American Psycho

*Edit* After sitting on this for a couple days and wondering why I found this scent to be so familiar...I have to say this is basically nothing more than a dupe of Jazz Club by Maison Margiela. I want to say it smells 90% the same but American Psycho is a bit more peppery. All the notes that Xyrena states are in this...I haven't the faintest clue where they came up with that. Lol. Regardless, this scent does smell incredible but I would say, if you want this...do yourself a favor and just go pay a lot less money for Jazz Club instead. Because the only reason why this costs $120, in my opinion, is because it comes in fancy/creative packaging and because it's a licensed collaboration so they can use the American Psycho branding/image/name. This is straight-up just Jazz Club. I'm not mad or anything, I just wish this truly did have the accords that Xyrena claims are in this. This seems to be a common complaint I've seen with the company, I've seen many people online say that Xyrena's descriptions of their fragrances can sometimes be complete lies. I will say...the main differences I notice is the dry down is sweeter with Jazz Club and American Psycho lasts on skin much, much longer. Yeah, the more I smell this and compare with my bottle of Jazz Club, the more I insist this is a Jazz Club dupe. */Edit* This smells amazing. It's an addicting scent to me. I get a slightly synthetic, yet smooth, spice and tobacco...with something quietly floral and woody peeking through the blinds (possibly the lavender and sandalwood). It's very heavy on the cigar tobacco note and I didn't get any of the supposed sorbet, chardonnay, or herbal-mint notes in the top note. Then again, this is just my initial impression after spraying it two times on the back of my hand. It's possible it's all here and I'm just unable to parse each note individually because they all blend well together. This isn't harsh to me at all but I did go noseblind to it from smelling it too many times on the back of my hand, haha. I'd say this is very appropriate for being worn in the evening, in chillier weather, and it's inoffensive enough to be worn in an office environment. Definitely smells like something classy and luxurious from the 80s without being flashy or overwhelming. It's somehow subdued and pronounced at the same time. This is my first exposure to Xyrena and I'm impressed with this! Let's not forget how incredible the mock VHS packaging is, as well as the included replica of Bateman's business card and a faux Blockbuster card (meant to be used as a paper test strip). My order arrived within a few weeks after purchasing, I live about two states away from Texas and shipping time was about 4 days.

+1 * Clean -> [66/100] I don’t know anything about the context of this perfume, but you know it’s yet another banger by Killian Wells that will learn you, for better or worse. Opens up musk clean, but in a lavender, alcoholic manner. Soon, it carries in an amber, sweet, yet faintly sour-woody twist, but in a somewhat unsettling manner (in a perverse way, that he’s out to have his way with you). It’s a direction that No Rules by Jusbox would take, but it’s a preface to the profile rather than a full-blown one. It’s trying to convince you it’s a typical clean frag, but you can barely smell the wine from them, but then you’d figure it’s just their woodsy frag (because the wine note is fleeting). Let’s hope you won’t become a helpless doll like a typical victim in a horror movie. An ambroxan forward, woody, sweet-musk fragrance assisted by the lavender and saffron facets in an artistic fashion that culminates to this sensual interpretation. The mellow florals, and very faint spices were your last hints of warning, as they tell you this isn't his first rodeo. You aren't sure if you should forego this one-night stand.... another absolute banger by Killian Wells. Although I say it's a clean fragrance for myself, you might run into the possibility of getting the "looks" if you use this in an office (not in a bad way, but maybe not one you'd ask for, or maybe you want it...). This stuff lasts literally FOREVER on garment and as such, it's a bang for your buck.

I haven't seen the movie, so this is purely a review of the fragrance. This fragrance is unique; it is dominated by a slightly menthol-leaning mint note. Some notes remind me of Jazz Club, Sauvage, or even Outlands, but the composition as a whole is unique and dynamic. It starts with a fresh white wine and mint note that reminds me of Portuguese Vinho Verde, but with a vanillic base. This evolves to a spicier and aromatic note, still led by the mint, but now covered in an Outlands-like Sichuan Pepper note. This finally ends in a musky-sandalwood base after 10 or so hours of wear. Longevity is insane, but projection is tame, mostly aided by the unique blend. This is a 100% recommend to anyone who wants a minty night-out scent for the warmer months.

I really like this fragrance. 100% encapsulates the vibes I associate with American Psycho. Having read the book and watched the movie, I immediately think of the movie and that's what the fragrance is trying to imitate. The sweetness originally caught me off guard but then the cloves and musk started to come through, which felt like Bateman peeling back the mask a bit, showing his true nature, before the cloves settled a bit but the musk remained. The mask realigned. Love it, definitely worth a full bottle I'd say.

I smell mint most strongly and the wine note is also very noticeable, and something very sweet, probably creme brulee, but to me its more like sweet coconut flakes, maybe because i never tried creme brulee. This is something unique, not for every day use. I like it. 1947UFO I can't compare it to a jazz club since I don't have one but I have several of Xyrena products and their descriptions pretty much match what I can smell, don't judge only by one product :)
