Hoggar

I fell in love today. And had an interesting hour of "olfactory identity split" lol. Smelt it today for the first time ever, had a little test on my skin as well, and as a result was fighting the urge to eat my arm off. I'm a woman. So, when I'm imagining this little gem of a fragrance on a man - he's damn attractive I must say. I'd like to be around this guy all the time - he's warm, masculine, has good manners and a great sense of humour, he doesn't need to prove himself.. coz he's done that already. And these adjectives apply to the frag as well. As for the scent itself. Oriental spicy with a twist that resembles some very distant aldehydes to me. It opened with warm welcoming spiciness. What exactly, difficult to say, perhaps cinnamon, tonka, leather, something resionous possibly. It's dry and sweet in a masculine way. Opium or old spice (bear with me, please! I don't know mens fragrances too well... at all) vibe maybe, a fraction of it. Very beautiful! Then it became more floaty, fresher, "younger" if you will. Perhaps citrusses, something slightly aromatic with better projection. I had the sensation of being in close quarters of a young (some 30 yo), attractive fit active man, it smelt like a male body, irresistible. (Yes, I'm rolling my eyes and fainting for as well as the poor phrasing, as well as the impact it had on me. Yes, sweet sexy sweat is what I mean, yes!) The dry down was interesting. Instead of turning dirty, overbearing mess it developed into a clean even slightly soapy scent with some sweet spicy undercurrents. Could have been aldehydes or a herb. Yet the spiciness is still there. It smwlls like warm clean skin to me. Interesting. Intriguing. Is all I'm gonna say. Want to get closer to him, this kind of sexy is rather rare.

I owned it some years ago. Re-bought it and I'm satisfied with choice made. I think it's the best men perfume from Yves Rocher. I like Cuir Vetiver and Ambre Noir, but I like more Hoggar. As far as I noted, they only changed the bottle (it doesn't have anymore the brown gradient color, but still have the unique shape), but the smell is the same. It doesn't smell at all as 1 Million or Le Male, as some commented below. It smells better than them, ie exceptional! It has a very pleasant aromatic and resinous/balsamic smell, with a strong woody component. To me it seems quite unique and it smells pretty expensive, too. No more synthetic than other more expensive perfumes. ;) Also it DON'T smell like Davidoff Silver (how ppl say) shadow at all. I own both and they are different. Smell - 9/10 Longevity - 8/10 Sillage - 7/10 My overall note - 9/10, a definitely must have.

Did this really only come out in 2005??? I have what looks like a vintage bottle that I bought used online. The graphics and label look so 70's/ very different from the current modern label. Either way its an affordable little gem which is hard to describe. Masculine, but sweetened just a touch by the Tonka. Definitely more of an oriental, warm spicy accord with a bit of sweet woodiness. Its an extremely versatile frag that works through most seasons, and most occasions. Affordable but does not smell cheap or pretentious. An easy blind buy or masculine grab and go frag for any day or occasion.

Yes it's linear, yes it's not surprising. But, is it bad ? No, not at all, this is a great scent ! If you love tonka's smell, get it ! It results a desert / sandy smell, dry and warm. Like an olfactory hug ! The thing is, I don't think this is a perfume for daytime. When you have a huge and tiring work day, with a lot of stress... You know, this bad day that you know more often that you should... Spray it when you back home, with a drink you like, on your couch and voila, you have a perfect warm and invigorating wrap all around you !

Warm/Tonka/Cedar - Soapy/Powdery/Citrus freshness Each and every component of this fragrance can be distinguished. Quite timeless, manly and sophisticated but with a playful touch of sweet sexyness. If you care about compliments this might also be something for you. Projection is quite good actually, while performance mediocre. Still this a great value for your money and an amazing fragrance overall. Having smellt so many frags, this one still holds a special place in my heart.

What a lovely e.d.t. Not - in your face - elegant oriental. The King of this party is Tonka Bean with no doubts. And... Sweet ambery note nicely mixed with warm spices and woody note. I'm not getting much citruses freshness here, but more of comforting cozy, sweet spicy and ambery vibes. Very impressive longevity and silage for this budget creation. Very versatile for daily use. Definitely deserves a better score.

