Gueule de Bois

Sampling Versatile Paris Gueule de Bois, my second try from this house, a mix of amber, pepper, rum, cinnamon, and incense. It’s woody, sweet, smoky, spicy, resinous, and boozy, without overdoing any one aspect, in my opinion, fairly pleasant while being a bit provocative, a palpable winner for cooler weather especially, something I’d certainly wear plenty of. The rum/pepper aspect reminds me a bit of part of Guerlain Gourmand Coquin, and its spiciness reminds me of Atelier Cologne Tobacco Nuit, though this is a bit more easygoing than both while still being dark and interesting. Overall, I’m really pleased with it and want to wear more of it. The entire line is sold with rollerball application at extrait concentration, priced at $55 for 15ml, available via boutiques like Ministry of Scent, from which I bought my discovery set. I’m now 2 for 2 after having tried God Bless Cola, both of which are easily full bottle worthy, and I look forward to trying the rest of the line. 8 out of 10

A rollerball fragrance was a new one on me - my normal habit is to spray a veil of fragrance in the air and walk through, so that was out - but it is very concentrated so some applied to pulse points actually gave a great result that lasted and lasted! The scent itself is absolutely WONDERFUL!! A boozy smokey gourmand-sweet hug in a bottle that just envelops you!! I have to draw the obvious comparison with Jazz Club, there are definite note similarities, but I find this one a touch more rounded and a little softer. It doesn't lean feminine but is a true unisex (Jazz Club def leans masculine). You can order a discovery kit directly from Versatile Paris for 20 euros and currently this one is in it - it is absolutely worth a try!!! You can thank me later 😊

Recently bought the newest Versatile Paris discovery set At first I actually didn't smell anything (which is actually pretty common based on some reviews i've seen) ,after some time i started to smell a lot ,and i mean A LOT of rum and spiciness ,paprika (for some reason?) And pink pepper After that it just smelled very woody togheter with a more toned down of rum and spicy I love this scent and out of all it is my favourite ,maybe maybe it is an equal to God bless cola Overall this is a solid 8/10 ,definetely something i would wear if i wished to impress somebody ,especially a romantic partner

My first impression is the rum, which I simply adore, a little bit of spice, but not too much. As already pointed out, this is warm, cosy and incredibly attractive. Definitely a fall-winter 'around the fireplace'-sort of scent. As with many other Versatile, it's very round around the edges. Here I would definitely say creamy, which balances out the spiciness so nicely. Boozy, creamy, spicy, warm, narcotic. Definitely a favourite from the house! Can't decide if I like this, or 'Croissant café' better. These are both winter-season gems.

Surprisingly delicious fragrance! I was expecting dark, tobacco scent and I get sweet, sensual and spicy. At first, quite masculine aroma makes an impression of gentleman's club (expensive rum, cigar, comfy sofa), but lately the scent become playful and changes. On my skin, it is feminine, rosy puff with smoky touch and warm vibration of amber. I really like it, it is very wearable, chic and optimistic scent! Good projection and nice longevity (7-8hrs).

This is a beautiful scent, opens up with a punchy rum and spice note but after a minutes it’s a slightly spicier version of ELDO’s Dangerous Complicity. A beautiful boozy rum, woody, sweet amber scent. I already own Dangerous Complicity otherwise this would deffo be full bottle worthy. IG/Tiktok: @wilddew_vibes

This is one of my favourites from the line. Warm, rich, boozy, spicy, a slightly honeyed scent. A cold weather staple for me. Truly beautiful!

I fell for Versatile Paris for a shallow reason: the packaging. These 15 ml roll-ons are chic and travel-friendly. The brand has a shared DNA: a creamy, intimate base. I skipped the more “experimental” scents and went with Gueule de Bois. It’s boozy, woody, and unique without being a “risk.” Still is very unique. There's something lived-in bout it: it smells like the morning after an evening out, pleasantly tipsy, with traces of a woody vanilla perfume still lingering on your skin and hint of alcohol still in your system. It's a little medicinal. I tried most of the scents; the others I liked were Dimanche Flemme and It’s a Matcha. I got samples of both (btw, their samples are cute too: tiny, tiny roll-ons). I also kind of liked the chai one, but on my skin it was too smoky. I recommend this brand if you want to smell expensive and definitely unique while staying low-key (since they’re oils, they stay close to the skin).

