The opening is a lovely modern peppery and masculine. But it doesn’t stay that way. This smells very sophisticated on my husband. On his skin it dries to a woody, spicy and autumnal. Like Joop Homme. I loved it on him so I decided to wear it to bed when he was away. On my skin it was more ambery and slightly sweet; like a 90s night, ladies perfume. Think the original Samsara (red bottle) or D&G Pour Femme. Vanilla, Sandalwood and Amber/Musk. I think both men and some women can wear this scent. I say some women as I think it takes confidence. It’s not a young girl’s scent.

#1113 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I've had this scent in an for several years and I pull it off the shelf from time. I like "Classic", "Urbane" "Suave", and yes they are old school, barbershop blue collar scents like the Oscar de la Renta, Bogart, Lapidus, Yves de Sistelle, and every now and again I find these "mature" scent comforting. No one will ever think you're wearing something unisex, let alone feminine. You notice in the "people also like listings" Cool Water, Zino, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Drakkar, Aramis, all that same vibe. Spicy, woody, musky. For a really cheap fragrance the performance is surprising, but inoffensive. You can wear this in tight spaces, but they might ask you if you stole your dad's aftershave. It's unfortunate these classic scents get ignored because they speak to a bygone era. But everything old is new again eventually.

Yardley Gentleman Classic... ...is definitely a fragrance on the sweeter side. The opening is a bit harsh but so are openings of many fragrances. The first half of it's lifespan it reminds me of a combination of Nikos Sculpture and Remy Latour Cigar Blue. It evolves into a creamy powdery soft white chocolate base with a flower dust on top. The Yardley Gentleman Line can be named the British Jacques Bogart because the quality, and longeivity for the money paid is absolutely great.