As a huge lover of tonka, this is great combo of mixed notes. It reminds me of Black Suede Touch from Avon (which I actually dont like) but the dry down is better and its not headache inducer. Calmly woody and just some mild fresh sweetness. For everyday use, very good.

guys i tried it yesterday its a wonderful scent and if you love oriental woodies like pi rochas man bvlgari black, Midnight in Paris Van Cleef, YSL la nuit then try this for sure - wonderful smell - cheap only 12 euro 100ml - good quality - lasts long

Very nice scent. cedar /tonka bean. Nice for the colder weather. YR scents are cheap 10 euro 75 ml, but the quality is remarkable good. I love this. And YR uses natural ingredients 8.5/10. fall in a bottle

I love this one. It's very woody and some people told me it is for older men, but I don't think so. For only 12 € (75ml) it was a good investigation.

Best men perfume from yves rocher. Good smell,long last and good price. This is cheap and chic and strong. I love it.

- TL;DR: To me this smells like the definition of "warm spicy". It's aromatic, cozy and warm, a bit woody, while still clean and fresh, and it's undoubtedly masculine. - Background: This is the fragrance that started me on my fragrance journey. It started when I was trying to find a good shower gel scented for men, and I happened to find an Yves Rocher store at a mall, found out that they have products for men, and decided to try a couple of their shower gels. I really enjoyed their Hoggar shower gel, because in contrast to all the other "fresh" scents in regular men's shower gels, Hoggar was more warm, spicy and woody. Not at all like a typical soapy fresh shower gel. I learned what "oriental" meant. Then a while later my dear mother bought me a bottle of Hoggar EdT, and it was the first perfume I started wearing regularly in probably decades. This opened my eyes to the fact that "huh, maybe perfumes aren't so bad after all" and I started exploring the world of fragrances. Since then I have found other perfumes that I enjoy more and wear more often, but this is still the one that started it all for me, and I still enjoy it. I'm wearing it today, in fact. - The scent: I don't get much of a "citrus" from this at all, so I'm surprised that "citrus" is the top rated characteristic here on Fragrantica! I guess I can detect a bit of citrus if I look for it, but it really doesn't stand out as a citrus scent to me, especially not in the drydown, and especially compared to most other citrus fragrances out there. It's a little bit sweet, the slight vanilla vibe of the tonka brings a nice and cozy warmth, ant the aromatic woody base makes it feel mature and masculine. The vibe reminds me a little bit of my dad, who used to wear Obsession for men back in the 80s and 90s. This is a really nice scent with a really affordable price-tag. Definitely recommended for any mature man who doesn't want to smell like all the rest of the "blue" fragrances out there.

This is my second fragrance from YR, was I'm amazed and agree that this is DEFINITELY a hidden GEM. I like the aroma of tonka beans with a real genuine aroma of ceder giving it a real woodsy/powdery warm vib. As it settles I'm able to smell just a whiff of citrus. I really like the overall fresh spicy/woodsy notes, PERFECT for the fall and winter months. Both longevity and Silage are very high quality lasting well past 8hrs on my skin. I noticed with the other reviews it lasts regardless of your skin type. My final throughs, I'm still shocked that this truly amazing fragrance only cost me 9.99usd. I couldn't even buy cheap generic stuff for this price. If you want a real attractive fall/winter aromatic fragrance without having to emptying your account...HOGGAR from YR IS DEFINITELY THE ONE. To be honest I bought 2 just over 20used. You can't find this kinda quality fragrance anywhere near this price. I'm going to say it...this frag is darn SEXY AND ATTRACTIVE. I LOVE THIS fragrance. Try it, you'll be surprised how good it is. Rating this frag is definitely worthy of 7.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I 100% agree with almost everything that "Tamlin" said just a few comments ago. This was also the fragrance that started me into colognes, I didn't actually buy it but it was gifted to me by my father when I was really young. I have a newer bottle and that same old one, the oils have definitely changed their scent profile. Sometimes they're sharper, and sometimes they seem dull. Nevertheless, This scent defines "oriental". I smell a slightly sweeter Sauvage with just a little less depth. In my opinion, "citrus" has no business being on this page, PLEASE don't listen to that part. This fragrance is definitely a safe buy if you like warm, sweet, spicy fragrances, and need something both casual and a little dressed up. Silage: 8/10 (surprisingly strong) Longevity: 7.5/10 (again, pleasantly surprised) Uniqueness: 2/10 (probably not a signature scent) Crowd Pleaser: 8.5/10 (not very offensive IMO)

The first YR I encountered, a very good friend of mine has this and I tested it on my skin also. What can I say, I was surprised! It is linear, but it's a nice scent, very pleasant. It has some sillage (not much, but it will get noticed), very unoffensive and quiet, perfect for work, the movies or other crowded environments. I do not get the Le Male comparison, not at all. It can be worn in any season - it is just a bit warm, but the cedar and very little citrus makes it ok for summer also. If it is also true that it's cheap and that they use only natural ingredients, than this is a definite buy! PS: for older men? I don't think so. Certainly not for a teenager trying desperately to get noticed, true. Rather for a calm and confident man that does not need to make a statement by the way he smells.

