Thallium Black

I needed 20 more bucks in my cart for free shipping so I took a chance on this one. I have already tried the Original Thallium and it was way over the top too sweet. It smelled exactly like candy and it was just too much for me. I think that this flanker got it right. Its still still smells sweet, but I think the swap for plum in Thallium Black really is what sets this apart from the original. I can also pick up some spicy musky notes after the dry down so its not that cloying. It's one of the few fragrances that I actually noticed evolving over the day. I have used 5-6 sprays and I get about 12+ solid hours of performance. The musky notes take over after about a couple of hours. I would avoid using this in the summertime unless you limit your sprays. I think it might be too much. Today its been in the 40's-50s and its performance is made for the cold/cool weather so save it for October-February or a night out. You might be able to pull it off at work if you work inside, but don't over do it My wife has been going crazy over this one so that's a plus

I had heard this is a great cheapie and finally tried today. Very complex scent that I enjoyed a lot. Quite sweet but in an opulent way. I feel like this smells a lot more sophisticated than a cheapie could possibly smell. I was surprised to see so many people saying it smells like an old man. Funny how one person's old man is a fantastically modern smell. I think I have cracked the code. Young person smell = super fruity and sweet, fun, carefree. Old man smell = mossy woodsy aromatic fougere, deep, complicated. This falls somewhere in between, but that is probably where the old man assertions come from. I personally find it surprisingly good.

I love this cologne, especially for the $20 I paid for it. I don't get a candied vibe out of Thallium Black at all...The original Thallium in the light blue bottle, now that one is a sweet, hard candy type, teen smelling fragrance and I dislike it very much. But Thallium Black is legit. To me, if Creed's Aventus smells like smokey pineapple, then Thallium Black smells like smokey plum. It smells very natural and high quality considering it's cheap price.

#74 in my "Tour de Fragrance" of 250 scents in 250 days, and another of the "30 under $30" I've chosen, and this one's a winner that I can wear every day, to the office, on a date, with confidence. My first scent with a distinct nutmeg and cardamom dry down and I love it! If it were the only scent I could have, I would be content.

This just takes spicy to another Dynamic level One reviewer below said they had smelled incense in this and I have to agree It almost has an unsmoked shisha intensity about it Also and I find this to be a pleasant surprise And it won't be easy finding the long-lost twin of this

This is a fragrance that bares the DNA of the original Thallium. That means that I can see this coming from that house. I do not ascribe to synthetic and natural smells to advise a purchase, because I smelled great natural & synthetic compositions that get many compliments. Thallium Black, just like the original Thallium, has a synthetic vibe in the opening. Not surprising since thallium itself is an element "not found in free nature", according to its definition. What it smells like? I get a slight vibe of a "well blended oakmoss", but not because of smell!!! It is because you can immediately sense the potential of good longevity & projection (6 hrs noticeable) that oakmoss has done for many classics through time. Big plus!! Projects 2 hrs well with 5 sprays. Lol I know that's a lot. I over spray lol. That smell of "oakmoss strength not smell" seems to becoming from the clary sage and basil accord. The plum and green apple is present through the whole scent life. The cardamom, nutmeg, patchouli, and geranium gives the depth. All other notes are not glaringly evident. **This is akin to Jaguar Classic Gold--another inexpensive gem. Not exactly the same, but they have similarities. This is better hands down! YMMV. The plum does give a dried fruit vibe. Not linear. Dual layer of scent. Fruit and herb vibe first...then a dried fruit patchouli cardamom vibe at the dry down. For the price 5/5 overall. $15 approx. I picked this up as a blind buy because it was on special, and I'd never heard of it. All in all not too bad at all. There is definitely plum here, but it's not really smoky or sweet. This is a masculine, herbal, bordering on green plum. There is a touch of sweetness, and a herbal bitterness that work together quite well. The tonka and nutmeg form a nice, slightly buttery background chord that prevents the whole thing from becoming shrill and harsh. I think this is a fragrance for men who aren't looking to feel like they just stepped out of a sterilising booth, but also don't want to smell like they've been rolling in dirt, leaves and flowers. There's no rot to the plum, and very little darkness. It's an even, polite plum that neither overwhelms nor fades into oblivion. In short, there's fruits that aren't too sweet, green herbs that aren't too bitter and a smooth, warm base that's not too smoky or dry. A safe fragrance for spring and autumn, day or night. Not much to take offence to, but then, not much to fall in love with either. Not every fragrance has to be a nuclear assault on the senses, sometimes it's nice to wear something mellow and polite. Longevity is surprisingly good, sillage is polite but appropriate for something clearly aimed at a male market. Price is excellent, easily smells of something twice or three times the cost.

@Pinnacos I don't think the bottle is / was supposed to be a pepper grinder..lol, but rather a classic barber pole that you would see spinning outside old fashion barbershops. The message; "Here is a great gentlemen's barbershop scent offering!". And THAT it is.. Great cheapie with quality on par with Bogart, Krizia, Quorum, Claiborne, etc. My fav part is the funky woody green sharpness I get from what I presume to be the oakmoss/patchouli/cedar/pine combo. Something reminds me of Burberry London, when I get a whiff from under my clothing in that respect. Totally different effect that it's aroma directly off off of skin...as with most fragrances. Great longevity/sillage for this price. 9/10

Haven't worn Thallium Black in a good long while. The Nutmeg and Cardamon jump rite at you and bites you in the face, followed by the apple, plum, amber and musk. The bergamot comes out in the end, but is there less prominently in the opening. The Clary Sage is definitely in the latter stages of the opening along with the geranium following, but it too, comes rite with the bergamot. A well priced, nice edt. Very easy to wear. More of an evening wear. Very pleasant, not overwhelming or overpowering. Longevity is impressive, sillage is respectable. I would recommend Thallium Black.

