Pur Desir de Rose

I am not really a big fan of roses, but this is something I really like...maybe even love!! Despite prefering lilacs and hyacinths to roses, I do appreciate them for their deep beauty and abundant aromas. I actually was introduced to this by getting four mini shower gels (Lily, Rose, Lilac and Lavender), free from YR. I was hooked! I have the EDT, the lotion and body wash...and I'm so glad, as YR gem has (as they do so many times) discontinued this lovely scent. The YR catalog calls this a "spicy transparent floral". I guess the transparent part=aquatic notes, the spicy part=spices and floral core=roses...whatever is in it, it works for me. It is clearer and less oriental than Rose Absolu, and just gets better with each wear. In the late autumn and wintertime, when I miss the roses in my garden; I wear this, and it makes me very happy. Some may find it too "femme", but I find it sexy and utterly fascinating...and one of (if not the best) rose soliflore I have ever smelled! Sillage: good Longevity: great Overall: 4/5 Dewdrops on the last rosebud of summer with the crisp smell of spicy autumn leaves is what this beauty brings to my mind. A gift of love from the Earth, distilled, blended and bottled by man...

This is a REALLY lovely rose scent - the roses are complemented with a mildly spicy scent. Combined with accessorizing shower gel, lotion and even deodorant, you could layer the scent and have it last for hours. Sadly, Yves Rocher has discontinued the line in favor of the Secrets d'Essences Rose Essential line (which has only lotion and shower gel, no deodorant, for accompaniment, but which - to be fair - does last longer). I'd like to find out who Yves Rocher has over there deciding which scents to keep and which to discontinue, because they aren't so good at picking them - discontinuing so many wonderful scents! *sigh*

First come hardcandies with vodka, but after some time turns into edible rose petals in sweet syrup. It is not fluffy or powdery one, it is sparkling and crispy. Like mature tea roses in a dew. I love it ! :)

So sad that it is not available anymore!This is my very first signature scent seven years ago when I was 12.It is not expensive,but it smells absolutely great.I love love it!

I smell cloves in this, heavily. This is a jammy, dense, bitter, herbal rose. It almost makes one’s mouth water. Shame that it was discontinued.

Spicy, with a rosy pink pepper, and a mere smidgen of clove and star anise. A clear, watery element, like rose petals in a crystal clear stream. Mostly though, this is rose, rose and more rose. I see this as a very deep, dark, pink rose, more than a red rose. No citrus on top, unusual in a rose scent. This is not a vanilla or lemon blossom tinged rose, either. Floral, but not gourmand, no fruit at all to my nose. The aromatic spicy element really adds a lot, with a little dusting of zest of lemon, and maybe even orange. Barely perceptible, but it kind of thickens the sauce, gives it some kick. There is an interesting tension between the light aqueous accord, and the rose accord, which is "heavy" and thick without being syrupy. Not really what I call sweet, but thick, formidable. On me, good sillage and projection, with longevity about four to six hours, so ideal for daytime and office wear. One of those scents I forget about, pull out and think, I should wear this more often! Really a lovely rose scent. Not an heirloom rose, more of a fragrant modern rose.

Does anyone remember a vintage Ralph Lauren room spray called Wicker? It was from around 25 years ago. I loved it because it smelled like wicker furniture on a hot day in a garden. This perfume smells exactly like that on me! I didn't realize it at first. I was thinking about those tall, dried ornamental grass plumes in floor vases. Then it hit me. Wicker. Think about a very hot and sunny day. Wicker furniture on a patio with a hot rose bush near by getting full sun. Maybe some cold raspberry ice tea on the table. Very old world southern. It is a lovely scent without a strong rose. Just enough to know it's there somewhere in the background. Very pleasant. And there is a hint of raspberry that brings a refreshing note to an otherwise dry moment in summer. I will buy this again, but I'm afraid it's going to be a pillow mist from now on. It brings back memories of wonderful summers long gone. Now I don't have to search for anymore vintage Ralph Lauren.

This just may be my holy grail of rose perfumes. It is light, delicate and realistic, and manages to convey an impression of thorns and woody stem, besides. This is not one of those stiff competition blooms as large as saucers, but a ruffly, many-flowered arbor-dweller of a rose. The distinctive odor is present, but not heady, and thankfully there is no face cream note, such as happens when other ingredients are thrown into the mix. Not a green rose, but a woody one, and it leaves Perfumer's Workshop Tea Rose (which I hitherto admired) in the dust!! EDIT: Just saw that the nose was Annick Menardo, of whose work i am already a HUGE fan.

