Sage Spell

I have adored this perfume since it's release. It has a certain nostalgic quality, reminding me of hard hitting, fougere colognes I wore in the 90's, but this is more modern and botanical. The opening is bracing, invigorating, and agrestic. The seedy, bitter aspects of grapefruit pair perfectly with sage. The sage here smells like a bundle of freshly picked sage leaves, with a few lavender twigs intertwined. There are no smokey/ hippy sage notes to be found here. The peppermint elevates the sage note, keeping it fresh and slightly mentholated until the dry down. Pink pepper also plays an important role, keeping everything zingy and fizzy, like a pine needle soda. The wormwood note is the chef's kiss, adding a cool anise note, akin to fennel seeds. Patchouli is definitely present in the dry down. This is a clean patchouli, quite green and leafy, akin to rubbing fresh patchouli leaves between your fingers. It is not at all similar to the patchouli essential oil worn by ex-hippies, which can have soil like, unwashed aspect. I consider this gem to be masculine leaning, but could also be worn by any confident person. The reason I say "confident" is because this fragrance projects it's herbal, agrestic qualities for hours after application. It lasts all day, and doesn't go into skin scent territory until 8+ hours after application. Yes, people will notice you, and most likely offer compliments. The first day I tried this, a coworker instantly exclaimed "You make like sage, I love it!". This, for me, was a testament to how accurately this perfume captures this note. It's a shame this fragrance has been discontinued. It is the most genuine, evocative expression of fresh sage I have ever experienced in perfume. Luckily, I have about 1/8 amount of juice in my bottle, I break it out when I need a touch of perfection. Bravo!

I love this scent, so subtle, sparkling herbal, very nice and highly recommend it. Lasts a long time on my skin.

the opening reminds me a lot of a lemon-lime candy. it's a really fresh, head-clearing scent, but later there comes in a warmer, more grounding kick that i found is typical of the magic collection and makes me mourn the fact that it's getting discontinued! the scent leans a bit masculine but i am a young, somewhat girly female and i think it works just fine for someone like me. there's a bit of soapiness here, but in a way that works (i normally hate soapy scents). i love the duality of this scent between something very clean, fresh, and airy and something more grounding, dark, and mysterious (kind of a poison vibe from the absinthe). it is definitely very, very green, but green like a mysterious bottle in a haunted bar more than a forest.

From the start I get a bright fresh, green lemonade vibe. Very pleasant, very invigorating and very easy to wear. The sage comes through very subtle in my opinion, by flowing underneath the brighter notes. It does turn into a more cologne style of scent in the dry down, not the most unique of Fragrances but still lovely for an easy reach summer day. It reminds me of the Aqua Universalis by Maison Francis kurkdjian.

This pulled more masculine on my skin than I initially expected. I barely noticed the grapefruit and pink pepper notes at the beginning; the sage, patchouli, and artemsia pretty much took over. This scent profile would work perfectly for an aftershave or a shower gel, but it’s not quite what I’m looking for. It doesn’t last very long, either- basically fades out after about four hours.

Personally, not my cup of tea because I prefer more feminine scents. But it certainly doesn't deserve the hate. I would even wear it on a hot summer day because it is refreshing. As it is, I plan on giving my sample to my husband. I think it will smell very bracing and clean on a man, and though too masculine for me, plenty of women could enjoy this as well.

Love the opening with the spicy pepper-citrus-mint-sage combo! But the pepper, citrus, and mint fade right away. This is definitely on the masculine side of unisex. I would love to smell this on a man!! I will probably give the sample to my husband - too masculine for me to wear.

I'm completely blown away by those saying this is masculine. Think this is very unisex. It smells like a refreshing, slightly sweet creamy cucumbers. I actually really LOVE this one, its fresh, but somewhat complex.

Fizzy fresh drink with a bit of spiciness and some aquatic undertones. It also had lots of citrus in it (more like juice lime) with a touch of mint. It’s a nice summer fragrance, but a bit imbalanced for my nose. I’d also say it slightly leans towards masculine scents. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

I don't know about the listed notes on this one. I get a bubble gum amber, sour citrus and wood. There's something fresh about it as well. Maybe the mint? As others have said it has an aquatic undertone. Synthetic, clean, generic man cologne. I've smelled many like this before. Maybe I have a difficult time picking out what sage smells like? Unisex leaning masculine for all ages year around. Performance was nice and lasted around six hours before becoming soft. Your coworkers and special someone will probably like this freshie. There's something sharp and synthetic about this that gives me a headache. Not cheap but it performs decently. Big yawn!

