Fars

I have a lot to say about this fragrance, but it is more about the culture that inspired this instead of the construction or the smell of the fragrance itself. And I'm not really sure why. Middle Eastern style fragrances are a dime a dozen nowadays. Some more expensive than others and some are done much better than others. And I will be honest. I'm not the expert when it comes to middle east perfumery. I do think, however, that I have good taste. And if I think something smells good, I'm fairly certain that other people will agree with me. Fars smells good. If we are talking straight Middle Eastern styles, I think Fars is very smooth and almost creamy without negotiating any sort of sweet or lactonic notes in its construction. For those of you who don't know, there is no rose either. That is surprising to me when I heard that the first time. Geranium is instead the culprit and a very good one at that. I quite like the substitution because it gives the composition a bit of interest. On top of everything else of course, but it is indeed another layer to discuss and think about. The fragrance does not change or transition upon first spray to the last experience. It is linear for sure and sometimes that's perfectly fine. Because it is blended so well, I think it works out fine. Apparently there is indeed an oud distillation process going on after all. However, I'm not sure if it counts as it is considered white oud instead of your typical Cambodian etc. White oud in this composition is amber buaya. If you want to know more about this pure distillation process, Google is your best friend right now. I had to look it up myself. I could go on forever because how much depth has gone into this fragrance. And it shows! I highly recommend and I don't recommend this style very often. It deserves a chance at the very least. Give it a shot!

At first, it smells very strong and spicy. After half an hour, the smell become ambergris -floral like. I can smell geranium after 10 minutes. The smell is very special. I say it's different from all the perfumes I've tried so far. In the middle note, I smell ambergris, saffron, and geranium in order of concentration. It's really special. It smells like saffron mixed with geranium and has a bit of a sweet taste. Perhaps, one reason that this perfume named FARS is for saffron in it. as you know Saffron is the traditional plant in Fars (Iran). I'll buy you, my beautiful one. در ابتدا که بسیار بویش تند و قویه. نیم ساعت بعد، بوی آمبری، گلی میشه. شمعدانی رو بعد از ۱۰ دقیقه توش حس میکنم. بویش خیلی خاصه. میشه گفت با تمام عطرهائی که تا حالا تست کردم، متفاوته در نت میانی اش آمبرگریس و زعفران و شمعدانی رو به ترتیب غلظت حس میکنم. واقعا خاصه. یه بوی زعفران که با شمعدانی قاطی هست و یکمی به شیرینی میزنه، رو میده یک دلیلی که شاید این عطر رو به اسم (فارس) نام گذاری کردند وجود زعفران که گیاهی بومی ایران میباشد در این عطر است میخرمت قشنگم

Fars by Xerjoff, one of the house's most beautiful compositions. A true fusion between East and West. It follows the same line as TF's Noir de Noir, but is MUCH more refined in every sense—from the house's own signature (DNA) to its majestic composition. The opening evokes an almost brilliant transparency, reminiscent of a highly aromatic white wine (without any effervescence) that gradually evolves into a super comforting base of dry woods, without losing its semi-floral/marine freshness. Extremely refined, it evokes a desire for discovery. An excellent signature scent with a highly sophisticated, semi-formal to formal vibe. Final thoughts: Not challenging at all. Highly pleasant. Excellent! Reminds me of: An aromatic drink, hyper-fresh flowers, an earthy sensation, semi-dry, with a sweeter and creamier drydown.

This may be one of my favourites of the oud stars collection, tho I don’t get a ton of oud from it. There is that gasoline type thing faintly in the open, but once it settles, it becomes more “fresh”. Beautiful, aromatic...definitely more “light” than the others I’ve tried from the line, but without becoming transparent. When this dries down, it becomes sharper. And I found it to project a bit more as it wears (kind of like what hacivat does), so lately I’ve been easing up on the sprays and I think it wears better that way. The lavender and dihydromyrcenol maybe give it a slight “masculine” barbershop freshie note, but doesn’t take the perfume as a whole into that territory. Definitely unisex. Really nice and clean.

