God Is A Woman

Jérôme Epinette is the man. He absolutely deserves the kind of recognition Quentin Bisch and Francis Kurkdjian get. Some create perfume. He creates memorabilia. And while I obviously cannot vouch for all of his creations, from what I've tried I've come to expect otherworldly and well put together fragrances whether they're for Byredo or, well, for Ariana Grande. They have a certain air of sophistication about them that people usually look for in MFK releases in which I personally find none at all. But Jérôme Epinette creates it rather effortlessly, and even if I cannot appreciate the scent itself due to individual notes I'm averse to, I won't dispute it being an intricate, well-blended perfume. And most importantly, while his style might be recognizable to a trained nose, his works don't really have something that screams the name of their creator in a very in-your-face manner as is often the case with Quentin Bisch (no offence though, I like quite a few of his fragrances too.) So I'm happily adding GIAW to my small collection of Jérôme's creations and of AG fragrances as well. Most reviews of the fragrance don't fail to mention that this isn't the scent profile typically associated with the Ariana Grande brand, and mine won't be an exception. It's not the teenage girl Y2K body spray type of perfume. The synthetic/plasticky DNA you might be familiar with from sampling Ari or its flankers is gone, in its place this fragrance has an entry-level niche quality, courtesy of the perfumer who dare I say excels at niche. GIAW replicates the familiar molecule of BR540, Cloud and the like and takes it down a notch to an acceptable level. I had worn BR540 Extrait a few days before I blind bought this one and while Kurkdjian's Extrait was a scrubber because of the iodine smell as well as this very molecule, in Epinette's GIAW it's so smooth and inoffensive that it was love at first sniff, and I'm a very hard to please customer. Not to mention that the lack of any links to a medical intervention played its part, too. The scent itself is without a doubt on the grownup territory, more young adult than adolescent as opposed to previous releases. Personally, I've always loved the happy-go-lucky, carefree & juvenile atmosphere they create, so people calling GIAW mature certainly wasn't swaying me in favor of purchasing it. But it is mature only by comparison: as much as Ariana Grande's early releases succeeded in supplying the demand of a modern bobby soxer, GIAW succeeds in becoming the next step in her fragrance journey. She doesn't listen to pop music as often and might not even know who Ariana Grande is or whose boyfriend the actress-turned-pop diva has got her eye set on now, and her own grownup date has the capacity to appreciate a fragrance that's more than just berry candy, even if she herself is not there yet to want to reach for the classics. No matter, because if she should ever grow out of Ariana Grande into Jean Patou, one day she'll take a sniff of GIAW again and think, "Damn, this was one beautiful fragrance!" Beautiful is putting it lightly, but calling it a masterpiece still feels like an overstatement, so I'll settle on work of art. The pear opening is so deliciously gorgeous and so true to life here that I just want to gulp down the whole 100ml. In all seriousness, it smells exactly the way pear juice tastes; I checked recently. The first actual disappointment with this fragrance is that the intensity of the pear note fades down perhaps quickly. In the crook of the elbow it stays the way it starts the longest, but nonetheless throughout the day you'll still be catching whiffs off yourself that quietly whisper, "yes, this is the yummiest pear a fragrance could offer." When orris root takes the stage, things get interesting. If the wide category of 'powdery' encompasses all things dusty, then the description is pretty accurate. You read it right: d-u-s-t-y, to me at least, and strangely, I like it. Whether you'll like it I have no idea, but the love to like, as well as like to dislike ratios suggest quite a few people do too or don't pick up enough of it not to like it. Although not literally, the strange combination of somewhat dusty orris and juicy fruit is indeed a breath of fresh air - what other fragrance offers exactly this, and what fragrance that offers it actually works? The orris eventually settles into a softer, more cashmeran-like scent, and by the time I'm ready for bed I smell dewy, slightly powdery sweet pear. That's where GIAW's journey ends; it most certainly takes leave in the dead of the night, and by the time you wake up it's long gone, since, well, it's not a powerhouse. But need it be? I'm of the opinion that it does not, because the way things stand it has the qualities of a bedtime companion; cozy day, pity party or pillow talk situation. I've always found Ariana Grande perfumes acceptable in terms of performance, and I'll state it clearly that this is the worst performing one for me so far, but I can't really be mad. If it works it works. My two cents regarding the name - look, I'm not a fan of either, I mean, I bet answering what you're wearing feels pretty awkward. But think of it as merely a marketing strategy: the brand uses the names of her most popular songs to appeal to the audience that likes them by creating a connection between the song and the perfume. If you could wear your favorite song - ah, maybe *you* wouldn't, however - it's a tempting offer to the target audience.

