Unexpected Joy

story time: i went to return a couple items at zara in DC with my boyfriend. while in line, i sprayed unexpected joy. my first thoughts were, "oh, this is cute!", put it down and didn't really think anything of it. we left out of DC back to MD (DC traffic is no joke y'all) and the entire ride I COULD NOT STOP SMELLING MY WRIST!!! even my boyfriend could smell it from the drivers seat! unexpected joy lasted all day :O i was upset i wasn't able to grab a couple bottles for $13. we went to two zara locations in MD and none were in stock :( but it's okay because this upcoming sunday i'll be forcing my man to take me back to the DC location. jo malone has a gift!

Finally in my collection. I bought a back-up too. This is so good. If you like My Way, Prada Paradoxe, JPG's So Scandal you will appreciate this one. It's more candy-like than Sublime Epoque. I happen to love these main-stream-overdone scent profiles Out of the fragances I compared this to, this is the sweetest Longevity: 5-6 hours, completely ok in my book, it's not expensive you can decant and re-apply. I believe it can last a longer, just depends on your hormones

I'm so happy I have this. I sprayed it on me and it must have got the edge of my tank top and when I went to put it on again it smelled AMAZING and then I realized - it was Unexpected Joy by Jo Malone for Zara. Well blended. Great quality. Long lasting and gorgeous deep rich scent. It does bring me - as much as the happiness that Prada Paradoxe Intense gives me.

Overall, an ok scent. Something to spray on to smell pleasant. Without looking at the notes, I'd categorize it as a fruity scent. I detect some sweet, fruity, juicy notes with fresh cedar base. Nothing groundbreaking - I've smelled this scent profile before. Maybe even slightly generic. I do understand the references to Armani My Way, which wasn't my cup of tea. I find Unexpected Joy more pleasant than My Way, probably because it doesn't have an overpowering/suffocating quality. If you enjoyed Armani My Way, you may enjoy this scent as well. I would give it 4 on a scale of 1 to 6. I like the minimalistic bottle design.

I got it on sale last summer and at that price I find it more than recommended and very effective for everyday use. My mother loves to use it too. It is a citrus floral that gives a very nice clean feeling, making it very pleasant to wear. It is a sparkling and happy, luminous perfume, indeed very similar to My Way, with a sweet citrus opening in which the protagonist is bergamot and a drydown where citrus fruits are mixed with not at all sharp tuberose and vanilla. It has a moderate sillage and lasts 7-8 hours on my skin. Its sillage on me is better than the one of My Way, although I have only tried it from samples and never from a bottle that had had some maceration. I am very happy with Unexpected Joy as I really liked the smell of My Way for informal occasions, without being anything groundbreaking, but I was disappointed that it soom stayed close to my skin (projection was good only for around an hour on me). I bought it on the French Zara, I must say I don’t think it ressembles My Way at al..it is at first quite floral, even a bit sharp, then gets softer and a bit sweet..overall pleasant but no projection, like after 15 mn I can’t even smell it..so hard to recommend it, it is pretty, would make a nice gift, and it could be a jo Malone Cologne for sure..I have no regrets buying it, but I am not ouoverly impressed with it..just poor longevity..but I could easily wear it to bed..

Yes it does smell almost identical to my way. I dont get strawberry or watermelon which I was hoping for but what I do smell is cherry. It's really super sweet and I smell tuberose and not magnolia. I like it! I agree it's less "perfumey" than my way And is almost a more youthful take. It's like less musky.

I am only reviewing this because I tested Armani My Way Intense and I knew it smelt like something I had smelt before. Here I am 5 hours later when I had a light bulb moment. It smells almost exactly like Zara unexpected joy. Both have too much orange blossom for my liking.

So pretty, girly and fresh ! Perfect for spring and summer time ! A cologne version of My way. I note tuberose with other white flowers. A floral, fruity fresh scent ! Lovely 💜 for the price.
