Freckled and Beautiful

I blind bought this because of FOMO, it’s been out of stock for about a year and a half. One of my fave fragrances used to be Messy Sexy Just Rolled Out of Bed by the same brand, but over the years I grew tired of its overt sweetness, and wanted to try this one hoping for similar DNA without the toothache. On first spray, I thought this was so weird. I was disappointed. But after about 24 hours of testing, I was completely obsessed. It’s so addictive. I don’t even know how to describe it. There’s definitely the strong honeysuckle, the neroli, the biscuits. It’s clean, a little sweet, and floral all at once without leaning too much into any of those to be definable. It does not lean juvenile or mature either. This fragrance dances in the liminal space. The nostalgic effect is understood. I love when fragrances make me feel something, and this reminds me of new love, or a yearning achieved. The top, the mid, and the dry down are each a little different, and each phase smells wonderful. The initial spray gets the sharp neroli and something very green, after a few minutes that softens and the gourmand notes announce themselves, and the drydown gets more blurry and milky as the hours pass to combine it all. Something about this scent makes me happy and it’s immediately gone up to my list of favorites. I ordered a backup bottle, something I rarely do, in case they go out of stock for a long time again. Edit: There is a slight sunscreen facet in here too that I did not mention. Summer in a bottle for sure.

childhood: Summer morning. Sunlight streaming through the kitchen window. You’re seated at the breakfast table, munching down Frosted Flakes. Your mother? Grandmother? comes into the room and starts slathering you in a low-key amazing smelling old school sunscreen, as everyone is almost out the door to head to the beach? The neighborhood pool? This person is also wearing a hint of a sharp white floral perfume. I see why Freckled &Beautiful can be polarizing, but that creamy, sunscreeny-Nivea like accord has me in a goddam chokehold. I don’t even mind the “biscuit” note (and I’m trepidatious with the funky, weird notes you find in the more daring, indie perfumes) (i’m not daring at all). *I’m editing to add: I’ve been through many decants of this and now i have a full bottle from wwdis and i want to say, it’s a shame the bottle is opaque. i like the white and pink styling of the bottle; definitely matches the childlike vibe of the perfume, but the juice is the prettiest color. it’s a sheer, lilac-y pink. i think it’s really special and sweet and innocent and compliments the scent perfectly. but you can’t experience the color with the bottle the way it is. edit 2: i am labeling this as a PM scent, not as a dress-to-impress “date night” fragrance, but rather one that i like to spray on my collar and a little on my wrist late in the day because i find it very comforting. a wind-down, comfort scent if you will.

I've been dying to test this for years and now finally got my hands on a sample. I'm wearing it for the first time today, and while I do love it, I don't think it's fbw. It's honeysuckle, milk and cookies to me, which is beautiful and there's really nothing else like it. I love the slightly plasticky, girly, doll head quality of heliotrope too. Anyone who thinks this is too heavy on the white florals should try wearing it for one or two hours, because after an hour the florals are totally mellowed out and beautifully balanced with the sweet milkiness. It really exudes innocence and beauty, I love the look of the bottle, and the name really hits the nail on the head. The problem for me, is that the sillage is weak and I feel like I could achieve something similar or maybe even better by simply layering a honeysuckle or jasmine with Chabaud Lait de Vanille or a similar vanilla lactonic fragrance. And I'd rather do that, because then maybe I would have better projection and it would be more versatile than spending $200 on a 50ml bottle of this. Maybe if I found this for a good price I would buy it, but that is never, ever, ever going to happen.

When I was thirteen, I bought a tiny terracotta pot that smelled like honeysuckle, along with a deck of angel oracle cards, from a funky little New Age bookstore. I spent my allowance on them, and they felt absolutely precious to me, in the way things only can when you are a preteen. Whenever I wanted to escape, I would pop the cork and take a sniff, imagining somewhere far away. I kept that little pot long into adulthood, even as the scent slowly faded, because it reminded me of innocence and simpler times. Freckled and Beautiful smells exactly like that little terracotta pot, layered with the 1990s soap-and-perfume quality others have noted and a trace of Coppertone sunscreen that deepens the nostalgia. Its soft honeysuckle feels luminous and comforting—less like a literal flower than the memory of one preserved in a cherished object. Floral, sweet, clean and ethereal, it captures the quiet magic of something ordinary becoming precious simply because of who you were when you loved it.