Holy bananas this is some good juice. After letting this become a slight obsession- ahem, hobby- I know well enough than to be suckered in by top notes. But you know that rare moment, where the stars align and you feel like you'll never again experience greater joy than in this current moment? Yeah... Man, I wish I was kidding but the sales assistant was probably ready to call the cops on my crazy ass. This is so, so, so - and, I cannot stress this enough - SO good. If I'd had the money to spare this would've been a very rare on-the-spot purchase. Alas, I must wait a month to be reunited with my beloved... [Edit: I own it now, and it's become my "I'm having decision paralysis so let me just go to my default easy pick" perfume.] Anyway, I need to shut up and get to point. GIAW is a gorgeous fizzy violet/iris, rounded out perfectly by the pear and rose. Imagine eating a perfectly ripe pear on a summer's day; delicious, but also juicy and thirst-quenching. The rose helps amplify that watery vibe, and there's also an undercurrent of dry musky sweetness thanks to the orris root for some depth. It almost makes my tongue tingle smelling it, like I'm sipping a cup of McDonalds Sprite. I think it's easy to look at the scent pyramid and write it off as something generic, but I find it so interesting how they've captured so many types of sweetness into one perfume, without any of it clashing or crucially, becoming overbearing. Quite the opposite -- it all comes together to create a beautiful symphony! Sweetness from the pear, a dry, almost earthy sweetness from the orris root and woods, a creamy sweetness from the vanilla and musk mallow, and finally a delicate almost sheer floral sweetness thanks to the rose. I once described a different perfume as smelling like "parma violets ground into the dry earth by your leather boot" and minus the leather accord, this is pretty much the same thing, just with the aforementioned aquatic nuances. This isn't the longest lasting scent in the world (gone by the 6hr mark) but I'm totally okay with that, it's a 10/10 scent. Silage is an entirely different beast, though; I made the rookie error of assuming celebrity brand = weaksauce and used either 3 or 4 sprays whilst testing. Oops. Note to self but also the whole world: this is definitely a "one to the wrist and one to the neck" kind of fragrance.

Sweet sparkly pear grounded in a vanillic base with a quirky savory twist. Another Ariana Grande perfume that is, like most of her line, bringing a surprising element to the mix while still being intriguing and fun. I’m starting to think I might explore this whole range. They really have personality. I’ve been getting to know this perfume over the last few months, and my impression of it has changed quite a bit since my nose has become familiar with the pathway of first opening to dry down. I suspect this perfume has something in the base that mimics sage, mate, or some other savory spice because it’s definitely in there, I can’t unsmell it now! I see that a few reviewers have picked up on that. The fruity juicy pear and airy vanilla/iris is so pretty, and can float in the air around you. I don’t have a problem smelling this on myself, and it stays strong for hours. Good longevity, like 5-6 hours on me. What I really like about this is that there are layers to it. My nose picks up on that, and it feels much more mature (not just teenager) than some people are giving it credit for! That base of something more grounded and almost savory is what saves this perfume for me and takes it out of teen fleeting fruity mall body spray and puts it into a more sophisticated category, at least for me! Still really modern and uplifting. I think this range has really talented perfumers creating them!

