Yardley Original

There seems to be much debate on whether the 1992 version of Original is somewhat modernized version of the original (yes, amusingly redundant) from the 60s, or is it the 70s? Even that is uncertain it seems, but what is certain to my nose is that the version I own, which allegedly the one from 1992, does smell like it could very well have been from the 60s. Bitter neroli, a bracing whiff of lavender, a quenching and sour chypre feel, rounded off with creamy, ambery sandalwood. While polite—it is after all Yardley—it does have character, having a polished texture that does elicit images of a sartorial Englishman on Carnaby Street resisting the pressure to truly let his hair down (or grow long). There is something refreshing about cleansing the palate with such a direct and traditional scent after such a long rendezvous with modern releases. I think I will wear this should I have a movie marathon on films set in Swinging London.

This is the essence of 60's London in a bottle --- the British Invasion of smell instead of sound. The after shave and cologne have slightly different formulas --- the After Shave is mostly lavender, with touches of bergamot, woods and vanilla, but very unobtrusive. The cologne opens with a sparkling mixture of lavender, bergamot and orange blossom, settling down through touches of amber, sandalwood and spices, all tied together with vanilla. It's a light, fresh fragrance, with none of the artificial chemical "fresh" notes that seem to be used so heavily in modern scents. I'm guessing the composition is mostly natural ingredients, and being from 60's England, it's somewhat reserved and polite, but with a cheeky sense of fun about it too. An absolute classic, and I'm glad to see it's finally available again --- hope they've kept the original formula!

got it! how smelling it again brings the memory back :) it smells how i remember it again. sweet spicy citrus & very ambery. not a power house but it will stay on your skin for a long time. good personal scent bubble my wife says she could smell it from 2 feet and that was about 5 hrs after i sprayed it, £12.95 what a bargain. maybe a backup bottle. office safe. very clean smelling. this used to be my signature many years ago. in fact about 40 years ago. how time flys! if this was a beast it would be one of those timeless classics, still a relevant smell unlike some of the other old school frags.. glad yardley are here again and so pleased to re-aquant with a loverly old friend. backup bottle i think as i can see me doing some overspraying to soak up some of the nostalgia

Having used multiple bottles of this scent, I can confirm that this is a great blend of lavender-vanilla/tonka(One of the best in this price range). The only complaint on this one is that it needs maturation(2-3 weeks atleast) and even then the performance is moderate 4-6 hours on skin and disappears completely when it reaches a 8 hours mark at max(which is expected for an EDT) Especially a fall/winter/early spring scent but can be pulled off everyday on all weather as a signature scent..Abso_fuckin_lutely Great scent. Such a premium smell and for the price this scent gets a solid 8.88/10. NOTE; Sadly, This scent is discontinued now and a limited stocks remain afloat in the market. Best of luck finding this gem.

I had this back in the early 90s and in fact it was 1992 when this frag came out and i got it as a xmas present from my ex wife , i loved it. I wonder if its the same stuff ? ill be honest not sure about 1 million smelling. think it was more sweetish citrus but not like the sweetness that is on sale today. hope its the same as the reviews look good ish. unfortunaley yardley had gone down the pan by the time my bottle ran out and i just could not find anywhere :( got to get it i think :)

Rightly claimed, Creed Santal is a clone of this legendary scent in a bottle. Timeless bliss at a hard to believe price. 100ml is $15!! Longevity n all is average, but I dont care about it at this price point. Still a high quality frag without smelling synthetic. Excellent addition to the collection. This stuff is fantastic, dry down is outrageously good. Blind Buy worthy. Way under valued

#468 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Absolutely nothing here to not like except the EDT level performance. If this were an EDP I would have absolutely kept it and worn it, but doesn't last till lunchtime and it's being donated.

The original Yardley for Men, (with the black/terracotta/ gold Y on the box) is a completely different fragrance, based around a beautiful creamy lavender. I cannot comment on the version shown in the photo, but the notes are definitely very different.

What is pictured here is not the traditional, older formulation. Has been reformulated under the old name. Some of these reviews, misleadingly, seem to be referencing the older formula.

Beautiful perfume with decent longevity, you will get decent projection as well if you over spray a bit. Blind buy worthy. Not going to offend anyone.
