Sunshine

It's supposedly a dupe for Lancome's Idole. Well, j have a couple thoughts on that.... I wasn't impressed with Idole when it came out and I still am not. When I tried this one at a drugstore, on a hot summer day, i fell in love. It was a fresh, clean floral that made me feel cool and refreshed after running about in the heat. It seemed so familiar however, but at the same time i couldn't put my finger on it. It was driving me crazy. A few months later i happened to find out it's supposed to be an Idole dupe, and while it does make sense, i want to denounce this with all my might. Yes, one can see common pointa of reference and you'd expect dupes to behave differently, if not downright not living up to the original, but truth be told, Sunshine seems much more like a perfume than Idole. Idole, to this day, even though I own it, seems more like overpriced laundry water to me. Perhaps I would be more forgiving if not for its price range. Sunshine on the other hand smells to me much more composed and well rounded. Fresh, clean, but not so much laundry runoff. Intensity and projection is quite good during the first half to one hour. It has short life span on the skin but it's cheap and "off brand" so it's expected and forgiven. It does take a while to dry on the skin however, and if your skin is severely dry, i suggest to avoid spraying on it. This goes without saying, but i found that spraying on my wrists last winter during a period where my skin was as dry as a mummy's, due to a combination of overwashing my hands and bad weather, it would not dry nor absorb, but left behind an oily residue that wiped off everywhere and no scent remained behind, so i was just wasting product. Stick to spraying on healthy, hydrated skin.

The notes listed here are wrong - Verset say Bergamot, Rose, Vanilla. I've recently purchased a 50ml bottle of Sunshine and out of these, I can only detect vanilla - an undertone that is apparent straight away. It's a pretty 'modern' perfume, a bit of a departure for me but I kind of liked it on my hand in the chemists'. Now, not so sure, seems quite generic. It's day, not night, has a light musk at the end of the drydown. The opening and heart remind me somewhat of Marc Jacobs' Daisy but I'm sure officianados of modern perfumes would probably disagree. Sunshine is supposedly a copy of Lancome's Idole ..... EDIT, Feb '22 - just to add, I like this perfume very much now, and wear it a lot. Bit of a departure from my usual tastes, but it seems quite multi-faceted, smells slightly different at different times and in different situations. A 'light' white? musk element is very apparent - I like that. It's nice to catch a whiff of and leaves a nice trace on fabric. I would say, though, having worn Idole recently, that there's a ylang/vanilla accord (I know ylang isn't mentioned for Idole but that's what it smells like to me) that Sunshine is missing. Still, both nice perfumes - for me, Sunshine is a better all rounder and has more of a brightness to it, while the trace that Idole leaves on your clothes (that above mentioned accord/undertone) - sublime!
