Spell Caramel

Briar Rose Lay Under The Wicked Fairy’s Spell Carabosse is the evil fairy godmother from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale. We call her Maleficent in the 1959 Disney adaptation of the fairy tale. Carabosse comes from a similar character in another fairy tale, Madame d’Aulnoy’s “Princess Mayblossom”. Over time, the name Carabosse was applied to the evil fairy from Sleeping Beauty, and, as such, she was mentioned in Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet. Regarding spells, Sleeping Beauty, or Briar Rose, is the first fairy tale that comes to mind. The story tells of a king and his queen who had a pretty little girl that the king could not help himself with joy and gave him a big feast. Among the guests were also wise women. There were thirteen in her realm, but since she only had twelve golden dishes to eat from, one of them had to be left at home. The Magi Women gave the child their magical gifts: virtues, beauty, wealth, and so on, with everything you could wish for in the world. When eleven of them had made their promise, suddenly, the thirteenth entered Carabosse (Maleficent). She wanted revenge for not being invited, and, without greeting or looking at anyone, she cried aloud: “The king’s daughter, in her fifteenth year, will prick herself with a spindle and fall dead.” Without saying another word, she turned and left the room. And, without saying another word, she turned and left the room. But the twelfth, whose goodwill was still a deep sleep of a hundred years, into which the princess will fall. Back to the perfume, Jordi Fernández is the senior perfumer behind the fragrance, the same as Tobacco Sublime in the same collection and Full Moon over the Desert in the previous one. I’m not surprised that the rating is relatively low, given that the nose primarily works with niche houses whose scents do not appeal to the masses. Spell Caramel belongs to the family of oriental sweets, with a boozy slant, fusing cool cardamom, hot pimento, and indulgent caramel, and opens with a spicy and dense citrus accord. It’s dark like syrup; the blood orange juice is as vivid as homemade freshly squeezed juice. The syrupy nuance is gooey, like molasses, caramelised but not overly burnt. This blend hides spicy and mentholated ingredients. Ginger appears fresh and spicy as its root, while the minty side is due to the green seeds of cardamom. The aroma of these seeds also extends into the heart of the perfume. Initially, Spell Caramel is sweet, then I smell something smokier. The opening is a well-balanced melange of warming spices, more spice drawer than #Spicebomb. However, the perfumer excellently made it, and within a minute, it flowed smoothly into the most realistic gooey salted caramel scent I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. I need help with caramel representations and other notes that can appear overly sweet. It can make this task even more difficult if you include vanilla. The fact that Jordi Fernández has avoided this in his composition is remarkable. It is entirely due to the salty note of the amber and the sandalwood and tobacco found on top. Fear not, this is not a cheap caramel, rest assured. The caramelised accord here resembles that of creme brulee, where the sugar is melted at the moment with the flame. If I put my nose quite close to the skin, I can catch the bitter and black aura of the liquorice root. When Spell Caramel approaches the dry-down, it does not change too much. I found it similar to Tender Amber during the initial test on the blotter. But after having worn it on my skin, I still catch the same ambroxan vibe, but Spell Caramel has that smoky tobacco and creamy sandalwood twist on it. On my skin, the caramel is deep and musky. This musk is quite seductive, and I don’t know if it’s my nose, but it smells like dirty musk, not the clean and laundry kind, and the caramel is almost burnt now. Warm spiciness, saltiness, and creaminess are what make the final trail. I can surely catch the spicy vanilla but immensely miss the powdery osmanthus. There is a smidgen of dustiness, but not as much as I expected. Instead, I get booziness in the opening and a slight woodsy vibe behind the spiced gourmand goodness. Despite the bold notes, Spell Caramel does not scream and sits close to the skin. It is a personal winter gourmand to be worn by an individual who wants a touch of luxury in their own home. Definitely, for the cold months, evenings fall and all days winter. More for leisure time than office. If projection and sillage are moderate, longevity is average, still detectable the morning after if applied in the evening. I'm formulating my feelings on a bottle I've owned since August 2023.

