I can see why people would smell this and get "old". To me, something about it is nostalgic. I agree with the lipstick/makeup mention- it does somewhat smell like a lipstick- but in a good way. There is a slight woody floral in it that makes me FEEL something. It is not your typical scent, it has layers and depth and a complexity to it most will not understand. It's subtly feminine, but makes me feel powerful. Reminds me what pages of an expensive book would smell like. I wear this to work on days I don't have the inner motivation, and it gives it to me. It doesn't project tot he point of being offensive to others, but you can smell it on yourself all day. It lasts, and I need that. I love this fragrance. It's a clean, floral musky and I usually am a gourmand/vanilla/patchouli girl. It's a perfect scent to wear at the end of winter, heading into spring and even into springtime.

How have I gone without reviewing this? This is a super easy reach for me, and before I got deeper into perfume collecting, I considered it my signature scent. It's the perfume that proved to me that I do, indeed, like perfume after thinking it wasn't for me for years. When they discontinued it, I panic bought three bottles and then bought two again when they re-released it with the new formula (which, by the way, smells like a cheaper more brash version and I have one for sale if anyone wants it). I don't pick up the ambroxan at all, which is lucky for me because I am extremely sensitive to it. On me, this smells mostly like osmanthus and pomelo with a mossy, earthy background. It's sort of leathery and floral, but very fresh. Gross bonus: it smells even better when you're sweating.

Lower East Side. The reviewer Hooty22 hit this on the nose. I think this fragrance was designed to smell that way and to me it’s so so comforting. I noticed it with the candle I bought so long ago but when the fragrance was announced I didn’t want to be disappointed. So I saw it was on sale and bought a travel size. Immediately ordered a big size! This smells like black hair care to me lol I know that sounds odd but it does and you should get it before it’s discontinued! Live with it let it speak and it will tell you a story

Something about this smells vintage, like vintage cosmetics. I think some people will assume that translates to grandmotherly, but I don't feel that way. It reminds me of my mom and tubes of lipstick and powder compacts she had when I was a kid. I admit that the nostalgia this elicits for me contributes to my love for it, but I also think it's a lovely musky, clean girl scent that Glossier You wearers will love.

I get baby smell from this. Lactonic and cozy, but not too warm. I love pink pepper scents, but this one is so different from those I'm used to, much softer. I see why some say it smells like makeup, it's very fresh kind of like makeup/baby wipes and little waxy like lipstick, but to me it is more fresh than powdery. A creamy, fresh skin scent; these are my favourite. I will consider this for a signature scent.

i agree with another reviewer calling it a soapy floral. it smells a little grapefruit-y to me. very fresh. it's muskier than scents i usually go for, but i love it. it feels like a very natural perfume to me and i can smell it still at the end of the day.

I love how weird this is to me! It’s sharply spicy, softly powdery, citrusy, & woody strangeness bomb! Maybe that’s why it’s discontinued? I would consider this to be my signature perfume.

Soapy floral. The pomelo note really comes through. It has a leathery quality that smells more unisex

ah, les my beloved. this was the first fragrance I purchased at sephora that started my fragrance journey, so there's a special place in my heart for it. that said, i genuinely don't know how i feel about it. there's a weird edge to it that I can't quite put my finger on, or even really decide whether or not I like it. after the initial open, the fragrance feels to me very powdery floral -- from the notes, I get mostly peony, but it's a light, powdery peony, not the deep, heady, almost umami peony. then there's that weird edge -- like cold metal. if anyone has any idea what the heck that is, I'd love to hear it. I would smell it on skin, and maybe even let it sit for a bit, before purchasing. I like it, but I think in my inexperience, I really fell in love with the scent on the card. Decent sillage, it creates a bubble for you throughout the day. You will be able to smell it if you're wearing it. It's also had pretty intense lasting power on my skin -- some fragrances seem to have dissipated by the time I get off the train in the morning, but Les still lingers 8-12hr later (maybe I oversprayed). If you like it, it's a great frag, but the drydown I think is not for everyone. I would wear it all seasons, I think there's something about the floral/metallic dichotomy that makes it work year-round.

i'm testing a 2ml sample of this fragrance. it's a really pretty but unique aquatic forward floral in my opinion. theres something about this that faintly reminds me of chlorine/swimming pool? but in the best way. theres some sharp aquatic note in here that i can't point out but i really enjoy it. its robust and bright and clean but i can't pull out a single one of the notes that this fragrance is said to have. i surprisingly enjoy this, probably not enough to buy a bottle, but theres something alluring about it. after sitting on it for a couple minutes, i do however get the vibe that if i smelled it on someone else and didn't know what it was, it would offput me because it also has a slight mildewwyness to it? but knowing its not that kind of tricks my brain and makes it smell good? idk how to really put it, but on me i like it for me and my own sniffing pleasure, but i dont think i'd love to smell it on someone else if that makes any sense... it not like its nauseating but its not like mmm yummy delicious either. the best way i can put it is, it gives "skin scent" but a skin scent thats not necessarily offensive but not necessarily fresh and clean either... think kind of like if you put on a slightly damp sweatshirt.

When smelled from the bottle spray, it is a floral sweetness with a nice 'lifting' scent sensation about 2 seconds in. Reminds me of smelling certain floral scents from magazines paper, once the perfume dies down it has a lifting sensation back to the paper smell. On my skin, this lifted transition is replaced by a sharpness that lingers in the back of my tongue. I see the relation to hair products because I do feel a similar sensation when at the salon. Regardless, still a pleasant floral corporate scent. I suspect it smells better in scent cloud form vs the wearer's experience. I experimented with this scent for a week straight, to when I enter my home it's the first thing I smell. In this case it was not over burdening, expensive smelling, with no other abrupt transitions away from the initial florals. With the discontinuation deal, I think it's a safe blind buy and decent value. I encountered this last year at full price and never gave it a second thought. It's a nice backup emergency scent to have on deck.

