Tubereuse Noir

Tuberose has come back into use in recent years, thanks to a modern reinterpretation of its heady scent. Its waxy white petals offer some of the most enticing notes in the world of fragrances - powerful, seductive, and exquisite. Percy Bysshe Shelley immortalized it in poetry as "the sweetest flower for a scent that blows." It is a tricky thing; you think it's innocent, but it's dangerous. I love tuberose, that's true, yet they have already done well all great tuberoses, for example, Tubereuse Criminelle, Fracas, Beyond Love, and Carnal Flower, don't they? Yet now and then, new tuberose pops up that brings something new to the table, different from all these genuinely wonderful things above. Jo Malone's image of casual elegance and minimalism gave the ZARA brand a plus. The bottles are simple, handy, the off-white packaging has a retro appeal, and it presents the collection in a way that eliminates the intimidating factor. Jo usually bases scents on single-note ideas such as rose, grapefruit, bellflower, or in combinations that are trendy or reassuring, for instance, oud, pear and freesia, tea and bergamot, and so forth. With Tubereuse Noir, she built the perfume around the contrast of sensual white flowers and creamy woods. Let's dive into the Tubereuse Noir. The starting point is intriguing because you experience the petals' delicate softness against the dark and wealthy background. At first, Tubereuse Noir feels sparkle, with plenty of juicy citruses and mellifluous ylang-ylang to create a sweet shimmering effect. There is a crisp, bitter green in the background; I seem to catch a hint of absinthe, earthy, and aromatic with a herbaceous edge that gives a sophisticated accent to the scent. So, it's sweet, but not dramatically or overly sweet. Angelica, which takes more of a back seat to the tuberose behind the wheel, adds a peppery look and a crisp green feel. Let the pepper and green nuances of the top notes fade; the clean jasmine and dewy tuberose set the crucial stage. The heart is heavy on these floral notes' fatty and milky nuances, rather than anything animalic and sweaty. Both the intoxicating white blooms are renowned for their sumptuous, sensual scent that leaves a beautiful trail. The fact is that tuberose can be pretty demanding and dominates every air molecule it comes into contact with. In here, it is slightly buttery, but not too much to become heady or narcotic. The middle stay is a megillah scroll, and it goes on for hours. The darkness I mentioned earlier comes thanks to some smooth woods, the amber, and sandalwood that compose the base. It is a similar twist used in the perfumes mentioned earlier, but Tubereuse Noir never even gets close to being a femme fatale. The dry-down features a woody note with an amber-like scent that brings addictive warmth and sensuality to the fragrance. The tuberose here is quite realistic to me, more green than buttery, and it isn't too sweet. The deeper it sits on the skin, the more diminished the character becomes. The tuberose with its coconut milk-like vibe and amber are still there, and Tubereuse Noir unexpectedly lasts further than many other ZARA offerings. Still, it stops being distinctive after about a few hours. You end up with yet another nice white floral with an oriental twist, which is not bad. It's a fragrance that is effortless and pretty, wearable and undemanding. It also brings a novelty to the universe of tuberose that I've not seen before, precisely the silky, lactonic texture. Men should try this. I am wearing it today, so I just wanted to mention that it's genderless. It is versatile during the middle seasons, daily and nightly occasions on crisp spring and fall months. I base this review on a 100ml bottle that I have owned since November 2019.