This scent instantly transported me to a scene. Yellow gingham tablecloth, large bay window in a kitchen, bright warm light and an orange grove and garden. A bowl of cereal and eating the cereal in front of a vase of fresh cut flowers. The milky sweetness of the cereal mingling with the sharp and green scent of the fresh cut stems and petals. This fragrance is very comforting and soft. I definitely smell the honeysuckle note and the green sharpness of neroli. But I definitely smell the milk, vanilla and biscuits at dry down. The first spritz is that honeysuckle and neroli. Then it softens to the milky biscuit but that green neroli note is definitely consistent past dry down. It’s a fresh and warm scent that is beautiful for spring and summer. But id wear this all year round anyway. The duration was fair. I’d say about 4 hours in is when it started to dissipate. The smell is my favorite and I’m ready to buy a full size of this gem.

I've sampled a lot of hyped fragrances and some are just meh for me but this! This is absolutely amazing! I just got my samples in today and all the rest were tossed to the side. There is something extremely familiar that I can't put my finger on and it's driving me crazy. There's some nostalgic vibes here and it's happy ones! What I love about this is it's not reserved for certain seasons, this will absolutely work all year round! I do get cigarettes at the very beginning, it's really mild and actually appealing it's not like some that stink like a dirty ashtray. It's gone though in like 30 seconds. It's a soft, sweet, fragrance that you honestly have to sample to understand. I'll end up with a full bottle before this sample is done!

Love at first sniff for me. Definitely evocative of summer and childhood. Subtle summer floral that every once in a while reads sunscreen, plastic pool releasing fumes or a swimsuit. Then cut it with a savory biscuit and milk which makes me think of a pb&j white bread sandwich, cut diagonally because you’re only 7. While not listed in the notes, I’m picking up a very light touch of strawberry too. The initial hit of a musky / musty note is a trip. Maybe it’s the sandalwood playing off of the biscuit, but it’s a little dirty. Not dirty as in skanky, but dirty as in stale laundry or a child with milk breath. Appetizing, right? It’s one of those memory triggers, but I love it. It’s a casual summer fragrance that makes you smell like a child who’s skin smells like the sun. Projects well and the longevity is decent. A unique scent that I hope more people fall for.

What a lovely floral gourmand. This fragrance has an uncanny resemblance to Mizensir Solar Blossom—they are siblings for sure, if not twins. It now makes sense to see the childlike model representation of this fragrance, which really conjures childhood memories and a state of innocence! It opens fresh and baby soft with neroli/orange blossom/honeysuckle. All listed notes are felt. Within a few moments, the bright neroli fades a bit, then you have orange blossom blending with milk and cookies on a vanilla/heliotrope base. Very light sandalwood. This fragrance is so soft, hazy, gentle and comforting. A timely comfort scent for our pandemic era. The orange blossom stays fresh, not syrupy, but the milk note could be too much for some. Not me—I quite enjoy floral gourmands, and find this one a great example of the genre. Sillage and longevity are above average.

I'm always looking for that perfect scent that's going to remind me of my immense love for life and all the possibilities it has to offer. I realized that found that perfect scent as I tried A Lab On Fire's Freckled and Beautiful. It's a gourmand avant garde niche, that will make you feel like the goddess you are, with a smart minimalist bottle design and a refreshing complex smell, that will leave you feeling more alive than ever before, the rejuvenating orange blossom and reviving honey suckle in the top notes join up so well with the gourmand biscuit accord and creamy heated milk aspects in the mid notes, and then all completed so perfectly with heady-powdery hortensia and the creamy sandal wood in the base notes, a masterfully crafted blend with no missing items to boost your mood and make you happy, it simply makes me so happy

Fresh bitter bite at first spray because of the neroli and honeysuckle which reminds me of my east coast childhood. It turns into a beautiful, sweet, creamy lactonic fragrance as it warms up on your skin and ends in this powdery gooey goodness. This is one of the most unique fragrances that I own and wow- it is really different and really good. I love the biscuit note in this too. It's a little savory (imagine opening up a pack of digestive biscuits and getting a waft of wheat, sugar, and salt) but not in a hyper-realistic food way. I can't wear this when it's too hot or too cold so this is my special occasion casual perfume. I genuinely enjoy this!

