Cuir de Nuit

A Nice Surprise Like a Jewel in a Plain Encasement So, today I had the opportunity to test the new Yves Rocher La Collection Parfums, I immediately wanted to head for the one with leather and vanilla notes first and my intuition was confirmed: Cuir de Nuit Eau de Parfum is a surprising perfume and it has that interesting aspect I look for in a perfume. Cuir de Nuit is far from leathery, rather it is all too vanillic. The vanilla you get here is neither the gourmand one nor the bourbon one, not cloying, not cheeky, rather a flowery, woody and smoky vanilla. And the Cuir in the name is just a leather subtlety of this kind of vanilla, there are no leathery notes here. Delicious I would say. Among the other Eau de Parfum Collection's items, this is the most captivating and original one. All of the scents are bottled in a plain and minimal bottle, with transparent and thick glass and a heavy base, the juice of this cologne is a pale violet. This scent evokes me as much in the afternoons by the fireplace to enjoy a cake still hot with a cup of tea as in the elegant dark interiors where leather and raw wood would have a place of choice. It greats you with a blast of the grassy and sour accord, also has a slight boozy sweet feeling. There is something akin to terebinth, to some extent reminiscent of the smell of mango. In a while, the beauty of the wild pink pepper kicks in and gives off a pleasant, penetrating smell. In perfumery, its essence fragrance is sought after for its delicacy and is particularly enjoyed when it enhances floral harmony. Soft and sweet with a feminine characteristic, its welcoming aroma invites the nature enthusiast to share. And then appears the chocolate accord, the cocoa is represented here in its natural form and aroma, with all the nuttiness of the fermented cacao pods, here it is bitter, it is dark, it is pure, it is powder, ain't too praline or toffee or brownies as in Mugler Angel or Valentino Uomo, which I adore, but with a dusty feel and a bitterish edge, so if you are chocoholics like me, you will appreciate it. At last, it's all about vanilla, and any of the different facets vanilla can have. The vanilla here has a dark, somewhat dry, woody, and leathery feeling. Cacao makes the dryness more pronounced, and the coffee strengthens the dark feeling of the scent without smelling like strong coffee. In addition to the notes mentioned, I also smell something that reminds of lavender and cedarwood in here. I think the combination of Tahitian vanilla and cacao is the culprit, together they create a chocolate liqueur accord, to my nose anyway. It's a good fragrance, a very good one. Well made and long-lasting. I've had it on for about 8 hours now, and it's still quite prominent. But at the end of the day, it's just vanilla. I haven't smelled this type of vanilla fragrance before. It does say much to me, so it feels not redundant for me. This perfume is a nice surprise, like a jewel in a plain encasement. The vanilla here is incredibly well done, so elegant, powdery, even leathery! Also, accompanied by the right amount of cacao, pink pepper and just a hint of coffee, it stays creamy till the end. A perfect treat for the wintertime, and long-lasting too. In my opinion, it is a safe bet, a fragrance with character and timeless, and I see it well worn with a thick woolen fabric and a leather jacket a little rock, innocuous for wearing at the office. On the outfit side, nothing to complain about. I like the fact that it is not heady from the start but that it remains stable throughout the day with a tendency towards the vanilla-musk side at the end of the day. This perfume is a nice favorite, in the same collection I also really liked Sable Fauve but I reserve it for the next days!

Cuir is a really nice surprise, like a jewel in a plain setting. I'm saying this because I find that the package could have been more imaginative, more inspired for such a good fragrance. The vanilla here is incredibly well done - buttery, powdery, even leathery! Also, accompanied by the right amount of cacao, pink pepper and just a hint of coffee, it stays creamy till the end, with some dried fruit and woody facets to it. This powdery-sweet Oriental has an amazing longevity - after 12 hours the ever-soothing vanilla is still present on my skin. While wearing this, I imagine myself sitting in front of a fireplace in a cozy living room with a lovely fall landscape, holding a warm cup of cocoa and reading a book... A cozy mystery would go perfectly with this perfume (Hannah Swensen series by Joanne Fluke is the first one that comes to mind).🙂 I also think Cuir is more on the feminine side. Not really unisex IMO. Note 1: This is not a leather fragrance, even though the name suggests that and the vanilla here has a slight leathery quality to it. So beware if you're not a vanilla fan. Note 2: This perfume turns purple in time, no matter the storage conditions. Perfumes in general change color with time, some sooner than others, depending on their ingredients; but, as I've noticed, this phenomenon doesn't necessarily affect their scent/performance.

I am a big fan of Orientals and vanillas, so I really like this so far. It reminds me a tiny bit of other Yves Rocher discontinued fragrances such as Neonatura Cocoon (without the patchouli) and my beloved Nature Millenaire, my signature scent for years. In this, I can only pick out the different notes in the very beginning because it is so smooth and well-mixed. Although "Cuir" is right in the title, it isn't listed in the notes on the Yves Rocher website or here and I personally find very little leather in this. After reading some other reviews, I've learned more about how the leather in Cuir de Nuit probably comes about by a reviewer down below and found that info fascinating - thank you latafan! On me, this is long-lasting and sillage is moderate. It can probably be unisex, although I find it leaning feminine due to its sweetness. I think this would also make a great layering fragrance. As another reviewer, emxlio, mentioned, it is reminiscent of the vanilla in Le Couvent Cologne of the Missions, which I believe is also discontinued.

Bought a 30 ml bottle, because I was so intrigued by this scent. I don't like ultrasweet, syrupy perfumes, like the designer houses seem to pop out on the regular basis these last years, so I was sooo glad that Cuir de Nuit does not fall in that cavity-inducing lot. The sweetness is there, but toned down. Cuir de Nuit is warm, alluring, inviting, and ladylike at the same time. Funny experiment: I sprayed it on my arm and then made myself a cup of coffee. I took a sniff from the cup (who doesn't love the scent of freshly brewed coffee?) and then immediately moved my nose to the spot I had sprayed Cuir de Nuit. The coffee smell enhanced the perfume and made it sparkle and come alive. Try it! I think it will be great in late autumn and in winter. The drydown is wonderful as well. To my nose, the drydown is almost clean smelling, but not in a laundry-type way, but as if I had washed my body with a luxurious shower lotion. Yves Rocher has some really great hidden gems.

I first sampled this fragrance through a traveling European box project, and I recently treated myself to a full bottle. It’s a lovely, warm, and cozy vanilla scent, with sweet cacao lightly dusted with nose-tingling pink pepper, which adds a lively twist to the composition and keeps it from becoming too heavy or one-dimensional. I can see the resemblance to Guerlain’s Spiritueuse Double Vanille and could easily mistake one for the other at a glance, even as I own both. Given its price, technical performance, and thoughtfully balanced composition, it’s an excellent choice for fans of gourmand and vanilla fragrances. I’m even considering a backup bottle, as I suspect it might become highly sought-after if it’s ever discontinued. Edit: Yes, it definitely has that Cacharel Amor Amor vibe upon the initial spray, which isn’t my favorite. Fortunately, it doesn’t linger too long.