This is a very nice perfume. First of all i must say that if you are waiting for a jo Malone quality perfume this Zara línea is a bit far from them. While most JM perfumes are eau de Cologne these ones are eau de parfum and however the longevity is even weaker than on jo Malone ones. But a JM fragance costs more than 100€ while you can get these fragances for 20€ euros so they really worths the price and the quality is not bad, nice smell and moderate performance, Closer to the Zara one than to the jo Malone one and a little bit synthetic too. In the case of tubereuse noir the tuberose smell is the one that i get the most. The smell is sweet but less than other tuberose perfumes like carnal flower by Frederic Malle which is much more creamy. TN by Zara remember me to melodie de l'amour by dusita perdones, more pwdery and soapy ir even to Jasmine noir by bvlgary. I think the perfume is totally unisex. If you like tuberose you Will like the perfume and It doesnt Matter if you are a Man or a woman. Un adition It is a soft scent so is suitable for an every day use, better for a daily use than to wear at night. It is a very good new that jo Malone colaborarte with Zara and that que can enjoy these wonderful fragances for only 20€! This is my second Zara-Malone fragrance and you probably already know I'm the president of the "I Hate Zara" club. I went to the Zara store to seek out the Jo-Inspired "city" bottles (New York, Tokyo, Shang-hi, etc.) and they were nowhere to be found. So I sampled the other line and this was my favorite. It's nothing ground-shattering - but if you like tuberose ; this is a bright slightly sweet version. The smell & quality is way above what I paid for a big 3.4 oz. (the price said $39.95, but when rung up - it was $32.95 and I was all "Are these on sale?" and they were all "Just a pricing mistake". Whatever.) . Niche-y feeling for T.J. Maxx price sticker. Longevity is average - but for the price - spritz away! I love this line and hope it stays around for a while! Safe blind buy if you love tuberose. P.S. As others have said ; the DRY DOWN on this is lovely (How friggin' IRONIC as the dry-downs on regular Zara fragrances are total dish-water!) This smells NOTHING like Gucci Bloom.

In 2019 I tried this at the Zara store and I said to myself "This is not for me!" but today (2021) I went back to the same store and tried it on my wrist and I said "WTH! Why do I skip it, this is such a beautiful tuberose!!!!" then I buy it immediately and all the way back home I cannot sniff my wrist. It opens with super fresh tuberose and it reminds me to the scent from the candle "Tubereuse" by Diptyque but in the other way it still reminds me to Do Son that mixed with EDT and EDP version! This wow for me but I still don't know why I didn't like it in the past, maybe it smells 70% like Do Son (EDP) which I prefer (EDT) more but right now fall in love so deep with "Tubereuse Noir".

Pretty delicate gorgeous white fresh tuberose, so clean and I love this as a base for me to layer on Amalfi Sunray by Jo Malone (for Zara) and Bohemian Bluebells. I use a lot of Tuberose Noir, 6-8 sprays, as the base for this layering combination. It's so pretty and feminine and lightens up the gorgeous mist of scent that is created. This is a luxurious scent, white, light and as pretty and complex as a stem of blooming tuberose in a crystal vase of fresh water in the window of a 5-million dollar mansion overlooking the ocean.

This smells like mysterious magical thing happening inside the narrow alleys of England. Cold and stones are damp from the rain. Everyone’s at home but this has a tranquility and it’s sort of an escapist scent. It’s kind of otherworldly (some may say wtf). I like tuberose and it has a very bittersweet feeling in my psyche. Therefore what I say here is very personalised but it reminds you of a dark night in the most magical and exciting way.

Another hidden gem from Zara. This is a fantastic tuberose scent, drawing inspiration from FM's Carnal Flower and Diptyque's Do Son. I own both CN and DS(in EDT). I'd rate these three in the same tier. In terms of sharp greenness, CN > Tubereuse Noir > DS In terms of sweetness, DS> Tubereuse Noir > CN In terms of creaminess, DS> Tubereuse Noir > CN In terms of price, Tubereuse knocks it out of the park. It is getting on my to-buy list.

If you've ever been in an Italian cemetery - this is what they smell like. So to me it's a very melancholic perfume, peaceful but in an eerie way. I find it very pleasantly dirty, but at the same time ylang ylang gives a nice soapy, clean feel. It's really gorgeous. Too bad with my roll on sillage is non existent, because it would be such a perfect complement to my gothic outfits!

Was very surprised by how intense and long lasting this fragrance smelled after my first try. It even put me off after that first time. Then I tried it again on my partner and now I just can’t stop smelling him whenever he’s using it. Just a word of advice, you only need a little of it and please don’t over spray...

a simple, non-creamy, slightly green tuberose soliflore and suitable for all stations and times of the day. absolutely unisex. if like me you are getting closer to tuberoses that are a little more feminine ... indolic ... this is a great start. really excellent performance and I didn't expect it. 9/10

I feel strong burned bitter plastic . This is atomic rose and white flowers and not in nice way. Very longlasting. Update: After hour become more round, Still not my fawe but at least I can stand it now...

