Tropical

Was worried this would be a fruity floral as I’m not into fruity tropical scents unless it’s like a VIW scent where it’s lime and coconut. After my disappointment with Sydney Rock Pool, in which I was hoping would be very beachy but came off as smelling like a men’s cologne, my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised to find this one smell so much better and overall more unique and interesting than other tropical scents out there. It is fruity, but not in that generic brand name middle of the road department frags sold. It opens up with a tropical fruit (passionfruit/nectarine vibes, not too sweet), but is met with florals, that seem to over take the fruits. Viewing the notes after trying it, I see why I don’t find it as offensive as other florals that leaned fruity, and too generic like. Projection was decent and longevity was about 5 hours. I think if I was a bit more generous with spraying it has potential to be a bit stronger in both parts, but I was especially pleased with how it changed after two hours in, any fruitiness was lost and moved to a pure floral scent with what smelled like hibiscus and light freesia notes. By the end it turn into a skin scent, but I could still smell the subtle floral scent. It’s chilly where I’m at and won’t get warmer till March, but I could see myself wearing this year round, as the florals really shine in this (at least on my skin). If you like unique tropical scents that aren’t overpowering, and aren’t overpowered by sweet fruit, def give this one a try.

This is a very floral take on tropical, versus sweet. Frangipani is rare and delightful, with jasmine and champaca..mmm. I detest overly fruity perfume and this is not that. First, very nice performance. You may not smell it but others can, as was evident with all the compliments I was getting all day long! Even hours later.. Tropical flowers with the amber and that touch of mahogany keeps this scent from being cloying. No fruit salad here! The only thing with frangipani is that some might be overwhelmed by it. It's an intense flower. The drydown becomes warm and sunlit, like walking through a Costa Rican surfing enclave, dressed in bright, colorful beach clothes, big straw sunhat & a pair of Wayfarers...laid back, hot tan skin, surrounded by flowers and happy people. This perfume is a smile, a welcome, happiness in a bottle. I need this in my life. Perfect for summer dreaming.🏝️

First let me say I’m a huge fan of Arquiste fragrances! I have a few and they have alway been a favorite for years now! I ordered a small decant of this because before I shell out the coin, I want to make sure. So at first spray I was like “no, no” oh well I felt relieved I didn’t go with fb. Then after sitting on my couch, I got this gorgeous scent waifing up from my arm! Very unusual woody sweet, not your average tropical but a bit more realistic! Not suntan lotion what’s so ever. More frangipani plus woody, on my skin no fruit at all Most Arquiste fragrances last quite a long time on me, this does also. I get how the reviews below say it’s too sweet but honestly I’m not finding that at all. Arquiste is a house that I find creates some of the best fragrances that aren’t like the masses. My suggestion if you want something different

I usually hate tropical fruity fragrances. They almost always smell artificial to me. My favorite tropical floral is Jean Patou Sira des Indes. But Tropical could be a second to it. This is delicious. At first I was thinking get me an umbrella for this drink but the florals come in, the plumeria champaca, guava blossom and turn this perfume into the most delightful tropical fruity floral that is so naturalistic that even though we got a foot of snow outside right now smelling this makes me believe I'm in the tropics. Possibly Fiji. Extremely fun and flirty. A darling beachy perfume. Fun in the sun. It would be the perfect perfume to take on holiday or a cruise.

Wow, a realistic guava scent at the start of the perfume, mixed with other tropical accords that I can't identify. After 15 minutes, the perfume evolves into a completely floral perfume. This is the moment I prefer to avoid, perhaps because of the frangipani, but after that comes to light a delicious scent like a shampoo based on tropical notes, and of course, the guava. Good duration and a decent sillage. I'm going to buy this fragrance for my wife, no doubt.

I think some reviews are inaccurate. This is a beautiful grown-up tropical fragrance. A warm fruity floral with creamy vanilla and enveloping amber. It takes you on a journey of guava..then rich florals..and finally that guava reappears with the vanilla/amber/woods. i really like this because its a sexy bougie tropical perfume with amazing performance.

I really enjoyed this, it opens up very sweet and guava forward but then becomes much more subtle and woody with a slight cola-ish undertone that makes me think of myrrh. The wood base is deep and almost dark in nice contrast to the fruit florals. In the end it smells like champaca incense and vanilla.

I blind bought this immediately upon release and I am definitely NOT disappointed. This might be my new favorite from this house. It's bright, fruity, and juicy. Well balanced with the florals. Bottle is top notch as well. Beautiful fragrance. It will be my summer go-to for sure.