I like this. A fragrance buddy sent a sample of this to me and he was raving about how great it is. I don't quite share that enthusiasm but do you know what? It's decent. Everything I've tried from Yves Rocher is really competent and reasonably priced. This doesn't make my heart sing but it delivers a cozy warming winter fragrance which has a coumarin heavy vibe without being soupy or overly cloying. There's a light vanillic hay after an opening which is pretty complex mixture of the resinous and what can only be described as a designer like citrus accord. Lasts well but doesn't have any shocking, next level "OMG I can't believe this is available at this price point???" moments.

Utile pour se reposer de sa signature ou de ses bombes olfactives habituelles hivernales. Sillage 1/2 Manque un peu de force. Longévité 1.5/2 Tient bien mais peu mieux faire. Masculinité 1/2 Mâle assagi ou mâle castré, innofensif ?... Sans compter que le Mâle lui-même ayant été beaucoup porté, Hoggar se trouve déjà un peu démodé. Evolution 2/4 Linéaire et un peu ennuyeuse pour une composition agréable, certes, mais relativement anonyme tout de même. TOTAL 12.5/20

Starts with a nice aromatic citrus opening that is not too sharp, after the fragrance stays on your skin for a while it loses the citrus note and gains a woody vanilla scent that is very pleasant. It lasts for around 7 - 8 hours although it is not very strong with 3 sprays, maybe 5 sprays would do the trick. Good for evenings or formal/professional settings however I would not recommend it if you’re dressed casually. It is a bit overpriced in my opinion and would recommend you look for a deal before buying it, if you do manage to get it at a discount then it’s worth it. Only wish it was a bit stronger, it’s good nonetheless.

An equivalent, maybe simpler, to Eau des Baux, which I actually prefer because Baux tends to be sticky and somewhat irritating. I’m surprised there isn’t more of this profile on the market. It’s pleasant, straightforward, but decent. Perhaps it carries more barber qualities than Baux? So, it’s somewhat like the profile of Ferre for Man, with vibes of Balenciaga PH and Heritage, but as you know, this profile has a bit more sweetness—fortunately, not as much as Fireplace. Maybe it has a touch of Noir Extreme? Just so you know.

I had a 2017 batch. The citrus-dominated opening makes this perfume seem like a pungent, nasal scent at the beginning, but as time passes, it becomes woody, warm spicy, a little bit ambery and you feel the real hit notes there. It is a perfume that looks straight, but it is a perfume that does this well in terms of fragrance aromas, but its lasting power was not good in the bottle I had, the smell was lost after 3-4 hours. Scent beauty---8/10 longevity--------6/10 sillage-----------6/10

I bought this one for my dad, its packaging colours reminded me of yesteryears YR Samarkande wich was a favourite of my dad and including me. When I received my parcel of YR and smelled this, I was intoxicated by its smell...it is so nice!It smells a bit woody, fresh and above all it smells expensive... I think it has a soft drydown which makes it really attractive to wear it on myself, will definately order for myself to wear in winter! ;)

Just beautiful. Oddly enough, I find it more ambered than its cousin "Ambre Noir", stronger and more captivating. It's an oriental woody amber scent, sweet and spicy but without being heavy nor heady, well balanced by the citrus fruits that give it some freshness. And it's a beast of longevity! For once, I'm really surprised by the longevity of a perfume of YR. I HOPE IT'S NEVER DISCONTINUED! 9/10

This is a weird one. At first I tried it on paper strip a couple of years ago and I didn't like it, but now I do. It's not the most groundbreaking fragrance ever or anything, but it's pleasant, and sometimes pleasant is enough. I prefer this to Ambre Noir, but much prefer Evidence (either pour homme or pour femme) over this one. Best for chilly days. And the price is highly competitive.

i thinking to buy this one to my boyfriend, he likes more woody scents.. and this one seems to be a good combination. i sniffed it once, and now that i know that it has long-lasting power... Maybe :D

I have the open after shave one and it it quite nice. Wish I could spray it as I hate to get my hands dirty. Could buy a bottle but to much hassle.

I think this is the best men's frangrance from YR. It smell fresh and strong. I love it!