This is not that dissimilar to the sleuth of "aquatic" fougeres that has been plaguing the market since the 90s. Screechy top notes of metallic citrus, sweet lemony something— must be where the Sprite comparison comes from—and a smidge of artemisia, if you squint. Meh. So glad I was able to pick up a minisize spray before committing myself to a discount full bottle.

It is herbal, spicy, soft, and fresh. But there is a really unpleasant artificial sharpness that I just can't stand. It makes it smell cheap to me. As it dried down it lost its softness and now it just smells like an old Polo cologne. It's not overly masculine, but it just reminds me of those generic "manly" axe body spray scents from back in the day.

Has fresh/aquatic undertones. Starts off very powdery during the first hour. It doesn't get better from there, as after the the powder fades away, a sour/indolic scent takes over. After smelling that, I definitely can't recommend this scent.

Oof, the opening is rough. Quite masculine, but I would not enjoy this on my husband. I agree with the review below that this smells like Sprite, especially in the drydown, infused with herbs.

95% Masculine. I would not call it unisex. Herbal with aquatic notes. Nice, nothing special. Something it is give me light headache/nausea. I'll pass.

Honestly a massive let down. It smells like sticky dried sprite they has been left in the sun. Doesn’t last long at all. I was not a fan

Sage + mint reads as menthol on my skin. Fades substantially in 15 minutes. Gone in an hour.

First off, the name and scent have me craving sage tea. Next order of business, THIS IS BASICALLY A RE-RELEASE OF ANTIDOTE!!! I seriously think Viktor & Rolf assumed we all forgot about Antidote (I didn't), trimmed down some of the notes, and tried to release this as a brand new fragrance but you can't fool me. This is tagged as unisex but it leans more on the masculine side - as others have said below. Aside from me talking smack about V&R being lazy lol, this really is a beautiful warm, woodsy, herbal melody with excellent projection and decent longevity. It's very versatile and can work for any time, any season depending on the look you want and moose you're in. Give this a try if you loved Antidote, Armani Attitude, or Gucci Pour Homme. FYI: V&R Sage Spell = V&R Antidote -- you can look up the notes of Antidote if you don't believe me.

This one leans toward masculine, it has a definite herbal/ aromatic vibe, in a fresh way, I don't think I could wear it, but on a man, this would be perfect, The absinthe brings a bit of a greenish sweetness to the scent..it is well done...now the heart is strong in sage, so if you don't like sage in a perfume, it won't do...overall impressed with it, nice creation, totally unisex so not my cup of tea. Yet in the category of aromatic scents , this is a real nice one It has also a soapy undertone, maybe the warmwood ..not sure ..would be a nice fresh distinctive male cologne .

A vigorous, aggressive, hardwearing scent with an evergreen drydown. Only a minimum of the warmth that I associate with sage. After seven to eight hours, it got close to the skin with notes of salt and sweat and 'laundry-fresh' starch spray, as on a man's collar at the end of the day. It's not for me, but I would definitely recommend it to a man who wants to be noticed.

This is a little too pungent, bitter, and manly for my liking...I'm passing this on to my Hubby!! Someone mentioned Irish Spring soap. I do smell a similarity to that soap! I grow sage in my herb garden and use it all year long. This doesn't smell like real sage. I do detect some other herbal smell and a bit of mint. The absinthe note is dominant in this fragrance.

This is a similar patchouli note to the one you’d find in Coco Mademoiselle or Angel...smooth, minty, not particularly earthy. Instead of pairing patchouli with red berries and chocolate, Sage Spell blends the note with aromatic sage, mint and wormwood. It’s on the masculine side of unisex, but it’s got a touch of sweetness to it so it’s not TOO butch.

It has a refreshing, somewhat sweet creamy cucumber scent that is totally unisex. I honestly really like this one; it's new but also rather complicated. I adore this smell; it's delicate, sparkly, and herbal; I strongly suggest it. It stays on my skin for a long time. Must-try!

I found some of these perfumes in the new collection to smell very feminine which I love but this is very masculine! I would never wear it as a woman but I think it would be nice on a man. It is quite powerful.

I smell grapefruit, pepper, and bitter herbs. A touch of something aquatic too. I didn't like it, but passed the sample on to my husband and he likes it. It's just too sharp and bitter for my preference.

You have to try this collection for yourself... it's very different and goes in a different direction to most niche scents. You won't be disapppointrd

Yuck! It smells like crushed weeds in a garden. If you want to smell like a sweaty gardener, this is for you.

I just smell sage.....that's it.