I cant put this fragrance down, Ive been wearing it for 4 days straight. I can detect biscuit and milk but its mixed with soft vanilla and sweet pretty gentle white florals, its like milk and wheat. Everything together is blended so well. The fragrance is addicting and elegant and unique, its comforting and cozy. I went through many fragrances but this one is truly unique. Its not liner, it does changes beautifully. Just so good. If I would compare it to other fragrance, I would say it slightly reminds me of Kilian Kissing, only because it is milk and florals, but thats where similarity ends. I want to say if you like one its worth exploring other.

Freckled and Beautiful is gorgeous, well-blended and deceptively complex. It transforms beautifully over time on the skin, more smoothly than any fragrance I’ve yet tried. While all the listed notes are apparent to varying degrees, there is an additional mineral-marine quality that adds so much dimension and balances the sweetness, reminiscent of a saltwater pool or a warm sea wind. I think of this as a Hans Christian Andersen-type mermaid fragrance, briefly tasting the sun’s warmth before dissolving back into seafoam on a rocky shore.

No biscuit. No milk. No vanilla. Pure, photorealistic honeysuckle, a bit of jasmine and lily. My favorite spring perfume next to the iconic Antonia’s Flowers, Goutal’s Chevrefeuille, and Demeter Tiger Lily. A softer, kinder Jo Malone Honeysuckle and Jasmine (my purchase from the Sloan Street flagship in 2000 where I encountered the nicest staff ever). A bit of my beloved Lily of the Valley thrown in around the “edges”. I certainly do not get any gourmand notes but it’s just spring glory to my nose, my favorite season.

(safe blind buy!!) got a sample of this a while ago and I think about it soo often. I usually don't like neroli in fragrances (it gives me a headache), but wow, it was paired so wonderfully with all the other notes that it gives a soft, floral, yet skin-like touch. Smells like a beautiful spring morning in the midwest, where all the blooming flowers are wafting through the air, and the warm sun is hitting your face just perfectly. So gorgeous and feminine, it will definitely be the next full size fragrance I buy.

If you like a more understated gourmand, this is really delicious. It's lactonic and biscuit-esque, but not nearly sweet as other gourmands. Orange blossom and honeysuckle hold their own. The lactonic, vanilla base definitely puts this fragrance in the same family as Lab on Fire's Made in Heaven, but I prefer this one by far. Very well blended and very yummy. I feel like you could wear this day or night, year round.

After constantly applying a sample for 3 days, I knew it was time for a full bottle. It's a creamy floral that is soft, warm and inviting. Often neroli gives me a headache or becomes too cloying but this one is blended so nicely that it stays calm. I wore this to bed last night and when I woke up it was the first thing I smelled on my pillow and it made me smile.

Hazy, sweet, milky doll's head scent with a dollop of orange blossom. The biscuits-and-milk keep this from being sharp; instead, it feels sweet, youthful and innocent. I enjoy wearing this to bed. I recognize the WWDIS DNA here, which is a lovely one, so if you like What We Do In Paris Is Secret or Messy Sexy Just Rolled Out of Bed, this one is worth trying.

I ordered it the day it became available (June 26th) and I've been basking in it all week. I LOVE this fragrance. It's pure joy and exhilaration! It's along the lines of Bobbi Brown Beach, but more floral and less plastic Coppertone (not complaining about Beach; I love it). This is my favorite fragrance. It's so me. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

Gorgeous and pleasantly juvenile nostalgic scent. Clean skin, sweet sunscreen, early morning sun in the middle of summer. Reminds me of running through sprinklers as a kid and making sidewalk drawings with pink and yellow chalk. This scent feels cinematic to me, I can envision exactly what it’s aiming for.

