L'Eau des Immortels

Quiet old school someone said that this is smell of grandma's wardrobe but i just don't care and quiet enjoy this perfume. full with patchouli with chocolate hint. quiet ambery and really dry by immortelle. opening like Sables but turn into something different after 5 minutes.

This has a funky opening that evolves into a really nice resinous patchouli. I don’t see it listed but I am getting a strong patchouli vibe from this as well as raisins verging on sherry, not cooking sherry but a serious Pedro Ximénez. I have smelled this in my drinking glass many, many times. Full bottle worthy for sure. Five hours in. This is nice and soft. There is a powdery aspect to it. I think this is more suited for women but that doesn’t stop me from wearing it. The last gasps are a lovely vanilla pancake syrup accord.

Every time I wear this it is slightly different. Today no funk in the opening but boy is the orange front and center. Orange, amber, patchouli, Pedro Xmineze sherry, raisins, coffee, vanilla. Really nice. After six hours it becomes a skin scent.

Sweet, warm immortelle-amber perfume, very cozy for cold days. I like my immortelle a bit more on the summery, aromatic side, however

Phew! This perfume is hard to take. Astringent bitter opening. I can’t even. Maybe helpful if you had a cold to open up sinuses. Giving me a headache. Edit- After 20 minutes top notes dry down a bit and it’s more tolerable. Hubby walked in and I warned him I was wearing a perfume. He said “Oh I can tell.” He added that it doesn’t smell bad but that it’s completely overwhelming. Definitely different. After one hour the scent softens with a straw-like sweet scent like chamomile tea. The dry down is pure ashtray. I’d recommend giving this perfume some time to mellow so not to offend others.

The opening of L’Eau des Immortels is like sticking your nose deep into a freshly cut hay bale that just sat through rain storms for a couple days. This immortelle is not sweet and dry, it’s wet and it’s dense and it’s still green and very vegetative. There’s the tiniest hint of mold and earth in there as well. It borders on being pungent but doesn’t quite cross that line. As the fragrance begins to dry down on the skin it dries in character as well and becomes more like the sweet dry hay that I associate with immortelle. It loses some of the almost moldy ripeness from the beginning, although it’s still a bit greener and fruitier than some other immortelle fragrances, and I don’t perceive the coumarin/tonka as much as I expected. Rather there’s an earthier almost alcoholic kind of underpinning coming from the amyris and labdanum I suspect. This is a hay bale with lots of still green herbal matter in it as well as some dirt and some rotting stuff. I enjoyed this fragrance as an exercise in the different ways something like immortelle can be used in perfumes. It smells natural to me and is very representative of the smells of late Autumn. I prefer the dryer, airier and sweeter usage of immortelle in perfumes like Afternoon of the Faun, which are more representative of late summer, but that’s not to say this isn’t really lovely in its own way. It’s a deeper, more resiny or even boozy kind of immortelle. It lasts about 15 hours on the skin and has arms length sillage.

L'Eau des Immortels Voyages Imaginaires I have chance to sniff the bottle from one of my friend. (He wrote a comment about this a few reviews below) It's almost like Isabelle Doyen decide to do "Aboslute de Sables". This one really resonate with me how Immortelle can highly effect the formular. Can be star of the show. This is Thick Vanilla-Benzonin that really highlight the power of Immortelle. And it feels thick really long time, those kind of Goovy Sweet Amber but in Gorgeous fine french perfumery. Really full. It is very elegant and gala, it reassembles Sables. But Sables goes thin and kind of classic men woody-oreintal fragrance. This one walks in kind of Classic Amber structure instead. Beautiful..

Not a lot of notes here, but the base is deep and long-lasting. This is easily a great non-creamy vanilla extract and licorice chocolate liquor on a dark sweet ambery background, with light smoke from resins. The honeyed and herbaceous feels are strong and a bit tobacco-like at the same time. And I knew that immortelle can sometimes give a bit of a winey feel from Le Mat by Mendittorosa. I can see this would be quite satisfying for who loves natural black chocolate, vanilla and dark amber. Very cozy at night.

I was very excited to hear that Isabelle Doyen was doing another immortelle. A warm, grand, benzoin-immortelle amber. It reminds me of my 2013 Sables but with a different top-mid section. The opening of my Sables smells like harsh cognac and astringent cinnamon. L'Eau des Immortels is more tender and resinous, somewhat reminding me of a Lutens. Perhaps Arabie or L'innommable, where the opening is strong with fenugreek, cinnamon and dried citrus peel.

It is interesting, but it is a variation on the current iteration of Sables (not the original formula) with a well executed chocolate note. The ambery component is very prominent and suffocates the immortelle. I stack with my old bottle of Sables. follow me on IG @alexolympia6

it smells very tasty, the warm amber and spicy tones with just enough sweetness are projecting nicely what's unfortunate is that this smell like some fancy version of the juice i used to vape before i stopped smoking