First impression: it is gorgeous, complex and unisex! It opens with a somewhat burnt red orange (I guess it is so beacuse of the cardamom), the opening lightly reminds that of For Him Red Edition, but the ginger and the background of caramel create a somewhat gourmand feel (gingerbread and the likes come to mind). There is a strong vanilla that backs it all, and it truly was spellbounding to me because it smells exactely like Vaniglia from Compagnia delle Indie, a vintage vanilla one may say, almost oriental, that one was my very first bottle of fragrance and I am so happy to smell again something similar. Licorice, davana and osmanthus create a magical feel, it is almost witchy in a way, perfect for the coming Fall. Dry down has still a base of caramel (which by the way, from the start, it is not so sweet but airy and refined, it is in the middle between smoked caramel and creamy caramel), the vanilla is toned down and more floral, the presence of osmanthus still noticeable. There is a balsamic feel to the composition (probably from davana) and it is lightly powdery. I like very much, a must buy for me. This fragrance captures for me the spirit of Halloween, probably because on me is quite balsamic. Gelly candy and the typical autumnal sweets come to mind.

This is an extremely underrated Zara fragrance. Sand Desert at Sunset gets a lot of hype but I feel like this one is underappreciated. It nowhere near smells generic and has a pleasant sweet and spicy smell. The name checks out as it does smell like a sweet caramel with added smokiness and spice. It is not listed in the notes but after the drydown, there is almost this woody and smoky oud smell which pairs well with the sweet caramel and vanilla notes. I'm not sure if I got a super strong batch but mine is really loud and projects within the first 1-3 hours. I've gotten several compliments on this cologne and even had a worker from Walmart compliment me on my cologne which caught me by surprise because I was about 10 feet away which means the cologne must have left a good trail. Longevity with Zara colognes is usually the 4-6 hour mark but this one seems to perform a tad bit better with more sillage. I believe that this is more of a Fall or Winter fragrance because of that spicy sweetness. It can be worn for multiple occasions and it is a unisex scent. This is definitely a scent that I hope Zara does not discontinue because I will be using this in rotation again. The price of 35 bucks is also unbeatable. Highly recommended 10/10.

This fragrance holds a special place in my heart, as it was my first true winter fragrance/gourmand. However, I will try and keep it objective and unbiased. When you first get it, Spell Caramel is poorly blended and a bit of a mess, a harsh opening where blood orange burns your nostrils will abruptly turn into a caramel and vanilla bomb in the late stages of its life. However, after buying this fragrance back in 2024, I noticed that it got much better after maceration. The blood orange settles down a bit and makes way for the cardamom, before smoothly transitioning into a light airy vanilla with caramel in the background. Drydown smells oddly similar to Khamrah in it's late stages, but for some reason nobody ever noticed that. I wouldn't say that my nose is well trained, but its tough for a lot of people to distinguish side to side, or I imagine it would be. For under 50$ CAD this is a ridiculously good fragrance and I strongly reccomend for those who want to get into sweeter fragrances without breaking the bank or buying a dupe

Zara Men's perfume department has yet again proven to be full of interesting unisex options. I tested Spell Caramel yesterday; it was a rainy, humid day, typical for fall season on the Croatian coast. I bought this secondhand because the notes seemed nice, and I enjoyed two other perfumes from this line - Majestic Green and Sand desert at sunset, both pretty good unisex scents. I sprayed just one spray, and the scent filled up my entire car. For the rest of the day, I smelled a persistent scent bubble around me. The perfume itself is quite interesting, starting off spicy and turning more and more peachy and sweet as hours went by. Something about it smelled familiar - there were moments when it smelled similar to Bitter Peach and Scandal pour Homme. Lasting power is unexpectedly strong, as I can still smell it on my hand today despite showering and washing my hands in the meantime. All in all, this is a good choice for anyone who wants a strong and sweet scent with a masculine twist.

Genuinely one of my favorite fragrances that I’ve ever smelled. I was never expecting something this gorgeous to come out from Zara. It’s sweet, but there’s a clean smell that holds it from becoming a complete gourmand. So what you get is a clean smelling blood orange with caramel and vanilla. Performance is also good. Longevity I get 8-10 hours, on clothes it lasts 4-5 days, and projection is decent (not bad, not room filling either, just good)

I find this completely unisex and easy to wear in the colder months. I just adore it. A sweet-not-too-sweet spicy, woody caramel with a touch of liquorice. It gives almost Angel's Share vibes, but with citruses and cardamom and much more dry, if it makes sense. Longevity and projection are good, nothing exceptional.

A licorice ambroxan maltol bomb. And I like it very much. On my skin it's strong, sweet and spicy licorice. Great one again made by Jordi Fernández for Zara under 23 euro's. How do they do that?