Fars stands for the ancient kingdom of Persia. So expect a luxurious scent of a premium scented bukhoor/arabic incense. A sweet luscious geranium gives the smell of an exotic rose over a sweet minty incense thanks to Nagarmotha/Pine Oil. A touch of earthy sweet patchouli. The Oud is sweet and minimalisitc to provide richness and depth. Perfect scent for those who are uninitiated into arabic fragrances. Thos who are may find it generic but the quality shines. Suited for the night time in a cold/pleasant weather. Performance is great 6 to 8 hours with soft sillage. Connoisseurs can find a more hardcore version in Kemi's Jabir (From Xerjoff)

Xerjoff created a real beauty with Fars. It has an authentic antiquity about it, but it still smells modern and timely. Would be at home in ancient Persia or today's London or New York City. Rose isn't listed as an ingredient, but it's unmistakably present in the opening. Dusty and subdued. Not at all jammy. Then again, it might be an olfactory illusion due to the blending of bergamot, geranium, and jasmine. One of my top 5 from the house. Refreshing green and woody fragrance. Heavy on the juniper and jasmine, Fars has an uplifting piney scent to it with a bit of patchouli's signature spicy-sweetness, like a coniferous mountain forest. The other notes may contribute faint hints of their freshest aspects to amplify the "upliftingness" of the scent profile, and if the oud in here is noticeable at all it's also contributing to that plus the woody base notes. The woody base is prominent but rather nondescript. Linear drydown. Strong projection for 2-3hr, longevity 12hr+.

This is completely intoxicating to me! I find myself opening the cap and sniffing it throughout the day. For some reason, I find it too precious just to wear for no particular occasion. This was my first XJ and now the first of six, I'm hooked. Fars to me is sweet, buttery, seductive and so very classy. Not sure of all the fraghead lingo, I just know that it's a complete knockout and I'm in love!. Also, I feel it is completely unisex (but my husband doesn't think so he says it smells like rich woman) straight down the line.

An olfactory ode to ancient Persia, this is a scent that immediately takes you to the lands of the Arabian nights. The perfume opens with fresh notes of citrus, juniper and lavender and moves to a brief heart that is composed of geranium, jasmine and cedar before it settles into its dense powdery base of ambergris, patchouli, cypriol, sandalwood, vetiver and oud. The unisex perfume has moderate to strong projection and good longevity. Pleasant, enjoyable and comforting. Enjoy!

It hits you like a fresh yet somewhat not fresh fragrance, floral, woody warm yet fresh... kind of confusing but that what I like about it. It's almost like if you took Alexandria II and made it fresher and have a less weird opening. It kind of holds its top notes throughout the drydown, making this fragrance smell similar at all stages. I would say, although its a unisex, it has somewhat feminine vibe but too little to matter.

When I wear Fars I have to read very carefully between the olfactive lines to understand whether I am in a dream or in real life. This is the closest I've ever been to perfume paradise . A majestic symphony of exotic flowers and herbs resting on a base of ambergris and oud. Fars is dreamy , like a morning walk in a persian garden.

I am so suprised that no one here didnt mention that this fragrance smells almost identical to montales black aoud.Lot of earth patchoulli oud based fragrance. I am not recogniseing any notes from list above. Not worth money and to my nose overhyped. Dont blind buy it,try before you buy it-dont be fooled like me.

Opens with lots of patchouli. Was thinking about selling my decant at first. But the drydown is absolutely FANTASTIC. VERY calming, this would be great in spring and fall. Another great fragrance from Xerjoff (which can be hit or miss), this one is definitely a hit.

It starts with something boozy similar to one used in Nefs by nishane. There is a beautiful rose in the background which is similar to the one is used in nawab of oudh. And geranium is also prominent. This is an unique fragrance. I love it. Great performance .

Great fragrance ,to me it smells similar to Tom Ford oud wood but in my opinion it’s so much better and got more depth to the fragrance , definitely one of my favourites in my whole collection a 10/10 for me and the perfect night time scent

For reviewer 'Olympe' - I'm fairly sure that the soap you remember from your childhood in India is CHANDRIKA brand AYURVEDIC SOAP. It's scent isn't as deep, complex or refined as 'FARS', but I immediately knew what you were thinking of.

