Ozone

Writing this review for the new ozone (2023). A masculine leaning unisex summer fragrance. This fragrance has one of the best scent trails I have ever experienced with more than 8+ hours of longevity. It opens with a blast of citrus with slightly minty undertones, as the top notes fade the coconut + ambroxan in the middle really shine. The mocha isn’t really noticeable but it’s definitely there... it adds a sort of depth to the fragrance which I really love. The coconut isn’t overly sweet or cloying unlike most coconut fragrances and is absolutely superb for somebody who is a fan of coconut! As the middle notes fade the ambergris and patchouli in the base really come forward with the saltiness of the driftwood in the background. This fragrance is very heavy on the ambergris so if you are not a fan of ambergris it is not for you! It’s not your typical summer scent. Notes are: Top notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Lime, Spearmint Middle notes: Ozone / Coconut / Mocha Accord / Ambroxan Base notes: Ethical Ambergris, White Musk, Driftwood, Patchouli. Projection: 8.5/10 (as stated earlier this fragrance has one of the best scent trails I have ever experienced not overly strong but just enough for everyone around to smell you and appreciate your scent!). Longevity: 8.8/10 (Still projects after 8+ hours of wear). Scent: 9.5/10, possibly one of my favourite fragrances of all time. Mass appeal: 7/10, I don’t really think this fragrance is mass appealing due to the unique combination of notes, I could see how some people might really dislike it. Overall: 9/10, One of the best fragrances from one of my favourite houses of all time, this is 1 of 4 Aaron Terence Hughes fragrances I own and will definitely not be my last! An absolute gem that’s very underrated!

This just doesn't hold on to my skin Ozone is a fantastic fresh fragrance, it's an excellent lime scent with a hint of peppermint freshness and a subtle creamy coconut. Closer to skin there's a more noticeable muskiness from the ambergris. I can kind of see the similarities with Virgin Island Water, but this is missing the sugariness of the Creed and the rum note. Unlike the Creed, however, Ozone doesn't have an intolerably screechy lime note that irritates my throat, so I immediately like this better. Perfect scent for spring and especially summer. Performance, on the other hand, is abysmal. Projection and sillage seem to be the same as the rest of his fragrances (that I've tried so far), but longevity is incredibly bad on my skin. Two sprays on my forearm are almost completely gone in less than 2 hours, which is crazy considering the overwhelming majority of votes are in the "long lasting" mark. (EDIT/UPDATE: I wore Ozone again a few weeks later and longevity was excellent, it lasted 12 hours with relative ease. Now I can confirm my claims of poor performance with ATH fragrances were caused by nose blindness. I also adore the scent after a second wear). Worth mentioning I have a 10 ml bottle, which doesn't have a pressurized atomizer like his 50 ml bottles. This wouldn't be the first ATH where I get a shorter longevity than average, but the gap here is gargantuan compared to the others. Like I said in my Raw Cherry review, not sure if his fragrances benefit from further maturation, so I'll keep it in its small cylinder for the time being.

This review is of the "new" formulation available in late 2023. This is joyful, so unique. It's a blast of coconut/lime/mint, electrified with aldehydes and a relatively restrained dose of ambroxan, blended just so. It's far from my well-worn path. To make an analogy to my musical interests, I play acoustic, this is a synthesizer - yet the music is good and I'll be grooving to it. Ozone is unabashedly casual, summery, uplifting, and relaxed. It smells like vacation. As such, definitely a special-purpose fragrance, one I sprayed on with anticipation when a rare warm Saturday in autumn finally came up. I'd never wear this in a professional setting, but I'm grateful to have it as a complement to my usual buttoned-up stuff. This fragrance is pretty linear. Its performance is moderate and definitely on the low end of ATH frags (which tend to be big performers). At spray, its projection is average-to-generous, but at 8.5 hours, it's not much more than a skin scent. I usually only give a 4/5 for frags that smell great but don't quite achieve all-day performance; I'm making an exception here given the clarity of purpose and originality of Ozone. At time of writing, it's my fragrance of choice on a warm day of recreation.

I don't agree with this being a Summer scent, it does have some elements one would attribute to a summer fragrance like the lime, the coconut, a fair amount of ambroxan, drift wood, etc... it sure sounds like a Virgin Island Water type of scent (some people even marked it as a similar fragrance) but this couldn't be further from reality. Ozone does open with an Ozonic vibe, heavy ambrox and a hint of coconut and lime here and there but they won't last for long eventually you'll end up with those moka notes that can be overpowering on a scorching hot summer day. To paint you a picture, I'm wearing it today and my wife just smelled the drydown and ask if I was wearing a Mugler. I wouldn't go as far as comparing this to a Mugler (she did) but I understand where she's coming from, this is creamy, has some coffee vibe... Is it good? it's amazing! I just rather wear this on spring days or beginning of autum where it's still warm or perhaps during a summer evening when it starts to cool off. Performance is real good, it's an ATH so you know what to expect.

