Vétiver Nocturne

The first time I spray it on, I am greeted by what is probably the most realistic version of a fresh bouquet of flowers I have ever smelt. The best part? The dusty synthetic rose à la Oud Satin Mood is missing. Yes! A direct hit! What awaits me here are juicy, bright flowers standing in the flower shop. No fun, I get goose bumps every time I think about it. In an interview with Dmitry I once heard that infusions of flowers in sandalwood or oud represent the traditional way of making oriental attars. Interesting. With this first floral push, or almost immediately afterwards, a base of creamy sandalwood resonates directly. Deep dark, slightly musky and animal-like. That's why even after a few hours it still looks as if the flowers are still there - but I think that the mainly natural (I hope so!?) ingredients are the combination of sandalwood and vetiver. Natural floral notes supposedly evaporate quite quickly. Speaking of... the vetiver here is very different from anything I've ever known. It is much greener, grasier, somehow more "realistic" than usual. Weird. I mainly see it in the drydown and sniffing the nebulizer (which I do, by the way, because I love this perfume so much). So no sooo vetiver-heavy perfume at all, as you might think at first. The drydown is complemented by a slightly spicy, balsamic oud note. But mainly it's sandalwood, then vetiver and then the oud. A masterpiece!

This is a masterclass vetiver in EDP format Lots of brightness in the opening between the bergamot, neroli, champaca, jasmine, and frangipani. I'm really digging these grand florals these days. However, the fragrance is titled VN, which makes sense because the darkness of the vetiver contrasts the citrus floral combo. I barely get the spiciness from cardamom, which is great because cardamom can be powerful at times. I get a "white" Amber sea spray. I can see the lively young Khus following the opening. A hint of myrrh seems to pop in and out. The sandal combo is great...super sweet n creamy. It's tough to identify the oakmoss apart from the aged vetiver...they have similar earthy tones. I don't get much Oud...maybe a hint of sour sweet tanginess that has a "yusuf" like quality. I need to spend some more time listening to this stuff as always. Regardless, I know this is very, very good. You can tell the perfumer loves his materials. This composition does not follow a particular structure, which makes this very interesting to me.

I was one of the first to try out the three new ones from Bortnikoff. And wow! This one for me easily is top 3 for releases in niche perfumes this year. Huge fan of this and Oud max. Man.. the sweetness of Jasmine and sandal and other florals combined to make this beautiful very wearable fragrance where oud lurks behind to come out to play when you pay close attention to the perfume. If I didn't enjoy this I would not be able to write about it like this.. This perfume just has enough and the right amount of everything and I really love it.. I totally understand this perfume. Puts a huge smile to my face walking around with this on. I really hope all of you can try out this amazing fragrance and understand how all of these ingredients work together so well. I challenge people to try to pick apart the notes since they are so well blended and nothing jumps out at you but at the same time it is so complex.. Really good job on this one.

Beautiful perfume, for me it pictures a night garden full of white florals, sitting on a bench with your loved one. you won't get much of the vetiver in the opening, starts with a white floral Bouquet, the dark Vetiver enters the Bal after 30 minutes. If you are a hardcore vetiver lover, I would recommend checking out Nishane Sultan Vetiver, even if the ingredients with all Bortnikoff perfumes are way better. This one is amazing perfect for meditative evenings, it is very soothing, relaxing and enchanting (Original Vetiver oil is known for these virtues). moderate longevity & sillage. When I got my first 10ml decant, I broke it so I splashed everything on my upper body... I nearly fainted because of the intoxicating white florals. Amazing scent. 8.5/10

Introduced to this a week or so ago and it has completely captivated me. I am already familiar with Dmitry's friend Russian Adam's compositions and I can really feel Dmitry has something uniquely fantastic composed in this scent. I absolutely love Vetiver Nocturne it's natural makeup of a young Ruh Khus and Indonesian sandalwood framed and distilled as only a expert perfumer can do. I am so on board with Dmitry's work and anxious to try Oud Maximus in the coming days. Awesome,I am a fan. I may not be the only one as this Bortnikoff is selling quickly it seems.