The bodywash version is my regular bodywash and it is AMAZING, spicy woody and sweet but I cannot make peace with the EDT. Something in the beggining starts too screech-alcoholic and later it is more citrus woods instead of the bodywash version's spice woods. Performance is also bad but price is cheap and ingredients are clean, in case you are worried about hormone distruptors.

I've just bought it in the Black Friday deal. Overall, it is an OK fragrance, with a good price. The scent is clearly woody and vaguely spicy. The projection is above intermediate, but the longevity isn't that strong. 6/10 imo

When i sniffed this frag for the first time i was blown away. I thought it's a tobacco-woody sweet scent. Was i wrong when i saw the notes, which it makes it so much simpler in composition, yet the final result turns out pretty complex. This is my first YR purchased fragrance and totally love it!

Update: Fall has arrived and Hoggard was impatiently waiting to be tested. I didn't like what i smelt - soley powdery tonka bean notes, which make me wanna gag. Hoggard you are so misleading and disappointing!

Nothing so special or wow for this perfume.It s sweet spicy woody perfume which i think Arabian perfume may be better both scent or longevity.

I got it for Christmas and I just didnt like it bro. The smell is very annoying.

yesterday I was in a bus for a 4 hours trip and there was a lady beside me who smelled really good.I couldn't control myself from asking the name of perfume and she said it's hoggar for men from YR and I told myself I should come here and check it out. in fact the smelling was very similar to Nina Ricci delice d'epices although there isn't any similarity in ingredients.it doesn't smell manly at all,but doesn't smell too floral neither.it's very provocative and VERY long lasting.from he first minute of trip to the end of 4th hour I could smell it when she moved. it's better than most of Yves Rocher fragrances and can compete with more expensive brands easily.

First impression was mature. But then it started to hit the mid notes and I was like this might actually be alright, then from there it just went from mature to middle aged man 25 and up I would say. Pretty sexy actually, definitely not bad for what I paid for especially coz I wasn't expecting much. It's got a bit of citrus and the main accord to this is definitely vanilla due to the Tonka bean. I like it but am not gonna say I love it. Can't wait to start wearing it on the colder months. Projection - 7/10 Sillage - 7/10 Longevity - 8/10 bout 7-9 hours Seasons - winter but definite fall for me. I think this would be too cloying for spring especially summer.

I like yves rocher perfumes, I own Comme une evidence, ambre noir and cuir vetiver. Today I went to my yves rocher store and saw this new perfume, I say new because they didn't have it before in store. Needles to say I tested it and the ooening was OK. But then in the drydown I kept smelling a very nice and a familiar scent, I I recognized it and it was none other than d&g the one. I went to the department store next door and I tested the one and I could compare them side by side... I have to tell you hoggar smells 85% 90% similar to the one in the drydown.... I think is a very good deal.

Hoggar is way more complex than what you`d expect from the tiny scent pyramide. I think it rather belongs to the Oriental Spicy scent group than the Oriental Woody group as Fragrantica indicates. I get lots of spices like nutmeg and clove maybe even some cinnamon. Hoggar has similarities to PR`s One Million but it is a more grown up, mature scent, not intended for teenagers like One Million and it`s not so sickening sweet. Great affordable quality, staying power is excellent, too. Unfortunately spicy oriental doesn`t work very well for me, but still there`s credit where credit`s due.

This is a very easy scent... it's quite linear and not complicated at all... which also can't be expected considering this only contains 4 notes... It's simple and nice, nothing special. Tonka definitely takes the lead in this composition. The citrus, bergamot are noticeable in the first minutes after applying, but they fade away pretty fast. What's left is a sweet, soft, creamy blend of tonka & cedar. It's nice, but a bit overrated imho. Also the longevity is not that outstanding on me...

I just purchased hoggar from Yves Rocher shop in my home town. I made decison to buy it after comparing with Yves Rocher Altika. I like Hoggar scent, its woody smell realy nice and warm. I test in my arm, the opening is like lemon, when I snif many times its like L'homme from YSL?. After to hour dry down I can smell nice woddy..oh..I really like it. Now, its has been 3 hours in my arm...and I can snif nice smell of cedar-tonka bean in my arm.

Picked up the after shave version super cheap. Obviously quite weak but a pleasant scent. Opens citrus fresh and dries down into a nice warm slightly sweet and spicy smell with a hint of wood. Tonka gives it a subtle tobacco touch. All in all a nice warm comforting fragrance and the usual high quality you expect from an Yves Rocher product. Light enough to wear in summer but I'd put it in the cold season. First try, 7/10