I am surprised this one isn’t discussed more. I have the reformulated 2023 and it’s my longest lasting freshie and, off my skin, projects really well without crossing over the edge. And it even works as a fantastic base to layer other fragrances with. I’ve been wearing a lot during this chilly spring and find there’s something new I like each day. It fits somewhere between niche and something more commercial and I didn’t care for my test spray initially so it sat for while. But I’ve soon discovered it’s indispensable. Of the 8 ATH fragrances I’ve tried, this is by far the most wearable day to day. Guapo is ok, but there’s something earthy I can’t do everyday. Maverick is truly inoffensive but doesn’t have that all-season versatility. The ouds are all nice, but for nighttime only. And while I love Homme, that orris note is fierce. Definitely not a grab and go. But Ozone is easy. If there was one I could choose for ATH to make in a 100ml size it would be Ozone.

Ozone was always "okay" for me... until now. Maybe it's the seasonal change, but for me, this didn't work in the summer. It was an automatic "product cleaner" scent. It instantly made me think of someone mopping the floors, and it was an instant nope. But in the winter everything is different. The ozonic notes were always there. But now. I get more of the lime with a hint of coconut and they pull the fragrance in a much better direction. I actually think I'll be wearing this now. PS. ATH fragrances are hard to get in the US, and that makes it pricier. You CAN however find 10ml bottles for roughly $55 on the gray market. And avoid eBay because those guys really like to price gouge.

Aaron Terrence Hughes is an amazing perfumer, using quality natural ingredients and masterful blending of aromachemicals. I also agree that it smells of spearmint gum but that description is not the full picture. The sillage doesnt scream spearmint gum. This is only a facet, imo. The citruses are all very lively, as is usually the case in ATH fragrances. Sweet but not too sweet, just right. Also get a bit of a coconut accord and on the drydown a salt water ocean accord that I suspect is from the ambergris. (I do find it unusual that he uses real ambergris in this but it surely works well.)

Long lasting - yep Compliments - yep Price - hell no!! This is the 1st I have tried from ATH and as much as I love it it's 90 bucks for 10ml now. He discontinues his frags quick and makes purchases unavailable to the US at times. Also many complained about his 50ml bottles breaking during transit for quite some time now. With that being said this is just awesome. Summer in a bottle and the skin note is noticeable. Great Creed VIW alternative as it has more sparkle and shine.

Incredible. I don’t usually blind buy but I make exceptions for the house of ATH since they sell 10ml’s and it has paid off for the second time. Unique, fresh & uplifting. Perfect hot weather scent. As with all ATH fragrances it’s potent; the performance is superb. It lasts much longer than you’d expect for such a fresh fragrance and it leaves a great scent trail. Bought 10ml for £18 which when you consider the performance is a bargain

I bought this thinking it was a fresh & airy summer fragrance, but it's not. It's quite dense and heavy, which I prefer to wear on colder days. I smell lime and coconut on the initial spray, but these fade away quickly leaving a creamy coffee and a sexy musk that lasts very long on my skin and even longer on my clothes. I will be wearing this a lot this Spring. It's a very comforting fragrance.

I really don't like freshies at all. I love this. It's so clean, fresh and invigorating. I keep catching wafts of spearmint (even though it's listed as peppermint) and it's just delightful. Also has a woody kick somewhere in there, kinda reminds me of a minty Allure Homme Sport or Virgin Island Water.

Was not sure on first application but after wearing this and giving it some time I would highly recommend. The blend is rather raw in my humble opinion and it is very addictive. It is this raw blend which gives you layer after layer of varying notes. Amazing longevity and great sillage.

Beast Mode. Fill the room? I freakin' filled the outdoors when I was walking up to my friend's house. Ambroxan, Clean, Coconut, Mint, Cocoa drydown... Major compliments, girls go (coco) nuts. Lasts forever, Hot Summer Boy forever Stay breezy, 10/10

smells like a candied version of Virgin island water, both definitely have a place in the fragrance world but i wish this would be a liiiiittle less sweet

Quite enjoy this one. Airy mint with a hint of lime. Somehow reminds me of PDM Greenly although not as sharp. Strong performance like most from ATH.

That’s unfortunate for you US folks. Here in the UK it’s £18 for 10ml, and it’s worth every penny.

Just received a tester of Ozone... I sprayed it and immediately engaged with my higher self.

Light fresh easy to wear with a good projection!

This is arguably the best smell ATH has created and it has gone under the radar. It’s a unique hit of summer in a bottle. The opening is very minty, like smelling a pack of spearmint gum, but then the coconut begins to come through to balance it out and it’s not nauseatingly powerful like other coconut scents such as Le Beau or Boss Bottled Pacific. The mocha accord is very subtle and not very noticeable to me but the skin accord is definitely there as I get that freshly sun-kissed tone. It’s something a bit different for summer. It’s not zesty and citrusy, or strong pina colada coconut, or sun lotion, it’s in a category of its own. I personally love this fragrance and it makes me think of that time of day in the height of summer when the sun is starting to go down and you still have your sunglasses on, the temperature is starting to get cooler and the smell of your skin is radiating upwards from a day in the rays. Fresh, minty, a little sweet from the coconut. Uplifting and balanced. Try it. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 8/10 Projection: 8/10 Versatility: 5/10 Price: 7/10 Overall: 7.4/10