Very 1970s Coppertone-Pacific Ocean Air-California Jasmine on the breeze-euphoric-free-fun-nostalgic...I must have it! It’s not beautiful, like La Chasse or Delina...but it’s irresistibly joyful, energetic, and positive. It really does smell like childhood/pre-teen daydreams. It’s love, for me.

A nice warm skin scent. Not too sweet, not too sunblock-y ...just a nice soft combination of both with some milky floral muskiness in there as well. It's not too strong of a scent. Won't offend anyone, or stand out too loudly. You will just smell nice and like a warm day. Very pleasant.

this is sweet and creamy white florals with a bready vanilla and lactonic notes. It’s soft and not too overly sweet, it feels like a breath of sweet fresh air in the summertime. The sandalwood here adds some depth to an otherwise airy sweet scent.

This is such a gorgeous fragrance! Creamy honeysuckle with some savory & powdery notes. Blended like a dream, different than any perfume in my collection. Started with a decant but I’ll definitely be purchasing a full bottle. Its so good!

Milky, foggy, hazy orange blossom that reminds me of misty mornings waiting for the bus as a kid, still smelling like milk and cereal. Virginia honeysuckle, east coast greenery. Extremely nostalgic, I’m absolutely obsessed.

Really beautiful! It's really pretty and delicious on me, it feels like being next to a fragrant honeysuckle bush on a warm day. Holding a buttery croissant. (Milk notes are consistently good on me for some reason.)

Biscuits in paris. thats the only way i can describe this perfume. the honeysuckle being the front runner in this perfume it is truly a beautiful mix of gourmound and white floral.

Beautiful creamy white florals with a gourmand touch. Nailed the SoCal summer inspiration. Immediately brought me back to childhood summers by the pool in Palm Springs.

Beautiful. Milky, floral. Something a little sharp in the opening I didn't recognize. Cozy in the same way I find Blanche Bete cozy.

The structure of this reminds me of Wonder Bouquet by Mugler (pastry accord mixed with florals) but I like this one more.

I couldn’t really conceptualize what this combination of notes would smell like and when I first smelled this, it took me back. But I think I do like this. It’s slightly sweet VERY buttery honeysuckles and orange blossoms. The “biscuit” and milk notes are very prominent at the beginning before the florals come through, but the biscuit scent stays running throughout. A unique but likable fragrance. Definitely try before buying as the buttery note is interesting to say the least. I love this more as an experience rather than something I could see myself wearing easily. There IS something of summertime nostalgia in the scent, something of a hazy halcyon daydream that doesn’t exist in reality.

such a fun, sweet summery scent! i'm a huge lactonic fan, so i knew i had to grab a sample of this one when warmer weather rolled around, and freckled & beautiful did not disappoint! the pastry-like biscuit note is definitely at the forefront, along with a strong hit of orange blossom/neroli and honeysuckle. i think the heliotrope and vanilla definitely soften this strong scent out a bit. longevity is pretty decent, and i would say that if you usually shy away from sweet frags, this might not be for you. the only downside for me is that this scent can turn a bit metallic over time, giving it a type of salinity/bite that i'm not a huge fan of. other than that, such a fun and gorgeous frag!

I wish I could pick up on the milk and biscuits note everyone else is getting. My initial thought upon first sniff was ‘This smells so familiar.’ I’m thinking Johnson’s baby oil or Demeter New Baby. Maybe the milk note is bringing these baby images to mind. I tried to remember what Ava Luxe Milk smells like, maybe that’s what’s hitting that chord. It smells innocent and comforting. It’s like sniffing a newborn baby’s head once it dries down. It’s very soft, not powdery, but a very delicate, slightly sweet vanilla, baby oil, and a whiff of natural skin.

