Short Review: One of my favorite scents to smell but the performance is pretty weak. It’s a clean, simple, crisp and invigorating scent (a nice grapefruit at the opening but not too sweet). Bright but refined. Good for all occasions. It does not overly project and becomes a skin scent quickly (seems like some bottles perform better than others). It’s non offensive and a compliment getter when people are close. It is good for what I want in a daily frag: to subtly smell clean, fresh and put together without overthinking it. Comes in a big 4.2 oz bottle and is dirt cheap so I can overspray. I do wish it stayed around a little longer. I like this stuff. Detailed Review: I’ve gotten some better performing bottles and some weaker performing bottles. There is an EDP and an EDT (they look similar and I don’t think fragrantica makes a distinction). The EDP liquid is slightly purple. I think the previous EDT liquid was slightly yellow before but the recent EDT bottle I got was purple like the EDP. There are other variations too (ie. Classic aqua, Classic Citrus) that look similar but are different frags altogether and they have different review pages. The Classic EDT and EDP are not projection monsters to say the least. Sometimes it almost disappears right after over spraying. Sometimes it hangs around more subtly close to the skin. Overall it’s a clean, simple, wonderful scent. It does not overly project (even when I overspray). It’s non offensive, smells clean and is a compliment getter when people are close. Citrus and white florals make it crisp and bright but it’s refined. It can be worn as a gym scent, at the office, heading to church or on a date night. It’s capable and at ease in all situations and occasions (mostly in a very subtle way). Some might find it lacks projection (I agree), is too linear, simple or boring. For me, it is good for what I want in a daily fragrance: to subtly smell clean, fresh and put together without overthinking it. The clear glass bottle is simple, attractive and large (4.2 oz. vs. typical 3.4 oz.). The cap is cheap plastic. The cost is cheap. Atomizer is fine. I like this stuff. Smell: 9.5 out of 10 (for its category) Performance: 3 out of 10 Overall: 7out of 10 considering the price.

I'm gonna re-review this. I love the scent. Green citrus floral notes in harmony giving a relaxing, calming, clean scent. To my nose, it reminds me of freshly printed magazines or brochures. This is probably the most inoffensive fragrance I've put my nose on. In fact, I'm so confident it wont offend that I tried spraying this on a carpool a few times and I got no negative reactions. The only problem with this is how diluted it is when you spray it straight off the bottle. Sometimes I don't even know if I'm spraying hand sanitizing alcohol on me or I'm spraying a fragrance. The trick is to decant. I decanted it on a travel-sized bottle and I guess it evaporated a good amount of alcohol because it smells so concentrated and much more long-lasting. Overall, if this lasted an hour or two longer and it didn't have this alcohol problem, I would have had this as my signature scent forever.

A preppy soap fragrance that stays true to its name. Slightly zesty, aromatic citrus rounded by aldehydes, fresh and green like tea served in a spa. A very zen scent that's reminiscent of polo shirts and yachts. Chaste, but overwhelmingly pleasant. Charming and minimalist. EDIT: I got a lot more fruit from this today: melon, underripe starchy green banana, and kiwi. The top notes are still lemony fresh, but the heart is sweeter and a touch creamy. EDIT EDIT: This has become my favorite after shower fragrance and refresher for the heat! It's inspired me to look for more comforting citrus like it. Definitely a staple in my wardrobe. EDIT EDIT EDIT: I've had a 1.7oz spray since February and I'm now dangerously close to finishing the bottle. Classic has become a workhorse in my wardrobe. It simply smells good, and was easy for me to wear over this grueling summer.

A very fresh unisex citrus scent made unique with a heavy dose of honeysuckle. Extremely dilute formula, you can use it quite liberally without offending. It fades quickly as many citrus scents do. One note I don't see above is grapefruit, it's in there, white or green tea as well, pronounced. None of the heavy citrus notes of bergamot, but fresh citrus and flowers and tea. I do wonder sometimes if my masculinity will be questioned when I wear this, but it seems to work well for men and women... like a CK1 fragrance. I still like this one a lot. It's a lightweight unoffensive spring/summer/warm weather fragrance. Good for the office or everyday, I know a lot of people have this, and it doesn't cling to the skin forever, but it's pretty wonderful.

I have loved this fragrace for years and years now. Its my number 1 default when i dont know what to wear. By far the most versatile scent in my wardrobe and completely unisex. I ran out of my original bottle i bought years ago and bought a new one recently, both times from the BR store directly. They DEFINITELY reformulated this, sad to say. It has way more of that pink grapefruit note found in their W and M fragrances, which wasnt there before. It also used to last FOREVER. Not anymore. I guess i cant complain though, considering I got a 4.2 oz bottle for $18 on their Black Friday sale. Still one of my favorites nonetheless. I do get compliments with this.