Oof, this smells like money. And so it should, considering the damage it did to my bank balance a few years ago. Decided to wear it today after a long while, and yes, it's still a banger, just as I remember it!

Nothing animalic about this fragrance. It’s pretty refreshing, spicy, and floral. It’s unique and won’t offend anyone. I think it’s pretty unisex and can be great with cooler weather.

The cedar, juniper, and sandalwood really jump at you in this one. It smells like it has a bit of oud in it. It feels very elegant and silky when worn with moderate performance.

Classy stuff from Xerjoff. Expencive, but you can smell it! This is my favorit (and the most versatile) from the Oud Star line, though I prefer Kobe over this one.

I have to agree with Oslo-fjord, this is the best one from this new Oud Star collection.

I really wanna get my hands on this as soon as possible. I need this in my collection.

Very interesting, this smells very Middle Eastern like the smell reminds me of classic middle eastern barbershops also mosques and churches in the Middle East across Dubai and Turkey. Don’t blind this! This isn’t a bad scent but not my cup of tea. I don’t like the opening but the dry down is very lovely once it settles. This scent is very mature leaning. I would say the age range for this scent could be 38+ For men. Although since it’s unisex I can’t see women pulling this one off it’s very strong Animalic/Fougère smelling. If you’re into mature barbershop 💈 smelling fragrances this is perfect for you. This is also a Fougère and has that old-school vibe to it. One of my friends had a sample and told me to spray this on my wrist and blotter card. Without seeing what the sample vile was. In my head, after I let it sit for 1 minute I thought this scent was very animalistic/ oudy. I can also smell a bit of floral-like lavender. Other than that I’m getting old-school vibes of Drakkar noir and freshly lit incense. As this stuff sits on my hand and settles down it changes it gets spicer on my skin and it’s very calming and relaxing I think it’s because of the sandalwood and Cypriol along with ambergris and patchouli. The projection is very moderate to beastly depending on how much you spray. As for longevity this stuff last over 8+ hours easily on the skin and will last more on clothes. Final thoughts: The opening isn’t that great it starts off very strong and animalic then transitions to a barbershop type scent and then on the dry down turns spicy and relaxing almost like spiced Indian chai. Get this fragrance if you’re into barbershop scents.

Hah! Giant thumbs up to "nooo it's not addiction, we call that Passion" below :P I'm beginning to notice patch + lavender + bergamot + muskiness has an almost narcotic effect on me. This one definitely counts, and added bonus for blending 2 of the most incongruous ingredients I can think of (lemony fresh geranium and dark oud/ambergris?) seamlessly. I got this sample in a grabbag and had no idea what I was in for much earlier in my frangrance journey. The first time I wore it it smelled like Druidic magic to me; earthy, raw, damp, dark. Mm... But still a fresh quality behind it that made it entrancing. Now revisiting it, the bottom line is that this is some of THE smoothest darkness you can find, beautifully balanced (oud? ambregris?) with geranium/lavender freshness. I've been tempted to buy it to share several times... maybe one day I will succumb to the magic ;) [updated 11.25.14]

There are hints of Mancera Aoud Exclusif in this fragrance, though that one is much drier and spicier, while this leans more floral. The oud here is very nice, smooth and never overpowering. The perfume is elegant, inoffensive, and the dry down is exceptional. If I were to purchase a full bottle in this scent profile, it would be a toss-up between Aoud Exclusif, which can be found at a much cheaper price, with stronger projection and performance, and Fars, which I really enjoy for its florals. Aoud Exclusif leans more masculine, whereas Fars feels much more unisex. 8/10. For me, it’s slightly overpriced for what you’re getting; however, it is a beautiful fragrance.

