Venus De L'Amour

A stunning, beautiful floral marvel from the past. Very intoxicating, a little too heavy for me though. I have a bottle available for swap/sale if anyone is interested in this as it is hard to find and will just sit with my collection not being used, feel free to message me if interested.

This is beautiful. Very soft and feminine, a little powdery. Flowery but not too intense, somewhat soapy and oh so pleasant. As other reviewers have said, it feels vintagy but not old. I would feel comfortable gifting it to a young girl.

I find myself craving this! Im in that in between spot in weather, where its not cool enough for my cooler weather performers nor warm enough for my warmer weather performers... But Venus Delamour is magical at this time! Its so soft, sensual, and subtly sweet. It seems to fade but then i smell something very intoxicating and I've noticed that its this perfume! This is a stunner! Another great secret that many would toss upon first sniff.... My oh my... These sleepers are so much better than modern day fragrances being made. Modern day smella great upon first spray but rarely develop and dont usually smell very good after some time, if they're even noticeable anymore at all.

In the bottle--holy aldehydes batman! But once on the skin, this fragrance immediately softens into something romantic, warm, and soft. I can immediately pick up on the patchouli, musk, and heliotrope. As it dries down, you get some citrus-bitterness from the orange, the aromatic basil and clove, but also something a little sweet and powdery, like those old violet candies. It feels 'mature' but not in the way we might normally apply that word to perfume...more like a sophisticated older woman.

yeah, as others have mentioned, the opening on this is a bit much-kind of bitter and weird, though you can tell there is a soft beauty underneath. after it dissipates, which is maybe within 5-10 minutes, it smells a lot like oscar de la renta. however, i find this one to be a little sweeter, with the nutmeg. i like this one, it's soft and very pretty.

Beautiful floriental offering, sweet from peach, spiciness of cloves and nutmeg followed by iris and ylang, its very deep, unusual and tends more to the modern niche style, rather than vintagy vintage. Drydown is incense and vanilla with tonka - smoky sweet. Instantly likeable fragrance.

This has to have the one of the worst openings of any fragrance I've ever used. It absolutely reminds me of a solvent, like benzene or turpentine. I don't know if it's because it is a vintage and the top notes are shot or if the aldehydes just really smell that bad. Whatever the case, it is really off-putting and turns me off to the rest of the fragrance. As for the scent itself, while it smells nice I can't really go into detail on the notes because the aldehydes were so off-putting that it was hard to focus on anything else. Amazing since I generally like aldehydic scents, old-fashioned though some may be. I'm really not sure about this one. Update- okay, I tried this again. But I made sure to keep moving and not sniff my wrist until the top notes dissipated. Once they did (and believe me they do) it becomes a beautiful, soft, floral oriental. This isn't a big 80s powerhouse. It's much softer than that. While not a love for me, it is a very strong like. I think that might change the more I wear it. It certainly has potential.

Argh, no, sorry... there's some snazzy ylang and nice work with the resins, but it's the aldehydes which just do me in. Can't get over them - just too industrial and retro-choking for me. That sort of soapy-fizzy-solventy top that makes my nose itch, not in a good way, maybe even provoking a sneeze. A shame given that rather delicious-looking pyramid and I can see how it would appeal for those with a taste for vintage. But for me it falls into the same ever-hostile quadrant as most Chanels and Arpege Lanvin - great for some, but the initial laboratory/bug spray associations are just too bad for me. Sorry Ms Tiel but this is one floral bouquet I'll be throwing back.

Unfortunately I can't stomach the opening. The aldehydes smell like paint thinner. If you can tolerate it, the drydown presents a powdery, soft spicy amber floral. It's pretty, but nothing groundbreaking. I bought this perfume for the bottle, so I'm not upset, but consider yourself warned.

This was the first perfume I remember wearing when I was starting to take perfume "seriously", that is when I no longer saw perfume or "fragrance mists" as an accessory to my clothes or a part of an after shower ritual. This perfume is a lesson in how to make a great perfume. Each note goes well together and the result is intoxicating. Like the name suggests this is Venus the Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, and we offer her flowers, incense, honey, fruits and prayers to her. Usually you had to go to her when you wanted someone to fall in love with you. I wore this as a 17 year old girl in hopes to attract a guy I really liked. And it worked! Venus opens with a sweet fruit bowl of scents: mandarin orange, bergamot and peach. I would even include an orange blossom or neroli, but it could be mimosa which is actually listed here. There are aldehydes so the opening is a bit familiar if you like scents like Van Cleef & Arpels First. The heart is floral with violet, ylang, mimosa, jasmine, iris heliotrope and lily of the valley. The flowers are heady and fragrant like actually surrounding yourself with too many flowers. Because it is an Eau de Parfum the flowers are really standing out. At times it reminds mem of Quelques Fleurs so if you like super floral scents this is a treasure. It doesn't really get too strong if you know how to apply it and it's best to just spray it about twice in pulse points like the sides of my neck or on my collar bone. The aroma it releases is unmistakably feminine. It's spicy with cloves and patchouli leaves. There's also a warm incense note in the form of myrrh. It's smoky but not like Opium smoke. Just a warm myrrh. There is a rich benzoin and something which briefly appears that I felt reminded me of honey. It's Oriental in nature, flowery, balsamic, sweet and seductive. I still keep a bottle or two around. The price is cheap but the fragrance is not. Smells like one of the most beautiful perfumes they could ever make.
