Sur La Plage

I'll start by saying that this beauty has just been bumped up to my Favorites Shelf here on Fragantica and in real life! It is my summer 2022 signature scent ♡ I am one who's blessed that my body chemistry blends beautifully well with Glossier You (GY) perfume. ... On that note, this one has a GY vibe mixed with Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc. Upon initial spray, my husband said it smelled like eraser. Eraser?! I asked as I smelled my wrist. I've only heard that comment from Glossier You. Ahhh, yes, I see it now. Then one of my kids said it smelled like some sort of wood, whilst another one asked if I was sunbathing by the pool. I inhaled and took in the scent again. "Ahhh, Soleil Blanc". Inhaled once more, "Ahhh, Glossier you"! I thought to myself. It has that skin scent of GY and the beachy, sunny , coconuty sunblock lotion from TF's SB but the GY lightens up SB's intensity. Its not fruity. Its GY perfume and SB mixed perfectly. Not one note overpowers another. ☆This is my new summer crush. However, as I enjoyed my new found crush through the day, feeling as if I were on vacation at the Seabird Resort in Oceanside, CA (plz do check out that resort, highly recommended [in particular room # ... nvm that's my room, but it has a gorgeous private balcony]) I felt as if I was cheating on my main squeeze, Dior's Eden-Roc (ED). I've always felt ED was a tad on the masculine side for me. A gorgeous soft masculine, but masculine nonetheless, so I had a bright idea as I drank my imaginary Margarita on the Rocs (<-see what I did there, lol), I thought to myself: "what if I combine this Veronique Gabai Sur La Plage with ED"?! Its just my perfect refreshing cocktail for Spring/Summer of 2022. Please note, that obviously on its own is delicious. It doesn't last as long as SB, I get maybe a 4-6 hour performance on its own. Then SB is more oily, hence, lasts longer. This doesn't have that "oily" note. Its more perfume (GY) so I'm thinking that's why it doesn't last as long. Projection, I'm in a cloud all day. ♡ If you have SB idk that its worth purchasing this one too, as they are pretty similar with slight and subtle differences. Maybe a better purchase would be SB as it lasts longer? Up to you ^__^ Hope this helps ツ

Smells like a Southern California evening in early summer when the air is warm and the orange trees are flowering. Also blooming and scenting the air is jasmine carried on a gentle breeze. You’re a few miles from the sea so you occasionally get a whiff of some salty sea air, but mostly the delicate, yet heady florals dominate. I get about 5 hours weartime. Edited to add: upon first wear, I felt like the pretty white florals overwhelmed all else. But perhaps I oversprayed? I’ve found more nuance on subsequent wearing. During dry down, my brain insists my nose is detecting faint anise notes (which I love.) I checked the Veronique Gabai website and, while there’s no anise, they list pink pepper and cedarwood in addition to the notes listed here. I think the combination of pink pepper and orange blossoms is translating to anise for me. But overall, it remains a very floral, very feminine scent.

I wish I could find my decant of Tom Ford Soleil Blanc to compare these side by side because this is so similar. I like Sur La Plage more and can't place why. Beachy, fruity, unisex. Smells like being away on vacation so I'm wearing it today longing for warm days ahead. Veronique Gabai scents are pleasant but I find them so fleeting that they're not quite worth it. UPDATE: I now have a travel size of both this and Soleil Blanc. Soliel Blanc is much warmer, sweeter, milkier/creamier, lots of cardomom at the start, and has coconut notes which Sur la Plage lacks. Sur La Plage is lighter and more transparent, aquatic, greener or more plant/floral present, fresher. They both have poor longevity but are pretty beach fragrances - one being warm and the other being fresh. I am preferring the slightly milky sweet gourmand-ness of Soleil Blanc more now that I have them both.

This is the perfect summer vacation scent. I think that TF Soleil Blanc is too commercial sunscreen-smelling, but this scent is a perfect complement to an afternoon lounging at the beach. I bought a travel decant to use on my trip to Mexico and it made me happy every day- I couldn't tell where the orange blossom, salt air, and skin scent notes ended and my own began... I mean, in reality I probably would've smelled like a paloma-soaked, sun-bathing hot mess on my own, but this fragrance made the experience dreamy. I live in the mountains and I tried wearing this when I got home and it just wasn't the same. The memories it brought back were good, but I'm going to have to wait for a really hot day at the lake before I try it again. Or I'll just save it for my next beach vacation.

I have 10 (give or take, depending on what you count) samples/decants/minis of beach scents. This one is my favorite. It's got that indolic white flower, balanced out by freshness from the orange blossom and marine notes. It's not too creamy or powdery, just enough. I just love this scent. I only use my "love" ranking when I wouldn't change a single thing, and here it applies. It's so beachy while being well-rounded and not veering off too far into any one territory, yet it has personality—to me the personality is relaxing and optimistic, like all those thoughts you have on vacation about how you're going to change things around when you get back home.