Tropical opens with a big blast of guava, which I found delightful. On top, as per the notes list, I'm only getting ginger as support in the background, and I'm not getting any lime at all. One commenter notes that this fades to a straight up floral, but my impression is that even though the guava settles down, the composition stays fruity, and the fruit and the floral support each other. In the dry down I am getting a sugar/brown sugar note. This could be vanilla but it's not aggressively "vanilla-y", and I'm reading it more as a light caramel. I find it interesting that the notes mention guava blossom. Guava blossoms don't have a scent, but they are edible and have a sweet, marshmallow-like taste. So perhaps the combination of vanilla and this note is where the caramel impression is coming from. The sweetness is not overpowering such that this becomes a gourmand, which is good (for me) because I'm not a gourmand person. It seems in support of the whole. As far as the florals go, champaca is dominant. There are a number of Asian magnolia trees in my neighborhood, so I'm picking up on it strongly. It's not pure champaca, but my nose has not been exposed enough to plumeria to know what it is. For me, this is more of an education issue than anything else. Ripe jasmine is there but doesn't dominate. I love that we've got white flowers here, yet the impression is not overwhelming or headache inducing. I have trouble with massive indolic white flower scents and this manages a great balance. I'm really enjoying this one. It lends a buoyancy to my day - something we all need sometimes. (Maybe more than sometimes lately). I know people would generally think of something like this as a summer fragrance, but I think it would be a wonderful mid-winter fragrance. Who doesn't need a little pick me up in the dead of winter? The memory of warmth, a light humidity, and a light, caressing breeze gently rustling the sleeves of the loose gauze shirt you wear to guard you against the sun. You walk along a path in sandals, lush trees studded with flowers rising up on both sides of you, guava vines twirling up trunks, and an occasional fallen fruit on the ground.

Picked this up as part of a discovery set. I misplaced my sample for a week and was really bummed because I kept thinking of it and wanted to try it again. Found it this morning! I'm a huge fan of tropical fragrances and have a fair number of them. But I don't have one that smells like this! Its a lovely greenish, guava scent. I don't think its overly sweet at all. I also don't think it smells like shampoo (but I sure haven't smelled all shampoos). It's quite cold here so I'm probably not giving it a fair test. I wil definitely break it out in the spring to test again because I could see getting a decant or travel size of this fragrance. It's worth sampling if you like fruity, tropical fragrances.

Arquiste Tropical has managed to be the rule breaker for the genre. Usually tropical themes go towards juvenile or vacation themes here it's pulled off quite the feat by going towards elegance. A well judged accord of guava combined with white and yellow florals on a vanilla base. Thematically this has taken a very popular genre like De Marly's Safand or YSL's Atlas Garden and pulled the ole switcheroo deftly switching the fruits and florals but within the same structure and on a similar base. Creative and well executed alas this will probably never make it into my collection it's a little too subtle and femme leaning for my personal preference.

This is very fruity and sweet with a dash of floral musk that reminds me of a Tocca perfume like Collette. It’s not cloying; it’s kind of refreshing. I need this to be much heavier to justify its exorbitant price. It t goes on lightly, does not project, and seems to fade in intensity quickly, but it does stick around for 6+ hours. I think the guava note is gorgeous. It’s just the right amount of sour. The tropical drink analogies are accurate but the jasmine and champaca help keep it from smelling like a spilled cocktail. This is something I would gladly wear on a warm day or night out.

I really love this sent, it is very tropical as the name describes. The one thing I haven't seen mentioned, although this could just be the way it works with my skin chemistry, is that it dries down to almost smelling like baby powder. I don't mind this at all though as you still get the guava note above it.

All guava to me, second by frangipani. I don't love it but I do like it. Could work perfectly as a luxury/upscale "tropical" scented shampoo. Not sure where anyone is getting Colette from in the reminds me of section, either my nose is extremely broken or 4 other people's noses are lol.

This is so heady. True to its name, this is a deep, VERY floral, tropical accord. It turns animalic on my skin so not safe for blind buys. It has a very nostalgic perfume DNA (very big and hypnotic, very 80's). A like, not love.

smells very tropical (as described lol) but its verrryyyyy sweet almost like a margarita you'd get at an all inclusive resort. If you want to smell like a sweet fruity drink by the beach this is for you!