This is by far one of my top three from the house. It is most definitely an underrated gem imo; better than Alex II AND III; Tony Iommi; the entire velvet and JTC collections. It is a compliment getter; leaves an expensive scent trail and smells like old money, CEO’s, boss bitches and straight up sexy individuals with money and know their worth. It’s so seductive and Scentual and one of a kind. I love it-it will always be in my curated collection of 100 or so frags and in heavy rotation during the colder months of the year on my scent tray. Buy it, blind buy it if you’re not too scared you will not be sorry.

This has been the best Xerjoffs from the recent ones I've tried. Rose and geranium, along with patch and some well-proportioned woodiness really complete the scent. It's full-bodied and functions as a well-put-together, cohesive and unified scent that reminds me of some of the MFK oud offerings. The reason I'm not entirely swayed is because the floral element could probably be amped up a little (for my tastes, at least). I felt that would make it a lot more alluring, to me at least. Anyway, a great scent, I imagine a lot of people would really go for this one...

Initial spray, I'm mostly getting saffron accompanied by rose and oud. Although rose is not listed as notes; my nose picks it up easily. This goes on for a good hour. Then Sandalwood starts playing hide and sick, it must have been buried under the heaviness of rose here. High quality scent but not necessarily a blind-buy. I can see this has been a success for Chris Maurice (the nose behind Fars) in terms of capturing the essence of Persian sweets specially the one they called Halvaa. Overal 7/10

Gorgeous scent but definitely different to the pyramid to my nose! Starts with something boozy, followed by a rose oud, the soft, creamy kind of oud, nothing barny, just luxury woodsy with the authentic (but more westernized) oud. Then the herbs and geranium shine with a musky feeling on the drydown, a little more herbal than I usually like but I'm definitely enjoyin the sample especially initial phase.

Spicy Lavender than is done tastefully I wont classify it as green scent, its more spicy and floral a bit. Its does have the back bone of some other Xerjoff perfumes, like the proprietory blend, but made nice. Its a nice classic scent but doesnt wow me for some reason. Its just okay and I dont find it particulary interesting. Has a classic shaving foam scent. Its a like only and I wont run to purchase.

Despite of its presentation in a dark glass, this frag is shiny, easy to wear and very versatile. It has a great balance of masculine/ feminine notes and can be used by anyone. Soft and smooth oriental with a hint of lavender - one of those Xerjoff scents you can blind buy and like easily. I believe it can be a great gift for the person who likes niche perfumes but who is not into extreme formulations.

I don't know why this scent is part of the oud collection, because for my nose it's mainly patchouli scent, reminds me Richwood from the same brand, even the base notes are similar. I like it because I love patchouli from Xerjoff, after 1 hour dries down to a skin scent, smells like bar of soap. Overall good perfume, but nothing special, longevity is not the best side of this one.

There is nothing animalic or challenging about it. Strong lavender with jasmine and cade oil creates a beautiful wild honey accord. Xerjoff claims the use of white oud from Laos, which is not presented in the pyramid on the page, but it is there and it is extremely light and creamy. I need to go back to my decant, but this is easily a summer-friendly fragrance.

Animalic and powdery fougere-style fragrance, with a spicy rose & sandalwood on the drydown. Quite masculine but very comforting too, like a warm hug from granddad. Layered it today with my Armaf Odyssey Homme and it's divine. Booming sillage, lasts all day. Best in autumn & winter, preferably the latter.

sweeter than I thought it was going to be. It’s a strong lavender, floral and earthy scent that doesn’t really evoke anything in me. It’s a pretty good scent but that’s about it, I was expecting more. For niche, the price isn’t worth it. You can find something similar if not better somewhere else.

Average...decent enough, hard to dislike but for the price I don't believe this is bottle worthy. There are better Xerjoff's available. Received as a sample but I won't be purchasing a full bottle. Also, the performance on my skin is lacking. I expected a little better.

Really addictive on first sniff, kept sniffing my wrist. But when actually wearing it on my neck, found it to be a little repetitive and annoying, it's like it's constantly reminding you it's there and it's exceedingly linear. So, I dunno - probably a pass.