Okay....so, I've been waiting to write this review. I have gotten older and I'm not a snob towards celebrity fragrances anymore. Now, with that being said I Absolutely Love This Fragrance ❤️. It's sweet but not to sweet. I think the sandlewood calms down the sweetness and turns this into a beauty. This vibes harmoniously with my body chemistry, but I should have known that it would. Most things with orris in it always blends well with my body chemistry. I don't smell any rose in this, which is alright with me. The first spray is like cotton candy but there is something that makes it a little more grown up. It's very uplifting and light. Every time I wear this someone asks me what I'm wearing. Now everyone in the office has bought it 🙄. That's a story for another day, let's just say they don't know how to be original. If you want to try this then I say do like I did and start with the body mist. It's $10 at Walmart and it smells just like the perfume. I also have the body oil that I layer with the perfume. This one is my absolute favorite, then Cloud, then Moonlight and then Thank You Next 2.0.

I got compliments from strangers with this one and that never happens to me. (I'm not going to blame my fragrances on that, but my personality/RBF lol) GIAW smells like a fruity shampoo to me. Specifically reminds me of Shea moisture Manuka honey line if anyone is familiar with that. I personally love shampoo-ey fragrances so it works with me. It smells natural if that makes sense. There's a sharpness most likely from the pear that makes it realistic in a way. The lavender juice is perfect for the Fragrance too honestly. It gives off that kind of aura. When I wear this I feel pretty and clean. I feel effortless and put together. It's an easy reach for running errands and I actually find this perfume lasting the longest on my skin out of all her fragrances despite the reviews. Edit: I forgot to mention this was my wedding day perfume so I have good memories tied to it. I found it very romantic and perfect for the occasion too 💜

I've tested this twice now in Ulta, and it's basically identical to Radiant Nectar by Clean and Sweet by Ellis Brookyln--a sweet, soft, marshmallow-y pear with a skin musk. I own both Radiant Nectar and Sweet and wear them frequently. I love the fragrance itself, but God Is A Woman is pretty weak, stays close to the skin, and doesn't last more than a couple hours--and that was with doing 4-5 sprays on my arm. If you like the actual scent of this, just buy Radiant Nectar from Clean. Same fragrance, similar price point, but much better longevity. And if you already own Radiant Nectar or Ellis Brookyln Sweet, you do not need this. I ADORE Cloud, R.E.M. and Thank U, Next so I was excited to get to the store and test this, but once I did, I realized I already have 2 perfumes that smell just like it already. So, it'll be a pass for me!

this truly is heavenly. this smells like these granulated teas you got as a child, but instead of being apple or lemon it is a granulated pear tea. its kinda sweet and straight forward. I am a big fan of pear in perfumes so I appreciate it. the stuff like the roses and sandalwood I cannot detect individually. now, this perfume isn't the strongest, in fact the projection and silage and what not isn't the strongest, it's a more intimate experience. The bottle is to die for, the shade of purple is really pleasant and the white “holder" reminds me of brutalist architecture. Without the holder the bottle has the size of a flask almost, easy to take with you. I would recommend this if you want a sweet fruity perfume that isn't a red fruit. I think this would be lovely all year around actually. a simple but gorgeous perfume.

I bought this the day it launched, 2-3 years ago. I still have about half my bottle, and its already *starting* to turn a little bit. Its still usable and smells nice, just a little different. I need to hurry up and use up my bottle. I think it might have something to do with the lack of preservatives and only using natural (no synthetic) matierials that is making it turn faster than other half used bottles in my collection. Also, yes it is a light scent smell-wise, but this lasts literally all day on me. I could even still smell it on my skin after I took a whole shower. That really sucks for y'all who cant smell it on yourself that long. More for me hehe. Edit: @Aromanticist compared this to Eilish 1 !!??? Are you crazy, this smells NOTHING like Eilish 1