Stunning, unlike any vetiver you may have experienced. The blending with florals using high quality ingredients is definitely noticeable. Projection and sillage is outstanding. I love the smell. This is one of the best fragrance houses, in my opinion. I've already ordered the 3rd iteration of fragrances and looking forward to them. Try a sample but bling buying for me has worked out great. I have the Attar version of this. Open with a blast of earthy green vetiver and heavy camphor/minty Oud, basically that's the main accord carrying through the mid and dry down, with a hint of Oakmoss, natural ambergris, and myrrh. Couldn't really smell any other notes here. This is very linear with below-average longevity of about 5hr.

One of the best vetiver compositions definitely up there with bal dafrique and incedent diplmatique, but much more complex and unique. Overall: 9/10 As vetiver composition i would rate 10/10

Still a little new to fragrances and I'm on my vetiver journey so I got 5ml samples of Vetiver Nocturn... Vetiver Extraordinaire... and Basso. VN is much darker, than the other 2.... at first I get flowers and burnt rubber... or maybe it's the smell of newley printed money.... but the opening is my least favorite of the 3.... VE opens brighter and more interesting but not as intense, and Basso opens up the brightest and most "clean smelling" .... After the opening fades in VN the burnt rubber smell dissapates and I get a thicker syrupy-floral vetiver thats still dark but turns more luxurious and pleasant which I'm guessing is the Champaca... I think it's going to take me a few wearings to really appreciate this one.... very strong so will have to be mindful of this one.... Will update after a few more wearings .... I could see this being worn any season and time.... for now it's a Like :)

I think this is a perfume that really depends on when you wear it and the weather. The first time I smelled Vetiver Nocturne, it was Frangipani and Jasmine Sambac. That's all I got. The second time I wore it, lots of Vetiver came through and I started to like it. So I think if you're interested in it, just give it a couple of wears a few times apart to get an overview on whether it changes on your skin or smells the same every time. @Buysblind - you're funny, I enjoyed your review! Definitely not for the average male enthusiast! And 2-3 sprays? No wonder your house was full. These extraits are pretty strong, I only wear 1 spray (2 Max) at a time.

A really interesting Oriental Fougere centered around a nice vetiver, which actually remains a bit hidden amongst all the heavy florals, woods and spices. The perfume opens on a distinct fougere note with aromatic citruses (neroli, bergamot, frangipani and cardamaom). The rooty vetiver comes in the heart which also includes champaca, jasmine, myrrh and oakmoss. As the perfume dries, one can detect hints of sandalwood, oud and ambergris. The quality of the natural ingredients and the nice blending are assets. Unisex with strong sillage and projection and very good longevity. Overall the feeling is of bright and happy Oriental luxury. In my opinion, the best review is by Buysblind below. This fragrance has nothing to do with vetiver or at least traditional vetiver scents, this is a yellow floral and tropical floral scent. High-quality and long-lasting fragrance that is unisex but leans masculine, it definitely has that "old-lady vibe". It is more like an art than something you can wear daily or even occasionally. My three female friends didn't like this scent. Sample before you buy.

i don't get no vetiver here at all, mainly a champaca. this feels like a misleading name to me..as a vetiver purchase this is nothing special, as a champaca fragrance it is amazing, the best use of champaca i've encountered yet. but as far as my vetiver cravings go, this does not meet the requirements.. if i want a VETIVER-based scent i'd go with vetiver extraordinaire, if i want a CHAMPACA-based scent i'd go with vetiver nocturne.

Sooooo. This review is for the attar of the same. I cannot compare against the Extrait as I have not smelled it as of this review. The attar is straight minty earthy vetiver. I don't get much more and was not looking for it to be. I wanted an uber authentic vetiver with the more earthy almost dirt like accord. I plan on layering with another heavy accord like tobacco or oud. The notes say oud is in there, but I cannot smell it.

Worn best with an open shirt, Russian star tattoos, oil money and a headache. Claudius from Ophelia wears this.