A friendly Fragrantican swapped a sample of this, and I'm very happy! As a big fan of the original Desir I was curious about the flankers, and PDdR is better than expected/hoped for. Performance is moderate, as is typical with Yves Rocher fragrances. The rose scent has a touch of sour cherry - a note that doesn't appear on the pyramid. Considering the few notes this perfume has, the scent isn't thin. I consider PDdR a minimalist fragrance, light enough for work wear but not insubstantial.

An unexpectedly spicy rose. A cool type of spicyness that wears, in my opinion, so wonderfully in the icy breeze of winter. A bit like Guerlain Ginger Piccante, which it vaguely reminds me of in that sense; a fresh spicy airy beauty, no doubt unique, naturalistic and elegantly minimalist - though there is quite a bit going on, say the totally non-sweet tone of sour cherry that the reviewer below me mentions. All painted quietly with a just few skilled brush strokes, in sheer colors.

Attributed to Annick Menardo, a nose with an impressive body of work. In my opinion, this light yet spicy rose EDT is certainly unisex, and arguably gourmand. Wearing this, I can imagine sitting in the sun at a table set out on a field. Everyone is wearing white and sipping rose flavored tea & munching spicy tea cakes- even the dudes who just finished playing sports on the aforementioned field. We smell good.

Such a beautiful scent. Very light and floral. I was looking (and still looking) for the perfect rose scent, ans always comming back to YR Pur Desir de Rose. Why it was disconinued, eh? Why?

A very nice rose smell, one that could be loved by those who don't want to smell 'sweetly' like a rose. It's not a powdery perfume.

Honestly, this rose fragrance is the most confusing scent I have ever worn! Usually my chemistry will make roses out of just about anything I apply to it! not in this case! it is so strange, because the only scent my nose can smell is the pure scent of unadulterated clover honey! What boggles my mind is that honey isn't even one of the three pyramid notes mentioned. Okay. Now the honey note is softening and is turning a bit watery, but it is very linear in nature other than this small shift. Guess that's the aquatic note coming through, but still NO rose. If you like honey fragrances, this is the one for you! It is sweet and easy and totally non offensive. Sillage is soft. Longevity is short lived

Oh dear! This is horrid on me. Very sweet rose, soaked in brine and with a generous handful of cloves added. A scrubber, in fact. I would think maybe it's turned, but the other Pur Desirs I have are all fine and they were all bought together and have been kept together, so - just not the one for me, sadly. What a shame! I'm a big fan of rose fragrances and I love YR too.

I remember wearing this and never smelling 'rose', but it was a warm smell that was alright, on me it smelled like potpourri.

A plastic-rose scent, mid-mature, which may appeal to those who like something different... I applied 6 heavy sprays 0-1.5 hours - 1 foot projection but initial sprays filled the entire room. IMHO this smells like squidgy plastic, which is used in dolls or imitation plastic novelties, with rose. I get no spices. Ages 48-58 1.5 hours - 3hours- 5 inch projection. Linear smell 3hours 7.5 hours- 2 inch projection. Lasts quite well for an EDT This was a gift from another member, which my wife did not like, so I give it to my mum and I am delighted that she really likes it

Pur Desire de Rose is a spicy rose and as John said, it's sexy and fascinating. I find it to be a close relative of Comme de Garcons Carnation but a little mild with roses instead of carnations. The beginning is so spicy with a hint of sweetness and then slowly roses start to show up. The roses are so soft and velvety and mingle with spices just perfectly.My only gripe is the lasting power as it becomes the skin scent too soon.

Oh Katyas!! I agree!! I think their policy in discontinuing fragrances is primarily based on commercial grounds. I think this, because they have kept Clea and Nature since the launching decades ago. So the ones that sell are kept in the line. But maybe someone of the Yves Rocher company can respond? I would love them to bring back the vintages in the ORIGINAL formula, not the re-editions..

I had and liked Pur Désir de Rose, too. I powdery, almost dusty rose scent. Warm and feminine... husband did not like it but that did not keep me from using it again and again. Nice rose scent without the old-lady-note.

i had the solid version in a flower shaped tin. milky rose, milky like pudding. my grandma got it for me as a gift. i've been trying to find something similar, but found nothing comparable so far.

This was the perfect spicy red rose, quite realistic and heady, with a touch of the dewy, dark green leaves & the sap. *Not migraine safe.

beautiful, pure, velvety red rose :). pity it was discontinued.. along with pur desir de Lys. The original line was the best for sure.
