Un Homme A La Mer

To me it’s a better Neroli Portofino. It’s fresher, more citrusy and aquatic and the flower tones are smoother and more natural. Perfect unisex summer scent!

A less powdery version of CK One to my nose. It starts a bit like a mojito but only for a short time and then develops into what smells very close to CK One, especially in the air. If you bury your nose in the arm and look for differences there might be a few , but the scent bubble and sillage cannot be mistaken for anything else than CK One. A little underwhelming. Good for summer heat and seaside vacations. So far, in 3-4 wears performance is also nothing to write home about.

Velvetvelo satiated a craving I was not aware of having, and that was for an aquatic fragrance. For many years of my perfume hobby, I've been sure it's the only genre I'll never develop a penchant for. The salty-ozonic fragrances, even the ones created by the brands I appreciated, smelled harsh, synthetic and abrasive, with a sea-breeze effect that was tacky and reminiscent of cheap air-fresheners. Well, turns out it is possible to create a mass-appealing aquatic that is not offensive and/or cheap-smelling. Un Homme A La Mer is a breath of fresh air, not because it's going into the seaweedy or driftwood-heavy direction of the more avant-garde sea-inspired frags like Amouage's Beach Hut Woman or Heele's Sel Marin, no. It's different, becauase it's classy and effortlessly chic. It wears like an Acqua di Parma, but is by no means retro. I guess it's the quality of the ingredients and the seamlessness of the blend that reminds me of sth like Colonia Pura, just more masculine. The lime in here, presented agains the background of a cooling, mint-like breeze, is to die for. There'a a sense of space to Un Homme that is immensely attractive. Dunno who's responsible for this ceation, but they did a great job. It's a true pleasure to wear and is surprisingly lasting for an alcohol-free perfume. My new staple for the summer.