Gueule de Bois is one of the more ‘normal’ fragrances from the house of Versåtile, and I thank it for that. There’s no weird or unusual gourmand here, just a gorgeous (if not a little synthetic) boozy oriental. Lead by a note of rum, which is surprisingly light and somewhat diluted, a copious amount of cinnamon and pepper provide a warming spicy kick. It then becomes very dry; incense, guaiac wood, tobacco and musks give the scent a pronounced woody facet, whilst still maintaining its warming effect. It’s definitely a nice scent, and one of the better offerings from the house in my opinion. I just wish it smelled a little less clinical, as though it was composed by AI, with unlimited access to aroma-chemicals only.

I thought this would be my least favourite of the bunch, thinking of boozy a la Jorum Studios (which they do well! but is not for me) but this couldn't be more different. I like it, and I am not into boozy or gourmands really. This is going to sound crazy but it smells like a woodier, more masculine/androgynous Delina to me. I realise there are like no notes in common. But it takes out the sickly sweetness of Delina, replaces it with woodiness and a touch of booze. Like the slightest hint. I like Delina for smelling at home but it's totally not my vibe to go out of the house. This is a much more approachable and less in your face option.

This is a solid perfume oil. It's definitely an extremely warm fragrance, lots of booziness and creaminess for sure, but a little too gourmand for me personally as I was expecting a bit more of a woody and spicy notes. I also get a root vegetable scent (?) on my skin that cuts through all the warmth, which isn't necessarily horrible, but it's just a little weird for me. I'm not sure where it's coming from, but it smells like gobo (burdock root)? I have a feeling that it could be the licorice, but somehow a lot earthier. Besides that, I think it's a nice warm gourmand.

I tested it on paper and on my skin as well.. This is a tricky one, firstly I couldn't smell anything.. after about 5 mins I started to smell rum, a bit smoke, vanilla, tobacco and spices (mainly cinnamon).. It was very pleasant, however it reminds me of Divine Vanille from Essential Parfums w/o the dried fruits note. The lasting power was pretty good, but the sillage was almost zero.. maybe I need to apply a lot. From this point of view, considering the 15 ml bottle, I don't think I will buy it later on.

It really is one of the better run fragrances that I have smelled. Addictingly dark and sweet but loses the pissy patchouli notes that other rum fragrances have. I can smell the sugary and fruity rose oxides / damascones and they are balanced well with the darker notes. Put together well all around. Reminds me of a Bois 1920 fragrance that I dislike, but I kinda like this one. Because of personal preference I do wish it was a sprayer instead of a roller. 7.8/10

My one line review: like having an old fashioned cocktail in a quiet candlelit bar with soft jazz music playing in the background.

The oud, resin, and licorice here is stronger than expected! the combo makes it not perfect imo, BUT, it's warm, slightly spiced, 'just-woke-up' scent. It's kinda the perfect hangover smell in the sense that it's a little weird and musty and skinlike. It's not a wear-around personally, but it is so impressively well done. Note; for me, the cinnamon and rum here doesn't really come through on my skin, but the vanilla does sweeten it in a very nice way.

Intense opening accords of sweet rum, quickly giving way to incense that lingers close to the skin.

guele de bois has too much going on for its own good. admittedly, i'm not a fan of boozy perfumes, and this one — as someone else has cleverly pointed out — is a morning-after-hangover kind of smell. the booze is very strong. it also smells quite clinical the more it sits on the skin, acquiring more of an apothecary distillation sort of vibe. interesting to smell as it develops, but i would neither wear it nor happily sit next to someone who does.

I was too suprised by the rose note that someone mentioned, I really smell it too, and I like it! I find this more feminine than masculine

Versatile Paris Discovery Kit 7/7 Geule de Bois | I will commend whoever’s naming their products. Though literally a “mouth of wood”, it means hangover — the perfect tie-in for the rum and woody notes. I’m surprised no one mentioned the rose notes. They jumped out at me first, to the extent that I thought I pulled the wrong sample. I think the sweetness comes from the rum, and in time, the vanilla and incense peek through. There’s a slight funkiness I can’t quite place, and I wonder if it’s the guaiac wood. Croissant Cafe has more clout from VP, but I think this delivers a gentle, sweet creaminess better than CC can. I’d say it’s one of the better ones from VP along with Accrodisiaque and Sea, Sud, and Sun.
