English Lavender

My favorite fragrance is Heritage (Guerlain), it is also the first I bought many many years ago when it came in the older bottles. I love lavender. I have tried lavender essential oils, but they are harsh and do not last. I wear Heritage for myself, and for several decades now, it is the only fragrance that I still love to wear everyday have not found irritating as I have with some of the more modern woman or men fragrances. I wanted to find another lavender and decided to try Atkinsons EDT. It is sold at Amazon in Italy very reasonably priced, for 320 ml it is 30 euros. So I expected the fragrance to be weak and maybe cheap smelling. I was totally wrong, this is long lasting, one drop (it does not come with a spray) and lasted until the next day, still smelling of lavender. It is a lavender that is not mixed with sugary molecules, straight up lavender. I think there is white musk (which I don't to like) but if present, it does not interfere. I can only highly recommend this if you like lavender (that is not harsh or sugary) or like me like to layer this with other woody fragrances. At first spay maybe it is a little alcoholy, but that disappears in a few minutes. Although it is a personal scent bubble (not powerful sillage), it lasts and lasts, smelling of true lavender to the end. I also use it for bedding when I have guests.

Atkinsons English Lavender embodies the spirit of pure lavender. While of course there is a fair amount of genuine lavender oil, no doubt, we know that even the absolute of lavender has its limitations on longevity, just reaching into the heart of fragrance, so there is support here, by way of clove, clary sage, some rosemary and geranium, rosewood, Evernyl, and musk. Yet these props in no way detract from the sensation of unadulterated lavender. The only sweetness here is the subtle coumarin that is naturally present in lavender oil. Here, it is the herbaceous nature of lavender that is given full attention, never veering toward an excessively powdery detour. At one point in its development, it reminds me exactly of inhaling a bundle of freshly dried lavender. There is a surprising heartiness to EL that sets it apart from other classic lavender toilet waters. Traces linger for hours on my own skin but as always, YMMV.

A gorgeous natural lavender. Longevity and silage are not bad either. Lavender is one of my most favorite notes and this Atkinsons does it well.

ENGLISH LAVENDER, 1837 AND 1910 atkinsons1799.london Sometimes it is hard to know the launch date of a perfume. That is the case for the very vintag.ish English Lavender which may very well be produced, accordying to some records, at the end of the XVIII century. We will never know, but what we know is how nostalgically emotional this scent makes me feel. This is not a cologne, nor is it a fougere, as the notes go toward a chypre structure. Upon spraying, you are welcoming by lavender and lavender and lavender of the hrbaceous and slightly medicinal variety. This is accompanied by the classical bergamot and an invigorating note of rosemary; it is as aromatic as it sounds. The feeling of lavender is then prolonged by clary sage with noticable fresh and leathery undertones. This is accompanied by geranium and a good rendition of palissander wood. I detect also a sublte use of cloves. The virile base is made of oakmoss, tonka bean, and some musk. Do you know it? Have you smelled it? it's a very nice chypre lavender fragrance, which is rare because usually lavender is in a base of fougere scents because of it's sharpens. It's not so here. It was launched in 1799 not in 1837, this way miss Jane Austen COULD use it in here time, I'd like to think about that when I'm wearing it (don't ask). Classical old school cologne, reseting, fresh and toiletry. Lovely piece. Not all notes are listed here though. "Olfactory pyramid starts with a fabulous blow of freshness, with lavender, Rosemary and and bergamot, which open the way to a heart of clary sage. Finally, it brings virility and intensity with oakmoss, musk and Tonka bean." A quote from manufacturers sounds more accurate. Nobody mentioned the clove (maybe even clove oil) though but it's definitely there really distinctive all the time but not overwhelmingly so.

No review for this old glory?? So strange! I have a full bottle of this and I often wear it when I'm at home in the same way I would use 4711 Kolnish Wasser. I really like it! I know it's meant for men, but on my skin I just smell lavender that is very soothing and the rest of composition is slightly powdery and sweet. Lasting power is poor and this is an advantage, because I can wear other heavier feminine perfumes before going out. Most of the listed notes are very soothing and good for nervous system. Well, I don't think that Atkinsons put tons of natural e.o. in a cheap cologne. It may be a very synthetic blend. Nonetheless it works fine for relax, unfussed well-being and feeling of cleanliness without the soapy pungent edge so typical in many modern perfumes.

My grandmother used it, she loved lavender, and this has a bergamot compontent that reminded her, well, of somebody in the past. Nothing granmotherly about this perfume, rather unisex. End slighlty spicy/woody for me, that is rather special for a lavender, might be the clary sage, or the moss, npthing ot the "bottom of the laundry cupboard" smell of old lavender. Refreshing, elegant lavender scent for summer.