I was so disappointed with Ariana Grande God Is a Woman. It’s actually the only perfume I’ve ever loved enough to buy a backup of, and I have about 100 perfumes! But after about 1.5 years, my bottle has started to smell kind of expired and gross, which I can’t believe because it was decently priced ($25 for 1.7 oz at DD's discounts lol) and one of my top favorites. I’m now wondering if I should open my backup bottle and just use it quickly, but it feels sad because the scent reminds me of a carefree, nostalgic time in my life. I’ve found that EOS Pink Champagne and Bath & Body Works Emerald Mist smell like a dupe, beautiful scents but they’re not the same as the perfume itself. Does anyone have suggestions for perfumes with a similar juicy pear vibe?

the fruity opening is absolutely delicious and super addictive. i just can’t stop smelling it! the rose doesn’t give that rosewater vibe like in thank u next. it’s beautifully blended with the other notes and feels so smooth. it’s not everyone’s favorite, but no one’s ever said it smells bad either. i just wish the projection and longevity were stronger. that’s really the only thing that i don't like about it. meyveli açılışına bayılıyorum o kadar güzel kokuyor ki sürekli koklayasım geliyor. orta notadaki gül thank u next’teki gibi gül suyu gibi hissettirmiyor. diğer notalarla çok iyi karışmış. herkes benim sevdiğim kadar sevmiyor ama beğenmeyen de olmadı. sadece yayılımı ve kalıcılığı çok düşük malesef.

i’ve only ever smelt testers of this and they were years ago, but i remember it being so sweet and fruity, especially the pear, which is amazing i’ve never really smelt a pear perfume, i can’t comment on the longevity but it’s in my wish list for sure!! edit: i got this for my birthday back in october and since then i reach for it after showers to smell fresh and now during the hot weather as its not a heavy fragrance, the pear note is so gorgeous and unique. not usually a fan of musky perfumes but this is amazing, will repurchase forever. longevity could be better but i’m not surprised it isn’t the longest cause the perfume is only light. one of - if not the best ariana perfumes

My favorite perfume! From the first spray, the fragrance is linear. The scent reminds me of sweet pear candy. Ambrette, vanilla, and orris root create a beautiful soft cloud around me. It feels magical and ethereal. GIAW is a summer perfume. In warm/hot weather, notes blend really smoothly leaving a nice rounded scent. In colder months perfume is too light and fresh, and you kind of start to smell rose and sandalwood, but very faintly. I still like to apply it at home, it's a very delicate perfume and the sillage is not very strong, so it's perfect because most perfumes give me a headache. Feels more intimate. I find it unique and so lovely. Very happy with this perfume! 10/10 ♥

I have a confession to make... I've been a little addicted to this perfume. I can't stop reaching for her. This little purple number is honestly such a pick me up at the moment. It's my favourite easy reacher and I am just enamoured completely by the bright, fizzy pear opening. It's sexy, girly and energetic. This settles into a musky dry-down with vanilla and a touch of light florals. This is just such a feminine, easy to wear scent that has garnered me a few compliments to boot! I just wish it lasted longer and projected a little more. Also the bottle looks a little.... cheap. Sorry, Ariana! I do really enjoy God Is A Woman and would absolutely re-purchase.

GIAW is a blend of many scents, especially those composed by Jérôme Epinette himself, that came before it. I immediately detected a smoky black tea profile that has been present in many of JE's works, some of which are released in high-end niche brands. I happen to love this tea accord, so GIAW was an instant buy for me when I sniffed it in the store. The most prominent note is the pear. The fruitiness is not overpowering but gives the right amount of sweetness to pair with the tea accord. It feels like drinking a bubble tea. The dry down is rather surprising. There is that 540's signature burnt sugar note tenaciously clinging to the skin.

I bought a sample of this perfume and i can say it’s one of her best. It’s open with a juicy pear, but unfortunately that pear disappears so fast in seconds. I wish that pear will stick more. After this remains a burnt sugar but in a good way and something else i cant describe it. It’s not so weak how people say. I have it on my skin for about 3 h and it’s still there, and i only spray a tiny bit. About sillage i dont know yet because i didnt go outside to see how is acting in hot weather. Im gonna buy a full bottle because its amazing and cheap price.

