Chique

I haven't smelled this in YEARS ( it used to be in every branch of Boots ) and have never bothered with the Taylor of London one. I picked up a vintage bottle ( og bottle so assuming og formula ) and it was VERY familiar. However, NOT because I know avd love Coriandre or AP. I don't detect anywhere near as much coriander for that . Paloma, yes, more so but not exactly. Then, I clicked, it's Patou 1000 !! I get violet, oakmoss and patchouli. Lots of patchouli. There's even that slight petrol ( gasoline ) note you get from the violet in Fahrenheit . So, it's explains why it's closer to PP then AP ( and why someone mentioned AE - Aromatics Elixir, my other great love ) It's all about the patch and the petrol !! I think it's the same old story, noses are different BUT some are smelling the modern edition If it resembles Coriander I'm absolutely going to give it a go, too. It's just not the Chique I sprayed while trying on the Boots Seventeen lip glosses in 1979. EDIT: The coriander comes through more after a few hours ( and this as a GOOD few hours in it !) but it's still a lot more patch left. Now IF they've removed that.... I'll try the new version and see if the theory holds water. TTFN Ta Ta for Now..... Well, I did. I tried a more recent version . LOTS more coriander. Very much more similar to Coriandre . Whichever you buy, buy it, it's fabulous !! Boy were we able to get incredible perfumes for a few quid back in the 70's and 80's.

Wow, I wore it in the 70s, when I was a child along with Jontue and Charlie, but this was so much powerful, a spritz and you were good for all day and next morning the sheets smelled of it.Oakmoss with some stringent note (fruits? flowers?), in Brazil it was called Frenly, I had 1 bottles that lasted from 78 to 84.

Absolutely my favourite perfume of all time. I am desperate to find it in Australia !!!

Very unusual fragrance that has old bones but could easily pass as the latest concoction from a niche expensive boutique perfumer. At first blast it is in beast mode and you have the overwhelming sensation of worn clothes, worn woollen clothes to be exact. Like old woollen scarves and jumpers that are hanging around at the back of the wardrobe which you unearth once a year from the mothballs and dried forgotten memories. Then comes the earthiness which borders on fleshiness, so you can smell the body of the wearer of the old woollens. If I haven't lost you yet and you are staying around for the second part, the heart of this mystery.. there is that pungent and sharp punch of the scent of a fully ripe and polleny lily head. There is something about lilies that smells as though they are on the verge of rotting, there is that sickly intensity of flower headiness crying out to the bees to fulfil its' own reproduction. So old woolens, flesh and lilies. If unusual 'experience' perfumes are your thing then this will be your ticket to this oddball ride (in the vein of Caboutine, Jontue, Eden) For most other people who want to smell something like 'normal' you will probably say 'bleurgggh'! And more than once.

Oh this is an interesting lil perfume...really sets a scene in your mind when smelling it. Definitely tells a story from a time. I originally got the talc of this and it smelt dated...when I say that I mean it in a positive way. Reminded me of a deodorant for an older man. I've just treated myself to the perfume/cologne and oh boy...it's making me feel fuzzy...in a good way. So I'm weird. I love the smell of old people. This perfume nails that scent on the head. I never had a Grandma or Grandpa about but this scent is them if I did. It has that soapy, powdery quality to it in the most comforting way. I wouldn't call it a fresh scent...maybe it was back in the day...but it's sharp. A classic scent but not glam. Gives me the same comfort as a lavender or rose scent but it also has this masculine undertone which is prolly the oak moss. Definitely not for a person that doesn't appreciate older perfumes.

This fragrance has its loyal fans, and I’m not surprised. It is constructed along the lines of a chypre, with a bitter, burnt mossy-aldehydic opening, giving way to a billowy, musky cloud of rose-heavy florals, and a sandalwood drydown. The fragrance evokes images of a grown-up, graying SJP Lovely in severe black 1920s garb. I missed Chique in its heyday, unfortunately, and now only have the 50ml concentrated cologne spray from Taylor of London, but that's good enough. Despite the utilitarian packaging, and the substitution, no doubt, of cheaper materials, and a lightness and sketch-like simplicity in its development, I can smell how good the composition was, when this was among Yardley's prestige fragrances in the 70s. But it's definitely worth a try, as is, in its present form. Count me among its admirers.

This scent was my signature scent in my thirties- mmm, sophisticated scent with long moss tail- driving my hubby crazy :)) - a MUST have it again. EDIT May 2011: After some years I own it again. It is classy, mature, it is my Cheapy personal Chanel No.5.

Definitely smell patchouli, even though it is not listed in the fragrantica notes above. Very strong & long-lasting.

I think is my favourite scent of all time, although the Taylor of London version I have seems pared down compared to the rounded, warm, heady fragrance I recall my mother wearing in the 80s. Still, it is a gorgeous fragrance, citrus, green, woody and, on my skin at least, dries down to an extremely powdery base, which I do like, but the initial burst is what draws me to keep wearing. I detect some notes similar to Paloma Picasso, which I adore, but Chique is much more linear - perhaps more like a distant cousin than a sibling. It is strong and lasts about 5 hours on me, pretty decent for a bargain basement perfume! I will keep an eye on Ebay for an original Yardley bottle just to see if it fills in the blanks left by the latest formulation.

If you don't look at the packaging you would not think this a cheap perfume! I wore this as a teenager and loved it, and then by chance saw it in an old chemist shop. I bought it for my teenage daughter who also loved it. I pinched it back! I am always complimented on this perfume, especially by men. Women friends always ask me what it is, I tend to keep quite. One I don't want anyone else to wear it and two, I'm afraid people will think I'm a cheapskate, but you know if this was packaged in a Chanel bottle people would go mad for it. It reminds me of Aromatics by Clinque, another great perfume.

This was my first real perfume which i chose for myself, aged 18. I am obviously a chyphre floral at heart. It was so very special and made me feel very sophisticated. Having just started school in a new country I needed some comfort too. I can still smell this in my mind and will definately try and find again to see if my "nose" has improved with time and trying new perfumes.

Hi! there's something about chique perfume once u use it, no perfume will make sence ever again atleast thats what happened to me. Im in south africa and it has been discontinued n i just cant find anything like it. If theres a scent like it in sa please let me know.

I have worn this for 40 odd years, I was able to buy it from England but now with the new air regulations I am unable to do so. Does anyone have any idea or know where I could buy it in Australia? Anything else that smells like it that I could buy here? thanks

My mom's signature "evening" perfume for as long as I can remember! It is distinct, strong and surprisingly sophisticated for a cheaper scent. Very nostalgic for me.

This is so so beautiful. So nature and wild smelling yet sexy comfort in the mix! I am a fan now. Good values on ebay if you are hunting for a rich original one.

It smells great and classy! This perfume can be easily used by gentlemen as it isn't completely feminine.

Chique...was my loved půarfum from 20-36... Since, I can t find it. Really sorry I miss this scent.