I love smelling it on my skin so beautiful. Creamy tuberose with a bit woody smoky sandalwood in the background. Moderate sillage and longevity. Suits its name and worth a try

This is delicious, fresh and sweet tuberose. Not heavy, not cloying, Just fresh and sparkling and wonderful. Longlasting. I love it !!!! It is worth its price.

I purchased a few fragrances from Zara during a big holiday sale a few years ago. The one I fell in love with the Fleur d'Oranger by Jo Malone. It actually smelled better to me than the orange blossom scent from her own line, and unlike that, lasted forever on me. It is very similar to Fragonard's orange blossom scents, but a little sweeter. So, if you like that type of orange blossom scent you should like the one from Zara too. Two others I purchased (Waterlily Tea Dress and Elegantly Tokyo) I wound up giving away to my nieces since they fit them better than me, but by the time I got around to trying this one I had become nose blind from trying all the fragrances I received. All I could smell was straight up tuberose. I put it away to try another day and literally forgot all about it. Stumbling around my perfume cabinet I came across it and realized that I never did give it a proper full wear, so today was the day. First off, for a Jo Malone fragrance this is surprisingly strong and performs great. Just a few sprays got you covered all day. I'm not too happy when I first spray this as all I get is a dry tuberose. But give it a little time and the ylang comes through, sweetening things up a bit. It is when the sandalwood comes though that the action begins, and it adds so much to this fragrance. Suddenly, it's fuller, more well-rounded, becomes very creamy, a tinge spicy, and slightly powdery. That has me scratching my head because there is no way that only one note can add so much to this scent, so there has to be other notes in here that are not listed, but for the life of me I cannot make out what they are. Also, contrary to what the Noir in the name of this fragrance may suggest, this is a very clean, sophisticated polished scent that unlike most tuberose perfumes is a little understated and low key making it wearable just about anywhere outside of special events. For that I would wear something a little more extravagant, but for work or anywhere you want to smell really good in a casual way, this is a nice perfume. I don't think I'll be ignoring this anymore.

I love(d) this! Traditional tuberose opening - strong and intoxicating, but dries down to a (gorgeous) rubbery, unisex, almost mushroom-y rot that I associate with a dying Gardenia. What can I say, I like the weird ones... I also get the "smoke" vibe that @revleonardpayne mentioned. Along with a subtle "ashtray" note that people have accused EA's Splendor of having (not that the smells are similar). If this was a dupe, I would say its a dupe of Gucci Bloom, but weirder, without the powder blast, drained of all sweetness, and heavier on the Tuberose. I get no Ylang-Ylang or Sandalwood. In fact, I would have guessed a ton of Orris and some type of strange non-aromatic wood. Don't avoid this because of my (potentially off-putting) review; I am sure most people would find this a simple, elegant, soliflore. Relatively impressed with the longevity of the heart and base notes; they survived a shower and valiantly defeated a spritz of the indomitable Lust by Lush (an infamous Beast Mode nose-burner). Projection and sillage are pretty average though, and the lovely top notes die down almost immediately. (Also, totally subjective and therefore not strictly relevant, but I must add that I gave my brand new bottle away within a few hours of buying it - I ADORE Tuberose but it LOATHES me. Practically the only note, aside from Petitgrain that, on my own skin, gives me a headache and turns my stomach. Still don't regret buying it though, if only for the few minutes of happiness it gave me before the migraine set in. I strategically gifted it to a family member so that I could appreciate it on them!)

I bought this perfume because of several opinions suggesting that it is a more unisex tuberose. First application and "oops! Not the tuberose I wanted". The tuberose in this scent has nothing in common with the appealing beach, tropical and slightly coconut tuberose that I know from several other compositions. Tubereuse Noir is incredibly intense, strong and suffocating at first. It is such a strongly scented floral toilet soap that my grandmother used to use. Over time it softens a bit, warms up, sometimes a floral sweetness breaks through, a bit of creaminess, but the scent is generally very cold, raw, bitter and a bit old-fashioned. It is still intoxicating and narcotic, but I have the impression that the tuberose here is too literal and raw, I miss a greater softening of its bitterness, sweetening. Ylang-ylang and sandalwood present here cannot break through with their creamy accent. It also has good parameters, especially projection. I don't know yet if Tubereuse Noir will stay with me, it's probably too much in the style of a mature woman, but I'll test it a few more times. Maybe in spring it will be better because it has the purity that white flowers often emanate. I really like tuberose, but I like it better when more notes in the composition fight to break through it. Quite a difficult scent, but I like challenges. Edit: Ok I get what you mean about the dirty note on the skin. Tuberose is a narcotic flower. I Like it! 8/10

