Kyoto

Kyoto is classified in Fragrantica's notes as Woody Spicy. I'd suggest this sits better in the Fruity Woody family although there's a waft of incense smoke and spice in the mix too. The notes above list plum wine as a top note and when I first applied it, I found plum to be the most prominent note but couldn't detect a wine note.I received Kyoto as Scent Social's June drop (Buckle Up edit) and they suggest that the perfume is inspired by umiboshe plums, which are pickled and sour. This doesn't smell sour to me but it's not a sweet, jammy plum. It's tart, fresh and bursting with flavour. The fruity plum starts to recede into the mix quite quickly and the woods and incense come more to the fore as the perfume settles down and melds with my skin. The sillage is moderate; it can be smelled by someone at arm's length but not across a room. Scent Social suggests that Kyoto would be a good choice for anyone who’s cried themselves to sleep after seeing the eye-watering prices of Tom Ford’s much missed Plum Japonais. I haven't tried TFPJ, so I can't comment but I mention it in case it's helpful to other Fragranticans. The only other woody plum perfume I can think of is Feminite du Bois by Serge Lutens. Kyoto is not a dupe. Although there is a family ressemblance, Kyoto is richer. To me, Feminite du Bois is quite a dry perfume - dry like fino sherry, not dessicated or shrivelled like a prune. Kyoto is warmed by traces of nutmeg and cinnamon - tending a little more towards an amontillado than a fino. Since I first tried it, Kyoto has really grown on me. It comes across to me as subtle, distinctive and very well-crafted. For an artisan brand, the price isn't bad. This is the first Adscenture perfume I have tried and the quality of Kyoto encourages me to try their discovery set.

I feel I must preface this review with a disclosure: I currently have the stupid adult chicken pox and my sense of smell is operating at a deficit. Disclaimer given, I will now proceed to make several wildly inaccurate comparisons and claims. The first time I smelled Bibliotheque by Byredo I was left angry and appalled that anyone would associate a library with the smell of plum jam wiped on dirty trousers. I couldn't understand how the scent of plums could ever reference academia. Now that I've smelled Kyoto, I begin to understand. This is woodsy and deep and recalls taking a sauna after spending the day reading some sort of breathtakingly rendered fantasy novel: say Robin Hobb or Erin Morgenstern or Emily St. John Mandel (yeah 3 female fantasy authors of distinction, wanna fight me about it? Go ahead I'm contagious). It is dark and layered and yet somehow also clean and calm. It feels like old paper and scrubber wood and Victoria plums still warm from the early autumn sun. It does remind me quite strongly of Molton Brown's Muddled Plum, which is also delightful to my personal olfactory palate. I feel a great affection for Kyoto, not least because it's the first thing I've been able to smell at all in over a week, but also because it has erased the damage done ot me by Byredo and their scabby plum accord. I likes it.

Very nice nothing to crazy with this let it dry down and you will get a soft fruit like smell with plenty of white floral smells mixed with a delicate soft warm wood something like fruit tree forest with white flowers scatted and the sun amping up the scent in the air top 3 from this house

Che piacevole novità sono i profumi Adscenture! Fragranze originali e piacevoli a vedersi nelle loro bottiglie in vetro ognuna delle quali ha un etichetta con immagini che evocano un tempo passato ma sempre attuale. Questo profumo in particolare si ispira ad una città giapponese che non conosco ma che posso solo immaginare attraverso questo odore come un luogo magico,surreale,dove il profumo dei fiori si confonde con l'odore dei legni dei templi e dove le geishe,nei loro abiti tradizionale,preparano i sake'. Le note di apertura le distinguo perfettamente e la nota alcolica non disturba,anzi,sbalordisce. Le altre note si miscelano,si confondono in un tripudio di piacevoli sensazioni. Peccato che ha una persistenza limitata nel tempo,ma a parte ciò, buonissimo il rapporto qualità prezzo.