Freshness in a bottle!!! Great clean smelling spring/summer scent. It initially smells like lime but settles down to something more subtle and fresh. The only down side ,for me, is that it does not last for more than 5 hours. This is a safe scent to use in an office. No one would be offended. Beautiful. Heavenly, I should say. Nice and clean and very well blended. Immediately thought that this is what angels smell like. Love that it has that faint musk note present enough to be unisex and that men can enjoy smelling like fresh linen and light flowers too. Was genuinely surprised by longevity and sillage. I thought it would be terrible for the great price and clean scent. But it lasted almost six hours on my skin. That's a good frag in my books. A little linear is the only complaint I could make. It does smell relatively the same from opening to dry down. But some could see that as a positive. Scent 8/10 Longevity 6/10 Sillage 5/10

I am a huge fan of this fragrance. It is not offensive and doesn’t really project but it smells really nice and pleasant and clean and fresh like everyone else said already. You can wear this to the grocery store in sweats or to the bar with friends in a t-shirt and jeans, or to the office. This fits most situations. It doesn’t scream at all for attention and doesn’t even really beckon a compliment, but nobody will ever be offended. This might be more for the wearer ham others around them. Unisex for sure, but not overly feminine or masculine. Well done.

I like this, make no mistake about it, this is a great fragrance. Unlike many others here, I don't find this ultra zingy to the point of leaning more towards masculinity. Citruses are evenly mixed with the florals that's why on first sniff, I found this to be a proper unisex fragrance. The scent evolves throughout. Citruses on the top, then when the heart develops so does the florals. Woods and musk becomes noticable at the base. Perfect for summer and casual days. A good buy and would buy again if this bottle runs out.

This was my mom's perfume when I was a kid. My dad is super sensitive to fragrances and this is the only one he could tolerate. It's very 90's, unisex, fresh, clean, casual. The honeysuckle, clementine, and ginger are most noticeable to my nose. When I got my new bottle it smelled somewhat familiar and brought me back to my childhood, but my mom didn't think it was very similar, so it has likely been reformulated. There's a certain ...glue note in the opening that doesn't smell quite right, but it dissipates quickly.

So glad I discovered this little gem. Freshly laundered linen beast. Lasts all day. Which is strange because i see it getting low marks for longevity on Fragrantica. I am the FIRST person who will tell you if a frag sucks in the longevity department. I spray my bottle and this beauty lasts all day on me, skin or clothing. Did i get lucky? Or is the frag just being hated on? Either way, I will be re-upping when my bottle done.

I have finished at least three bottles in the past. It is a safe scent for office and almost all social occasions. Clean and crisp and gives a very pleasant mood. Love the classy, thick glass bottle. Extremely good value given the price. Weak performance in terms of lasting power, but can be sprayed all over generously without over-powering.

The smell of this is fresh, clean, joyful, lovely. The only problem is that it is very soft and weak, but the bottle is huge, the price is cheap so it can be reapplied several times a day. 1-2 hours max has that cool freshness. The most intensive notes to my nose are - honeysuckle, mandarin and green notes - i love it!

I have been wearing this fragrance on and off since it first came out. It's a fresh clean scent that's citrus and green on me. I like wearing it when I'm on leisure time and dressed comfortably and just want a subtle inoffensive scent. If you like CK One, which I do, then you will like this fragrance.

I picked this up at TJ Maxx this week, 2 bottles for $10! It smells way more expensive than that. Beautiful clean citrus musk. Makes me nostalgic for those 90s mall scents. Is there a soapiness to it? Yes. Don't let that scare you away, though. It's one of the best clean scents out there.

One of my favorites..It stays on my skin all day long..very clean, fresh at first, then the base notes linger for a long time..I keep smelling my arms and clothes when I wear this..love it! I have and love the Classic too but this one is the best fragrance of Banana Republic!

Had this as my signature fragrance for ages, and is still one of my top favorites. A perfect crisp, upbeat scent that isn't too harsh - ideal for everyday wear. On my skin, I don't find any of the notes overpower the other; it just creates a lovely air of "clean".

Just fresh, clean linen. I don't know why anyone would rate this as having poor longevity. As the owner of over 250 bottles of fragrance let me tell you this lasts a good 10 hours on me, skin or fabric. Did I get lucky with a magic bottle?

