Tempo

Firstly, thank you, thank you for adding this fragrance - I have been waiting so long! Secondly, a caveat, I know that I am not an expert. That being said, I feel compelled to say that the note pyramid given does not reflect this scent. This is a beautiful, retro, chypre that smells way more classic and expensive than it is, IF that is the sort of thing you go in for. It opens with a green, tangy opening - bergamot or neroli-ish. Not a hint of orange blossom, however. I've made sampling orange blossom scents, both soliflores, and as part of compositions a bit of a mission, and this simply . . . isn't. Woods, though, are certainly there - in fact, this perfume is dry as a bone. But it is not without florals. It is powdery and spicy. Maybe hyacinth and/or some orris root or iris? Things that in combination make a perfume seem grand and sophisticated or old and outdated, depending on your perspective. Maybe also some jasmine; maybe also a bit of narcissus. All throughout, powerful and dominant is the oakmoss. The woods are probably mostly vetiver and some sandalwood, but practically no discernible cedar, and not even a hint of patchouli. I have not been wearing it for hours, but, as of yet, I cannot detect any of what people consider to be a generic and offending Avon undertone. For the price, this is an elegant, albeit old-fashioned, woody chypre that really deserved more exposure than it has gotten. A real gem. As an aside, this was what my mother wore when she was worked as an Avon lady when I was about 6 years old. I think most of us on here had mothers or grandmothers or aunts who were Avon ladies! If people agree or disagree with me, or are better at separating out what florals and other notes might make up this composition, I would love to read your take on this. I can't wait to see other reviews.

Wearing for the first time and, given the dearth of reviews, I thought I would post my first impressions: To my nose, tempo is a melange of orange blossom, sappy greens, powdery florals (I get mimosa and orris, along with a bit of green hyacinth and tuberose), buttery sandalwood and earthy vetiver swimming in a thick cloud of oakmoss. I am a lover of 70s chypres, even the more austere variety. Tempo is one of the friendliest chypres of the era that I've tried. There is a glowing warmth that anticipates the rounded, voluptuous compositions of the 80s , while falling right in line with contemporary meadowy florals such as Revlon Jontue. I wonder if this was a revamp of Moonwind -- they smell very similar on the drydown, but here the sharp, vertical greenery of Moonwind has been suffused with an orange glow rather than gleaming white aldehydes. Also, I love the groovy bottle.

I purchased a bottle of Avon Tempo based on the reviews here... up till now I had never smelled this perfume before. WOW! I am in love.,... I am a huge lover of chypres & the more mossy and civet the better! I especially find the '70s formulations devine and unique compared to today's scents in the market. Wearing a '70s chypre will set the wearer apart for sure. Tempo reminds of Halston (classic) which was my first love as far as fragrances go. Earthy,mossy, and well.. sexy in a unique way. LOVE LOVE

I have a vintage bottle that belonged to my mom, so take my review with a grain of salt because it's older than I am. I definitely get the citrus and floral notes, the moss not as much. It's a lovely scent, retro, woody, and still good and interesting after all this time.
