Mystere

Can't agree with MonkeyBars statement of Mystere being based on Terre d'Hermes. Terre d'Hermes was launched in 2006 when Mystere is known since 1990s, at least 15 years before that. I use it as the closest version of my beloved Coriandre by Jean Couturier, as it happend to become a total disaster since reformulation.

I have a smallish spray bottle of the perfume version, and it's definitely strong. I'm surprised none of the reviewers is familiar with the fragrance Mystere is based on, the masculine Terre d'Hermes. But this is a variation on the theme with a big violet leaf accord right in the opening – which is actually a terrific idea, in my opinion! Edit: I stand corrected! Perhaps Ellená was inspired by Mystere, since it apparently predates Terre d'Hermes by many years. There's an ozonic quality not unlike vintage Fahrenheit (likely due to the inclusion of molecules now proscribed in the EU) It's much greener therefore than the parched-earth citrus-spicy-woody journey of Terre. As the top fades, the Terre character is definitely clear. The heart basically matches my memory of Terre, without the nutty heart accord – in fact, it's more like Byredo's Sunday Cologne / Fantastic Man and even mostly lives up to its penetrating intensity, perhaps with slightly less depth. This is WAY cheaper, though. The pyramid lists rose, and I do get a slight, very dry centifolia vibe. Patchouli is subtle as expected – I might not have even called its presence which makes me think it's just one or two odorants or a fractionation, not a natural material. I do get the coriander, which I think is in Terre as well with its lemony-woody character tying together the citrus of the head to the vetiver in the base. Very enjoyable drydown with the expected vetiver-ceder accord and light haze of musk and likely lots of Iso E. Perhaps slightly drier than Terre, although the drydown has some amber peeking through. Longevity might even match Terre and Sunday Cologne, though this accord is notoriously anosmic to the wearer – the musk is actually quite prominent in the drydown and perhaps of a softer quality. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase. I didn't get any off notes or performance issues, and the concept of a Terre plus violet leaf appeals to me even more than the original! Recommended, especially for the price.

I have a small 16 ml rectangular bottle from 2019. It's a nice bittersweet (more bitter than sweet) rose chypre, think Panthere Cartier. I like the top and the middle notes. The base evaporates from skin without a trace (luckily!), but if it lingers on clothes or hair, it turns unpleasantly sour. This is the main negative point about this perfume - it's drydown on clothes. The projection in the first hour is okay, about an arm's length, then it sits closer to skin. Luckily the bottle is small, so I can carry it with me to reapply. And the price is fantastic!

Mystere (Tayna) reminds me of the old discontinued Fendi and of Aromatics Elixir. Over the years, it has been reformulated, but it is still very potent and definetely a chypre. There is some sour facet to it which I don't enjoy that much, a weird juxtaposition of cold and warm notes, just like the Russian winter. I'd recommend buying the pure perfume spray. Not expensive at all.

I like this fragrance most of all by this brand. First it opens like Coriandre by Jean Couturier. But then a beautiful feminine sillage appears! Coriander slowly becomes softer and rose, close to the lipstick, softened by the violet leaves note, starts to lead. I really like its very soft, feminine and noble sillage. It's a case when a fragrance smells much expensive than its price. Also it's really long-lasting. Very good job!

Well, well, well. Today I had a very interesting olfactive experience, or, should I say, adventure. I visited the biggest shop of this brand in Moscow, and tried many perfumes there. Almost all of them, actually. Mystere was one worth mentioning, the other one was Patchouli d`or (see my review at appropriate page, please). The other 30 or 40 smells that I tried were just waste of my time and my nose forces. So, Mystere. It opened with a bitter Artemisia. Then it was aoud, pure aoud, more aoud. Once it settled, my nose detected lavender, very cold and clear lavender. Finally it became a symphony of aoud (still playing the main note), very intense olibanum, lavender, moss, and very modest patchouli at the back. I sprayed it on my wrist 4 hours ago, the smell is still there! It`s a very good ratio quality-price. It`s rare that one can find a perfume, not an EDT or EDP for such a low price. Try it, it`s worth trying!

I cannot believe I loved this several years ago! This perfume is just vile. If it weren't so heavy on alcohol and the ingredients weren't so cheap, it would be a decent rose chypre. Maybe my bottle has expired, but from what I remember the scent hasn't changed. I just found that over half the bottle had evaporated and I decided to spray what's left on my closet curtain. It was a big mistake. My eyes were burning, and the strong smell of alcohol was literally hurting my nostrils!

Super sweet flowers, bitter saffron-like notes. Bitter and super sweet all in one. I don't know what the listed notes have to do with it, but it's a weird, wood-heavy blend with that honeyed back. Not my thing at all and came as a spray sample (for $2, I'm not worried) but the site shows a cute mini bottle

Deep, rich amber, very comfort, perfect in rainy autumn days. Very good silage and super good price. I really like this fragrance.
