*MUST LOVE VANILLA!* VERY vanilla & sweet, like bday cake. Despite the list, not getting any raspberry, tart rhubarb or a sparkly citrus champagne note, like anywhere. That doesn’t detract from it though! More prominent, they might’ve made it feel a tad less linear. (@hr 4, if I reach, I can almost get the idea of a hint of fruit, but if it were like raspberries & white choc buried in a cold vanilla ice cream cone) 15 - 20 min the sweet & wood gave me a fleeting instant of a very faint burning rubber smell or a bruised over ripe banana or the sweet smell of decaying magnolia/jasmine when they start to turn brown on the tree. It’s v vanilla 1st, and v powdery 2nd. musk, cashmeran & wood notes all work to make it even more powdery sweet vanilla. And the powdery sweet mimosa... there couldn’t be a more perfect floral note for this frag. stunning Was aptly named “Powder & Dust” by former brand/creator Sven Pritzkoleit of SP who went out of biz & sold the formula to Zoologist. I for one am glad they ended up with it so it could live on under a new identity bc i think I need it in my life - I keep catching whiffs of it hrs & hrs after sampled via 1/2 pump in 1 small area. 5-6 hours it’s a lovely sweet powder, still detect @6”. Vanilla has calmed a bit, but now get Hawaiian tropic sunkissed warm suntan lotion (or maybe it’s my Hawaiian shirt lol). That or nag champa? Ive sampled most Zoologist I wanted to & loved exploring them. Wish they were a tad cheaper lol But the frags are so impressive, last like crazy, detect @12-15hrs+. (All extrait or EDP), accessible & wearable scents, I don’t think they’re too niche at all. No wonder they keep winning awards! I’ve found sooo many fbw faves: cow! Elephant, nightingale, chameleon, hummingbird, camel, got bee, & now Cockatiel!

Just got my hands on a sample of the Zoologist version of this. I never smelled the original--Powder and Dust--so not sure if there was any reformulation. Even if there was, the points brought up in the reviews on the Powder and Dust page still hold. There is a weird (and yes, somewhat unpleasant) note in the opening. I've never smelled anything like this note before, so I can't identify it. It doesn't resemble any of the listed notes, but maybe it's the "dust/powder?" Having said that, it's not like any other powder note I've smelled in any other perfume. It was off-putting the first and second time I tried it, but after testing it a few times, I'm oddly fascinated by it. Zoologist lists patchouli as a base note here. My skin usually turns patchouli into a sharp, twangy, b.o./armpit odor if there's too much of it. Luckily, that doesn't happen with this one. The dry down morphs into a crystal clear mimosa on me. Everything else falls away by the 2-3 hour mark. The initial spray is challenging, and I would say "not office friendly," but the dry down is glorious. If you're into Zoologist in general, I could see this being a first cousin to Chameleon--which is a ride or die scent for me, now. They both had an off-putting, foreign opening to my nose at first, which took a while for me to "get used to," and they both dry down into an addictive floral on my skin. The scent journey for both is similar to my nose, even though they don't smell the same. It took a few times wearing this, but I've officially become obsessed with the uniqueness of it and will end up springing for a full bottle once it's released.

What a stunner! I don’t really get the reviews saying Cockatiel is super animalic and challenging. As a true Sydneysider, this is the fragrance I need! This is the essence of Sydney in spring. Coloured birds, mimosas, palms and flowing Champagne. The scent is gorged with a Rhubarb tartness which is incredibly realistic. Not cloyingly but acid sweet, sour and crisp. Like a beautiful Rhubarb pie, and in its base is a vanilla custard. I can’t wait for October to wear this on Wooloomooloo wharf sipping on Champagne, with my lemon-coloured jacket, sunshine on my face and only good to come. I have already received multiple compliments from this scent and my husband loves it! 🎶 I’ll take you to my place to be, It’s not LA, it’s not Miami, Where sun’s so bright that it stings my eyes, Vacation vibes on a City life. Blondies in cheeky bikinis, Holding martinis, bellinis. Sydney’s fun from the Sydneysiders, Ocean’s water and zenith is fire. Elevated white parties that takes you higher, Penthouse balconies that views the whole shire. 🎶 Is a song I’ve written for Cockatiel.

My NYE scent this year! It's primarily a musky, cashmere scent on me with a tart rhubarb/raspberry note that adds the pizzazz. It's not super sweet on the skin. It's powdery, but like if you took champagne and turned it into dust? It tickles your nose. The cashmere, musk, and guaiac wood make it more of a chilly spring scent for me. I love rhubarb and the notes list had me giddy. This was top of the list when I got to visit a niche boutique in London on vacation. Zoologist scents are complex, so I came home with a sample. I may get a travel size of this. There is something in this that allllllmost gives me a headache, but it's so interesting that almost doesn't matter. I typically am more sensitive to fruity fragrances. I cannot stress the importance of sampling Zoologist fragrances! They are complex and transform through wear. The actual experience is always so different from how I imagine them, but they're always a joy to get to know!