When I first smelled this, I got a full blast of sweet caramel, but now that I picked it up for myself I get a very strong sweetish tobacco very similar to Herod

One of the best versatile male fragrances Zara. Great in both cool and warm weather and has great silage and has a mature scent. Great compliment getter also

This, in my nose, smells like a buget version of Clive Christian's Blonde Amber. WOW ! it's the first time i've ever liked a Zara fragance

It has nothing in common with Sand Desert at Sunset, different type of sweetness, this one is more floral and more witchy, less gourmand.

I get lots of incense in the opening. Lovely vanilla/caramel scent in the drydown. 5/5 scent, performance is average.

I'd say it's like a toned down version of Mancera Silver Blue.

I know the notes are completely different but this just smells like Clive Christian Blonde Amber to me so if that one is out of reach for you, just get this. Smells fantastic though. UPDATE: Yep this is absolutely Blonde Amber. Made sure to compare them both yet again and it’s a fantastic clone, though Im unsure if it was an intentional clone considering how talented Jordi Fernandez already is. Anyway, get this. They both perform similarly.

Opens powdery with a citrus-forward spice, becomes more caramelized and vanillic as it dries down. The osmanthus gives it a lovely kick of peach, but not too overwhelming. More than arms' length sillage, lasts a little under 6 hrs on skin. A great offering from the men's collection, definitely unisex. Zara has really stepped it up.

For the price you are getting a good perfume. I don't find it very similar to anything I own. And by the way, I am a fragrance hoarder! This is comfy, spicy and the caramel note is not overcloying or exaggerated. On point! I am really going to wear this to work this fall/winter. Longevity of about 4-6 hours.

This reminds of a more refined version of Eilish no 2. The scent itself is slightly sweet, and woody. I wish there was a more prominent caramel note, with the name being being spell caramel and all. None the less a very nice everyday type of scent.

Opened with a nice citrus, ginger and cardamom combo which was very quickly replaced by vanilla caramel scent. Towards the end osmanthus came into the picture and turned it into a caramelized peach scent. Quite lovely actually.

Very good cheap perfume. Sweet smell that isn't overwhelming; projection is low so does not fill up larger rooms on entry if you are a fan of silage this isn't for you as well as performance not being the strongest.

Its good but not my type, sweet caramel but fresh enough to be a year rounder. Isn't really suitable for my age. Probably would be my signature scent if i was 20 years older

I honestly don’t know what people are smoking before reviewing this. Either Zara gave everyone different forumulations by landslides. Some people say Oud Some say licorece some say something other. This is my honest no bs review. In a way the super sweetnwss from the caramel and the spices makes it kind of smell like root beer/ cola y in that syrap spice. Stickyness if you could imagine that. Definetly sweet. I don’t get Blonde Amber what so ever. Blonde amber is smooth well formulated beutiful amber with spices and light tobacco. This is not that. I see potential in it. Just that super sweetness takes over for the most part. Don’t get me wrong it smells good. If you like sweet strong, if you want to smell not gourmand but definetly that edible sweet sticky type of candy. Then this is your scent. No oud stop with that. Seriously smells good. In the sweet kinda spicy cola/ rootbeer sticky sweet candy kind of way. Not sensual, but fun if you’re out and about and want to smell different. Go for it. Not cozy either. Other people have liked it a lot but complained about the strenght. But I guess it is just that my batch is super potent. Three sprays and I’ve gotten things like ”your perfume smells good but it is so strong”. Indecates that it is a fair bit to potent. Spray this on clothes and it will last forever almost. Spray this on neck and have a scarf and the scarf will get it directly. If you like things like swy, by the firepace, London for men. This isnt you. Or it might I don’t know you. It’s cheap go try it. I bought mine late 2023.

This smells good but it backs a mike tyson worthy punch. This is one of my more complemented scents however. I've also gotten that it is a bit to strong. I do find it to be so also. How ever a real complement puller, room filler, trace leaving type of fragrance. A little goes a long way. Dry down is ultimatly your best friend here. The opening is kind of offensive but the dry down is quite nice. How ever there is something missing to balance out the sweetness from the caramel and the vanilla. But I kind of dont get any vanilla at all which is really disappointing I do get the sweetness from the vanilla. Would be a top fragrance for me had it spent a little more time in the designer room to make it more finished

I got the new batch (40100) and there are two noticeable differences. 1. The atomizer is quite different from before, it now punches in a wider area and feels stronger. Which is a good thing I guess? You can see the inner part of the nozzle is now white instead of black. 2. It smells different from the tester. Less cardamom’s warm spicy but stronger blood orange’s citrusy and sour vibe. Overall it felt less warm and spicy. The bottle came perfect no leaking so maybe they reformulated it with a watered down version.