I got this dirt cheap at a Marshall's & I'm happy I did. Awesome soapy clean scent & a good dumb reach for a hot Texas summer day. Not a crowd pleaser but I love it. Pretty similar to Arrogant by English Laundry to me.

Male review: If I have to take one fragrance to my deserted Island then this would be the one. The best fragrance out there for me. I can wear this all the time and everyday...Summer,Winter, Spring Fall -)

I got this one for 20 $ 🤑 and it is a Winner for the Price, even if it costed 3 or 4 times more. It dosen’t last forever but at that pricepoint you can spray a lot and often

Fresh and sweet, with citrus and cool water, kind and soft. Remember me Moschino Uomo? - Allure Cologne Sport but softer than them.

Scent 9/10 Longevity 7/10.. I get like 6 and 1/2 hours on the skin longer on the clothes!

Classic EDT: soapy, cleaner Ck one without the baby powder note, fresh, not remotely sweet. Truly unisex and great for when I simply want to smell clean & respectable. I can’t imagine that this fragrance would bother anyone. It literally smells like soap. It has never given me a headache. The following flankers aren't in the database yet, but a couple weeks ago I bought them at my local Burlington, thought it might help out someone else: Classic Red EDP: dark red ombre glass bottle, a tinge less citrus, richer/tiny bit of sweetness, slightly more staying power than the EDT. My impression is that this is supposed to be a nighttime version of the original EDT. Classic Green EDP: My favorite of the flankers, if you like Vera Wang Embrace Green Tea & Pear Blossom or Elizabeth Arden Green Tea you're going to love this. Classic Acqua EDP: The only one of the flankers that I don't think I can pull off, it's very masculine on me. It's lacking the calone/melon vibe that I personally like. This isn't acqua in an Acqua di Gio way. Juice is baby blue so I expected it to be more ocean-y, but this is men's shower gel on me. Classic Citrus EDP: True to the name, it smells like the EDT with the citrus turned up. This is an oversimplification but it smells citrus and it smells like soap. Would be nice for hot weather, I'm going to save it for summer. This is the only one of the flankers that I can smell a musk in the drydown. Sometimes they’re in the men’s section, sometimes in the women’s. $19.99 for 4.2 oz.

A strong "like" bordering on "love"... With Classic, Banana Republic serves up another one of those don't-have-to-think-too-hard offerings; those bottles you reach for when you aren't too sure what mood you're in that day or simply want to smell fresh. Veeery citrusy, refreshing and soapy clean. I'd actually put this behind Nautica Voyage- one of the most dependable classic go-to's around. Not beside, but right behind. My favorite aspect of Classic is its After The Rain vibe. It's soothing Amazonian forest appeal. Actually it's the tropical forest just before you emerge from among the trees and reach the beach. It's almost beachy in the sense that you can smell the salty sea air in the distance- maybe half a mile away. Wonderful summertime fragrance. I can see this being a favorite of an uncomplicated no-frills type dude. The male version of Jennifer Aniston (Jennifoh Aniston?). That low maintenance easy-breazy kind of style that somehow works. Full sized bottles are more than affordable. The packaging (box and bottle) is classy and expensive looking. Safe to blind buy.

As I tested some scents from this line, I can say this is the best so far. I said as I really hate the dominant citrus scents and I have just a few unisex perfume, because I cant wear masculine fragrance on me. But this is an exception: I agree its ideal for both sexes, its enough feminine on me. Its citrusy but warmly sweet and spicy. Finally this is not soapy, soapyness makes me crazy in a wrong way, a bit more than citruses. I can say yes, I could definitely wear and enjoy it, amongst the other scents of this brand this is me. For winter its sure, but I can imagine for other seasons too (I'll retest it later) and for every occasions, because its real CLASSIC. Im curious about W and Jade at least, they are the last ones which are availables in my country and I didnt tested so far. BR makes the perfumes with the most professional attitude, because the scents turns out, playing on my skin and makes different metamorphoses such like I could wear many different perfumes at the same time. This playful habit makes me curious and amazed. Well done.

Way back when Classic launched I picked this up and it became my go-to. Office work. Weekend shopping. Meeting friends for lunch. A first date, even. Since Banana Republic was considered a bit upscale for a mall store it carried with it a certain minimalist de rigueur. Safe, smart, and still interesting. The bergamot is a natural, zingy deodorant and in Classic it's blended with other zesty notes like clementine and ginger. Yet, it is still soft somehow. Last night I bought the first bottle of Classic I'd seen in ages, a big 3.4 ouncer, UPDATE: and on my beveled glass bathroom shelf it went---because it now smells SO much like a strong, sharp, laundry-like bar of soap. Whew.