The opening is rough, but the dry down becomes better and better as time goes on. At first, Cockatiel is a strange powdery floral, but not powdery like makeup, more like dried flowers and powered wood. On my skin, vanilla becomes the dominant note, and I'm not really getting the fruity notes. Yeah, this is definitely a unique, dry, woody vanilla. Cockatiel is one of my favorites from Zoologist! Edit--Now the patchouli is starting to show up. The dry down reminds me of Prada Amber for her with dry dusty wood, weirdness, and mimosa. Maybe there is a little Vanille Insensee in there too. Edit--Cockatiel is so good--an amazing vanilla incense! To me this fragrance reminds me of the warm, sweet, dryness of late summer and another Zoologist offering, Bee. Both Bee and Cockatiel are sweet and mass appealing, but edgy at the same time. 4.5/5

I had zero positive expectations of Cockatiel based on the animal (as strange as that sounds, but for example Tyrannosaurus Rex seemed like a win before sniffing) and the notes on Zoologist’s website. And I absolutely love it! I think it’s a work of art. If you’re into textures and textural fragrances this is a must try. The tart rhubarb stays for just long enough to get your mouth watering (not kidding) before a fluffy ever so microscopically toasted (I think this is from a trace, faint nearly imperceptible wisp of guaiac which I smelled before seeing the note list) mimosa vanilla marshmallow shawl wraps it up and takes over the show. For me, more than specifically powdery, Cockatiel feels fluffy, and maybe dusty, like a vanilla marshmallow dust. What a weird and fantastic surprise. Instant love.

I wasn’t expecting to love this as much as I do, as I’m not the biggest fan of sweet scents. The opening is sparkling sweet and sour rhubarb dusted with powdered sugar, which I can see being off-putting to some, but which I find intriguing. The dusty powder quality along with the sweet/sour rhubarb facet prevent this from becoming too young, bright, and cloying. It lends it a slightly mournful feel. Like Marie Antoinette in exile. It dries down to a very pleasant vanilla-powder-raspberry-woods scent that is both comforting and contemplative, youthful and mature. @kentucking's review "makes you smell like a sunbeam filtering through a study, illuminating a pitcher of cold lemonade sitting upon an old, loved and worn antique coffee table" is dead on. Definitely in my top 10 Zoologist scents!

Love this quite a lot on paper, and have no idea what the reviewers getting rotting smells are coming from (but then again, my partner got nothing but cough syrup from it so this must have some illusive and divisive aromachemicals!). To me, this is one of the most beautiful vanillas I've ever smelled, elevated by the champagne, raspberry, and cashmeran. The rhubarb is nice and fresh as the top. I keep imagining a nice Tahitian vanilla ice cream with a pinch of salt and olive oil, which might be my favorite way of enjoying a vanilla ice cream. Can't wait to try on skin. Edit: Both on blotter and skin, upon drydown, this veered too much into aforementioned cough syrup territory. I love how it starts off so I'll try it on skin a couple more times to see how I'm feeling.

cool so i love love LOVE this scent. Between this, Signature by Aedes de Venusta, Encore un Peu by Alex Simone and flou-ral by Nomenclature, I've collected quite a few rhubarb bombs. This is the most punk rock rhubarb to me, even with the vanilla. I love how dusty and dry it is. I love how musky it is. People say it's rubbery. I guess? sure. why not. I smell a dusty, grassy savannah baking in the hot afternoon sun - very organic actually. Problem: My husband smelled it from half a room away and had a visceral negative reaction. He didn't realize it was perfume, he thought something in the house was just very very wrong. He opened a window to air it out. I kept quiet. Not great, not exactly what I'm going for. Ok so I wear it when he's gone. Thats it thats the review.

Love at *second* sniff! First time I sprayed this on a piece of paper, I thought it smelled like burnt plastic. However, the dry down turned to be more fruity, so I decided to test on skin. Sprayed it on my wrist and had a different experience. The opening is tart, I definitely get the rhubarb note. Then, the scent turns into such an interesting smoky/woody raspberry. The light smoke gives it maturity. It reminds me of eating sweet raspberries by a fire in the woods on a cold, sunny morning, while snuggled in a cashmere blanket. I recommend giving this perfume some time to develop on the skin before judging. Not a safe blind buy, but worth sampling! I can't get enough of this smoky raspberry cloud around me, and will definitely get a full bottle of this.