This is a beautiful newcomer where the tropical floral take over the initial opening fruity accords and I do not think it is animalic — at all! Not a bit. It has a bit of a vintage touch, but not so much to make it strong or even headache inducing. It is a quite original fusion. I have never smelled anything like it. It’s not linear as it starts fruity with a juicy sweet guava and then it turns into something more adult and it stays definitely in the tropical lane all throughout its evolution. The sillage is quite prominent in the beginning, but it becomes more like a second skin scent after a few hours, which I believe it is good for that type of tropical floral fragrance. If it was stronger, it would be unbearable in my opinion. Beautifully made. This is not simple and it truly smells like a niche forward perfume. Not aimed for beginners. Bravissimo! 5/5 🌟

I’m not really blown away by any aspect of this perfume, but it’s still likeable. I feel like I’ve smelled it a million times tbh

This is a just a tropical shampoo scent. Something we've all smelled before. I think if you want to smell like you've just washed your hair and it's still wet, you'd probably like this.

Way way way too sweet guava juice. It smells like when you try a tropical fruit drink and it is way too sweet so you mix in water to dilute the sweetness. I could never wear this. The frangipani and jasmine sambac are nice. They start to come through beautifully in the mid. I like the mid a lot more than the opening and the dry down. I wish the ginger and lime were dialed up, and the fruit sweetness was dialed down. I don't get much if any vanilla or amber. Maybe if a thicker, creamier vanilla/amber was there to provide some heft, the overly sweet, liquid guava juice smell would be more palatable, interesting and complex. I am a guy and I enjoy a lot of unisex and feminine leaning fragrances, but this leans very feminine to me. And not elegant, classy, soft, lovely, or beautiful feminine. More like cloying feminine ... I hope my wife doesn't get this because it would annoy me rather than attract me. This was headache-inducing for me. I wanted to like this but I just don't. 3/10

Tropical flowers and fruit. Good for spring. Tart guava and almost powdery jasmine. It's a bit too heavy on the floral end of things for me, though. I wish it was juicier and more fresh. I don't get the ginger or lime on my skin, sadly. That kick would have made it more modern and less stuffy. The florals are a bit too much for me. Something in this burns my nose towards the end of every sniff. Not sure what it is.

It was impossible for me to dissect this scent. I didn’t look at the notes until an hour in, and all I could figure is that a sweet note was present....and a healthy dose of fruity floral. I was surprised to read that guava is in the mix because I love the smell of it. Needless to say this was a pass for me.

Whew! This is not it. The opening is lovely but the dry down...straight horse manure.

A very “perfumey” tropical fragrance, less juicy...more floral. The jasmine and woody notes really come through, more so than I had expected. I don’t get a whole lot of guava. The more I smell, the less tropical it gets. Which is sad.

I get zero guava or fruitiness, this is just a basic floral fragrance. Major letdown.

Opening is the most fruity it gets, a very bright and tart guava with pear, green apple, passionfruit, lime -- greenish, almost astringent tropical fruits, with a lot of the fruit skin. I also get a lot of white and yellow floral, mostly jasmine, which got stronger over time while the fruit receded into the background. After about 12 hours the green fruit starts mingling with vanilla bean and amber which creates a very pleasant floral forward, fruity vanilla. Traversing a curated garden of budding white and pink and yellow tropical flowers, not yet with the headiness of full bloom, surrounded by baskets overflowing with guava and lime. Balanced well with base notes of amber and vanilla.

What a beautiful guava and jasmine bomb on the opening. There's something like amaretto in here, but only barely. The guava is so sweet and seductive. Wow. There's enough woody base notes to hold down this level of sweetness, and it is very sweet. The amber Arquiste uses is such a rich a deep full bodied amber and you see it in Flor Y Canto as well. Yes this is sweet, but it's got a lot of heft. Despite the notes, this is not a candy body spray, but a rich deep resinous guava jasmine. As it dries down it gets warmer and more ambery. 9/10

She’s a guava forward jasmine sex bomb. It’s sweet and shampooey. I think people are disliking the guava in this bc it does have a fruity stink if you’re looking for it. I think this is an example where they made the fragrance 1% overripe to make it more appealing overall. Like bitterness of coffee in a latte or vodka in a cosmo. I love it. It stinks just right 9/10

reminds me of my grandma getting ready in the morning, this is pretty much exactly what her bathroom always smells like. i can smell her bar soap, her juicy floral perfume she’s had from the 90s, her hairspray, etc etc. i have a feeling i'm gonna be sniffing this one a lot when i miss her :)

This is an absolutely not for me. Dead bodies and horse dung. I understand it's supposed to smell like jasmine flowers and sweet fruity breezes.. but I can't do it.

This smells just like gold juice by borntostandout, but more floral and with a signature guava stank. I love it. I would get more if I could afford it

This is so good in the opening. Fruity without being juvenile or sweet. But then, to my nose, after a couple hours I get a gasoline note???

Let down its just a guava bomb. I like guava but its all I get and it's so boring and one dimension. Such a disappointment