Only received this yesterday. Reminds me of Tobacco Sublime with caramel. Expected something more unique. Really hope it changes over time. #Fragrance Journey 6 What can I say, if you're looking for a cheap winter scent that lasts longer past lunch go ahead, but it's nothing anything special, I find this overly sweet. For the price I can't bash on this too much, caramel sweet, not the biggest fan of the opening so I would suggest apply in advance before leaving the house for people to smell the drydown. This fragrance has been done over 100's if not thousands of times, if you want to smell unique stay clear. Rating: 5/10

Sticky-sweet, synthetic, woody oud. If you like this DNA, get ScentStory's 24 Gold Oud Edition instead for its added projection and longevity at the same price point.

I fucked with this heavily when I had it, lasts forever with crazy projection and is incredibly complex and sensual especially for its price range. Naturally I used the fuck out of it. Perhaps not the most masterfully mixed, but it is comforting and esoteric all at once, what would be an immature sweetness from the caramel notes is undercut with a confident, sensual self-assuredness that isn't opposed to play. Very sexy without taking itself too seriously, very charming. Perfectly androgynous, and by that I mean it does not have that cloying, synthetic spice that is often endemic in "mens" perfumes. Something unconventional about what warm round spice it does have, there's an almost chili-like note hidden somewhere in there. Beautiful stuff. Guided me through a pivotal turning point in my life and will surely be a scent that will transport me back to that version of myself if I ever catch a whiff of it again -- only I can't find it anywhere now! Did they discontinue it or something

This is so good! I’m not a sweet / gourmand type of perfume lover but I’m liking this one very much. I was thinking that it might turn out to be this sweet caramel bomb but it’s not , it’s a very smooth soothing scent , very comforting actually. Great for more fresh / colder weather actually as this warm scent envelops you quite comfortably. Zara’s been rocking it in 2023 ! Notes on the box : Orange Sanguina, Ginger, Davana, Caramel, Tobacco, Amber, Sandalwood, so I don't understand why the notes on Fragrantica are different.

It is not similar to scandal, Herod, Oajan or sunrise from the red sand dunes. It’s more like oud save the queen from Atkinson (similar to Clive Christain blonde amber) This fragrance is just all over the place. It has a weird note combination that makes it smell a bit off in the opening and mid. The caramel comes out more in the drydown and gets a tad bit better. I have Atkinsons oud save the queen and it’s way smoother and well blended. This one was my least favourite from the 4 releases.

Recién comprada ayer y tras un uso intenso decir que es un perfume impresionante, tanto es su olor como es su desempeño. Larga duración y proyección. No suelen durar mucho en mi piel pero este en concreto si. Perfecto para el verano.

Sooooooo sticky and sweet. Salty caramel but with some dirty, spicy, plasticky undertones, like an old carpet vibes :/. Yeah, definitely something icky underneath but nothing too disturbing. Occasion: clubbing; fornication.

I love this scent. Brings back memories of being in Malta for me, and wearing it in the hot sun just seems to work. This wouldn't look out of place if INITIO released it. Really intoxicating and one I continue to overspray

Smells nice enough but the performance is absolutely terrible (Batch 40311). Probably get an hour tops. Skip this and go for sand dessert at sunset instead. Smells like angels share and created by the same perfumer

What I'm going to tell you right now is going to surprise you, but I'm going to tell you that spell caramel reminds me 2005 Jean Paul Gaultier 2 :) especially opening very similar .

@Handsome1990 just came here to write this :DDD so an update, it's the closest thing I found to gaultier 2, it's not a dupe, I repeat, it's not a dupe, but totally has that vibe

I've tried yesterday, just on paper. It's nice but remedies me to Gourmand Leather and JPG Ultramale. I will try it again on the skin, hopefully will smell different.

@YCK09 I also bought it for 300 TL lol, it does smell good actually, good deal too. It does smell sweet and all but it's not overwhelming.

I definitely get a sour Cola vibe from it. Maybe a bit too sweet for my taste but I will test it again in the following weeks
