Sage Spell

I have adored this perfume since it's release. It has a certain nostalgic quality, reminding me of hard hitting, fougere colognes I wore in the 90's, but this is more modern and botanical. The opening is bracing, invigorating, and agrestic. The seedy, bitter aspects of grapefruit pair perfectly with sage. The sage here smells like a bundle of freshly picked sage leaves, with a few lavender twigs intertwined. There are no smokey/ hippy sage notes to be found here. The peppermint elevates the sage note, keeping it fresh and slightly mentholated until the dry down. Pink pepper also plays an important role, keeping everything zingy and fizzy, like a pine needle soda. The wormwood note is the chef's kiss, adding a cool anise note, akin to fennel seeds. Patchouli is definitely present in the dry down. This is a clean patchouli, quite green and leafy, akin to rubbing fresh patchouli leaves between your fingers. It is not at all similar to the patchouli essential oil worn by ex-hippies, which can have soil like, unwashed aspect. I consider this gem to be masculine leaning, but could also be worn by any confident person. The reason I say "confident" is because this fragrance projects it's herbal, agrestic qualities for hours after application. It lasts all day, and doesn't go into skin scent territory until 8+ hours after application. Yes, people will notice you, and most likely offer compliments. The first day I tried this, a coworker instantly exclaimed "You make like sage, I love it!". This, for me, was a testament to how accurately this perfume captures this note. It's a shame this fragrance has been discontinued. It is the most genuine, evocative expression of fresh sage I have ever experienced in perfume. Luckily, I have about 1/8 amount of juice in my bottle, I break it out when I need a touch of perfection. Bravo!

I love this scent, so subtle, sparkling herbal, very nice and highly recommend it. Lasts a long time on my skin.

the opening reminds me a lot of a lemon-lime candy. it's a really fresh, head-clearing scent, but later there comes in a warmer, more grounding kick that i found is typical of the magic collection and makes me mourn the fact that it's getting discontinued! the scent leans a bit masculine but i am a young, somewhat girly female and i think it works just fine for someone like me. there's a bit of soapiness here, but in a way that works (i normally hate soapy scents). i love the duality of this scent between something very clean, fresh, and airy and something more grounding, dark, and mysterious (kind of a poison vibe from the absinthe). it is definitely very, very green, but green like a mysterious bottle in a haunted bar more than a forest.

From the start I get a bright fresh, green lemonade vibe. Very pleasant, very invigorating and very easy to wear. The sage comes through very subtle in my opinion, by flowing underneath the brighter notes. It does turn into a more cologne style of scent in the dry down, not the most unique of Fragrances but still lovely for an easy reach summer day. It reminds me of the Aqua Universalis by Maison Francis kurkdjian.

This pulled more masculine on my skin than I initially expected. I barely noticed the grapefruit and pink pepper notes at the beginning; the sage, patchouli, and artemsia pretty much took over. This scent profile would work perfectly for an aftershave or a shower gel, but it’s not quite what I’m looking for. It doesn’t last very long, either- basically fades out after about four hours.