This is not a tuberose like the “tuberose” bomb smell have I’ve been used to. The first thing that I get is fresh flowers, in a very refreshing way. It’s like literally walking into the most amazing flower store. Fresh, bright and clean. To me it doesn’t just smell like tuberose, and maybe not even just like white flowers, but like a symphony of different flowers. Literally, a flower store in a fragrance. On the skin, there is something that’s kind of dirty and animalic about it, which I love as well because it gives it a certain kind of edge. This review comes from me wearing it for the first time, only getting it today. Reading here that maceration makes it better definitely excites me. It kind of reminds me of my first impression of ‘Fleur de Patchouli’ where it’s a simplistic kind of fragrance. Classy, but without bells and whistles. I came to love FDP, but my first impression of TN is even more positive. So I’m curious to see where it will go with maceration. Also, longevity with this one is amazing!

I keep going back and forth between "like" and "love" for this fragrance. It smelled really pretty and sweet on the scent strip, cheerful and feminine. Couldn't resist purchasing. Upon trying it, the scent was pretty overpowering on my skin, and the Ylang Ylang note was a tad too strong for me. Tried layering with B&BW At the Beach, it kind of tone the sweetness/ylang ylang down a notch and added a little someth that I can't quite describe, which I liked. Tried it for the second time today, and found the smell beginning to grow on me. Still not fond of the initial burst but the dry down is really great. However... After just one hour it has become more of a skin scent and I can barely smell it ): wish the longevity/sillage was better, fleur de patchouli's from the same line was great!

A lovely tuberose quasi-soliflore, created by Jo Malone for Zara and well worth the price on eBay and other discounters. I like it as much, if not more than other tuberose-heavy fragrances I own. While not a masterpiece, it's an enjoyable perfume for white floral lovers. People with sensitivities to white florals, especially to tuberose should stay away. This is pretty potent at first, and though it calms down after a while, I imagine it would still be headache inducing. As for me, I like it very much, and think it compares favorably to many of the offerings in Jo's own line - not all of them, but many. PS - to me this clean. I don't get any indole at all. It also has good longevity and sillage, so there is no need to over spray.

There's nothing noir about this fragrance. It smells sweet, soapy and clean. As soon as I sampled it it reminded me of bubblegum. I do have a bottle of Prada Candy I got as a gift and since I'm not a huge fan of gourmands I prefer to layer it with Tuberose Angelica, by Jo Malone, to give it a floral kick. TN smells like a similar combination of flowers and candy. It reminds me of the book Lolita. It doesn't last long, 2 hours at most, and it's more of a skin scent. It's pleasant and a safe blind buy for tuberose fans, but as it's the case with most Jo Malone fragrances for me, I think I would rather have this as a body wash or body lotion instead of a perfume.

Is it difficult to understand why this perfume bottle is not noticed? In my opinion, Tubereuse Noir is Zara's second best scent after Elegantly Tokyo. This is a fresh, slightly green Tuberose, its petals have not yet fully bloomed, but it is incredibly beautiful and delicate. I was surprised that at such a low price, Zara could make such a fresh, high-quality floral scent. As expected only at Jo Malone, I will definitely buy a large bottle and enjoy its beautiful scent every day. Rating: 8/10, Tuberose fans should try it, don't miss it

This is Tuberose at its dirtiest! At first it smells very creamy and musty, slightly leaning towards more of a nutty texture. It settles down as the Ylang-Ylang starts to come through with its Banana milkshake like facet that’s so smooth and creamy it’s absolutely gorgeous. The Sandalwood rounds everything out by enhancing the creamy texture of the Tuberose and Ylang-Ylang. It is a mature fragrance but if you love white florals, it’s a must have! Layering this with spicy and woody scents would create an absolutely beautiful combo.