This scent is so delicious and juicy. It's like you're biting into the most sweet and juicy pear. Yummy. Very youthful. It has a hint of musk but very slight and it's just amazing. This fragrance says "I'm ready for a fun day in the sun!" The longevity is not good at all on skin, it's almost like a body spray to be honest. However it lasts WAY longer on clothes. I actually sprayed it on my clothes and people could still smell it a few hours later. I also sprayed it on my pillow one night and i could smell a hint of it the next morning.

My favorite Ariana Grande scent. I'm not super good at describing smells, so I'll defer you to the notes listed, but overall it's a lovely fruity and floral scent. It's not as 'vibrant' compared to other fruity and floral scents and, in my opinion, that's what makes it such a good scent year-round. Its sillage is not as intense as other Ari scents like Cloud and is a bit more suitable for everyday wear. I wish it had better longevity but, because it's more understated, you can just spray more on whenever you want a refresh.

I love it. To me I smell the pear and also “grape sour patch kids” (grape is not a listed note), with a soft floral in the base. Very much the same DNA Ariana Grande REM and Mod Vanilla. One spray is all you need. Too much and I could see it causing a headache for me as it’s one of the most beast-mode fragrances in my collection. I’m surprised to see people voting for spring and summer. I’m using it in winter and wondered if it would be to cloying in the heat. But I’m excited to try it when summer cones back :)

I love this - one of my ultimate comfort scents. It's cheap and I like to apply before bed. It layers so well with lots of my perfumes. It lasts ~6 hours. I mostly get canned syrupy pear from this but it pairs so well with anything more spicy, vanilla, or floral. I love it with By the Fireplace. The bottle is really ugly but luckily you can remove the sleeve and then it is a nice plain glass bottle which I love. I'm surprised people think of this as a summer scent. I wear it in all seasons except summer.

I love this perfume it’s a very nice fresh sweet pear and vanilla fragrance super nice for spring and summer but the negative thing is the longevity is super bad it lasts like maybe 2 hours on my clothes and skin. It is not so expensive so I guess you could just spray it throughout the day but I wouldn’t buy a full size because the performance is not good. I think basically all the Ariana fragrances are like this unfortunately which is sad because I think they smell super nice

I really loved this at first. Then would layer it or spray like crazy so i could have longevity and projection. Then i got more into skin scents. My bottle is 70% gone and i love it again. I do like the combo with dossier daisy dupe as well as bsb desert flower because it gives me Mojave ghost vibes. This is my easy reach for work or the gym. To me it’s clean floral. I have gotten a compliment with the desert flower oil and bbw lovely dreamer mist layered with this edp.

Move over Cloud, Glossier You, Juliette, not a perfume... this has been slept on; even by me. Had it for over a year in the closet and nearly passed on it. I’ve been putting it on after my nightly shower and holy sh*t this is stunning and lasts all night. Clean, but not like downy; it’s more... and indescribable! I would pay so much more ... and have for so much less. This is just such a musk/your skin but better with more projection and lasts for days!

I feel like this perfume could be the love of my life. The pear opening is straight gorgeous, fresh and sparkling, everything I ever wanted in a perfume. The drydown however...idk, it smells almost plastic-y and then it totally disappears. Idk if it has any sillage or lasts, word for a year and no one ever aknowledged it. I bought another bottle despise this, because this pear note will haunt me for the rest of my life.

