For Men

The older I get the more subtle and understated my fragrance choices. In practical terms this has meant that I gravitate toward older, classic colognes by older, established houses. By looking for both elegance and discretion I'm getting quite a collection of classic British fragrances and barber shop colognes supplemented with a few old school American, Italian, and French products. So it shouldn't be surprising that Woods of Windsor hits the sweet spot for me. Applied conservatively it offers a gentle air of lemon, lavender, clove and nutmeg, clean and grassy oakmoss and wood to those within an arm's length for a solid 4-5 hours, which is long enough for any fragrance as far as I'm concerned. A delightful combination of warmth and freshness for an unseasonably wet and cool May day like today. Unfortunately I'm pretty certain it's been discontinued. It was always made in small batches so it often disappeared for a year at a time. But it has been gone now for three years or longer, so it might be dead and gone. It still pops up on Ebay from time to time, but seldom at the $25 price it sold at when it was in production. If you see it, snag it.

A really nice lemon and clove scent. I'm wary of citrus in general since many fragrances that are citrus-heavy in the opening are too sharp for me, but this one nails it-- the spice and lemon are in perfect balance here. I don't notice much oakmoss but I seem to have the newer bottle (pictured) so there could be some post-IFRA shenanigans at work. I also get much more clove than nutmeg. Projection and longevity are just so-so for me (four to five hours max with two sprays to the neck and two to the chest) but it's really a lovely scent. Any more spice and the lemon would smell like lemonade but any less, and you've got lemon Pledge. Not terribly expensive so worthy of a blind buy if you like clove and lemon.

Highly recommend. Handsome dry aristocratic masculine scent. Truly for a gentleman. My bottle is from 2018. I separate the citruses note in the pyramid into mild lemongrass and subdued orange. The woody note leans towards pine. The clove and nutmeg dance beautifully together. Also, I detect a light cinnamon note reminiscent of a forgotten wrapper of Wrigley's Big Red chewing gum in a blazer breast pocket. It is an inexpensive refined hidden gem and traditionally balanced, so I would not be surprised if men of the peerage wear this on occasion.

I bought this fragrance based on the reviews - and they are all right!! Fantastic masculine perfume and to my surprise it smells almost like Aramis - Aramis. I can say that Woods of Windsor is even better balanced! Yes there is also a little Dunhill there! So good men's perfume and only £13.50 !!!

Woods of Windsor.... ...yes, it is definitely British. Citrus, Spice (clove and nutmeg) and patchouli. The opening is harsh and sharp and it turns into a nice dry spicy scent with quite a lot of patchouli in the background. I don't detect any oakmoss though. If you know the first 30 minutes of Givenchy Gentlemen Originale (1974) with the heavy patchouli note you will have an idea of what Woods of Windsor will smell like once the citrus opening has disappeared. Not quite sure why some reviewers compare this to Aramis but i suppose every nose is very different. While the fragrance is pleasant it unfortunately only lasts about 80 to 90 minutes on my skin. And i don't mean it will turn into a skin scent.....it's gone as if someone switched it off. It is quite strong while it lasts and within a blink of an eye it disappears.

Everything is very simple here.. (well at least for the vintage Cologne which I think is from 82) The notes specified here are very accurate in view of what I get out of it on my skin. Citrus and spices above all complement a tamed oak moss. It's neither harsh nor offensive..it's clean slightly soapy and the patchouli here doesn't scream anything hippy. Everything is flexible and is suitable for example for an office atmosphere, for going out without wanting to be noticed except during embraces. The sillage is therefore weak and the correct staying power of around 5 hours (always for the Cologne and not the edt displayed here). If you like nutmeg and cloves, it's perfect ! It's a simply pleasant perfume according to my tastes

Feels natural and refreshing. The opening citrus is quite pleasant and basic then it dries down nice and warm with the cloves. A light, simple fragrance. Has a locally-produced, homemade natural quality that I like. Good for everyday daytime wear. (Again, curious about what it was like pre-reformulation.) The citrus is not as fancy as, say, Acqua di Parma Colonia or Armani Pour Homme, but the charm lies in its simplicity. Might be considered too stodgy for younger people, but I can see an older gent liking this. Performance and longevity is not very strong but it's good for mild weather. I find myself wearing it on cold and rainy/overcast days. It is comforting then. Reminiscent of the English countryside.

the opening is very alcohol and avon comes to mind quickly.the citrus and clove instantly duke it out and confuses the senses.cleaning products for sure is in the air for only 2 seconds though.mild cloves mix with oakmoss within 3 minutes and will remind you of leather. this stuff tricks you into thinking it has pine sort of and is stranger than azzaro pour homme.you'd never believe that what started as a cat fight would end so peaceful.this is such a fun cologne! Edit:weeks later,what have i been missing?this could've been my favorite had i found this years ago.

Woods of Windsor for men smells mossy, soapy, spicy, creamy, and leathery. I would put it loosely in the same category as English Leather and British Sterling, but more relaxed, subtle, and (especially) of a higher quality. It smells like the ingredients are better.

This classic from 1981 exudes classic British elegance without being pompous. A blend of slightly bitter and woody oakmoss with warming clove and cinnamon. A slight bit of earthy patchouli with the tang of lemon and the depth of dry herbs. There is something soapy in here as well, which I am going to guess is geranium acting with the lemon and verbena. It has a somewhat cooling vibe underneath it all. It reads a bit like an aftershave. This warm and woody composition speaks of old-world class. It embarks on a journey that doesn't have many surprises but it does what it is meant to do. It entertains the guests and it is well worth the price of admission. For its price, this composition smells decently natural, even though it's not. This is simply one of the best oakmoss fragrances I have smelled. It highlights the warm woody nature of the materials and elevates it with warm autumn spices without it being too rich. This fragrance is perfectly at home in the heat as well due to its somewhat fresh undertones. A simply remarkable fragrance, in my humble opinion. A signature scent for a man who has a sense of traditional style and manners. It's a delightful dip into nostalgia that keeps me coming back for more.

First dab sampling from a vintage bottled dated 1995 (it's a long rectangular bottle with a different design from the one pictured). I was pleasantly surprised by everything about this one, especially ingredient quality. Longevity is excellent but it's hard for me to judge projection ("sillage") from a dab sampling. It's rather simple and the note pyramid appears accurate, with just a touch of sweetness. The balance seems very good, which is important for me with citrus scents (because of how sharp they can be), and there seems to be quite a bit of oakmoss present (and not that much patchouli). Very nice and definitely niche-like !

This is a high quality, well-blended woody spicy treat with an extremely affordable price point. I'd say this is the best-kept secret in the frag community but I think now the cat's out of the bag thanks to yours truly. Woods of Windsor for Men is the epitome of idyllic British understated elegance, unadorned, unpretentious, and thoroughly terrific to wear.

Bloody good! Woods of Windsor positively oozes old-fashioned British tradition. This is Wellies... Barbour... Range Rover... Weekends in the Cotswolds. Yes, this just might be the quintessential rural English fragrance. Eminently stiff upper lip, in a crumpled, tweedy way. Toodle, pip!

I splash this on my husband whenever he's freshly showered. It's a pleasant citrusy spicy scent that smells just right.