Smelling off the cap, I basically got a buttery banana like tuberose with a subtle dark edge. I was intrigued and about to buy the perfume. However, when I applied it to my skin, the base notes were very peppery and harsh. After a while, they subsided, and just the tuberose was left. I think Elegantly Tokyo smells almost the same, like 90% alike, but with better base notes. Therefore I would recommend that one over this. Smell: 7 out of 10 Strength: 7 out of 10 Feminine For reference, I'm female.

I’m a dude who believes that almost every perfume and cologne can be unisex, but this is leaning more towards a girlish, gentle and soft idea. My mom loves this so that gives you an idea on who the audience is. I sprayed this 11 in the morning and right now it is 9 in the evening, and I can still smell it pretty good. I’d say it would have its last breath at around 12 hours. Very nice floral, clean and soft scent. What I want my girlfriend (if I ever have one LOL) to smell like.

Against all odds, I like it! I went for the 10ml roller becuse I thought this wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I was wrong. I was biased because I had in mind Gucci Bloom in its original version, which I find too floral for my tastes. Tubereuse Noire is a tuberose soliflore composition but it never becomes that in-your-face indolic bomb. Might be described as understated lushness. I love to pair this cozy little gem with chunky jumpers.

The opening has a faint whiff of balmy sandalwood but after that it's all pure tuberose which is quite impressively natural and realistic esp at the price point (less than $20 for a whopping 90ml). In where I live tuberose scent is often associated with haunted graveyards and ghosts so I guess that's noir lol.

I'm personally a huge fan of tuberose, I love the way it's blended for Do Son and Gucci Bloom. This is a gorgeous scent in the lineup for Jo Malone x Zara, quite long lasting and great value for price. Especially love the ylang slang addition, very intoxicating and well-rounded fragrance!

Feminine and absolutely floral scent. I like it so much.I made a blind buy but I didn't regret. It smells like walking in a flower garden but this garden only have Tuberose and Jasmine. Sweet, creamy Tuberose and Jasmin mix. Reminds me spring time.💛

I’m not sure where the “noir” comes from in the title because it’s a pretty straightforward floral. It’s pretty, elegant and clean but not very interesting. This is something I would wear on a daytime date. It doesn’t last long at all.

This is a classical tuberose scent. It reminds me of Gucci Bloom but a bit watered down and not so heavy. The dry-down is nice. I like the smell of tuberose, but somehow I don't like to wear it on myself.

For a Zara perfume it's pretty excellent! A really qualitative tuberose , indolic , fresh, creamy ... unisex. It's a bargain and the best of Jo Malone for this brand with the gorgeous Leather Jardin

Beautiful leathery rubbery tuberose with a bit of smokiness, almost like dry tea leaves. True to its name, a dark tuberose scent. Really glad there's no pink fruity bubblegum creaminess here

Start with a smell of acrylic house paint, sorry not sorry, minutes later of that it's when the flower starts to come out, it's a white flower scent and the term "Noir" its a money grab one.

Clean tuberose, very similar to Elie Saab's Essence No. 9 Tuberose for 1/3 the pice! For me it lacks depth on its own, I think it's a good idea to layer it with other fragrances.

bright sunny tuberose, nothing “noir” about this. dry down is sooo good but longevity is maybe 2 hours. doesn’t smell like gucci bloom to me.

green tuberose, pretty and lineal, I purchased just to layer and amplify the green aspects of the flower of a few tuberose fragrances I own.

I'm a lover of white florals, big white florals, and anything with white flowers in the notes. So this is a simple one-note soliflore with low-to-moderate (maybe 2 hours?) longevity. If you're just wading in to white florals and aren't sure about tuberose, this is a great place to start. If you don't like it, it's gone from skin in 2-3 hours max. Maybe a bit longer on clothes. So it's a low-commitment white floral. :-) For me, the price (40ml) in $USD was good, but I'll probably sell it because I have other big, white florals that do the job better and last longer. Plus, after about 2 hours, I noticed an undertone of .... plastic? Something oddly synthetic in the dry-down. Not awful. Just weird. Also: as someone else below said: there is nothing "noir" about the tuberose in here. No oud, leather, or other masculine-leaning note(s) that would make the fragrance feel "noir" or dark. Not sure why they added the "noir" nomenclature. And also the person who mentioned the lack of adjective agreement with the noun it modifies: also spot-on! Tuberose is a feminine noun (uses "la") which means the noir should have an "e" at the end. But correct grammar these days (I'm looking at you, English native speakers), is often too much to ask for. Someone in the UK or Spain didn't do their French grammar homework..... :-)

