Indigo

Ooh I really like this one and it is very wearable despite the notes pyramid suggesting a more avant garde scent. It bears similarities to Muse by YSL which I also own and love but they are different enough to own both if love the scent profile that is. I don’t think it smells like Naked Dance, I don’t like that fragrance. To me Naked Dance was very earthy smelling. This isn’t earthy at all. Indigo for me is dusty powdery iris, lavender, soft musk, warm sandalwood. All of which come together and make a beautiful cocooning scent that lasts a long time. I wore it to bed and woke up and I could still smell it whafting off me. I was surprised by that as most of her fragrances don’t last very long for me. It’s not a loud projector by any means but it projects well for a while within your bubble which is fine by me. I actually got a couple compliments on it the few times I’ve worn it out so far and I get compliments on Muse all the time so makes sense, they both are very pleasing to smell. About the denim and asphalt aspect, I don’t smell those necessarily but I get the vibe. It’s a fragrance that to me is very cool and chic, very casual. I think it wears well in warm weather but probably would in cooler weather as well. Unisex.

This is a lovely, creative fragrance that lasts on skin. The asphalt is a beautiful old road with a slightly dusty smell, not like Yuzuyakuza that leans into the tar notes. The jeans accord is also amazing, going from an indigo dye smelling pair of selvedge jeans to a soft old pair of overwashed jeans as the powdery orris comes into prominence. The lavender is present, anchoring the fragrance from becoming too powdery, but also making it entirely unisex and appropriate for any season. After about six hours of pronounced wear you get to the slightly musky sandalwood note that cocoons you in comfort. Longevity and sillage are great if you're into that, 6 hours of noticeable projection and 2 more as a skin scent, but the true art of this fragrance is the ability to capture a memory. It really tells the story of a day off walking around in a pair of jeans, carefree and clean, and for that it earns my recommendation.

I'm really happy about this one. I've been a huge Andrea Maack fan (Entrance, supernova, soft tension, zing.... all gorgeous) and truthfully have been pretty bummed by some of her latest releases - falling a little predictable/mainstream. Indigo was a resurgence of hope in this house for me! I agree, the soft buttery orris & lavender really shine and carry this one. Mind you, these notes don't usually interest me, but paired with this suedey/demin & asphalt: it just is so cool. I totally get the asphalt on the top and in the best way. This literally smells like pulling out your demin jacket as soon as spring hits to walk down the road to just look cool. It's being in the city with messy hair, your favorite sunglasses and not texting back because you decide to buy a vintage end table at the outdoor market instead.

Indigo by Andrea Maack 👖 A quick note to myself: I didn't read the notes first. I just saw that it was Andrea Maack's new release and grabbed a sample right away. This is a woody floral musk, but don't worry, no asphalt here. To me, it smells like a blue-toned iris with a soft, melancholic depth. It truly feels like a tribute to denim, reimagined as a scent, and that concept is very accurate. 👖 As it develops, sandalwood and soft musk take over, adding warmth, gentle woods, and a skin-like softness. Dusty, understated, and surprisingly pleasing. But no "wow" factor. I actually like Indigo better than Naked Dance (which I own). Oops. 🫣 Performance: soft projection, and longevity didn't stretch past 4 hours on my skin.

This is a really fun one. On my skin the first half mostly reminds me of vintage Dior Homme Intense, the last half dries down and is very similar to Bvlgari Black. I don't get blue jeans or asphalt, maybe the hint of asphalt, but def not blue jeans. I would only wear in cold months of the year. Beautiful fragrance which took me by surprise, I hope to try out her entire line, highly recommended!