Smells like a warm field of sun-dried lavender in the autumn... dry and cozy like jumping into a hay loft , not fresh like a typical lavender air freshener. Decent strength and longevity, in my opinion unisex. Fades in around 3 hours to a subtle skin scent

Fresh and clean old-style barbershop fragrance. It's nice but longevity and sillage are both very low.

It smells like lavender with lime and all-spice. It's fresh and light. Completely unisex, my wife said if I don't want, she'll wear it. Doesn't last long, more of a classic toilet water kind of thing. Not modern but not dated either. Nothing special. It's not a bad buy because it's cheap.

Never have I washed a fragrance off so fast. The only saving grace in this whole experience is that I could still send it back for a refund, as even the sight of this bottle triggered feelings of PTSD following the violent and overwhelming olfactory assault. I would not recommend a blind buy unless you enjoy the nostalgia of smelling your grandfather's cologne. This would suit more mature people.

I bought a huge 620ml bottle of this. At first its lasting power did short, the fresh lavender smell lingered for a min and faded quickly, then it became fougere like. If anyone remembers the vtg Roger&Gallet fougere cologne in those “diamond-cut” cylinder bottles, then you get the idea. Only Atkinsons lavender is not that sweet, it also got a shy herbal base. I didn't realize its existence until one day I dosed myself with it and when the fougere stage ended I forgot it totally. Later got fever suddenly and I didn't have a chance to change the clothes and had to rest in bed for 2 days. During the night, I found myself was surrounded by a herbal smell, mixed with my own sweat. It took me a while to realize that it's Atkinsons lavender. Still, it's a very old school type of thing, you could almost imagine that a middle-aged or even senior man wears this daily since his younger day. It's not a trendy thing, not those stuff from TF, AdP or any inche brand nowadays you could imagine.

The scent of my childhood when the male fragrances' selection was limited to one or two items, outside those 2/3 after shave bottles. In those days, men used to place a couple of drops of this clean beauty on the pocket square of their suit jackets. I still manage to have a bottle of Atkinson's English Lavender always in my stable, that I regularly hunt when I travel to Italy. It reminds me the distinctive elegance of those men in the '60 and '70, wearing light gray grisaille in cool wool during the spring/summer months. The fresh whiff of lavender, bergamot and musk, typical of the summer mornings in the southern of Italy ...

A friends of mine buy this cologne to her friend every christmas. Yes it is an elegant cologne Beacause when ends the brush of natural lavender, start such dried warm grass hay smell, woods, a little cedar, which in some way is not so far from Acqua di Parma, expecially in the drydown, same vintage sophistication. Atkinsons English Lavender is more mediterranean than English this is more warm and solar. Yes reminds me the Puig Lavender but and recalls me Morris by Morris cologne as well. Another nice bargain traditional natural lavender cologne not into this database is Lavanda Coldinava born in 1939, still in production

It’s a really straightforward lavender. Not much else going on, maybe a bit of geranium, tonka, and rosemary on the dry down. But that’s it, it’s a really good, clean, bracing lavender eau de cologne. Better than l’Occitane’s and better than Czech and Speake’s (Oxford & Cambridge). But that’s about it. It’s not special or elevated - if you want that, Tom Ford’s Beau de Jour is the male lavender par excellence. It is as I said really good for what it is, so I have zero regrets getting my hands on a 620 ml bottle for those days I need to douse myself in classically masculine serenity.

This was my father's fragrance - he was a maitre d' at a 4 star French restaurant and wore a tuxedo everyday, along with his Atkinson's English Lavender. He was originally from Tuscany, and I guess Atkinsons colognes were popular in Italy when he was younger (in the 1950's and 60's). It suited him so well, and smelled so light, fresh, clean and elegant. I think of him every time I smell this.

I live in Australia but I have known English Lavander by Atkinson (for men) for many years from South America where they do not make it or sell it any longer. Can you please tell me if I could possibly buy it here in Australia somewhere or could I order it on line and what would be the price. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you. B.P. Araya F.

I have a better blended and softer lavender cologne but this is still ok. I use it for layering to give freshness to sweeter perfumes. The beginning is very realistic lavender oil, and it softens a bit but not too much. Probably will use in the summertime against mosquitos or spray it on curtains etc.

I purchased Atkinson English Lavender in Spain, 30 euro . I use it as a up lift because I just love the smell. Hard to find in CA. Still looking, postage is expensive from Europe.

Very similar to the elusive Agua Lavander - puig... I wear this in Italy around the lakes to keep mosquitoes away. They can’t stand it! It smells heavenly and nostalgic...

This smells very natural and strong. A good choice for people who like clean herbal scents. More masculine than unisex, in my opinion. A nice powdery fragrance for summer.

My father used to wear this. Smelled SO good on him.