Quite thin and sharp opening on my skin, borderline screechy, takes awhile for ylang-ylang to come out and when it does, its quite shy. Wood base is also cool, so overall its slightly damp/springfresh floral. Longevity is decent though. Depends on how you like your tuberose, so it may be a good thing that TN is not bubblegum sweet nor indolic, makes it appropriate for first non-scary dip into tuberose (I'm wearing Nasomatto V on the other hand right now and much much prefer slightly animalic lily-like nature and overall depth of Narcotic V.). Personally, I've struggled to finish my 10 ml of TN and will not re-purchase. Also, its weird to see Noir in the name, I see very cool lemon/lime yellow, even fluorescent fit instead of any dark colour. Jo Malone's Zara line was made for layering, and imho this one benefits greatly from additional base-layer. I've layered TN over Ebony Wood that I also can't wear alone, and these 2 work and perform better together than either one individually.

I just received my bottle today. At first sniff, I wasn’t too sure I liked it? After letting it sit on my skin for about 5 minutes, it hit me, it smells exactly like another fragrance I absolutely love, KKW Jeff Leathem Desert Rose! Exactly! It also smells like Bond No 9 Central Park West which I absolutely love. I get beachy, summery vibes from it. Woody white florals & the sweet ylang ylang make it perfect for summertime, day or night. I definitely think this is a subjective scent, you either will like it or hate it, so I wouldn’t recommend as a safe blind buy.

Very strong, linear tuberose. There's definitely nothing "noir" about this. I'm not sure why I convinced myself I'd like this. It's so, so similar to Diptyque Du Son, or Kim K's first perfume, and I don't like them. I think it's because I love the smell of jasmine, I keep thinking I will like tuberose as much. The longevity on this seems pretty good, sillage less so. If you're after tuberose on a budget I'd go with Kim Kardashian.

Not my favourite take on tuberose - slightly pompous and the kind of perfume you'd expect to find lingering in a home for the elderly, if that makes sense. The opening carries a very distinct powdery feel which becomes more subdued as the fragrance develops and becomes more wearable.

this is pretty standard tuberose. i like this more than gucci bloom because i hate jasmine. the opening was kind of harsh, i got an animalic amber but that went away quickly. dark green and tropical floral scent.

Competently formulated. For me, it’s a bit soapy and too sweet though. Update: 07/23/2023. I sprayed again. This time it does not come off too cloying. I think it would layer well with a dry rose perfume.

Very similar to Gucci bloom but not as strong. easier to use but not particularly impressive, mass, forgettable. No personal imprint, not suitable for hot summer.

Tuberose tends to be quite a divisive note in fragrance, given its intensity. Heady and old-fashioned, sometimes harsh, sometimes cloying, it needs to be handled adeptly to work. I was keen to try this iteration by the generally adept Jo Malone, but unfortunately, it is not a tuberose scent for me. Tubéreuse Noir (Shouldn't it be Noire? I'm not happy about this error in the name, but that's for another day) opens with a surprising blast of sweet yet fleeting ylang-ylang, joined by the strong, waxy tuberose a little later. The white floral accord is clean instead of indolic. The overbearing tuberose takes over, and is quite sharp, even harsh, with a hint of stem-like greenness. While the tuberose smells realistic, it is too harsh to be pleasant, even potentially headache-inducing. TN improves as it dries down, softening a little, with soft woody notes tempering the loud white florals somewhat. It fades to a woody-tuberose skin scent, but never quite relinquishes its sharpness. It is a simple, everyday white floral that is not cloying or synthetic, but its sharp corners make this scent fairly unpleasant overall. Better performance than the rest in this line. Blindingly white, there's nothing "noir" about this. 1.5/5.