I FINALLY was able to test this today. I certainly get the awesome plum note, and as it dried down, I was surprised how much it smelled like Hanae Mori HM. I think TB is better than HM, and for $20 (or less), you could certainly do a LOT worse. I can smell that "rotten" something, but I don't think it's the plum. (I suspect the geranium.) Still worth a sniff!

A good mix between Ungaro III (open) and Paco Rabanne Black XS (dry down). Performance 8h+, projection 2-3h. For 30+ men only. Affordable price. As a blind buy, I would recommend it.

In fact, there isn't much fruit @all, just a spicy oakmoss fragrance. ****************************************** Smell like Salty Planter's Peanut Jar ****************************************** There is a lot of SPICE in Thallium Black. I think NUTMEG + CARDAMON + BASIL + SAGE really give it a SPICY kick to the fragrance. When I spray it on my skin. It smell like I just open a fresh box of Planter's Peanut . It smell very DRY, kind of salty too. 3 words Summery = MATURE SPICY & DRY Best suited for 40/50/60/70+ years older man ****************************************************************** Smell like Jaguar Amber with better Performance ****************************************************************** Thallium Black = denser version of Jaguar Amber. Both give me the same Mature Dry Nutty smell, but Tallium Black project further and last longer, but also cost $5~$7 more. Jaguar Amber is like a lighter version of Thallium Black but $5 cheaper.

Thallium Black is both a spicy and slightly sweet perfume. There is an underlying bitterness about it that doesn't work for me. The clerk told me it was a quintessential substitute for Spicebomb. I think not.

Opens nicely with the apple, but drys down into a patchouli mess that smells downright ridiculous, dirty and unkempt. Not worth your money

I tried Thallium a few years ago and didn't want to smell like candy, so I didn't think this line would work for me. However, I saw the Black flanker at a good price and figured I'd give it a shot, since the notes and reviews looked promising. It definitely doesn't smell that much like Pure Malt, and in fact I'd say it's more like a toned down, more natural smelling Kokorico. However, it is unique enough so that it doesn't seem to be directly inspired by any particular scent. There's a bit of B*Men and Michael for Men by Kors as well, but again, just a minor connection. This is not too sweet, and you get the plum and spice. There's a touch of something that seems woody, along with a mild geranium note. Sure, this will seem somewhat "synthetic" compared to the most natural smelling niche scents of this type, but it's excellent for the price range and the reason why I try these low cost scents is that I'd like to have the option of selling or swapping more expensive ones, and in this case I think I can! UPDATE: The patchouli is quite strong in the far drydown, not what I expected from a "cheapo," so aside from the slightly "synthetic" half hour or so, this has a niche-like quality! UPDATE #2: I layered this with Spark Seduction Men and created a Michael Kors for Men (original) effect - I prefer it to the Kors' scent, actually !

Drakkar Noir + Burberry London... that's what I'm getting from this. There's a bunch of absolute BANGERS in the "Smells like" section, so I was super excited for this one! I was really hoping the plum would be more fruity and sweet, but unfortunately that's not the case here... I'm a huge fan of Black XS, and this might even smell similar, but the trademark texture of Black XS is missing here. Instead, to me, this smells like Drakkar Noir meets Burberry London. Still, this is good, but it might not be one I'd reach for often... this assessment is from the first 3 sprays from the bottle, so we'll see if it opens up as time goes on. Update: it has gotten a TINY bit sweeter, but it's nothing like Black XS to me. It smells like a less sweet Lattafa Asad to me, which is supposed to be a Sauvage Elixir clone. For those looking for a cheapie in the Black XS L'Excess vein, that's sweeter and more fruity than this, with that tradmark Black XS texture, try Armaf Italiano Uomo NERO (black bottle).

This seems completely synthetic, top to bottom. It's a dark, fruity type of smell with something spicy and exotic on the lower end. This exotic portion I am referring to is a bit like the dupes of Polo Supreme Oud that I have. There is also a similar piney-citrus note that I've observed in Versace Dylan Blue and the Sauvage dupes that I've purchased. I'd put Thallium Black in the "Popular" fragrance genre. It's a nice scent; a good combination of safe and interesting. I would say "dark" is a good way to describe it. I'm a Gen X, rocker type guy who wears dark colors. It's an excellent safe scent for me, one I feel is current and in good taste. The performance is on the lower end of average. And since it's so synthetic, I can get sick of it some days. Still, I find it stylish, easy to wear and likable. For the money, I think it is excellent. I would be inclined to buy others under the Thallium name.

Blind bought this last fall on the recommendations of some reviewers that I trust. Glad I did! $17.99 on Amazon, what a deal. Thalium black opens with a blast of green apple that lasts the whole time. After a bit, the cardamom, amber, patchouli and musk break through. All of this really mimics a Thierry Mugler scent but brighter due to the green apple. This fragrance is awesome. It's fall again and this is the time to wear it. Something about it really suits itself to the holiday season. Its a compliment getter too if ur into that sort of thing. Me.... I just care about what the wife thinks of it. Safe to wear to work as well but be careful on the trigger, 2 sprays, it's strong. So price vs quality.... Excellent value! I would say that if you like Varvatos Vintage, Burberry-london or Pure Malt, u would thoroughly enjoy this.