Pretty at first and then just evaporates. This starts out as a rather impressionistic floral. I couldn't identify any specific flower and it definitely isn't photo realistic honeysuckle but the thought was there. It quickly settles into a milky/creamy pastry scent and then simple evaporates into nothing within an hour or so. Very pleasant, nothing to dislike but also so fleeting as to not be worth a full bottle. Which is too bad, because the scent has promise.

I really wanted to love this. I am a major lactonic fragrance lover and was searching for something with those lactonic notes as well as a bready/biscuity note and I thought this would be perfect, but those top notes are POWERFUL. It's still a beautiful fragrance but I would not consider this primarily gourmand or lactonic, to me it's just a lovely floral scent with a little intrigue on the back end from the biscuit note.

So happy I got to try. It isn’t a buy for me, but what an unusual, happy, innocent scent. Captures the moment when everyone needs a snack in the shade after spending a summer afternoon running through the sprinkler. Everyone is smiling and laughing, and ready for a rest on a lounger. With milk and cookies of course. A perfectly-named fragrance.

a warm lactonic floral gourmand that i imagine would be perfect for a love interest to wear. delicate, idyllic, amorous, manages to be simplistic while having just enough of mysticism to keep it interesting. perfect for wistfully daydreaming...

I just have a dab sample of this and wish I had a spray to get the full effect. I love it but for the price wish that it gave a little more. It also really reminds me of BVLGVRI petits et mamans but a bit more dynamic and less “baby” smelling.

Beautiful scent! Very feminine (flowers&cookies) but not cheap or cloying. It does not smell childish whilst it is quite common among cookies perfumes. Absolutely safe as a blind buy. Probably will add it to my wish list.

For me, this started as cigarettes and milk chocolate. It morphed into a creamy vanilla lotion scent.

This one starts off with a rich, gourmand + white floral combo, but it lasts for just minutes before it dries into a milky pastry scent. The neroli, orange blossom, and honeysuckle come in strong in the beginning with just a hint of the vanilla and milky accord, which gives it a very comforting vibe. If anything, I wish I could capture that scent. The dry down really picks up the vanilla, sandalwood, heliotrope, and pastry scents. I want to like that part, but it's overbearingly sweet, even for my taste, as someone who loves sickeningly sweet scents. The sandalwood adds some powdery notes that I'm not quite in love with. Overall, it's a nice scent, but it smells a little bit like toddlers in the summer. Young and sweet, but perhaps a little too youthful for the average perfume wearer.

It doesn't smell very fresh to me. Smells like a preschool classroom: a bit musty, like unwashed hair or worn clothes from a thrift shop, combined with the faint sweet smell of kids' sticky fingers. I can appreciate it for the scent of childhood it captures, but I'd never want to spray this on myself. Someone else described it as this is how they imagined Carrie from the eponymous horror movie would smell. And I agree! They meant it in a positive way, but I do not. I don't want to smell like an awkward religious teenager with a tenuous grasp on self-care, in a poor household. EDIT: Honestly, this is really growing on me. It's smelling less musty and more delicately sweet. Like you mixed milk, biscuits, and a cozy worn tshirt.

Review based on sampling only, not owning. Interesting! Impressive. Kinda too sweet, but appealing too. Crazy that I can smell biscuit and milk! Comforting. Would not want to seek out, but this could grow in me. Interestingly floral and gourmand. Second try -even better orange blossom. Just don’t love all the notes together- odd blend. Third try- yeah, sweet milkiness is too much. Nice to try though!

I picked up a discovery set from this brand mainly because I was curious to try Freckled and Beautiful. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit of a letdown for me. I don’t detect any biscuit or cereal notes at all. To my nose, it’s primarily about soft white florals with a smooth touch of vanilla. I’ve never been to the USA, so perhaps biscuits smell different there than they do here in Europe 😄

- Straight from the vial I smell the biscuit note, but it isn't prominent on my skin until drydown but I'm okay with that. The scent is angelic and beautiful. I smell orange blossom, LOTV, and sweet milky, buttery notes. Love it! It smells like buttered biscuits. 🤗 Drydown is long lasting and it smells like almond woody vanilla. fbw for me? no, I have too many bottles already.