I’m not sure what is the true purpose of this house Every brand has a vision or an idea Some copy scents for profit Others create incredible designs and concepts a lot try to create a better version of original works And the rarest of the rare is the brand that tries its best with the help of incredible perfumers to create genres out a single scent But here I think they are trying so hard to achieve something Maybe an image Might be a fanbase Not sure yet maybe while trying the rest of their line I might get a clearer picture Now regarding this scent it’s wild For my fellow reviewers that never smelled raw Vetiver concentrated oil this is the closest fragrance I’ve smelled to date The problem is pure Vetiver oil is so vegetal so rooty that makes it very hard to wear even in little doses So I’m not sure why would the perfumer use Vetiver in such huge doses It makes the fragrance hard to wear and even harder for the notes to show in the formula I felt he overdid the fragrance with the amount of the oil he added I seriously hope this scent has a fanbase although if you ask me it’s the closest thing to be discontinued than the rest of the brand

Nope. Comes across very synthetic to me, which is surprising given Bortnikoff's reputation for natural materials. This further reinforces my perception that Bortnikoff isn't consistently great on composition and blending. However, I have a full bottle of Moss Cologne. Great citrus moss, especially the opening. And Amber Cologne is on my to-buy list. But Vetiver Nocturne...sorry, this will get voted off, but none of the glowing, detailed reviews below make sense to me. I'll just repost it. But I didn't like Nishane Sultan Vetiver either, so there you go.

For $330, now you, too, can reek of the stinkiest cheese in the cellar. The combination of cloying yellow florals and rancid base notes is truly off-putting. As a vetiver-lover, I’m pretty annoyed I spent any money at all on something that doesn’t convey the most minute sense of its namesake. If you're looking to smell like a pair of extremely sweaty feet that may have trampled some flowers at some point during their hippie-like shoe-less day, by all means-- sample away.

Vetiver of the night? I don't know...I'd disagree. I'd say maybe it's the vetiver of one's rich, highly perfumed and made-up aunt. Or grandmother. This does not seem like vetiver for a man, or a nocturnal vetiver of any sort. It's largely consumed by powerful pale white and yellow floral accords, which all but subdue the vetiver into a light, rooty and grassy variety just perceptible below the champaca, frangipani, and jasmine notes which dominate beginning around the 10th minute of development. The opening is harsh, a sour smell approximating fermented hay which is neither fresh or particularly dark, but perhaps musty and damp, and certainly not my favorite opening to a fragrance. I think if you like white and yellow floral notes, specifically those listed in the pyramid here, that you will like this a lot. They have a very nice, natural, and robust quality to them, and when Vetiver Nocturne reaches the dry down phase they smell vibrant and vivid. But if you are expecting something vetiver-centric, or something which plays upon the dark, or the illumination of the moon in the night, or really anything *nocturnal, you may feel a little confused and let down by this fragrance. Bortnikoff has a very nice presentation; regarding its packaging it seems to have taken a page directly out of the book of Areej Le Dore. I have no qualms there. And Vetiver Nocturne has excellent performance. After two or three sprays it could be smelled intensely emanating throughout my house (much to the dismay of my wife, who didn't like it at all and told me I should gift it to her grandmother). So for those of you who are into Bortnikoff, and appreciate his exploration of tropical yellow and white florals in relation to vetiver and have no issues wearing something so intensely flora and with such a rough, unpleasant opening, more power to you. I apologize for the non-plussed remarks and wish you the utmost enjoyment with your new fragrance. But for the average male enthusiast out there, who may be feeling a little adventurous and has come across this new house receiving high marks and has now stumbled upon a fragrance with a promising and intriguing name (Vetiver Nocturne sounds good, doesn't it?), I would suggest you tread with caution. Absolutely sample this first as it is most likely not what you might expect from the name alone. However, the note pyramid is very honest, and with even the slightest bit of reading you should realize quickly that this is largely a floral scent, leaning feminine in my opinion, and possibly not what you were really looking for. I do not like the way it smells and was eager to wash it off of me. Since it's in a style I so vehemently do not enjoy I'll refrain from giving it a numerical score, as I'm probably not the right person to objectively assess this one.