Having read all the other reviews, I didn't want to simply Re-hash what I've already read.... So I'll simply give a few bullet points: *Very very safe scent for just about any occasion on very hot, humid and stuffy days.... *Casual, lunch, gym, dress it up, dress it down *Fantastic drydown- it blew me away considering the name..... *Great bang for your buck- given what you pay for this- the value is exceptional! *TRUST ME ON THIS: on those not so hot and humid days- layer this with Orange Sapphire lotion by Bath & Body Works.... The two go exceptionally well together.... Like a full bodied Cabernet paired with an organic grass-fed fillet Mignon & Asparagus.....

This is just OK. I bought it blindly because I liked W, which I like better than this. It's a little too masculine for me. Mine came in a 2 pack so I gave my husband one, I would never give him one that I would think leans toward the feminine side. It is pleasant and refreshing and I don't think would be offensive to anyone. Seems like more of a summer/spring scent to me. Smells citrus, fresh and clean. I will wear this when stepping out of the shower or just lazing around the house or run to the market, nothing fancy. Oh and I will also wear this before and after the gym too since it's pretty light. Light to moderate staying power and moderate sillage.

This was available in a two bottle set, each one a 50ml EDT spray (one for you and one for "whomever"...I am guessing!) at a discount retailer for 20 US dollars, and I said "eeh, it is probably just another clean aquatic scent..."!! *kicks self, hard* I must stop doing that! This sounds like the perfect scent for someone who is neither too masculine or too feminine! I will have to hunt it down...again! NB: Never trust the mens/womens placement of perfumes in those places either...most of the SAs could care less! This was in the mens section...

Intense citrus opening reminds me of Heart by Garden Botanika. Classic doesn't have the floral notes of Heart, it stays mainly citrus and green. Drydown is quick, the scent almost disappears into the skin, leaving a hint behind. Very useful for any situation where a strong perfume would be unacceptable. Definitely unisex, this fresh fragrance is good for wearers of any age and a good bargain to boot. I like simple scents like this as a change of pace from the heavy favorites like Youth Dew and Cinnabar I usually wear.

Fresh, clean, soapy. These are the three words I would use to describe Banana Republic's Classic, a fragrance which has been out for quite some time now. This is a no frills citrus soap fragrance, with bergamot and clementine sitting at the forefront, while the honeysuckle remains to create that "soapy" accord. It's nice and definitely unisex. If you're looking for a soapy fragrance, I'd give it a try. At the price it goes for online you don't have much to lose.

It was almost my scent of skipping the gym but it inspired me to stop being lazy because the smell was invigorating and so clean. Soapy kick off, green leaves, orange, and grapefruit open. I do get some of the honeysuckle, other white florals, and ginger in the heart (not in base). The base itself was musky, residually soapy, and vaguely woody. I think this is actually going to be a consistent gym fragrance rotation pick.

A very nice and uplifting fresh floral. Definitely get the unisex vibe as this really comes across as simply a very nice scent. A bright and cheerful citrus and honeysuckle accord with a hint of ginger resonates from the start well into the life of the fragrance which isn't too shabby itself. Pretty linear but not boring at all. Always perks up my mood when I mess with the stuff. Definitely worth a try.

My mom had this EDT last summer and it was a perfect timing as the heat was sweltering at that time. We had to settle for light, citrusy, crisp, fresh fragrances and this was spot on. It's a classic unisex fragrance similar to CK One but I liked it more. I think this works for minimalist, simple people for casual or corporate setting. It's pretty good so I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars.

It is the weakest perfume in my collection. Even though it is an Eau de Parfum concentration it is just like water. I need to re-apply every fifteen minutes in order to smell it. The scent itself is lovely though. Fresh, clean, citrusy nothing heavy. Just like a fresh breeze. The bottle is amazing. Heavy, minimalist thick glass. Because of the lack of performance I wouldn't re-buy it.

I have to be honest, I didn't expect much and was pleasantly surprised. For me this has a specific purpose, it's my clean laundry scent. This is amazing on clothes or sprayed in the linen closet or even a bit on pillows for clean freshness. It just smells clean. Scent - 7/10 Performance - 5/10

This is a clean, fresh scent with hints of green notes. I like this one. Very good for work and also good for those Triple digit days that are coming in the summer. Found this on the clearance rack with 2 in a box for a low price.