I truly wanted to fully enjoy this fragrance and, if the case, even buy a full bottle of it, but it simply did not tick the UNIQUENESS checkbox for me. To my nose, this fragrance is just a powerful linear rose/geranium scent, once it reaches my skin. I currently own several Xerjoff releases, which I carefully selected in order to make sure the juices are unique among the perfumes in my collection, but this one simply could not make it. I have tried to detect oud in this fragrance by testing it several days in a row, at different moments of the day, but all my attempts were unsuccessful. It projects like mad, it lasts a crazy amount of time on my very dry skin (that's a victory!), but the flavor itself is nothing that I have never encountered before. On the contrary. If you own Portrait Of a Lady, you tend to use it as a reference for many florals in general, and Fars did not score anything against it.

Very nice drydown where you get a somewhat powdery clean woody lavender floral scent, but I think the opening is quite a synthetic feeling along the lines of a mancera style sticky/cloying fruity sweetness. This dies down and kind of gives a turkish delight vibe before leading to the smooth scent I mentioned in the drydown. Overall its a like but you need to persevere past the opening imho.

Reminds me of Wrights coal tar soap with some added florals ( geranium and a huge whack of jasmine). It’s by no means an unpleasant scent and better on the dry down than the opening, but too much of the aforementioned florals in there for my taste, especially the jasmine. Alsoa little too reminiscent of that soap I mentioned and I don’t really want to smell this way from a perfume.

For me, this is not perfume paradise. I feel that this is a fragrance that is very similar to the dozens of potent rose/ floral ‘oud’ combos out there. Agree with reviewer below that you don’t have to look far to find something very similar from a discount Arabian house at a fraction of the cost. I really enjoy some of Xerjoff’s offerings but this wasn’t one of them.

The fragrance opens with a vibrant burst of lavender and rose. As it develops, the floral notes remain prominent while the woods gradually emerge. I don't detect any oud in this blend. Fars offers excellent longevity and projection. While it's a lovely scent, I find it a bit too feminine for my personal preference.

Lavender has been done tastefully with smooth white chocolate. Sweet woods are the backbone. It seems like the perfumer tried to go the non-traditional route and tried to combine oriental sweet and fougere perfume. Pass for me.

Fars opens up very rosy and somewhat sweet. The rose subsides or I should say is subsumed into a more generic, sweet floral scent. If there's any oud in there, I can't find it. Strange, coming from the "Oud Stars" collection. Not animalic or barnyard stinky at all. Eventually, a smooth and creamy woody accord appears. Longevity is quite good, while sillage is at the top end of average. I'm only giving the scent a dislike rating from my perspective (as a man wearing it). Fars is woman perfume and I'd love to smell this on a woman.

Tested it before buying and don’t like it. Good projection and lasts about 6 hours. It opened on my skin with zero citrus just lavender and vetiver with odd plastic doll scent. Middle notes quickly appeared for cedar then it became green scent of earthy grass. Nothing smelled right on me so this is a pass. Usually I can blind buy Xerjoff perfume but I’m glad I tested this one first.

This is unpleasant. Dominant sharp, tart and green geranium/rose accord. Synthetic and cheap smelling. 5/10 at best

I sampled about 20 different fragrances over the course of 4 weeks and then I met this. On paper it was a pass for me, it didn’t capture my attention. Then I eventually tried it on skin... wow. I’m quite sensitive to scents that are too sweet/loud/thick/creamy and Fars is just crystal clear. It’s the oud I love, no animalic notes, pure opulence. It’s sharp in the opening, just flirting with being too much for my nervous system. It pulls back after about 20min and from there it’s sheer bliss. But even the opening is addictive. I found myself applying it throughout the day. I’m so happy I found this. It evokes class, opulence, champagne, diamonds, quiet luxury. If you’re looking for a beast in terms of projection, this is not that. This is that person who doesn’t want to be noticed and still gets noticed. It’s effortless, it’s intimate, it sit close to the skin on drydown but damn it’s smells of pure luxury. I think if you’re susceptible to nausea and headaches from fragrances, you’re completely in the safe zone here. First 20mins might feel a bit high frequency but it settles so well. This is in the same family of Roja’s Aoud, it doesn’t smell the same but it’s that oud done in a western way.