Seeing this sample sitting at the top of my order when I opened my package, alongside a personalized note from Victor himself, made me laugh - my pet cockatiel was perched on my chair at that very moment. I'm not quite an enthusiast of jammy, sweet fragrances but this is divine and full bottle worthy. It's not cloying at any stage: at opening, rhubarb lends a vegetal and sour quality to the raspberry/mimosa marriage here, and at dry down the champagne note maintains a sparkling, fizzy balance to the gentle sweetness. It's innocent and ever so slightly earthy. It's cute like my pet cockatiel's orange cheeks, sassy like his mohawk, and musky like the powder on his feathers.

this perfume is like being a young person going to a symphony or opera with all of your uncles and aunts. at intermission, all if you stream into the powder room of the historic concert hall. setting powder and perfume and the slight smell of sweaty silk fills the air as they pass you candies in closed hands as if they were contraband, eyes crinkling in the clamor of sweet arguments and gossip, opinions and obsessions. to me, this perfume is incredibly pleasant and pleasurable, both mature and youthful, heady and understated. this feels like an excellent crisp-weather scent, perfect for an evening street fair or café concert!

This has been my signature scent for almost a year by now and I'm not planning to switch to something else. It opens with some sort of dusty mimosa, dirty powder and fizzy fruity scent, probably from the "champagne" note. Anyhow I love wine notes in perfumes so :) The dry down is sweet, a tad sour, powdery. Hard to describe but nothing excessive in my opinion. My nose is not good enough to describes very well done this one but to me it's pure happiness and cheerfulness. It's not as strong and long lasting as most Zoologist perfumes though :( This is the only minus. The bottle is so cute. I am sold.

powdery vanilla with the warm earthiness of guaiac wood and pachouli, all brightened up with a light, sweet (but not cloying) fruitiness from the top notes. this fragrance captures the sunny, quirky personality of cockatiels and makes you smell like a sunbeam filtering through a study, illuminating a pitcher of cold lemonade sitting upon an old, loved and worn antique coffee table. perfect for any time, any season, any occasion. went through my sample and i immediately bought a full bottle- and was lucky enough to be able to snag the special edition! overall *very* happy about this fragrance.

Cockatiel opens with a raspberry and rhubarb note that stays till just before the dry down. On my skin Cockatiel almost flows from the top notes to the base notes, with vanilla and sandalwood becoming more noticeable until they dominate in the ultimate dry-down, nicely supported by the cashmeran. The rhubarb may seem to be a discordant note when compared to the rest of the perfume, but I love how it "harmonizes" with the rest of the notes. Outstanding length and sillage. It lasts until the next day on clothes. Cockatiel is like an "easy" Zoologist, but with an edge. Major love from me.

Extremely sweet and fruity. One of the most youthful scents I have ever smelt. The powdery vanilla gives it a light, airy and edible aspect that I can only compare to dainty Hors d'oeuvres at a cocktail party. The only negative aspect of this perfume is it's strength, similar to BR540 it is so sweet it can be headache inducing and cause noseblindness, at least for me. It's also too feminine for most men to wear. Interestingly this isn't actually a zoologist creation but rather a rebrand of "Powder and Dust" by SP Parfums instead of a unique creation inspired by an animal.

So interesting reading the comments because I am not getting what you all are getting. This smells divine from first spray to me. Yummy bright raspberry, dusted with vanilla powdered sugar. I’m not a sweet fragrance fan, but this smells so sweet and yummy to me, AND YET I actually enjoy wearing it. Maybe the tartness balances it out and that’s why I actually like it. I bought a 10ml travel spray after sampling but now I’m wondering if I should have gone for the full bottle. Only time will tell. This is not my typical fragrance profile so I am delightfully surprised.

This smells of mulberry wood smoke initially. One of my most favorite smells come fall. Then it transitions and the raspberry is ever subtly present. The mimosa in this is glorious finally giving way to a semi sweet vanilla soft musky base. This scent lingers for days on textiles and wears easily for 8 to 10 hours. This is going to carry me thru the winter months. One of my new all time Zoologist favorites. Thank you Victor for never compromising on the quality and uniqueness of your fragrances.

OKAY hear me out - this smells exactly like some scented toy from my childhood - I want to say those dolls that you would fold up their skirt and they become a cupcake. Also reminds me of rubber pool toys from childhood trips to Florida. So yeah I get the plastic-y rubbery vibes but it also happens to strongly activate some very positive nostalgia receptors for me. This was the first Zoologist scent I tried and it did not disappoint. It's super weird and unique but very wearable for me.

To me, it smells like a Russian bathhouse on a summer day with freshly made birch bath whisks and a hot raspberry tea with sweet berries and leaves that awaits you after a session. If you've ever experienced it, you'd remember the smell of these whisks when you pour boiling water over them, and the scent of heated wooden walls. I pick up something slightly earthy as well, like decaying autumn leaves. Somehow this scent is hot July and gloomy October at the same time