I think it's my favorite of the bunch. Smells closest to its candle counterpart. There's nothing harsh or screechingly synthetic. It's a warm, creamy, fruity-floral, which I'd rather wear than burn (some of the scents I'd prefer as environmental ones). Mostly I smell a peachy osmanthus, a hint of cardamom earlier on, with an ambery, musky, creamy base that isn't overly sweet . It's cozy. I feel like I've smelled similar, maybe Tresor-esque, though a deconstructed version. Actually it's more closely a much less complex version of Bond 9 Chinatown (the notes are similar), which is a fabulous, complex perfume that makes me want to skin myself alive after 10 minutes of wearing it because it's just too much for me. This could be the wearable version of Chinatown (Lower East Side abuts Chinatown in NYC🧐 😉). I think it's a good layering scent. I know their whole marketing is all-gendered, but for reference, it feels pretty stereotypically femme to me.

at first blush it seems like a simple fruity floral, and it is — there is nothing very unique about it and is sure to be a safe crowd pleaser. but it’s more interesting than it appears. warm but light peony is at the center, both clean and a little spicy (maybe the ambroxan), leaves me smelling my wrist for hours. finally settles into a creamy and comforting skin scent, reminiscent of Ariana Grande’s Cloud. it’s an easy reach, maybe too simple for some, but I’m a fan.

This is one of those acquired taste fragrances. For a lot of people, like me, it smells like hair spray. It’s a chemically floral musk, but it’s addicting in a way. Just don’t spray so much on yourself like I do, I never learn my lesson with this one. Kinda sucks this one is getting discontinued.

One of nicer and more approachable scents from the brand. Floral, a bit green, soapy, modern, unique. There is something vegetal in the background. Good for work. Professional vibe. Among my top 3 from the brand, next to Flor de la Virgen and Woodphoria.

soapy and candied florals characteristic of the boy smells DNA. more oomph and depth to fleur de la virgen but without the background of other scents. most similar to rose load but there is more going on here and it is more enjoyable

Such an odd (but not horrible) fragrance that I kept lifting my wrist to smell it. When I first sprayed it my immediate thought went to visiting a Miami-area Nordstrom...I'm also getting a lot of hair salon and blush powder scents.

I wanted to love this. I really like their LES candle and fresh out of the bottle it smells like cool hipster hanging out on the Lower East Side energy, but the dry down is so strong and not very good smelling and lasts for ever.

Very lovely floral, lightly fruity & citrusy. Probably not a go to for me because it’s not really my style but a very well balanced beautiful scent!

this is a gorgeous well mixed fruity fragrance i would like to see how it dries down and how the fruity notes hold up in the fragrance

Sweet, fruity, and fresh. Kind of boring but that's not a bad thing. I could see this being a safe choice for an office fragrance.

I didn't care for this. It smells very artificial and cheap, like dollar store fabric softener. It isn't necessarily a bad smell, but it smells much more like a cleaning product than a high end fragrance. It smelled like a very artificial peony scent and nothing else to me.

Fancy hair products? Old school salon? Trying to nail down where I’ve smelled this smell before. It’s not unpleasant but it’s not great either. I’ll let it sit a while and revisit.

I enjoyed the initial spray but then the drydown feels so unpleasant to me, just like cleaning products but it doesn’t make me feel fresh at all. also feels like a hair spray.

Does not actually smell like the Lower East Side. There isn't enough urine and vomit in it. That being said the first 30 minutes are fantastic. Very cozy and warm. Smells like a barista at a hipstery coffee shop.The grapefruit has this weird artificial tang to it but I only get whiffs of it at extremely close range.Then it dries down to overwhelmingly soapy. It's a professional and classy soapy, but it is SOAPY. I bet this smells fantastic as a candle but on my skin it was too much, and I love soapy/powdery scents.

I grew up in a small town hair salon. This reminds me of that. I liked the initial spray, but after about 20 minutes, it smelled like my mom's salon when she was giving a perm. For the life of me I can't figure out why it smells that way, but it does. It's not unpleasant, probably because it reminds me of my childhood, but I don't enjoy it.

I wanted to like this fragrance as I am a fan of several Boy Smells scents, but the dry down just reminds me of public bathrooms. 50% urine, 50% synthetic soap and cleaners. It's a shame bc its currently 50% off right now.

This scent is very interesting because it blends a dirty smell with a clean smell. The result of that is something synthetically bland, and bad. Smells like someone who skipped two showers and has been outside all night.

I reallly wanted to like this, I even did at first. but over the first few days of wearing it i couldn't shake it.. it smells like a grandma on me.

Pleasant. Wtf is a pink pepper? I'm getting all the floral and slighty green notes. This is a nice everyday scent but it's super forgettable for me. Seems like something someone who likes Glossier You would like. No shade! Just a good, youthful scent and unoffensive.

I love this one. Just found out they are discontinuing it so I bought a big bottle and a few candles. It’s such a clean creamy cozy scent. There are a lot of nuances that I think the people who are saying it smells like a cleaning product aren’t picking up on.

This is a strange fragrence it smells like a mess. I kept thinking this reminds me of a perfume I've tried before and after a few hours of wearing it and in the deep dry down I've realised it smells a bit like Ariana Gradne Cloud, not identical but similar.

I wanted to like this but it just smells odd to me . First initial spray I get some sort of aquatic note but then it turns into hospital blankets , the tree is a Murad toner that smells the same way . I am not a fan of this one .
