Ummo

I'm not a tobacco lover, but I find Ummo to be a beautiful perfume. The opening has a fresh (green) hay and tobacco flower smell, which reminds me a lot of Versace's "The Dreamer." The opening is unusually soft and airy (as opposed to punchy or attention grabbing) with a subtle, nectary sweetness. In the heart, Ummo becomes more intense, and the primary note to my nose is a very realistic, golden honey. Though it is mildly sweet in the heart, it reminds me of the actual taste of honey - dusty, waxy, and slightly medicinal. I also get dried herbs here, and a bitter astringency. The brand lists styrax, which could be either liquidambar tree (which is what fragrantica says) or benzoin. With the power of that suggestion though, I think back to the brown, earthy, dry sticky smell of the seed pods of the liquidambar trees from my childhood. (You may know them as gumballs or spike balls.) The base is a mellow warm, dusty woody fragrance with light levels of sweetness.

I recently tried this in store and in their display (the English portion) said it had Styrax, but in the Spanish portion it listed something else, I wish I could remember what it was! I think this brand is overpriced, but if I was to treat myself to a Xinú it would be this one. It was sexy, sultry and deep. Although they don't list any Oud, It reminded me of Oud Wood from Tom Ford, with more subtle sweetness and complexity. Also important to note, the honey note in this is the smell of Mexican honey products, which is my favorite interpretation of honey! Not the overly sweet and cloying honey scents we get in popular perfumes. If you've ever bought artisanal honey products from Mexico, that's what the honey in this smells like, I love it!

I've been waiting for Fragrantica to add this one: Ummo is utterly sublime. I don't know what sorcery this is, but Rodrigo Flores-Roux has managed to make an all-weather tobacco fragrance. I've had to ration my 50ml bottle over the past year, but Ummo truly sings in all weather: even the muggiest summer day. Is it the tobacco flowers? Somebody help me! All of the XINÚ fragrances are excellent, but to me, Ummo, Monstera, and Oronardo are in a league of their own. I would literally bathe in Ummo were it not for the price, so if anyone knows of anything even remotely comparable at a lower price point, PLEASE PLEASE message me, as my wallet can't keep up with my nose here...

got this as a birthday gift for myself when I was in Mexico City, its such a beautiful tobacco perfume that dries down very sweet on me (similar to Le Labo's Tabac) but I feel this is more complex than tabac. there's a scent I'm picking up that my untrained nose smells and I wish I could explain what it is but its yummy. Of all the perfumes I smelled in the Xinu store, this one was my favorite!

Ummo is... amazing. I barely even care about the opening or the so-called tobacco (... and I adore tobacco) and just love how a few drops on my pulse points transforms into natural, warm, resinous, dark, expansive magic with the barest trace of sweetness. It's like embers and those orange-red sparks that fly from the hearth... and it LASTS. An instant mood-lifter.

A beautifully done, if not unique, dusty tobacco/cedar/tonka fragrance. Reminds me a lot of Le Labo's Tabac 28 and Akro Smoke but this is my favourite of the bunch, with the added bonus that the presentation is stunning. This would make a great signature scent for someone with deeper pockets than me, it's that versatile.

Such an incredible fragrance! It’s a rich tobacco with lots of balsamic, sweet, boozy and powdery notes. It’s a mind-blowing combination with a bit of animalic undertones that give it even more character. I think it also has quite a lot of incense. Outstanding!! Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Fresh tobacco! And I mean FRESH. While I'm sure this could be a stunner during the colder months, I'm wearing this right now at the start of Texas summer, and the dry down is working wonderfully in this weather. The juniper and cedar are blossoming on my skin, and it's so addicting!

I love the scents but don't wear it often because it ready very masculine on me. Tobacco forward, sweet, mature scent. Very elegant and mysterious. Serious. Moody and deep vibes.

