English Lavender Contemporary Edition

Clean, elegant, uncomplicated, straightforward...simply timeless. If you're looking for pure lavender, look elsewhere. This is a whole herbarium of lavender, sage, chamomile, dried bergamot peel, violet and patchouli with a dash of vanilla for sweetness. Aromatic to the max. Soapy. Clean laundry smell, in the best kind of way! Definition of Unisex. I can imagine using this to freshen up the linen as well P.s. the juice in the bottle I have is crystal clear like the old version (or what they now call the original English lavender), yet the notes on the box match the ones here . It was made in England but it's from an older batch I was able to discover hidden away in the back self of a local beauty store. I don't know if that's a different version or something, just thought I'd let you know

Despite the harsh reviews here, I actually really like this fragrance! It doesn't smell very strongly of lavender, but that doesn't make it any less pleasant. It definitely smells like violet and sage, which gives it a very nostalgic scent. It reminds me a lot of walking through my grandmother's garden as a child. My one complaint is that it doesn't last very long and you have to reapply frequently, but it's cheap enough that it isn't a big deal.

Lie back and think of England. Love this for sleeping - mellow powdery, cosy. This has opened my tastes to other powdery fragrances. I will probably have this for life.

Fluffy lavender powder with a hint of sweetness and sage. Beautiful and comforting, I can't stop repurchasing this.

I like to spray my sheets with this. It's homely.

I really like this fragrance. It's basically a skin scent, and it won't last forever on your skin, but it is comforting and relaxing to wear. It's not really a strong lavender. I would definitely say that it's mixed with other soft floral notes, but its pretty. I bought a bottle off of the internet for a song. I wouldn't spend a fortune on this perfume, but if you can get it for the right price, I think it's worth trying. It reminds me of the Love's Baby Soft Lavender perfume from when I was in Junior High School. I think this makes a nice bedtime scent. This perfume is also cruelty-free. Definitely worth checking out.

I haven't tried the older version of English Lavender, so I can't compare. But I have lavender in my garden and love the special scent. This EdT smells OK to begin with, like a garden with different flowers; one of them lavender. So yes, there is lavender in the mix, but it competes with many other scents right from the start. The little lavender there is very soon disappears and you're left with a strange "flowery" scent mixed with patchouli and sandal wood and finally with just the woodsy notes. Not very pleasant to me, and not at all what I expected from a EdT called English Lavender. Won't buy it again.

This is a fresh, clean and herbal easy-to-wear frag. Lavender-y and soapy. I will wear it during this autumn as an everyday frag. I will mostly layer it with L'Erbolario Iris, which is sweet and powdery. It mostly performs like an EDC rather than EDT. So, don't expect longevity or sillage... This frag was created in 1873!!! Queen Elizabeth II used to wear this. With today's standards this can be worn by both sexes. I like it!

Powdery floral all the way, violet is really dominant here. Unlike classic Yardley English Lavender, this is actually violet with other accompanying notes. The Original was more unisex and truly aromatic, this is a modern interpretation in which lavender is almost invisible. If I could choose, I would definitely choose the classic English Lavender.

Palmolive Absolute Relax shower gel (purple). Lavender + vanilla + (after an hour) nice freesia? note. It reminds me also fragrance of Avon's lavender shower gel from the 90s (97,98) in a thin hangable purple bottle. English Lavender is a little bit more "cologney" (due to salty notes - patchouli and eucalyptus).

It smells natural, clean and soapy. Like fresh laundry. I love it!