A great everyday scent. smells clean without being antiseptic. a 90's scent that's kept its relevance. safe enough for the office, but equally applicable for hanging out. medium longevity and short lived projection

I really enjoyed how this one smelled, very light and citrusy. It’s a great everyday smell. Unfortunately within an hour or two it’s completely gone. I feel like you’d have to spray it 5-8 times to be noticeable.

It's a good scent, but not particularly strong or long lasting. I use this as a work perfume or for daytime activities. It's cheap and get the job done. Smell is of citrus and a little floral.

The smell is like posh lemon-fragrant soap in a good way - not overpowering nor offensive. Very refreshing but the longevity and the sillage are weak. Can be used on both men and women

A simple, uplifting, fresh scent. The ginger gives this a spicy punch. Unisex to my nose. This was a safe blind buy. Projection is moderate but for the price you can overspray.

Smells exactly like Bath and Body Works Sapphire Orange. Banana Republic might be a little more Crisp smelling, a tad more complex, but they are very, very close!

Upon wearing this frag, it makes me smell like a zesty fruit basket filled with citrus fruits. I love this scent, yet too bad, my bottle's almost empty. :(

This cologne is good lemony cologne for unisex Summer daytime.

Ok people might hear this and think that it’s too much... but if you have the fragrances already just try it out. So I had Banana Republic's Classic for a while. Good clean smell but projection and performance was always an issue. I wanted to find something to pair it with and after close to a hundred attempts I found this: For every two sprays of Banana Rep. Classic spray (1) EDP ARMAF Hunter (silver cap w/ brown leather, yellow/clear) and (1)one spray Clinique Happy for Men. The Hunter gives it a base WITHOUT overpowering the unique clean scent from Classic. But the Clinique (which was just a massive disappointment on its own) gives it this light airiness orange note... it forces citrus into the Classic scent. Neither of these fragrances overpower the other and you’re left with this super addictive, clean, warm scent - is it a designer fragrance? No, not at all. But it smells amazing IMO. Cost wise, I’m pretty sure I paid the most for the Clinique Happy - pad retail and close to $80USD. The Hunter was $30-$40 and I’m pretty sure I grabbed the Classic for at or around $20ish. I had these fragrances already so if you have them... check this out. If you don’t have them or if you’re thinking of buying them BR Classic.... It’s a clean scent. If you’re someone who wants to put a fragrance on once in the AM or start of your day and be done with it - this isn’t for you. Max you get 2-3 hours and it’s a faint scent on skin. If you’re someone who plans on carrying an additional atomizer for any fragrance, as long as it’s a good scent, yes you would like this IF you’re going for a ‘nothing special but clean scent.’ Is this going to get you compliments? Probably not... not from strangers. No one will ask what it is or what house makes it lol. You may have coworkers compliment that you smell good... really they’re saying you smell clean lol. For the money, and if you’re looking for a fresh and clean scent, you could pick this up. I wouldn't say this is a blind buy safe. Yes, it’s a clean smell but I feel like SOME may enjoy this a lot, SOME may enjoy it but not want to wear it as a signature scent, and SOME may simply not like it. Getting a decant of this would be next to impossible seeing how old this is... so just take the suggestions you get here in the comments and make a decision. Personally, I don’t regret buying it.

Banana Republic’s Classic is a simple, fresh, citrusy musk. I’m really, really not big on fresh musk fragrances (yet another gift from my father, oops), but this is the least offensive one in my collection. It’s softer and more elegant— probably the florals at play— making it feminine-leaning unisex. Slight sweet like crisp clementine, but if you love sweet fragrances don’t expect much. The ginger thankfully isn’t too spicy. It reminds me of those travel sized complimentary liquid body washes from a hotel that you would take home while on vacation to use again later. If you’re trying to smell like you just stepped out of the shower, this is a bright and refreshing choice. I think it works very well as a professional daytime summer and perhaps late spring fragrance, though other occasions are appropriate as well. I don’t dislike it, and it has somewhat grown on me, which is saying something if you know of my tastes.

Loved this when it came out in the 90s! I had it in a solid perfume. It was the epitome of clean and classy! Absolutely beautiful! I recently added it back into my collection and it does smell reminiscent of my solid perfume but it wears incredibly light. Of course a solid perfume is a petroleum based stick so that lasts forever on the skin. At first, this leans a bit more masculine than the solid perfume, but as it dries down it gets a bit “prettier”. I’d definitely consider this a unisex fragrance and would be great on both a man or woman. It’s fresh and light, perfect for hot summer days!
