Vent Vert

For the life of me, I had no idea what I was into when I blind buy this. The packaging maybe? I love geometrical shaped bottles. My thought when I smelled this? Hmm it’s very Green.. like walking through the valley of rich, fertile mountains filled with all kinds of herbaceous plants, and the dry down after few hours was nice too. Smooth and slightly powdery.. could be the influence from the musk. So in the end, I decided to just buy it as for me this would be a nice contrasting addition to all my florals and gourmand types of fragrance that I have. Side note, I layer this Vent Vert with Estée Lauder’s Private Collection and the smell came out like a gentle bang. Fresh and yet intense. Refreshing and sophisticated! I’m excited to wear this everyday

Personally... without reference to the past versions (I never smelled them)... this is beautiful. I can’t stop smelling it. It is green, floral, and somewhat sweet —almost giving it a slight gourmand feel. Truly, I adore it. I’ve never had anything like it. And it is undeniably a good smell, wafting in the air with a luxurious aura about it. I appreciate some may judge this against the past. But I am thoroughly happy to assess it anew...and I give it a lot of credit in a sea of fragrances that often don’t impress. This feels special. The brand also sells a sample set of the full collection that can be credited toward a bottle purchase.

The original variations, if you haven’t smelled them—are dry, bitter, mossy, green, and a little citrusy. This, on the other hand, is exactly the opposite —it is a fresh, sweet and light white floral musk - slightly watery with a lot of Jasmine. It is quite nice, but you can’t even tell it’s the same fragrance. I wanted to smell the new vent vert bad, and this got me to buy the sample set, so it is good marketing to call this vent vert; italso opens up to new audience not caring about the old fragrance at all. However, I feel a bit taken and I think this should have been called a new fragrance entirely. This is well done and basic — an easy reach for spring or summer. If you don’t already have a bunch of scents like this like I do, or can afford it anyway, pick it up. It will be worn. But if you’re looking to get another vent vert reformulated, look again! I love the bottle.

A luminous green fragrance that opens with a rush of freshly cut grass and mint leaves, touched by a hint of gentle citrus sweetness. Its watery clarity feels like sunlight glinting through morning dew; bright, transparent, and alive. Clean white florals soften the edges, lending purity and calm to the composition. Still, I think it would have been better without the calypsone; as it is, it leans a touch sweetish and synthetic rather than truly aquatic. Can’t compare to the original, stuff far before my time, a part of me genuinely hates this but also kinda likes it as well. Opens with a harsh overdose of stemone and green notes and even green notes too I hate it so harsh and chemical. Once it reaches its base, a jasmine blooms on a bed of heavy warm musk with an ocean breeze in the background from calypsone its a little old fashioned but uniquely unisex fresh and floral. If the first hour or so wasn’t so unpleasant to me it might’ve been full bottle worthy especially if it had more of a fruity or minty touch but regardless I can tell even without witnessing the vintage bottle that it doesn’t hold a candle.

Starts green, citrousy, slightly grassy, lightly bitter floral, just a bit aquatic. Half an hour later, turns and stays this way, into a familiar sweet scent, more tuberose than jasmin, a bubblegum floral. It keeps some of the freshnes until the end, but only so. On me it lasted for almost eight hours, with moderate projection, could probably last longer and project more, if is heavily sprayed and on clothes. It reminds me of *Iris Tuberose* by Creed. Do try it, you may like it or you may even love it

Good, not great. I feel like it's trying to be too many things at once: green, white floral, powdery, fresh. it compromises too much by casting such a wide net. The smell is somewhat unsatisfying and cloying, I did not enjoy this

I love green fragrances but this does nothing for me. I'm sure it's the calypsone and the spearmint that are bothering me. Aquatic and minty- no thanks. Smells feminine too.

Bitter, grassy, fragrance with a pop of fig leaf

Very interesting, ...and fairly happily so. After my profound disappoint at Balmain's body-snatcher replacement of Ivoire, keeping only the name, I was more than hesitant to examine how the transformed Vent Vert, the only other vintage Balmain scent I'm readily able to compare with its modern descendent. However, in this case, the situation is rather different. This new release at least attempts to stay somewhat true to the late 20th Century version, ...though hardly exactly, of course. Some will say I'm giving a few shared notes (galbanum, basil) far too much credit, ...but in comparison to the wretched horror of the Ivoire trade, I am inspired to be generous with even well-intentioned half-measures such as this. Still, the important differences must at least be discussed. Firstly, the opening of vintage Vent Vert is freshly green herbal and tangily aromatic, thanks to galbanum, basil, and citrus. Yet, floral sweetness is also present from the start. This new fragrance also tries to perform an odd contradiction of green and sweet, but in a very different way.. The green of galbanum (and now black currant) is still uppermost, but it is also directly undercut by a mildly sweet fig accord and a watermelon (Calypsne) note. This contrast, while less seamless than the vintage, is a genuine curiosity in its own right. It's worth experiencing at least once, ....before it fades and jasmine takes over. It is at the transition from top to middle that the two scent profiles resemble each other most closely. The heart of both fragrances is surprisingly floral. Be it many flowers or just one, as the case may be. It is the vintage that is much, more richly polyfloral. Both rose and violet stand out prominently, though spring bulbs and white florals dominate over all. For the much more modernly minimalist Vent Vert, Balmain has chosen to rely mostly on an indolic jasmine for its flower power. ...And it is a pleasantly balanced jasmine, ...though by no means an exceptionally amazing one. ...Its a typical modern jasmine, somewhat stark and self-possessed. Lastly, the vintage Vent Vert possesses that classically limpidly emerald depth, thanks, in part, to real oakmoss. In contrast, the modern base is much more airy and synthetically dry, but its not unpleasant or terrible, for what it is. One could even argue that such airy amberwoods do fit thematically with 'vent'. Yes, overall, I will admit I am serving this modern Vent Vert only slight praise, ...but it really is quite fine for being what it is: a typically modern green jasmine fragrance. No that won't ever equal a gloriously full and highly polyfloral, truly green chypre, ...but I suppose in the 21st Century we must make do.

I was on the hunt for a bitter neroli perfume. All the ones I tested in any boutiques / fragrance house have either a creamy/fruity opening. This doesn't have neroli listed on the notes but the previous versions of it did. Also did a little digging on reddit and the oldies have confirmed that this version doesn't match-up to previous releases. Am I really going to be one of those who will hunt down for a sample of the old composition? I really cba. So, for now, I am enjoying my little sample of this perfume. I am layering it with my neroli body oil from nuxe. Divine for summer. 4 hours longevity, not bad for a freshie. Drydown is a bit more powdery than musky This is a green and bitter perfume that, to me, smells like neroli.

I must be an outlier. I really love this fragrance. It's warm and sophisticated, and the powder notes are gentle, complex and inviting, and they rise to the skin almost immediately. It doesn't smell "green" to me, which I don't mind at all, and it's the kind of scent that gets compliments from anyone you let close enough to catch a whiff of it.

Can I just say, that I'm in the love with the bottle? I would love to try this one though. I never got the chance to try the original Vent Vert, but that one sounds like it would have been right up my alley...a chypre. Would love to smell this new version!! That bottle is giving me malachite vibes. I'm a big fan of that stone...so pretty!!

Palatable, it’s very crushingly bitter green with mint and sweet melon is all I smell. It literally smells like these melon minty throat pastilles I used to have as a kid. It’s nice and sweet.

The bottle is perfection, but since I can buy the real vintage for less money, that's what I'm going to do.

A delightful green splash of fig leaf, basil and mint with a little melon. Reminds me of the 90s.