Instead of chocolate, my 2025 Advent calendar will reveal one completely new (new to my nose, I mean) scent in the form of a sample. The reviews that are coming are hence to be considered as very first impressions. Vetiver Nocture by Bortinkoff was samle number 1. Breathless as I smelled the quality of the raw materials: an amazing neroli in the opening as I have no long experienced since the '80s and a beatiful frangipani that finally does not come as a shampoo. The opening is so crystall clear that I am taken to the entrance of a tropical forest, a feeling that is accrued when the vetiver emerges: extremely green, slightly camphoraceous. The vetiver is engenteled by a sof jasmine and a good dose of champaca. The impression of the forest increases as the oakmoss emerges. Sandalwood and a purified Oud complete the base of this creation.

Among the Bortnikoff perfumes, in which flowers instead of Oud take the center stage, Vetiver Nocturne is unrivaled. With an exquisite bouquet of white and yellow flowers floating above the sandalwood and Oud foundation, and vetiver interlacing and amplifying these strata ... I can smell a beautiful bouquet of white flowers, with freshly-cut green stalks and crushed tender leaves! Masterfully-blended Vetiver Nocturne is so unique that I cannot think of any other perfume that will remind me of it. I am an ordinary perfume lover so I will not even attempt to technically break Vetiver Nocturne down to its ingredients. All I know is that it is beautiful, and that’s enough reason for me to sing its praises!

A perplexing, dazzling take on vetiver. Oakmoss, sandalwood, oud, and ambergris are just oh so creamy from the start. Has a minty nuance of ruh khus and a great burst of jasmine and champaca absolute to balance some sweetness against the earthen aspects of the grass. At times the whole thing skews fruity-indolic, like very ripe bananas, papayas or mangoes. And at other times the various contrasts of fresh, floral, deep earthen, sweet fruit pushes it into Bortnikoff’s somewhat familiar territory of bubble gum fit for a king.

Bortnikoff Vetiver Nocturne. As the name says it is the vetiver of the night. Don't expect any freshness from this vetiver fragrance but rather the oriental punch this frag gives is immaculate. Starts up with the jasmine note which is taken over in just 10minutes by the spiciness from the myrrh,sandalwood,pepper. The middle and the basenote has prominent dark vetiver. Very unique composition to lay your nose upon. Dmitry did a wonderful job Lasts more than 15 hours with superb solid projection

Paints a scene of one standing in a humid rainforest with unripe green bananas hanging all around you. A lovely vetiver-centered, almost dewy rose fragrance with a tonka-like sweetness as well as a powdery musk in the base. An amazing citrus in here as well, closer to neroli and mandarin than anything else. I definitely feel the green DNA from Dmitry's creation "Symphonie de Neroli" but definitely not enough to make owning both redundant. Looooovely and underrated scent from the house.

Opens as a realistic Bouquet, and yes this smells highly natural and realistic florals. However, it's the drydown that makes this kinda unique compared to other florals out there. It settles into something you would imagine a lemon tree would smell like. Vetiver, grass and lemon peel to be exact. The lemon peel is a nice touch and not something i've smelled in floral scents before. A unique take on vetiver that's worth a sniff.

After a few tests, I totally agree with one of the reviewer below: this is a big tropical floral perfume. The beginning is a Amber 114-esque sweet yellow flowers scent (frangipani? Champaca?), then slowly, very slowly, it transitions to a ever-lasting Jasmine stage. If there is vetiver, it probably only serve to fill the gap of the yellow floral texture, but when jasmine begins its reign, vetiver is nowhere to be found.

Opens with bright florals and citrus. The Champaca really shines through in this for me. Then it dries down to a very green and grassy scent with hints of vetiver. To my nose, vetiver smells like peanut butter, but I do not get that here at all. One of their easier offerings i feel. 6/10
