek, and elegant.

Thank God there's no PINE in this. Van Cleef buys their pine scent from the Pine-Sol factory in Newark N.J. Either that OR they juice those little cardboard pine trees from the rear view mirrors in parked cars. Oh- did I mention that I hate Pine in fragrances ? I will try this though! I like the fact that they make their frags affordable to all.

It different from other perfumes which have marine/sea notes. It does not smell that note at all even it mentioned here. For me it good alternative for sunny day or hot weather. It also suitable for office use. Really smell citrusy and a bit of herbal type fragrance. Does not get bored at all compare with other fresh fragrances outside.

Metallic musky fruit(purple/green) smell I get similar to polo Ralph clubs def a cousin to Ralph club with good parents cause this 1 is well blended. I smell that purple green metallic musky fruit in the Y line when I sniff it too much. This 1 here is Good I respect it for it’s quality that you can dress up and down but not my flavor.

I am perplexed. New York? Why? The nose of this certainly didnt work with the aim to make this come across like a NYC style scent (like DKNY Be delicious was). Its a crowd pleasing, "nice smell" blend much in the vain of every second release of this day and age. I would say boring and unimaginative.

It's sad that they think this will be a better replacement for midnight in paris. It's such a shame that they discontinued it and then they come out with something like this as if to slap us in the face. The bottle cheap looking and the scent is generic. The exact opposite of midnight in paris.

Can anyone tell me a fragrance that smells like this one but has more sillage and a bit more lasting power. To me it smells gorgeous but it projects for like 30-40 minutes after heavy spraying. It has a decent staying power but why would I need to have something on me that noone could notice.

Not gonna do the breakdown, the top notes last and last wich is a good thing. love this juice, a lovely spring and summer scent Light but lasts a good while for a fresh summer juice

An interesting approach to the hyper-trendy blue/woodsy/shower gel kind of fragrances. This is youthful and fresh, decent performance and garners compliments.

Just sampled it...it smells like nothing...certainly not like Bleu De Chanel. It's basically like you just sprayed some water...what a waste of time

I have seen press photos for "Midnight in New York" by Van Cleef and Arpels.....so WHAT happened to that one??? Google it,,,,you'll see it.

by the notes it might be : an invictus , a blue de chanel , or a sauvage by Dior type of fragance sounds boring

This perfume reminds me of curve by liz claiborne with less pineapple on the opening...

Just tried it and to me it is very similar to Montblanc Legend, fruity-spicy scent.

Smells like a shower gel with a light hint of lemon and orange. It’s very sticky.

The vibe is veey generic perfume similar to Boss Bottle Night