I love the scent of lavender, If I were to pick a few of my my most beloved fragrance notes lavender would definitely be among them. I've been in love with this aroma ever since I was a little kid and got a whiff of a little lavender pouch my parents kept in the wardrobe. Man, that scent was magical back then... it still is! It's funny, but this particular kind of lavender (think those cheap, moth-repellent potpourri baggies you can get at Ikea) is still my favorite, my benchmark for how a beautiful lavender note should smell like. English Lavender by Yardley is unfortunately not that. I think the best words to describe this fragrance would be floral and shampooey. There is a whispy lavender note floating around here (somewhat reminiscent of that anisy, baby wipey, sweet & powdery lavender in histoires the parfums' 1725), but it is somewhat lost in the midst of the dominant floral accord. To my nose this accord consists primarily of clary sage, chamomile, geranium, violet and eucalyptus (and ofc lavender). I bunch all of these notes together 'cause it really feels like someone pulverized all of these herbs & flowers in a mortar and somehow infused a cheap shampoo with the resulting fragrance. Cheap because this scent is a bit thin and plasticky (and not plasticky in a pleasant, sexy way). It's not necessarily screechy, but it's not exactly smooth and elegant either. Some people mention the bergamot opening, but I don't pick up any citrus in this thing, nor does it evolve in any significant way on my skin - It's most intense in the beginning and then just slowly fades away. The performance is not very good. The scent does actually stick to the skin for a few hours, but it quickly becomes a skin scent, only the wearer will be able to pick it up. You probably could pull this off year-round, although personally I would go for something a bit fresher in the summer. Obviously it's pretty silly to gender fragrances, but I think for most people this would come off as decidedly more feminine, in no small part due to that girls' shampoo vibe. English Lavender is fine. It's not very good, but it's not particularly bad. It's alright. It's also very affordable, so if You're looking for a cheap floral freshie this might do it for You. I'll use up my bottle, but I don't see myself ever repurchasing this.

this stuff kinda smells like weed, dried lavender, fresh sage and shaving cream. little sister loves it. idk how people find this perfume "weak" bc this stuff lasts for days on my clothes Reminds me of the potted herbs my mom and I grow in the summer. coming back to this, the scent is just too masculine for me, it reminds me of my father's soap. It's undoubtedly vintage smelling, with its powdery aromatic notes, but it just doesn't really go with me. I gifted it to my sister, who wears it just about every day. She loves unisex scents, and aromatic scents, so I'm glad this giant 4 oz bottle didn't go to waste. I can't help but be reminded a tiny bit of marijuana when I smell this though, which is just as well, because she adores that scent too.

At first I was disappointed because I assumed that Yardley's "English Lavender" would smell strongly of Lavendula Augustafoliar - English Lavender. But as it doesn't, I read the ingredients. Once I saw that it is a floral AND herbal AND woody EDT, I could accept this as the nice, inoffensive but fairly bland fragrance it is. I think I need to blend it with other fragrances to really make something of it. As I said, it's nice, but really doesn't have much personality. Edit - fellow Fragrantican suggests layering it with salty noted fragrances which also have aromatic notes. That did help. Yardley English Lavender layers well with Balanciaga B Skin, Cabotine Eau Vivide and Dior Homme Intense

It is just an average lavender perfume. I think it's a great base for layering. Lavender is strong. Powdery and doesn't last long. I think there are better lavender perfumes out there but if you're on a budget this is a good start. I've seen it for £10 when on offer.

An exceptionally delicate lavender, touched with a slightly vintage, dusty quality. Its projection and longevity are so minimal that it resembles more an ephemeral scent from a wardrobe where old lavender sachets were once kept alongside clothing.

This is not a particularly accurate lavender scent at all as far as I'm concerned. And I do concern myself when it comes to lavender...quite a lot. I do tend to be a lavender snob, but I've grown up around it and it's a huge deal where I'm from (there's even a "Lavender Festival" near where I live annually). I didn't set out to test this, but the opportunity presented itself. If you would assume this to be a soapy, herbal, but a contrived "lavender" you'd be correct. It's a *body product* type of scent, almost like bath salts or some sort of generic hand lotion. Something that comes in green-washed packaging, looks like it would be naturalistic, but smells utterly unlike real essential oils. Like, generic off-brand products you get in a gift basket from your inlaws. I actually think more vanilla would've helped soften this, but it's not apparent to me at all. There's something oddly harsh about this. This isn't *awful*, and I think it could be a nice ambient scent, maybe for a room spray. I just didn't enjoy wearing it.

The contemporary version of this fragrance is not as good as the notes suggest. Definitely has the baby wipe vibe. The lavender is the soapy clean kind, and the bergamot is fairly strong at the start. It is also very powdery. I love powdery lavender scents, but this one just isn't very good.

Its ok. Not great, but passable. Though I wont buy this perfume again, I finish the bottle. * Longevity is weak. 1,5 - 2 hours top. * Lavender is strong. * No fresh notes * Too much patchouli and violets. Smells like sweet (outdated) powder. P.S. guess I've got the new formula