Upon first application it is subtle. Almost unnoticeable smell of siryx. Then you sniff the juniper and suddenly at minute 5 you are hit with the overwhelming smell of baby powder. Not floral baby powder but the neutral stuff mexican grandparents used to shower over us and our shoes. But mixed in with that baby powder you begin to smell the notes of tobacco. Fresh but aged, like a good pipe. It smells like my geandfathers reading studio. The powder smell reminds me of old books and the sweetness of my grandfathers unsmoked pipe tobacco in the air. This perfume takes your body heat and uses it, it is amplified from the whisper of a scent to an overpowering memory. The first time I used this perfume I was underwhelmed when first applying and sprayed more, but warning because this EXPLODES with your skin and the heat and it became so overpowering I had to shower. Less is more! Start with one spray and work your way up from there every thirty minutes or so.

The pick of the line, for me. Smooth tobacco, sweetened resin and slight woods. I really liked this scent, and kept sniffing at my right elbow nook when I should've been making H5Ps, and after a half of one hour, I realised that it reminded me of the Lubin scent I already owned -- Akkad. It has the same DNA, the same veins and even the same bones. So similar in make, at least to me. I was relieved immediately as I already have too much perfume as it is, and the LAST thing I want to do is buy a bottle that smells like something I already own, but have not uses since 2018 (at the latest). Still good, though. Damn DAMN good.

A lovely sweet woody aromatic composition, here finally is a tobacco based scent that is light and can be worn on a hot summer day. The perfume opens with notes of tobacco blossom, tobacco leaf and slight juniper. The heart is mostly cedar and slight honey . The perfume settles on a sweet powdery bed of musk mallow (ambrette seeds) and tonka bean. A refreshing and invigorating unisex scent that has moderate to strong sillage and good longevity. Enjoy!

I get quite a bit of labdanum and booze with wood more than something tobacco like. It’s a rich warm scent. The wood smells like palo santo. Well crafted and it has more lasting power than some of the other Xinu perfumes, but it smells like a lot of other scents.

As always, with Tobacco, the issue I have time and time again is overdone sweetness. Ummo is no exception. It starts off like so many other tobacco centered scents, you know; that typical tobacco amber, and labdabum combo. Only this has a bitterness to it like pine or wormwood. It’s nice overall, but towards the dry down you start to get that floral and honey nuance intertwined within the composition which I don’t particularly enjoy. Ultimately, becoming powdery and sweeter by the minute, leaning feminine. Kinda smells like that Dior, or a scent Le Labo would produce. You know... safe.

It’s so expensive to I hoped for way more. The quality is here, but the tobacco is yet another old woody, hay-like labdanum tonka and amber with a vanillic, honey backbone. Reminiscent of a lot of things yet somehow I can’t get any names at the top of my head.

I find this fragrance very off-putting. Whatever tobacco note is in it is so wildly unlike an actual tobacco smell that it is repellant. No one who has ever smelled real tobacco would confuse it with this musty honeyed mildewed perfume. The dank and musty sweetness presented here is, in no way, fresh. I am baffled by other reviews. To my nose this is certainly NOT a fresh tobacco smell. I do not consider it to even faintly resemble tobacco, and I seriously wonder if any reviewers here have ever smelled real tobacco - like breaking open a cigar and smelling it. I had to scrub this stuff off after a while just to be rid of it. Very disappointing.

I agree with Dentish. I know it’s not listed but I smell sandalwood in the base and it makes the whole thing off putting.

my biggest regret was not buying this full size when I could in Mexico City. this is the perfect smell to me. it smells like the carved effigy or wooden tool of an ancient but ever-present desert sea being...... tobacco offering .... winking

Mezcal smoke, dry landlocked air, tobacco hydrated by honey, antique wood furniture, candles in ofrendas. The color brown set amid an explosion of color. Evenings in Mexico City. Blended to perfection.

This reminds me of Arquiste Nanban, also by Rodrigo Flores-Roux. This is smoother, rounder, and softer, where Nanban is a heavy-hitter.
