And The World Is Yours

Sweet orange blossom face punch. I agree with the review below me that it’s giving me L’interdit. But L’interdit turned up to 11. L’interdit written in neon colors which I have to admit I’m into. But, LI mostly is a grape like syrupy orange flower while this has that but also a more interesting backbone of powdery almond heliotrope, sandalwood, tonka, and a pinch of skanky cumin. Normally, I despise cumin in a fragrance but I actually don’t mind it in this which is shocking to me. I’m picturing a really fun, loud, girl wearing neon yellow and pink just coming home after being out all night dancing (the barely perceptible cumin) at an 80s themed club. Thinking Sarah Jessica Parker type in Girls Just Want To Have Fun. I haven’t tried Sintra yet but I’m definitely going to. This one is better that Parle Moi which was literally just orange blossom and sugar and a bit flat. Oriana didn’t wow me either but to each their own. I think PDM is a bit overrated in some ways but perhaps I haven’t worn them enough. This orange blossom sweet juice is lively, playful, but still sophisticated an 80’s Gurl in neon and big hair or a 70’s starlet in satin and a fur coat that’s calling all her fancy friends to a wild party that last two days and drinks champagne in the pool. This is really fun and girly and is definitely going into the “want it” pile. There is something special about this house. There fragrances just speak to me and quite frankly they’re the most complimented fragrances I own. They just do something amazing on my skin and never fail to project. I can be wearing some fancy Tom Ford or Maison Kirkdijan no one says a thing. I wear one of these and people stop me on the street.

The first time I tried this perfume was on a hot and humid summer's day and after applying it the scent of huge, juicy white florals surrounding me was this close to being overwhelming. So lush, so gorgeous, so thick, so...billowy. It was rich and lovely and I could smell it several hours later, even after a shower. Fast forward a couple of months into a fall cold snap, and I'm looking for the perfect perfume to wear before heading out to a busy day. I grab And the World is Yours and spray it, expecting the florals again, but get honey! Thick, syrupy, honey with warm spice like...cinnamon? In the car I'm surrounded by this lush, gorgeous, perfect honeyed scent. It is so similar to a dessert we've had at a local Ethiopian restaurant, of warm fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar, dusted with cinnamon and then drenched with honey. It sounds unappealingly sweet but it isn't, it's a perfect end to the meal. The dough is crisp and light, the honey is thin (from the warmth I guess) and the powdered sugar and cinnamon mix together beautifully. In the perfume, I can smell the flowers - but in the background now - taking a backseat to the honey show. Breathtaking. What a marvelous perfume.

I wish this scent was a big release that came in large bottles. I loved it so much I used up my vile way to fast and realized this fragrance wasn’t economical. It is a very complex smell, like a more elegant and graceful version of Lagerfield classic. The package of the skyline of the city at night certainly fits the mood of this fragrance. It smells like the big city at 3:00 am when things start to slow down, lights turn off, bars close and people go home. Certainly unisex but leans more feminine. The blast of orange gives it a sort of antique smell, maybe like the cleaning fluid used to polish wood, but not harsh or astringent whatsoever. The vanilla and tonka gives it a creamyness like a sugar free orange creamsicle. It is a very seductive scent. And it clings to your clothes like crazy. I work a pretty sweaty greasy job and when I got him I could still smell it on my clothes. It’s a womderfull fragrance that I wish they would offer up in a larger size. Works best as a nighttime scent and has a lounge vibe.

I'm not sure I've tried anything by A Lab on Fire but the name Dominique Ropion is one I'm familiar with, and with this release And The World Is Yours for Luckyscent's 15th anniversary series, I was inclined to nab one of 10ml bottles released as part of this limited collection. ATWIY is an interesting intersection of subgenres: fresh via neroli and orange blossom, sweet via vanilla and tonka and tolu balsam, woody with sandalwood, and perhaps most of all, floral with heliotrope and, to a lesser degree rose. I don't detect the cumin at all, frankly, unless its use is so subtle that my nose is not up to the task. It's a strong performer at a reasonable price and I could see myself reaching for it year-round, the neroli and orange blossom more ideal for warmer weather but the vanilla and tolu balsm more ideal for cooler weather. Usually, so much heliotrope might not be as enjoyable for me, but ATWIY is well-blended to the point that the composition simply plays well on my skin. 8 out of 10

I dabbed this on in the fall before getting into an Uber and literally thought my rating would go down from how strong this scent is. Revisiting it months later, And The World Is Yours REALLY grew on me. I'm a honeysuckle sucker, and the combination with the florals and tonka/vanilla duo is simply *chefs kiss* And do I detect a slight cherry note? Feels really opulent - the type of scent I would mist on while getting ready in my silk robe at my vanity (my life would be perfect if I had room for a vanity). Still evaluating, but I'm really enjoying my sample!! EDIT: Can't stop thinking about this... I either need another sample or need to buy the full bottle (why are there no decants or smaller sizes!). I can see myself loving this on a summer night out as much as I've been loving it this winter. What a beautiful scent - Ropion is a genius
