Dirty Rainbow

A fragrance that pleasantly surprised me with its softness and harmony. It opens with delicate, slightly spicy saffron, which doesn't come across as aggressive but rather as refined and enveloping. Within just 10 minutes, a hint of peach emerges, adding an elegant fruity sweetness to the composition without being overly rich. The lavender here is very soft and slightly cool, giving the scent an airy, fresh quality. It is complemented by a green ivy accord, creating an impression of refined natural purity. Violet adds a touch of powderiness. The fragrance is beautifully composed-each note transitions smoothly into the next, forming a cohesive and well-balanced picture. It is not loud, yet it carries charisma and style. Dirty Rainbow feels sophisticated and slightly eccentric, yet at the same time cozy and comfortable to wear.

I surprisingly really liked this! The rainbow drew me in and I was under the impression that this brand makes really bleh smelling perfumes, but oh my god I went through almost 20 different expensive brands in the day, and this one was my favorite! I have no clue how to describe the smell, but aaaah i love the little text on the bottom too!!

To my nose and on my skin it gives a very pleasant "just photocopied" vibe. Sweet notes mixed with the ozonic ones that come after a long photocopy session. Almost like candy floss stuck behind the photocopier. Super interesting!

Omg this is so good. I get complimented a lot. Hard to find nowadays. I was lucky to find this on Mercari. To me it has Rosendo 5 with a fruity smell. Ssoooooooo good

I'm just here for the saffron, and it's got plenty of it. Highly recommend if you are into saffron fragrances.

So I just got number 191/2000 and I’m here to give you a review solemnly based on the fragrance rather than bigotry. First up, this is a BOMB in the opening but in a good way if you like saffron, spices and the scent taking over all of your body and soul with a whif. It starts out very strong. I don’t get much peach yet but tbh I reviewed it moments after the cargo arrived and as far as I’ve seen, even the most macerated perfumes I bought second hand change temporarily, especially in the opening while being shipped so its always best to leave it be for a day or two to get the full experience. On paper, the scent evolves more into the crisp lavender and green notes within an hour but on skin, it turns more towards sweeter notes such as the orange blossom. The peach scared me a little when blind buying this due to my personal hate towards scents such as bitter peach, passion island, erba pura and the worst of it all, kirke BUT its nothing like that. It does not have that “tropical car freshener left out in summer heat” kind of a cloying peach, its more like its there to keep the scent on the sweeter side, its actually bit hard to detect even. I liked that it resembles some great bangers like Rosendo 5 but my only question is that since this was a pride month launch, why is it such a winter fragrance? Chatgpt says its because brands focus more on the aura of the scent rather than their launch season and I agree but from the notes and the collection title, I expected more of an all seasons type of scent. This is very strong, completely unisex and was delicious to wear on Ankara winter (like 5 to -2 celsius in the evening) Its well blended, wearable, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, reminds me of if Rosendo 5 and Love Dont Be Shy had a BEAST baby but is not a copy of either one. Its an overall 8/10 on my book

This is really pretty and interesting. I immediately got something very gourmand for the first 15 minutes, as it dries down, the violet rears her despicable head. If you like sweet, interesting notes, with some violet this is for you. Unfortunately I just can't deal with that evil little flower in fragrance.

If I close my eyes and disregard the listed notes, it smells to me like a futuristic blueberry pie crafted by robots. I enjoy this and will be purchasing a full bottle.

Is anything more eye-roll inducing than when people come to Fragrantica simply to boast a political stance on a perfume rather than, well, actually reviewing it? The people barking platitudes about this fragrance are ironically the same people who bemoaned a lack of gay representation in media in the 90s and 00s. You can’t have it both ways, y’all. If you can’t help yourself from ranting about the commercialization of Pride, that’s fine, I guess, even if it is very much having-your-rainbow-dyed-cake and eating it, too. But kindly also take a few moments to step down from your soap box and write an actual review of the fragrance. And for the record, if you’ve actually done your homework (some of you clearly haven’t), you’d know that Born To Stand Out has publicly stated that, "Every single penny of the proceeds from this fragrance will be donated to carefully selected LGBTQ+ organizations, in countries where it is sold.” So you can hardly accuse them of not being altruistic or of doing a lazy cash grab. Now, to the actual review. The idea of basing the notes in Dirty Rainbow on the colors of the rainbow (red saffron, orange blossom, yellow peach, green ivy, blue lavender and purple violet) is, admittedly, pretty cool...if not a tad gimmicky. Yet, Dirty Rainbow is a swing and a miss in a few ways. The saffron is the note that’s most prominent, and it’s both front and center and mildly pleasant. However, the saffron here isn’t as sophisticated as Born To Stand Out’s Drunk Saffron, and Dirty Rainbow is overshadowed by that far superior bottle. Instead, the six notes contained within Dirty Rainbow begin in-fighting with one another to leave you with a confusing mishmash of a fragrance. It congeals into an overly synthetic scent that borders on plasticky and which does – perhaps arriving at its inevitable and predestined conclusion – come across as being just as artificial and fake as all those corporate products being churned out during Pride month and the morally smug and superior backlash they inspire. Dirty Rainbow is overall quite unremarkable, and you can put this one back in the closet. In five words or less: Harmless, but uninspired.

I wanted to love it, but I just couldn't. The only rainbow it gives is a rainbow of gasoline in a puddle on the asphalt. I was so distracted by the unpleasant chemical feeling I got from this fragrance I had to wash it off my skin every time I tried to wear it. I even thought maybe it was just my skin chemistry with it, but no, my friend had the same impression. Such a pity, the concept was cool, I like the brand a lot, but this is just a miss :(

People who clearly don’t know the brand, its culture or its values griping about a release that is clearly and harmonically in alignment with all 3. With all the hate in the world, we still find room to launch attacks at those committed to being allies and supporting virtuous causes. But hey, freedom of speech. Shout out to BTSO for being about artistic and human freedom across the board. I fuxx wit that!!

I am so over the fetishization of queer/gay people and their relationships. Especially from these brands that definitely try too hard, constantly using words like “dirty, drunk, porn, etc.”

Warm caramel, pecan vanilla ice cream, powdery musk, almonds and smooth leather. Embracing, cozy yet sexy gourmand.