This is such an underrated scent I wish more people spoke about this and hyped it up!! It honestly smells like a $350 fragrance to me. It smells like a juicy pear with undertones of vanilla and musk. When I tell you the smell lasts all day I’m not lying. This is definitely a unique perfume and not like anything ari has released before.

i am not a floral person, but i love this fragrance! it really has a PERFECT blend of fruity and floral. i find that this fragrance lasts more on me than what most people say. i love the fresh pear vibe with a hint of rose and woody musk. this one is one of my favorites from AG! simple, fresh, and very enjoyable (:

Personally, it is my first Ariana’s perfume that I used up. I would say it’s my favorite, very sweet, but still a clean scent, perfect for everyday wear. It is impossible to overuse it is comfortable to wear around people that aren’t into perfumes. I love it, it’s girlie, universal, sweet scent. Pure perfection

Juicy pear, super sweet, musky and fresh. Similar to radiant Nectar but radiant Nectar has an earthy note. Nearly identical to bath and body works emerald Mist. Very crowd pleasing scent, I did get some compliments! You have to spray quite a bit, longevity is just OK, par for the course for fruity perfumes.

Call me crazy, but I really love this. I’m a fan of pear fragrances to start. There is something unusual here that can lean toward the smell of pencil shavings but i don’t mind that and find it nostalgic. Add a pear fragrance oil to really bring out the pear, and this is heavenly to me.

the grande fragrances usually smell like normie musk or pickle juice, idk what grace of divine will brought this gem into fruition. either way, a fave for years upon years. pear love journey started here and i've been chasing the top note rush (gone too soon, rip) ever since.

This one gives me a feeling of walking into the alchemist’s lab. Like Mr Jekyll and Hyde, something weird and captivating about this smell. Makes me wanna stand and smell one more time. I would never tell these ingredients can make that smell. My boyfriend likes it the most.

I'm obsessed with this. I really disliked Cloud. I don't like sweet gourmand, lactonic smells at all. This one has a touch of sweetness but is mostly fruit and fun. For reference, my favorite perfumes are Glossier You, Phlur Missing Person, Juliette has a Gun NAP and Pear!

I find this to be a perfect scent. It’s so light and wearable and the notes are so well balanced and play so well together. I don’t care so much about projection or lasting power, as long as the fragrance notes creates a lovely symphony, and this is it for me.

This is delicious, sparkly, and fresh. I enjoy it so much. The pear is so bright and beautiful. The rose and sandalwood are not very strong, which I personally LOVE. I never thought I would like this so much; it is very feminine and energetic. Love this!

This fragrance exudes a clean and fresh 'girl next door' vibe with its soapy, pear-infused scent. It's a safe choice for a blind buy and won't overpower those around you. It's a perfect everyday scent that you can wear to work or the gym.

The first time i smelled this, i knew i had to have it. It has a unique, fresh, mysterious smell. Although, if you use it too much it smells a bit like burnt sugar...The perfume reminds of good memories, summer days and easier times.

initially you do mainly smell pear, but it smells nice. it suits my skin chemistry so it dries & settles nicely. i was complimented when i wore this out last time. it can be overpowering if you go crazy with spraying it though.

My favorite Ariana perfume, and quite different from her other ones in my opinion! The pear note is so delicious. Pear lovers only tbh!! Dries down to a lovely warm musk. I really don't get any rose from this.

I think it’s a really nice perfume. It smells really familiar not to a perfume but something else. I can’t think of it but it’s really nice. Again my only complaint is the bottle. So annoying.

My oldest son got me this for Mother’s Day and I’m love it!!! On me this is giving me gourmand creme Brulée vibes but with Pear! It’s just smells so delicious and yummy I love it!!!

God is a Woman is my favorite summertime fragrance. It layers so nicely with eos Pink Champagne body lotion. This is the fragrance that sparked my interest in the hobby.

I LOVE THIS PERFUME. ITS A FRESH SWEET PEAR SLIGHT SANDALWOOD. ON ME IT LASTS LONG. BUT I DO OVERSPRAY. I GET SO MANY COMPLIMENTS. I HATE THE NAME.

Ive had my bottle since its came out and its gone funky. Like stale almost. I have perfumes way older than this that still smell great.
